The Type-R SPR-60C component system features 6-3/4" multi-layer hybrid fiber woofers that deliver really strong bass response. Alpine's adapted the specially ridged surround, originally developed for their subs, to these speakers, so you get consistent, extended cone movement that pushes a lot of air. The silk tweeters produce smooth highs that bring out your music's detail and depth with no shrillness. Alpine mounts an EQ ring in front of the tweeters to help disperse the highs for a larger listening "sweet spot" in your ride. The tweeters mount separately so you can focus the sound better for your seating position.
Alpine uses powerful neodymium magnets which are much smaller than traditional magnets, so the SPR-60C's high-density polymer frames will fit into more places than most 6-3/4" woofers. External 2-way crossover networks control the high and low frequencies for seamless, clear sound — and they're 60% smaller than the old Type-R crossovers so they're easier to install. Type-R speakers have earned their reputation in the past as the masters of "crank it to the max," but Alpine has really kicked the performance factor of the latest models up a notch or two.
Note: Alpine describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.
Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.
A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.
Bought two of these components and I am amazed on how good they sound, their replacing some infinity reference. They match perfectly my pdx-f4.
Pros: Nice highs and midrange.
I have the 50's up front and the 60's in the rear of my 2002 Ford Explorer. My car didn't some with tweeters so I had to put the holes in my door panels to mount them, but it was a breeze and looks like a factory installation.I have the Pioneer DEH 80PRS and Alpines MRP-F300 running all 4 tweeters, and a Alpine PDX-4 taking care of the woofers, and a rockford Fosgate P300-10 suboofer taking care of my lows.My Alpines are nothing short of concert hall sound quality.Nothing I've heard can compare to the rich sound quality they produce, and as they've broken in they have only gotten better.Sometimes when there is a shift from guitar to drums it will almost lift me off my seat! If you install these in your car,I suggest you pay close attention to your driving as the sound quality can carry you away.I could not be more pleased with Alpines products, and Crutchfields customer assistance is phenominal.
Pros: Sound Quality, pure and simple....ease of installation and all quality built,it should last a lifetime
Cons: theres no more room to install more of these in my car
These speakers are phonimal. They are much cleaner and very clear. I have owned Rockford fosgate power, kenwood excelon speakers and no way will I ever go back to anything except Alpine........
Pros: Clean and clear no problems with tweeters sounding harsh what so ever. ThrseThese are the Best components That I HAVE EVER OWNED... And yes they do fit in my 1999 Ford Crown Victoria both doors with no problems.
Cons: NOT ONE THING
they're good speaker you're a lot better than the stock speaker and they were very easy to install
Pros: as of now I had no problems with them
Cons: not at this point
These speakers sound really aweskme. And the tweates work great. But I can't turn the volume all the way up without it sounding like they're blown. I will be upgrading
Pros: Sound great at pretty loud volume
Cons: Doesn't like to get loud enough with clear quality
I never would have believe that changing to Alpines could enhance the way I listen to things. I love them and will keep using them until my neighbors hate me.
Pros: Power and bass. Will hold up to any grene of music!
I decided to upgrade the sound system in my JK. I purchased this kit to replace my front components. The tweeters were a significant upgrade from the stocks, and the quality of the woofers were also a great step. More bass, but not as much kick as I expected.
Pros: High quality tweeters, convent crossover hookup top quality product
Cons: Not a ton of bass, but some.
I've always used Alpine equipment in all of my vehicles, and have never been disappointed. These speakers produce incredible sound, and can handle a lot of power. Even with the volume turned way up, they sound is clear of distortion. Excellent speakers!!
I was a little reluctant to purchase speakers with remote tweeters, because I have never done install like this. However, I wanted premium fidelity and power-handling. Instructions were clear and easy -between instructions provided by Crutchfield and Alpine, and fidelity and power-handling did not disappoint! I am VERY satisfied with my purchase!
Pros: Great fidelity and power handling. Easy install.
