At only 3" deep, the PWE-S8 can fit almost anywhere.

Alpines uses a Class D amplifier rated at 120 watts RMS to drive the PWE-S8's 8" shallow-mount, high-excursion subwoofer, so there's plenty of power for your bass. The amp features controls for phase, gain, and a low-pass crossover, so you''ll be able to match the bass up to the rest of your system.

You'll also find an input for a wired remote control that lets you dial in your sound from the driver's seat. Easy-access RCA line-level inputs and speaker-level inputs with automatic turn-on make it easy to integrate this sub into almost any system. The PWE-S8 has everything you need to bring bass to places where there was never the room for boom.

Features

Auto Turn-on: If using the speaker level input, an automatic circuit turns the amplifier on when it senses an input signal. When using the line level inputs you must also use a remote turn on lead.

Note: No wiring is included with the powered subwoofer. A 10 ga. amp wiring kit is recommended and must be purchased separately.

Low Pass Filter: The amp has a built-in low-pass filter, variable from 50 to 150 Hz.

Speaker Level Input: A speaker level input harness is included, making it easier to add the amplifier to a factory radio or to a receiver with no preamp outputs.

Wired Remote: Using the included wired remote you can easily adjust the bass output level from the driver's seat (or wherever you mount the remote). The range is 0 to -20 dB, relative to the gain setting on the subwoofer chassis.

Controls:

  • Gain: rotary control; 0.2-4.0 volts line level; 0.5-10 volts speaker level
  • Low Pass Filter: rotary control; 50-150 Hz
  • Phase: two position switch; 0° or 180°
  • Power Mode: two position switch; SP IN (speaker level input, auto sensing) or REM (wired remote turn-on)

Connections:

  • Harness: the included 12" harness contains power (+12 volts), ground, remote turn-on, and speaker level inputs (left and right)
  • RCA: left and right line level inputs
  • Remote: 3.5mm mini-jack for use with the included wired remote

Q
Can you connect this to the factory 5" LCD head unit in a Jeep JLU 2019?
chris  Aug 27, 2023
1 answer
A
Thank you for your question, Chris. This Alpine powered sub does have speaker level inputs, so you can connect to a factory system without preamp outputs/RCAs. I recommend reaching out to a Product Advisor at 1-800-324-9695 or by online chat, they'll be able to get your Jeep into their computer and get you set up with what you'll need for that installation.

Will this fit under the powered driver's seat of a 2012 Ram 1500 Reg Cab?
charlie  Dec 07, 2021
1 answer
A
I put the sub I purchased in a Santa Fe. Not a 100% sure about the Ram but if you can reach under the seat and don't feel or see any obstructions you should be fine. Make sure when you install it there are no wire harnesses or brake lines under the carpet or under the cab that a screw may catch. Good luck

Yes, it should fit under any seat you choose. I loved mine while it worked. It lasted just over a year before it stopped working. I never adjusted over half way on sub and had everything adjusted in my Sony head unit. I personally would choose another brand based on my experience.

Q
Does the speaker comes in a 10" or 12"?
curtiss l  Dec 15, 2020
1 answer
A
This is an 8" shallow mount sub, as noted in the item number PWE-S8 (Powered Woofer Enclosure Sub 8). IN order to ensure it will fit under your seat, it is always best to measure before you order. Not all cars have the same useable space under the seats, so it is up to ou to be 100% sure. Also be sure to add the amp installation kit when placing your order. Power, Ground, RCA, and Remote turn on wires along with an inline fuse holder.

Q
Will this unit work well with a basic stock radio?
steve  Aug 29, 2020

It requires RCA inputs, so you would need a speaker out to RCA adapter or converter if your stock radio has not RCA outputs.

What wiring accessories are needed to connect to boss head unit?
scott michael  Jul 26, 2020

I have a power wire ran to my 4 channel amp that powers my speakers. Would I have to run a second power wire from the battery to power this sub/amp?
casey  Jun 25, 2020
2 answers
A
If you think the power wire can handle it, you may be able to get away with adding a power block first and then a shorter wire to each amp.
juan p  Jul 04, 2020
A
Yes that's what I had to do for the 1997 Jaguar XK8. The power must come directly from the battery but the on off power is wired to the main amp that separately powers the 4 channels.

