But powerful output doesn't count for much if you don't like what you're hearing. Good value for money

Written By Albert, Western New York on Friday, July 31, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The aimable tweeters in these speakers made an audible difference in how the high end sounded in my car, since the speakers are in the doors but near the floor. Treble definition sounded better if only because the tweeters were easy to aim up toward passengers - which I did. They fit in the factory locations behind the factory grilles, which was nice because the supplied grilles would not be appropriate in the stock location. I also purchased and installed inexpensive thin foam baffles behind them to protect from moisture and dust should there be any in the door cavity.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these Alpines replacing the original paper cone speakers in a 1996 Jeep Cherokee. For 2 way they sound great. Installing them was not fun but that was not the fault of the speakers but the Jeep. The sound improvement was very noticeable from the paper original cone speakers that were in the vehicle. They look nice but if you plan on installing them in the front, the grills that come with the speakers do not protect them. Kids can stick their fingers in the speakers or pens and poke holes in them. If you plan to install them in your front doors try to utilize the door panel to protect the speakers. Nice bass for small speakers.

I was going from a stock 4 speaker set up, to 6 speakers & HD radio ( JVC KD-AHD59 This unit rocks ) with a 4 channel amp. (Alpine MRP-F250 Rocks as well ). Long story short I had to tie these speakers to the front 6x9's I was putting in the doors of my van. luckily the amp. is 2 ohm stable. I was not sure how it would sound, or if the amp. could handle the load, but these babys are real easy to drive they just rip it up. They have more bass than I thought they would & don't break up at volume. According to this web site these would not fit my ("07" Town & Country) in the dash, they just dropped right in no alterations needed. There may be better speakers out there but for the money these can not be beat.

Not too bad

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I originally got these for the front door of my 2008 Dodge Ram QC. I wasn't
very happy with the sound, just wasn't enough. The brackets they came
worked great though. I pulled them out of the front doors and decided to
see if they would fit in the rear doors even though Crutchfield said they
wouldn't fit. I was able to use 2 of the oem speaker holes, had to drill 2
more, and zip tie the wires out of the way of the window and they fit great.
They sound alot better in the rear doors than they did in the front.

Nice upgrade from factory speakers!
I have a 2006 Subaru STi and the factory speakers were rattling and sounded very poor. This speakers are a very good upgrade, if you want to keep your factory radio, but want better sound!

Crutchfield provided everything needed to make the installation very easy. The instructions on how to take the door panel off were very helpful--although they were not clear regarding exactly how to detach the wires in the armrest for the windows and door locks but I figured it out. The wiring harness and brackets made the job quick and professional. The speakers are much better than the factory system too. I'd highly recommmend Crutchfield.

Nice Upgrade at a Great Price

Written By Thomas, Greer, SC on Thursday, November 27, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got these speakers to replace the stock speakers in the roll bar location in
a 2006 Jeep Wrangler, after replacing the stock stereo with a Sony CDX-
GT630UI. At the same time, I replaced the dash speakers with Polk MOMO
MMC 460's (the Polks also are excellent).
Before I address the speakers, just let me say that to buy from anyone
other than Crutchfield would be a huge mistake. Crutchfield gives you
adapters, connectors, instructions, etc. that others charge you for. Plus,
their tech and customer support is unmatched by anyone I've ever dealt
with. I will buy ALL of my equipment from Crutchfield in the future.
These speakers are a big upgrade over the stock speakers. I listen to
Progressive Rock and these speakers perform great. The highs and mids
are as clear as crystal, and there is no distortion. As some reviews have
stated, the bass, while sufficient (with some tight punch), is not
outstanding. The bass is there, it is just tight and subtle, not window-
rattling. But, I didn't expect a whole lot of soft-top-shaking bass from a
5.25" speaker anyway. Next purchase will be a powered sub to take care
of that.
If you're looking for strong and clear music with no distortion, buy these
speakers, especially if you have (or are going to get) a sub. The price is
unbelievable for speakers of this quality.

Not up to Alpine standards.

These speakers were tinny for their size, and distorted at a moderate volume. I have had better experience with Alpine products in the past, and these were disappointing.