Only Alpine can compete with JL being the heavy weight car audio companies for what like two decades straight now! Everything by JL is always a minimum of triple what Alpine's products retail for.. 300% is a big number and I have had a full aftermarket system installed in my first vehicle (back when Alpine or Pioneer decks were must haves and the only ones with built in amps) and I just had to purchase my sixth vehicle after I was hit by a drunk driver and had another car totaled and I've made sure every vehicle I've owned has had a full system even though I've had to replace everything 2-4 times and every piece of equipment I've ever purchased and owned has been an Alpine product besides two Diamond subwoofers and I also tried Infinity Reference and Kappa speakers which as good as those both are still don't hold a candle to the type R's. I can't speak for actual subwoofers but I'll tell you right now all I could salvage from my totaled Pathfinder was my Diamond sub in it's box with my 1000W alpine mono amp mounted to the back of the box and I'm in the process of ordering 4 more SPR 60C component speakers, the single din CDE-HD148BT deck with another KTP-445 (one of Alpine's great innovations) and another RUX-Knob. I fell in love with my Alpine system and I'm sad that I'm having to replace what I had besides getting a way cooler deck but music just isn't the same withoit my system and in my car I literally visualize and FEEL the musIc so thx to Alpine for pure beauty
Pros: My system brings me back home to me and the music flows through me like a grounding and uplifting energy. I never get sick of it and I might as well be dead if I get too old to enjoy it..
Cons: The decks don't shoot laserbeams, I can't get the speakers to reverse gravity, the power pack doesn't turbocharged my engine, and the amps can't facilitate time travel.. What a joke cuz like can't JL do all that?
Unbelievably amazing that all that bass comes from such a small unit!
Pros: Perfect fit, unique styling, and unbelievable bass from such a compact little speaker.Good job Alpine!
Cons: Which they would have come with adapters on them already so I wouldn't have to have soldered them. But other than that they're perfect.
These speakers sound amazing! I am currently just running them off an alpine head unit and there is surprisingly no distortion at loud volumes! Clean highs from the silk domed tweeters, surprisingly deep mid bass from the poly fiber woofers.
The small crossover size is very convenient. I attenuated the tweeters minus 1db with them and the highs are crisp and bright without any harshness.
Can't wait to amp em up!
Pros: Great sound, tiny crossover, stylish looks, affordable.
Cons: Well, they aren't made by JL...
Speakers are subjective but to me the Alpine type R have a smooth sound, good clarity, and a good amount of detail. Bass isn't deep but I like the mids. Vocals are brought out more with these than a lot of others I tried. The bass that the type Rs do play has that clean "pop" and isn't distorted. I listened to these amplified. An aftermarket head unit may be enough power but I'm not sure.
Pros: Vocals easy to hear and "rich" Good Mids Smooth sound but clear and detailed
Cons: For the price, I would try others before buying these. Many options in that price range. Bass- benefit from a sub even if you aren't wanting a lot of bass. This alone wouldn't deter me. Efficiency- may not be a good choice if playing w/o amp or w/ stock head unit.
Love these speakers. A good investment for my Camry. Not just loud but clear.good midrange. Adjustable crossover really helps maximize sound quality.
Pros: Great sound. Adjustable crossover smoother out tweeter response.great for stealth installation.
I had never installed component speakers before but wanted to since my car had 4 speakers in the front and didn't want the lousy "tweeters" to cloud up an otherwise nice sound system. These speakers were real easy to install as long as you have a bit of an understanding with how your car's wired. The high frequency sounds sound really good with these speakers and since I'll be adding a sub, that was what was more iportant to me.
Pros: The sound's very crisp and clear and the crossover's very easy to conceal in the installation.
Cons: Instructions could be more clear. Also some guidelines for how to adjust the crossover would be nice.
The 6.5" woofers are excellent speakers. Not as impressed with the dash speakers, however as the tweeter sounds rather brittle (at least in my installation).
Pros: Price. 6.5" component.
Cons: Dash speakers and tweeters were disappointing.
These are well made and install was fairly easy for my first try at components. The adjustable tweeter helps with sound quality. Can't wait to hook them up to amp to see what they can do.
Crisp sound with matched alpine amp
Pros: Rich, undistorted sound with higher decibels.
Wanted to upgrade the speakers on my 07 Wrangler. Stock system. No amp. Didn't want to go overboard with a system. Troy was the tech who helped me with my purchase. Very impressed with the sound quality. Just saying way better is an understatement.
Pros: Great value for the dollar, excellent sound.
Cons: Tweeters are not an exact fit. But was told they wouldn't be, so no surprise. Would have been nice to just swap out.
These speakers are a great upgrade from factory speakers. Just got mine put in and they sound great. The sound quality is good and there is almost no distortion from the bass. If your looking for a good midrange pair of speakers these should be it.
