About the Alpine SPR-68

Buck Pomerantz

Exceptional performance, even at high volume

Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Like it loud? Alpine designed their Type-R speakers for people who like to turn it up. They'll deliver big, dynamic sound with plenty of bass, and they'll handle lots of volume. They'll work great with your car stereo, but they really come into their own when you power them with an outboard amp.

Fine-tuned for clarity and balance

The Type-R SPR-68 6"x8" speakers feature multi-layer hybrid fiber woofers that deliver really strong bass response. Alpine's adapted the specially ridged surround, originally developed for their subs, to these speakers, so you get consistent, extended cone movement that pushes a lot of air. The silk tweeters use a superior ring-dome design to produce smooth highs that bring out your music's detail and depth with no shrillness, plus they swivel to focus the sound better for your seating position.

Smaller, stronger neodymium magnets

Alpine uses powerful neodymium magnets which are much smaller than traditional magnets, so the SPR-68's high-density polymer frames will fit into more places than most 6"x8" speakers. Type-R speakers have earned their reputation in the past as the masters of "crank it to the max," but Alpine has really kicked the performance factor of the latest models up a notch or two.

Product Research

Features

Woofers: The Alpine Type-R series coaxial speakers feature multi-layered hybrid fiber woofer cones. For durability and superior linearity, the woofers use rubber surrounds.

HAMR Surround: Type-R speakers use Alpine's multi roll HAMR surround (patent pending), a technology developed for Alpine subwoofers that maintains control and stability at higher volume levels. HAMR surround combines increased cone area and long linear cone excursion for deep, powerful bass response.

Swiveling Tweeters: The speakers are equipped with 1" (25mm) silk dome tweeters. Alpine's EQ Ring improves the tweeter's dispersion characteristics, providing excellent off-axis response. You can also tilt the tweeters up to 15° to focus the sound where it should be, not pointed at your feet.

Neodymium Magnet: The new smaller neodymium magnet on the Type-R series allows the speaker dimensions to be smaller, making them easier to install in a wide variety of vehicles. They are also lighter than designs using standard magnet technology.

HD Polymer Frame: The new Type-R speakers use a revolutionary HD Polymer frame, making the speaker stronger, lighter, and easier to install.

Mounting: The SPR-68 speakers fit both 6x8 and 5x7 applications. Please confirm fit using the Crutchfield Vehicle Selector.

Q
Will these run on my aftermarket head unit that is 17w RMS WITH A PEAK OF 55 watts?

Yes, and they will sound great. I have 4 of them running on an Alpine pdr-f50 getting 90 watts a piece and these speakers sound AMAZING !! If you decide later on to put some real wattage to them they will not disappoint.
scott  Nov 28, 2016
A
I believe it would if you match the impedance from your amp to these speakers. Is that 17W per channel?
skylar  Nov 22, 2016

Hi I am running 4 of these off my Pioneer FH-X830BHS CD Receiver in a 2001 Lincoln LS and they sound great.

Yes they work but I recommend this with amplifier to get the real sound

Q
Ok so i see alot of people said the bass is mid-range, but is it at least better than the stock ones? and can you at least feel some bass because my stock 2001 mustang speakers have some kicking bass but not as clear and not gonna lie they sound bad.

I replaced my stock 2006 F150 with these. Much, much better quality than stock. Bass?, if you want bass, then add a sub. These don't bump the truck, but the bump way better than the stock one.
michael  Jun 24, 2016

I find the bass to be good on these speakers -and definitely better than stock (2002 Explorer with factory sub-woofer)
karl t  Jun 23, 2016

MUCH better than OEM speakers. No comparison. For real bass, a subwoofer is the solution - but for plenty loud, full frequency range and response I've been more than happy with the four speakers I put into my '95 T-bird.

Q
I had my heart set on these Alpine SPR-68 Type-R 6"x8" 2-way car speakers. I have a 2004 Ford F-150 Pickup, Single Cab (NON-Heritage), four doors (Suicide Doors), & No Factory Sub-woofer. My front & rear door speakers are 6"x8", but Cutchfield's speaker selector keeps telling me that these speakers will not fit my vehicle. I'm curious as to why they won't fit, since they are 6x8 speakers?