I am sure it will! It thumps good enough to where it makes the mirrors vibrate...granted, I turn my volume up high and I have it under my seat where it fits perfectly. I recommend you install it inside the vehicle vs in the trunk though. My 2 cents...

Does this have a crossover that will limit the frequency sent to the speakers? i.e. all frequency under say 150hz is handled by the sub then the upper frequencies sent to the speakers?

Hello. The controls on this unit are for the sub only. A high pass crossover for your car's speakers will be at your head unit if so equipped with such features. Hope this helps.

I have not hooked it up yet. Still putting the interior together then I will wire radio , speakers, subs and amps. I dont plan on hooking subs up to amp. I plan on wiring them directly to the radio.

A
I can't answer for sure. I powered my speakers off of a separate AMP
gary  Mar 22, 2019
A
I believe so. Wiring diagram shows wiring to all four speakers though. Also without leads for sub use only you'll have to adjust the gain manually.
robert  Mar 22, 2019
A
Didn't consider trying that. All of the speakers are separate from the subwoofer.
paul a  Mar 22, 2019
A
I believe the answer is "no." I did not do the installation personally, but I studied the wiring harness & electrical connections. I think any direct connection to another set of speakers would be unconventional and not work.
alan  Mar 22, 2019
Q
Can you use two of these?
tim  Jan 01, 2019
3 answers
A
I suppose you could, but it all depends on the wiring. Each one of these powered subs connects via a pair of RCA cables to a preamp output (and a multiple wire pigtail). And these low-profile subs are a compromise from the start. If I had a system in my car that was so serious that I wanted two subwoofers, I would not be looking at these little powered units. Hope that helps.
alan  Jan 09, 2019
A
I think you can!
carmen  Jan 08, 2019
A
If you are using RCA output, yes you could, you would have to run separate power to both. Would not recommend two if you are using speaker level outputs. You will need a splitter off deck RCA inputs, you will need 4 total.

A
You need to measure to be sure. It is very compact and puts out excellent bass for the small size. Fits nicely under driver seat of 2014 Nissan Armada.
eric  Nov 15, 2018
A
You'll never know until you measure. Height of unit is ~3". LxW dimensions are too large to fit between the anchor points of the seats in my Subaru Outback. BTW, I've been disappointed in the performance. I know it's small and just provides fill, but I thought it would have more kick. My previous powered sub did have that kick, but the sound was fuzzy, not tight.
alan  Nov 15, 2018
A
you have to measure the space under the seat and compare it to the specifications of the unit. - might work better under one of the rear passenger seats
johnny  Nov 15, 2018
A
I haven't driven a Sienna in over five years. I would caution putting the sub under the driver seat. Especially if you have powered seat. Look for a better location and the sub will serve you well.

I purchased this sub to go under the seat of a 1973 Jeep CJ5. We had to use some small spacers, but, it fit beautifully and sounds awesome. I have since sold the Jeep, but I would buy this product again should the need arise. I can't help you with the Sienna. I don't know anything about that particular car.

There is definitely a way to connect this to the stock radio in your pickup and you can call an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to get a personal recommendation on the gear that is needed to make it connect to the stock radio. There may be an issue fitting it under the seat. Given the measurements we got, I don't think it will. You might call the advisor while at the truck to double check our measurements and see if it can fit My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101

We do not have the available space dimensions under the seat of your vehicle. We can provide the dimensions of the Alpine enclosure which you can use to cross-reference against the available space you find there: 13-1/2"W x 9"H x 3"D At just 3" thick, you will not need a lot of clearance.

Q
Will this sub fit under the seat of a 2011 Miata?
michelle  Oct 08, 2017
3 answers
A
Based on all of the information I've been able to find on various Miata enthusiast sites, the 3rd gen Miatas don't have enough vertical clearance under the seats for an under-seat subwoofer. Most people mount them on the vertical wall behind the seats instead, at least in earlier Miatas (that's where I have the sub in my 1991).
andrew  Dec 07, 2017
A
I'm afraid we don't have the area under the seats listed in the research for your 2011 Mazda Miata. However, when flat the Alpine PWE-S8 measures 13-1/2"(depth) x 9"(width) x 3"(height)--if you find there's sufficient room under your seats for a box with those dimensions, the Alpine would be a great option. For more details or to discuss further, please feel free to contact an Advisor directly by phone (888.955.6000) or online chat. Thanks!
david  Oct 11, 2017 (Staff)
A
I don't know much about the Miatas, but the measurements of the subwoofer are the w 9.5 inches L 13.5 inches and the height 2.75 inches. If this measurements are under the seat it will be a fit. Performance wise I do recommend it.