Pros: Slim to none bass distortion. Easy to install. Great sound quality.
Cons: Haven't experienced anything bad with them yet.
These share cabin space with a pair of Kicker KS components in the rear. These are in the front. I also have a stealthbox 13" subwoofer. All gear is hooked up to an Alpine PDXV9.
The crossovers are indeed small - much smaller than others but seem to do the job OK. The tweeter response is set by moving a jumper to pins to match your taste. Access to the jumper is a clunky implementation and having to move a jumper is a bit ... well... odd. It seems Alpine was going for the minimalist approach at the expense of the units being user friendly. Perhaps the biggest issue is the wire connections. Rather than bare wire that can be soldered, Alpine has provided connectors from the tweeter to the speaker. Again, odd. The connectors in my case were a source of failure causing me to open the door card again to permanently join them by removing the connectors from the circuit.
Regarding response, as long as you are not expecting audiophile performance, these are a very good speaker combination. They have good power handling. The bigger woofers provides decent bass and mid-range response. The silk tweeters are overly bright and needed to be toned down by setting the jumpers in the crossover to the lowest setting (to my taste.) That said, there is a warmness to silk that I prefer to all other materials - so that was a great feature at a reasonable price.
As aftermarket speakers go, they are certainly an upgrade from stock.
Pros: Decent sound, good power handling
Cons: Connectors are terrible, clunky crossover implementation; jumpers used to set tweeter response.
Just replaced my stock speakers on my Nissan Altima 1999 cuz all four speakers were blown. Installed these babies in the front. I had to drill a hole in the door for the tweeters. Installed SPR-60 coaxials in the back. Let me say that it sounds amazing. Stock speakers sounded like garbage and these blew me away. I used Fatmatt to line the doors and am powering the babies with a PDX-F4.
Alpine will never disappoint you. I got the 147BT, SPR-60c, and SPR-60 and all are great!!
Pros: Great sound, crisp and clear
the speakers sound awesome. They are so much better than the factory speakers.
I have always been a jl and alpine fan. I have had c3's then c5's. They were nice. But not wow. I have an alpine pdx-f4 100x4 to power two of these components and two channels to a kenwood 12. I places raamat (way better and cheaper then dynomatt) and these speakers came alive. Any genre, they are game. The smaller crossovers, swivel design tweeters, and flexible surrounds make these stand out too. And for the price?! Great buy!
Pros: Clean, sound great, hefty design
I've put together quite a few systems in the last few years. I've tried other brands and been satisfied. This time I decided to try the Alpine components. When I first installed them they sounded pretty good during the testing phase. Once I dialed in the amps and set the EQ on the deck these speakers really came to life. I was immediately impressed. Then I cranked up the volume and I was blown away, literally and figuratively. I didn't use any of the crossovers on the amp, just let these speakers go. Great bass! Crisp highs! I couldn't believe them. If you are considering these speakers you will not be disappointed. The subwoofer I got to go with these really isn't even necessary. My setup is a Sony XAV-601BT, Alpine SPR-60C (front), Alpine SBR-69 (rear), Rockford Fosgate Prime R400-4D (amp). Again, I couldn't be happier with these speakers and would recommend them to anyone.
Pros: Awesome sound, great power handling
Had these installed in my 2010 Civic sedan powered by 150 watts RMS. I've never heard such incredible sound. Sparkling (but not screechy) highs and tons of mids. The tweeters were installed in the factory location and they sound great.
I've never had such wonderful sound in my car. You can crank it loud without distortion or keep it low and hear every detail.
I bought a set of these to put in my TJ's soundbar, got them in the discount section of the Charlottesville store for 139.99! What a steal, these sound better than the infinity kappas I had previously, as well as the Boston acoustics the PO had put in by far. I'm running them off a pdxf4 and its very loud and very clear can't even hear the hum of my 35's when I crank it or the wind with the top off, I love it. Ain't a better place to get your stuff than from crutchfield now I Just gotta add an Sbr-s83v and wait for a set of 5.25 type r components hit the discount rack for the dash.