Great speakers for the price

Written By David, St. Louis on Thursday, October 16, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just got the speakers yesterday and they sound great. They are very crisp and clear. As others have said, the bass is what you should expect
out of a 5.25" speaker. These are by far the best speakers I've seen in this price range. Also, the free installation gear is awesome. Everything I needed was in the box, including step by step instructions for removing the door panels specifically for my car. With the help of the instuctions, installation took about two hours (for two people) to complete.

All in all, this is the best value around. I saved $40/pair on the speakers and $30/pair on the installation parts. Crutchfield's service was great and shipping was fast too (2 days on standard shipping).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound awesome. I have been trying to find speakers that
sound this good forever. the bass is perfect and the highs sound crisp and
not overpowering. They were a breeze to put in my 1999 bonneville. If your
looking for great sound at any price these are the ones you want. You
won't be dissappointed.

Good for the price, not thumpy bass

Written By Tadd, Long Beach, CA on Friday, July 11, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are very clear compared to the stock speakers in my volvo station wagon. They are very clean and tight and have a flat response. However they do not have "alot of bass" as some people have noticed. They do not really thump down at the 80-100Hz level, but they do rumble down at the 60-70Hz level, so they do have good bass response just not the punchy stuff most people want.

I left my stock speakers in the back seat because they really hit hard at the right bass frequencies but they are so muddy. These Alpines in the front finally gets me all the content of the music.

When I first powered these up they sounded really flat and yucky and I was worried, but you can tell they are clean speakers because they really respond well to EQing and once I got them dialed they sound great. Also, I only have 16WATTS per channel so I have to push them a little to sound good because they are rated much higher and are quite stiff, which is good to avoid distortion.

Summary: For the price they sound great after EQing, they don't punch like you might want but they do get down to 60Hz cleanly in my opinion. If you have low wattage you have to push them to get a better sound. They resist overdrive well if your EQing is conservative. You will probably not enjoy these unless you have some other speakers punching at 80-120Hz in the system, like a sub or somthing, but they get the full range of High frequencies.

Not the alpine quality speakers I expected

Written By Ijoo, Little Ferry, NJ on Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was satisfied with Alpine SPS-17CS 6.5 speakers on my previous car. I
gave these a try for my 2007 Honda Civic. The volume is way too low, I'm
not even talking about bass, just the overall volume. I've returned these
and got Blaupunkt GTc652 components which are much better speakers. If
you can mount bigger speakers on your car, do so, small speakers are far
more inferior to bigger speakers. Maybe I got a defect set, but I would still
look at other speakers here on CF. A lot of good selections out there, be
patient and look around. Make sure you read the product reviews too. I
learned a lot of things reading the reviews.

Excellent mids and highs

Written By James, Dallas, Texas on Friday, April 25, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a JVC KD HDR1 receiver which I bought from Crutchfield and at the
time of purchase I also bought some 6x8 aftermarket speakers. I have a
Ford Focus ST with factory subwoofer. I had always had problems with
heavy bass (even with sub turned down). My front left Pioneer 3-way went
out and I replaced them with these Alpine 2-way 5 1/4". Oh my gosh; I
now hear the highs and mids that I have been missing since the first day I
installed the JVC receiver. I had my doubts at first because the speakers
were smaller and only 2-way but they came with adapter brackets which
made installation a breeze. I highly recommend these speakers; especially
for the front doors.

Tight, crisp, clear.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I initially purchased two for the front doors and I liked them so much I
purchased two more for the rear. The improvement in the sound with just
replacing the speakers surprised me! Very clear highs, but not brassy. The
bass for this size was impressive. Tight, not boomy. But don't expect
subwoofer-type bass though. They are only 5 & 1/4".

Good for mids

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are miles ahead of the stock speakers. Put these in the wife's jeep wrangler with 5 1/4 adapters to get rid of the 4 by 6 front speakers.

The speakers are amplified by an infinity five channel amp and provide outstanding highs and mids amplified at 50 watts rms. For a jeep wrangler you will >need< an amp and I plan on adding a sub for the low bass as no 5 1/4 will ever give you below 80Hz cleanly.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very clear and crisp, you will hear parts of your music you didn't know were there. These replaced a set of sony's I had, these are MUCH better. Like others have stated, it is lacking as far as bass goes, but who needs bass when ya have a sub(s). The crutchfield sales team is always helpful and the only site I buy from due to their great prices, help, and extremely fast shipping. Only took 2 days to recieve my speakers!
I would definitly recommend these speakers if you care about quality!

