I love it!!!

This unit has lots of features. It tells street names, exit numbers and warns 2 to 3 times of up coming turns. It will also make sure you're in the correct lane for making turns which is a plus. Very easy to use also. It has a "Dashboard" feature that tells mph, idle time, drive time and averages everything up.
Cons: the MP3 player sounds awesome. The sound quality from the Sandisks superior (in my opinion) than the same songs on my sony walkman; but you CANNOT use the sdhc cards. Only the regular memory cards will work with this unit which leaves you only 2gb per card. I'm forced to carry 6 sandisks and have to change them often. The next flaw is while playing a song, you're unable to go back to the list of songs from a certain album. I'm forced to scroll back to the main screen and start over to search. Very unsafe while driving. Out of 20-25 albums on a sd, 2-3 albums will lock the unit up when trying to play them then I'm forced to reset the unit to unlock it.
After using this unit for a while, it's still a very nice unit and worth every penny. You will get used to the mp3 players flaws and live with it. Alpine is known for thier head units and amps and could have done more to work out the kinks on the mp3 player.
The gps is awsome and I can't find 1 flaw with it. The bluetooth pairs with my Blackberry and downloads the address book; also an awesome feature. If you're lucky enough to find one at a decent price, buy it.

Great product

I find the touch screen large enough to actually use. The voice text-to-
speech functions are a great surprise as to how well it works. Calling out
the exit and street names in addition to proving advanced notice of
freeway exits is great. We used a Garmin and the freeway exit notifications
we seriously last second "exit NOW" kind of thing. Apline has done a good
job on their end with early notifications. I was also surprised by its ability to
announce cell phone callers by name with the Bluetooth option. The
Bluetooth function rocks, its a complete hands free solution for the car with
its built in microphone and speakers. I like how you can start a call from the
search results, the PND address book or even your cell phone's address
book.
A big selling point for me was that Alpine makes the Honda Navi units and
so this was fairly similar in options and function as to what we have in our
other car that has built-in navigation. I like the features and this unit is
highly similar being maybe even easier to use than the Honda in-car navi
from Alpine.
Being able to interface with this while the car is moving and someone else
is driving is great. Some Navi systems lock out the interface and prevent
others in the car from using the tool, but again the Alpine PND-K3 does not
do this.

Alpine PND-K3

Well I'm a truck driver so I'm face to face with this unit for about 12hrs a day 6 days a week and I'll say this. As a Navigation unit, it's pretty easy to use, giving me fairly good directions, also its Bluetooth capability is pretty good, though the people I've talked to through it say that they hear every sound around me from the wind to the engine to the radio Oh ya and my voice. But this units' biggest down fall is the MP3 player after about 1 hr of listening to music it will develop a glitch and the music will PAUSE from 3 to 15 sec. for no apparent reason. I've tried ignoring the pause but, the longer I let it play the more frequent and, lengthy the pauses will be. And after a while my only option to use any other of this units functions will be to do a system reset. I called Alpine for help.... Well lets just say if it weren't for Crutchfield and there GREAT customer service I would be out $$$.

Good and bad

This GPS unit works in general, and definitely has some pros and cons. I did buy this one because my last one (a Garmin Nuvi) broke after a year and a half. The sound does have a bit of a problem with loudness, but when I use the bluetooth part of it it seems to work well. In this age of GPS thefts from cars, I was really disappointed that there wasn't a security lock where you have to enter a code for it to work (I figured if it's going to get stolen, at least make it difficult for the thief to use it!!!). On the one hand it doesn't have the annoying "recalculating" voice when you go off route, but it's also hard to tell that you've gone off route unless you're staring at the unit while driving - it seems to nicely reroute one though. So overall, it works, the money I paid wasn't bad, but I miss my Garmin...except for the annoying "recalculating" voice.

It works nice as a starter gps for my wife, she is so happy to have it. It really works if you make a wrong turn it recalculates the route, and it doesn't nag you with a voice saying to get back to the road it wants you to be on. Really good for a the price we paid for it. Alpine has always made good products and doesn't disappoint with this gps.