Pros: Clarity, looks, quality, price
I'll start out with saying that I've listenend to and owned several component sets over the past 15 years in various vehicles and I consider myself a bit of an audiophile guru. I was looking for a really good component set for my 2011 Honda Accord coupe, and if you own one of these veicles, you know how difficult it is finding something that will fit in the factory locations without any cutting. I've always been a HUGE Alpine fan, and was hesitant at first for the price of this pair of compnents. After reading some reviews on here, and listening for myself, I was simply blown away! So much detail and halfway descent bass (if you have a large door opening) for the price! Add an amplifier behind these, and they will sing, and I mean LOUD. I'm using an Alpine PDX-V9 5 channel with a solid 100W going to each. I have a 10 year old pair of Alpine F#1 Status audiophile grade components in my truck that were over $1200/pair, and these Type-R's will give them a run for the money at a quarter of the cost. The tweeters are a bit on the "bright" side, so if you like a lot of upper frequency band treble, these are definitely for you. I reccommend attenuating the tweeters on the crossover network to at least a -2db instead of 0 (flat) setting. The build quality is good overall, and they use powerful neodymium magnets which allow for greater power handling and are easier when it comes to depth in mounting. Overall, great for the money, and a 9 out of 10 for everything else.
Pros: Great sound, easy to install, no bulky crossover network, lots of detail
Cons: Tweeters are a bit "bright" but can easily be adjusted
I installed these in my 2010 Ford F150 XLT supercrew with SYNC at the same time as a Sony XNV stereo. I must say they are a million times clearer than the stock speakers. I compared by fading front and then back as I did not replace the rear speakers. HUGE difference in clarity. The tweeters were way too bright for my taste, but I easily reduced the harshness by adjusting the the crossover to -4db. What I don't like is the lack of low end. I figured I'd lose some bc these I think are meant for those with a sub in their vehicle, but these are really lacking. The factory speakers hit lower notes than these do, albeit muddy low notes. I think this might be somewhat rectified with the addition of an amp to increase their power and punch. I am not using any kind of amplifier to them. Just the 17w RMS from the head unit.
Pros: Clarity. Adjustable tweeter volume.
Cons: Lack of bass notes
Excellent sound quality
Pros: Great up-grade from Mach factory speakers in my Mustang Convertible
I purchased this component system to replace the previous Kicker DS65.2 components i had installed in my 2003 Toyota Tundra Access Cab SR5 and I must say that these speakers are far superior to any other brand or type of speaker that I have installed, or for that matter, even heard. The sound these speakers emit is flawless in every area: crisp but not piercing treble, powerful middle, and just the right amount of bass. However I do recommend that you install bass blockers on them to insure that you do not damage the speakers when increasing the dB. Thats what I have done in my vehicle and: let the speakers do the talking and the subs do the bumpin. Way to go Alpine.
Great speakers. Very clear. Love them
The wife's factory Infinity component speakers blew in her car and we bought these Alpines to replace them. The installation was easy enough and although the tweeters didn't fit in the factory locations they look great where I installed front and rear. I was a little disappointed at first, but after only a few minutes these speakers really started to shine. The sound is crisp and very clear. The sound just surrounds us in the car now and that makes the wife happy....happy wife happy life thanks crutchfield
Pros: clear, ease of installation, and highs, mids, and lows are very nicely separated
Cons: If you want the hard thump get the sub, if you listen to a wide variety of music these work great
First off, as of now, these speakers are fairly new. There aren't that many reviews here or anywhere else online. Take my word, these speakers are worth the money.
Originally I had ordered 2x sets of component speakers, Polk Audio MM6501 6"3/4, and they sounded good for the price. After adding a Alpine MRP-F300 (amp) and a Kenwood Touch HU, everything seemed finished. Well after three weeks of use, the front right woofer cracked/blew. I called Crutchfield and after 3 weeks of backorders and out of stock replies, I finally told them I wanted a new set of speakers. They sent me these speakers (free of charge) and after 3 hours of installing, I can comfortably say that these sound deeper in bass. The treble really stands out in this set (beats the polk audios), and that's what you want from speakers. Subwoofers are for bass.
If your looking for speakers for under $300 then take a risk and buy these. You can thank yourself afterwards.
So I just received these speakers yesterday and had them installed yesterday evening and I could not be more pleased. If this is what they sound like now, I can only imagine how much better they'll sound after they've broken in. I have a 2010 Ford Escape and these speakers sound like they should have been there from the beginning. They are rated as being able to handle up to 110 watts rms and I can only imagine how that would sound if my amplifier were capable of putting out that much power per channel. As it stands, I'm sending it 75 rms from a Pioneer GM-D9500F and they sound great. The low-pass crossover is set to approximately 80hz. The best part is that aside from the holes that had to be cut in the doors to accommodate the tweeters, it looks like nothing has been done to my car at all.
