You can't hear your favorite songs live in concert everyday, but Alpine's Type-R Series speakers can recreate the concert feel as they bring out your music's natural vibrance and detail.

The efficient SPR-17C 6-3/4" speakers broadcast full low-frequency response with hybrid layered-pulp woofers, so you'll feel as if the bass guitarist is right beside you. Rubber surrounds resist deterioration and keep the woofers moving smoothly and consistently for accurate sound.

Premium silk ring-dome tweeters radiate bright vocals and sparkling instrumentals, without the annoying ear fatigue that inferior tweeters can cause. You can swivel the tweeters to provide the best stereo imaging for your car.

Note: Alpine describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Great Speakers

Written By KYVWGirl, Louisville, KY on Thursday, May 19, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced all of the stock speakers in my 2001 VW GTI. These speakers went in the front doors (Alpine SPS-600's in the rear panels). What a difference it makes. I never knew that such good sound could come out of replacing car speakers, or I would have had them replaced a long time ago. These speakers sound amazing. The highs & mids are unreal & the bass can be turned up without distorting the sound. I will be purchasing another set of these speakers for my 2005 VW Jetta & would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone looking for an improved, quality sound.

Basic speakers only.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these to replace the factory speakers of my Silverado that had 9yr old paper speakers. My install required direct install of speaker to door frame which fit well and looked good. But then I got a chance to turn on the stereo. My factory radio was able to over-drive these without problem. They have great high's and mid's but I had to turn the treble to 1 to get any sort of bass from them. I have a wide variety of music in my MP3 player but could not get anything but talk radio to sound decent and even then the electric S's were way to prominent. Was going to put in my torn factories but am going to swap these out for some polk or infinity speakers instead.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced all 4 (front and rear) original speakers (2001 Chevy Tahoe). Beautiful sound. Factory installed subwoofer provides great bottom to compliment. Will upgrade the subwoofer next. Most definitely need a subwoofer; I don't believe that these speakers alone would provide the depth level that I like. Not looking for super duper boomer just warm deep lows. Overall happy with the performance of the speakers.

I finally replaced my speakers on my 97 Dakota and want a difference!!! Good bass response and the mids-highs are outstanding. I should have changed them out a long time ago.

I replaced the current speakers on my Harley with these. The difference is night and day. Great bottom and top end with bass and treble. Easy installation.

Stock VS Speakers of Zeus

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had replaced my stock speakers in my '97 Honda Accord with these tremendously outstanding works of art. The high on these speakers is unjustly down-rated. They sound superb! For such a price AND SIZE, they can push out a very hefty bass, and an even more amazing mid! Like I stated previously however, the high-end efficiency is by fay, the most amazing I have heard. (By far, that is) To be able to blend so perfectly with the rear (Polk) and sub (JVC Arsenal) of my car and STILL make it possible for me to hear the clarity and smoothness of ANY high-pitched vocal and/or high-end instruments, is divine. The sound, is divine.

Great Upgrade

Installed these in a 02 Trailblazer. Big improvment over the stock speackers. Rears were a direct repacment fit.. Front I had to get a adapter. Sound is impressive for speakers in this price range.

wrong size for application

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Coupled with the adapter plates for my 95 4runner (plates are atrocious) these were low and mushy sounding, probably because the ohm rating is higher than the original 4ohm speakers I tried to replace them with. Removed them and bought stock 4inch replacements locally which work great in the original boxes. Will try to use these in my wifes vehical.

better sounding than my old Infinity Kappas

i had Kappas, blew one.. bought these for less $ and love them.. very good sound, balanced.. clear highs and a tad less hissy than the Kappas which I thought were fanttastic.. great mids.. decent lows for the small size.. lows as good as Kappas. (i dont have sub either.. they work great)

You wont be sorry.. great buy.

You won't be disappointed!

These speakers are fantastic! There is no comparison to the factory high output speakers. I would definitely recommend them for any GM truck.

Upgraded my Dodge Durango from some Sony Xplod's I had installed 5 years ago and I must say that these Alpines offer more well rounded highs and more bass.
Great construction on the speakers and easy to install. I really appreciate that Crutchfield provides so much information to help with the install..thanks Crutchfield!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the weak JBL speakers in the front doors with these using the stock head unit and amp. Excellent sound. Super deep bass with clear mids and highs. Stock speakers were super washed out with muddy lows, no mids and screeching highs.

Installation was a snap and these screwed right in.

These speakers a great but you have to amp them or they won't sound any better than your stock speakers. The high's are very sharp and crisp and the lows are even better if you amp them.

Get them their full 100w RMS and you wont be disappointed.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The driver's side door speaker in my 05 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71 with the 6 Speaker Bose system went bad crakling, humming, and making every trip with the radio on nearly unbearable. Ordered these speakers as replacements, and WOW what a difference. My Bose speakers never sounded this good. I hear details and clarity in the music my original speakers could not produce, or produce nearly as well. Because these speakers were such an improvement I had to ordered a matching set for the rear doors. The instillation took longer than I expected, but that's only because this was my first time replacing speakers. The second door went much faster than the first. Basically, I couldn't be happier with these speakers.

awesome addition

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these for a friend in his '93 Civic and they sound great. They are connected to a new Sony head unit and we couldn't be happier with the results. We can now turn the music up and really enjoy a great sounding stereo in the car.