I have a 93' Colrolla sedan and it took about 1 1/2 hours to install. I did have to shave the bracket down quite a bit for it to fit properly. I just have it running from the head unit but it sounds great. Awesome highs, good mid and ok bass but what can you expect form a 5 1/4" speaker. I did how ever come across a short in the wiring somewhere in my car and im still trying to find out where it is. Over all the speakers sounds amazing, easy install and great price. You can't go wrong!

A nice upgrade

Written By James, Flint, MI on Friday, January 05, 2007

I've got these in the doors of my Monte Carlo along with the matching 6X9's in the rear deck. I'm still using the factory stereo (for now) but am feeding them each 50w rms with a 4ch amp. They have very good dynamic range, playing clean & clear with crisp highs and decent lows. They seem to be quality built speakers & I especially like the swivel tweeters for directing the highs towards the listeners. Overall, I'm happy with these speakers.

no doubt,great speakers

Written By Andre, New York on Tuesday, October 10, 2006

One can't seriously compare these to the cheap factory speakers since that is no measure.

The sound that comes out of this Alpine system are accurate and any ear can distinguish the most subtle changes and appreciate the distinct instruments in every song. The bass is tight and satisfying.

I was recommended to match Alpine speakers to an Alpine head-unit and so far it is music to my ears. You will not be dissapointed. The price was very reasonable for the quality product.

Although, you have to keep in mind when doing a DIY on your door panel that some of the car part locking pieces are plastic and very brittle. And after learning on one door, the opposite side will be a breeze! Also the rear deck install is a piece of cake compared to the front doors.

Crutchfield do know their business, kudos to their support staff.

Very Crisp Highs

Written By pezaholic, Berkshires MA on Tuesday, September 19, 2006

I've always had Alpine products in my vehicles. Amps, HUs, speakers, too. When I purchased my latest vehicle, it already had an Alpine HU installed (bonus), but had stock speakers in all factory locations.

I added a self powered sub for low-end support, replaced my rears w/ decent mids, and purchased these Alpine 5-1/4's for the front stage.

With only 6x9's in the rear deck and these 5.25's in the front w/o an amp on the rear, the sound stage was too high for my taste. The sub in the rear fills the lows, the 6x9's in the rear deck are good for "fill", but the bulk of the sound comes from the front.

These Alpines are so sharp and so crisp, it made my system very unbalanced. They are an excellent speaker and have an awsome clear sound at low power and at full crank-up. No distortion of any kind. Just a little too high for my setup. I wished they were a little more suppporting in the midrange level. I ended up replacing them with a 5.25 that supports a little more mid and not so much high.

the best speaker in this price range by far! I liked them so much I fabricated a custom doorpanel so they would fit my chevy tahoe. The bass is not too powerful, but it has way better mids and highs than the factory speakers!

A great speaker for the price! especially if you have a subwoofer or larger speakers to handle the bass!

The best speakers I have ever owned!!!!!!

These speakers get the job done!

Written By mfenimore, New York, NY on Sunday, June 11, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After 10 years of factory installed speakers in my '96 Volvo 850, it was time to give the sound system an upgrade. The Alpine SPS-13C2 speakers are the perfect match between cost and performance. Other fetures that made these speakers stand out from the rest was their frequency response (45-35,000Hz). Compared to other brands like Polk, Kenwood, and Boston, these have the widest range. The tweeters on these speakers are very crisp while the 5 1/4 speaker handels the bass equally as well. It would be nice to get more bass out of these speakers but they are only 5 1/4 size. Don't get me wrong, they still rattle the car but you'll want to nudge your bass levels up on your cars equalizer. I've had these speakes cranked up and there is no clipping and they can handle the volume.

Overall the sound in my car is now richer and fuller and I look forward to hopping in the car and going for a long cruise. It's amazing what a simple thing like a speaker upgrade can do for your car. Goodby factory speakers!

Pros: Cost, Frequency Response, Fuller sound
Cons: Can't think of any.