I purchased these because aside from being able to fit in 6x8" speaker locations, they were one of the few speakers in the price range with silk dome tweeters. And true to information from Crutchfield, they really do sound warmer and less shrill than other similar speakers I've heard like Infinity, Kicker, and Boston Acoustics.
And just so you know, I tend to listen to Hip-Hop, R&B, Jazz (not contemporary) and House/Electronica music primarily, but I love artists like N.E.R.D., Res, and the Roots who actually play instruments.

Woofers: The Alpine Type-R series component speakers feature multi-layered hybrid fiber woofer cones; for durability and superior linearity, they use rubber surrounds.
HAMR Surround: Type-R speakers use Alpine's multi roll HAMR surround (patent pending), a technology developed for Alpine subwoofers that maintains control and stability at higher volume levels. HAMR surround combines increased cone area and long linear cone excursion for deep, powerful bass response.
Motor Structure: The woofer's High-performance Linear Drive Motor structure features a square-wire voice coil with a large 30mm diameter, driven by a small but powerful neodymium magnet. This design provides linear motion over a wide cone excursion.
Neodymium Magnet: The neodymium magnet on the Type-R series woofers allows smaller speaker dimensions, making them easier to install in a wide variety of vehicles. They are also lighter than designs using standard magnet technology.
HD Polymer Frame: The new Type-R woofers use a revolutionary HD Polymer frame, making the speaker stronger, lighter, and easier to install.
Tweeters: The SPR-60C includes 1" (25mm) silk dome tweeters. Alpine's EQ Ring improves the tweeter's dispersion characteristics, providing excellent off-axis response. When using the flush-mount housing you can also tilt the tweeters up to 15° to focus the sound toward your ears.
Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come installed in a swiveling flush-mount housing. You can also install the tweeters behind factory grilles using the included stealth mount brackets. The stealth mount brackets can be top or bottom mounted. The installed tweeter dimensions are:
|Flush Mount (swivel)||Factory Location (bottom mount)||Factory Location (top mount)|
|Frame Diameter||2.275"||1.7" x 2.8"||1.7" x 2.8"|
Crossovers: The SPR-60C features low-pass crossovers attached to each woofer's input terminal and separate high-pass crossovers in-line between the woofers and tweeters. Because the crossovers are separate, the system can be bi-amped. Two-sided tape is included to mount the high-pass crossovers and their dimensions are:
Tweeter Attenuation: Each crossover has four tweeter level options, allowing you to precisely tune the high frequencies to the car interior and tweeter placement. Using the supplied jumpers select 0dB (no attenuation), -2dB, -4dB, or -6dB.
I like Alpine speakers for their clarity in terms of highs and high-midrange frequencies. To me they sound clean and crisp. Bass isn't really their strong point as my past set of Infinity components had a frequency range 20hz below these, but the Get a pair half off sale peaked my interest. Definitely much clearer than the infinity's but those were also 6x8's, and low-midrange/bass will be handled for me by a nice 12" sub and a half off pair of SPR-68's [ Mark Jan 18, 2016 ]
I bi-amped these speakers with a JL Audio 700/5v2. I believe it is 75 watts per channel. The system works great and sounds great. Very nice to have more control over the tweeter and woofer. [ Ernest Feb 11, 2016 ]
To be honest I don't know . All I can say I'm very happy with alpine speakers [ SERGIO Dec 04, 2015 ]
One of the terminals will be larger than the other. You can simply purchase quick slide connectors like these: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120FQS10PK/Metra-Female-Quick-Slides.html If we have a harness available for your vehicle, then it will have a connection on one end to connect to your vehicles wiring. The other end will have quick slide connectors for attaching to the speaker. [ Jeff Mar 14, 2014 ] Staff
I am not sure about about your first question although I do not believe that there is any way to adjust them. As for your second question the 5th connector is for bi-amping, if you would like to add a separate amp to your speakers you would use this negative connector. [ Greg M Apr 15, 2014 ]
I had it installed. so sorry can't answer your question. [ PAUL E Dec 16, 2013 ]