They were even cheaper than our local stores. Free S/H and no tax for my state. Can't beat it. And Crutchfield's US based customer support is top notch and was able to help me with an issue. Crutchfield is definitely the place to go for car stereo equipment & will be my pick for all future car stuff.

They're Great...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great compared to the factory speakers in my Avalanche. I replaced the rear door speakers and after hearing the difference I got another set for the front doors. They fit and sound great. They're fine without an amp but when you try to crank it up the factory stereo just doesn't have the power. So an amp is next and the Crutchfield team has recommended the Alpine MRP-F600.

They DO fit, and they DO Pound!

Written By RemoWilliams, Orlando, FL on Sunday, January 04, 2009

I couldn't be happier with these speakers. Paired with the SPR-69's in the front door of my Jeep Cherokee Laredo, (these are in the rear) and amped up by an Alpine MRP-F300 V-Power, and using the Kenwood MP388 Head Unit. I'm not even dialed all the way in yet and I have to say, I never imagined that I could achieve this kind of sound in my Jeep without a subwoofer box hogging all of my cargo space. These fit right in the door and no one knows that you are about to pound their ears in until you crank it up. Perfect for drowning out Reggeton, etc.

You really need to amp these up to get their full potential. Even if your HU says it puts out 25 watts RMS, that's not even close to what these will handle. Currently I'm only running 50W RMS to these and they appear ready and willing to accept even more. Highly recommend these fine Alpine speakers. Will DEFINATELY buy again if the opportunity arises.

Great Speakers!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have (4) of these speakers installed in my '04 Jeep Liberty. They are being pushed by a Rockford Fosgate Punch P450.4, and an Alpine CDA-9884 head unit. My concern was getting optimal performance out of a 6 3/4" speaker without having to use a sub (conserving cargo space). These speakers are amazing. Highs are sharp, mids are very tight, and bass response is unbelievable for a 6 3/4" speaker. If you get these speakers, make sure you have enough power to push them. Great product. I was always an Infinity fan (always bought Kappa and Reference) but consider me now a converted Alpine lover. These speakers pound. And GREAT customer service from Crutchfield. These were recommended by the tech advisor after letting them know what I was looking for. I only gave them a 4 rating because I don't give anything a 5. But these in my mind are definitely a 4.8. Can't go wrong with these speakers.

They FIT!

Written By Chris, Texas on Monday, September 29, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Although the fit guide said they didn't fit, I squeezed these speakers into
the front doors of my 2006 Honda Accord sdn. THEY SOUND AWESOME. I
have never heard so much bass from a 6" speaker. The magnets on these
things are massive. I am running them off the factory h/u now, but will
soon amp them up. I have them paried with the SPR-69C in the rear deck.
With just these four speakers and the factory h/u, I have been asked if I
have 12" in the trunk...

Bought these things a while ago, still holding up great. Have a pair in my front door and I haven't even amped them yet im just running them off the HU and they still sound good. They sound great and you can crank em pretty hard before they start to distort.

I first replaced my factory speakers with Sony Xplod 4 ways. When one of the ones in the door blew, I got these. They sound amazing, way better than the Sonys. They were also alot bigger in magnet size. I can now turn my system up much louder without the slightest hint of distortion. They make a great team when combine with my Alpine head unit and kicker 12's.

Would recommend these to anyone wanting better than average sound for their vehicle.

Written By Laurence, North Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday, September 25, 2007

Bought these to go in a 2000 Honda Accord EX-V6 Coupe. Though the fit my car guide says they don't fit, THEY DO!!! Alpine has an adaptor for GM & Honda vehicles that comes with the speakers. You will have to drill 2 small holes, and a little bit of retro-fitting/cutting off of some of the plastic on the adapter, but it definitely fits perfect and it doesn't interfere with the glass. This install isn't for a beginner. These Alpine Type-R 6 1/2's definitely sound great with my Alpine head unit and the Alpine Type-R 6x9's in the rear deck..........Definitely Recommend

I highly recommend these speakers for any stereo system. A clear and quality sound. I would recommend buyin an amplifier for these also. The Alpine PDX4.100 pairs up great with them.

Product Research

Woofers: The Alpine Type-R series coaxial speakers feature woofer cones made of hybrid layered-pulp with mica coating for great bass response. For durability and superior linearity, the woofers have rubber surrounds.

Swivel Tweeters: The speakers are equipped with 1" (25mm) silk ring-dome tweeters for greater detail and bright, crisp highs. These tweeters can swivel to improve off-axis response in less-than-ideal installations. You can aim the tweeter by hand for best high frequency response at your listening position.

Motor Structure: The High-performance Linear Drive Motor structure features a large magnet that is almost as big as the voice coil diameter. Its dual radial magnet and twin gap, combined with a square, edge-wound voice coil, gives the diaphragm linear movement over a much greater range. This design allows the speaker to be faithful to the input signal even during high excursion, for accurate musical reproduction and deep bass.

Speaker Rings: Two rings are included with the speakers that are used to properly align the grilles, when mounted to the top of a door panel or rear deck. If the speakers are being mounted behind the door panel (using the existing OEM grille), the rings are not needed. Note: Using the rings decreases the top mounting depth by approximately 1/8".

OEM Adapters: The SPR-17C comes with two pairs of OEM adapter rings. One pair is for standard 6-1/2" applications and select GM/Chrysler applications, while the other pair works with certain Honda OEM applications.