Does anyone have this in a Subaru hatch back? Anyone listen to death metal ? How's the double bass drum kicks? Also can it handle hip hop bass? I know it's not gonna rock the house. Just wanted to fill in the lows.

Installed mine in my gmc 2500 hd behind rear seat. I had to turn my sub settings on head unit to max for great results. I listen to all types of music. Also when I say great results, it's just a "comfortable" bass level. To really bring out low ends I would need two or something bigger.

You need to connect it directly to the head unit. It has a built in amp and connecting to an existing amp may damage the unit.

Sorry, the speakers in my 99 Suburban would not support an amp. However the sound is awesome now. Really nice bass sub...

I have connected this to a factory head unit using speaker level inputs: it has rca connections for line level, I plan on putting a 50 watt alpine amp on the system in order to keep factory head unit. This amp should pair nicely with the power of this alpine sub- all in a 2016 Prius.

Sony what? and Kenwood what?

It will connect directly to your head unit, provided you have the RED/WHITE output on your head unit. Since it is an amp, it won't connect to another amp.

Best way to wire up and use two of these in a vehicle?

A
I wired each one using a 4-gauge dual amplifier wiring kit and put the fuse block on my firewall. I ran two #10's to the fuse block and then ran a #4 to my battery.

Not sure about two as I only installed one. I ran power down one side and speaker down the other side of vehicle. Speaker is located behind rear seat of crew cab. Good luck!

Q
I have seen this amp in a jeep magazine. It comes with a wire harness that is plug and play with a stock jeep radio. You unplug the current wire harness and plug in the amp harness then the current one plugs into the back of that. Do you have this harness?

Thanks for your question. Unfortunately we do not have the harness separately. I have added the link below for the full package which includes everything you need and is plug n play as you describe. If you have any questions feel free to reach out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_500PWES8WR/Alpine-PWE-S8-WRA.html?tp=113&skipvs=Y

Q
Does this fit under rav4 2015-17 passenger seat?

I put mine under a 2005 Honda Accord Coupes seat. The only issue I had was in the length of the unit. I had a heating duct the pushed the unit back so that it extended past the bottom of the seat (just barely). I think the RAV's seat is a bit larger and sits up higher than the Accord's seat, so it should be fine. I would check under the passenger seat to see if there are any obstructions. I also had to place the unit inboard so that the seat adjuster cleared. I had plenty of clearance on the sides, so this was no problem.

I don't know. I don't have a RAV4. Try measuring the space under the seat and checking the dimensions.

I would say most likely yes. I bought one and fit it behind my 2 seater 1985 Nissan 300zx behind the passenger seat and the seat still goes back all the way and reclines all the way back. Great little powered subwoofer. Not huge thump but very good bass sound. You won't be disappointed. Hope this helps you. Randy

Q
Would this product fit under the back seat or front seat of a 2016 GMC Canyon? The Canyon has the Bose 6 speaker system. But, I want to upgrade the speakers to all Alpine with a subwoofer, if possible. Thank you for your advice.

I Have never looked under the seat of a canyon, it is very small and I put mine dead center under the rear seat in my 05 gmc 4 door half ton truck with all alpine system, I love it. Sounds incredible,

Can this be used to replace the pioneer subwoofer under the passenger seat of a 1999 Lexus RX300?

This is for all of the available compact subs, I would recommend to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to pull up your vehicle, compare the different subs available and give you the details on if they will fit and what you will need for an installation in your vehicle.

Yes sir you can. I have mine mounted vertically behind the passengers seat in my 1985 300zx. It is a great little unit. You won't go hopping down the road from the bass but plenty of quality thump for its size.
randolph s  Dec 14, 2015
A
I did not mount mine vertically but mechanically, there doesn't seem to be any reason that one couldn't do so. If it was my install, I'd just be sure to allow for adequate ventilation.
