I was about to upgrade my stock speakers with these alpines, but when I pulled the grill off, I found out that my car already had these speakers installed. Good for me, but not so good for alpine. I should be able to tell the difference between stock civic speakers and alpines. Nonetheless, not a bad sound. Woofers are weak. I'd look towards something else if you want good bass.

Pretty good for the price, they sound just fine in my car, I have them in the rear and polks up front. They hit way harder than the polks do might have to upgrade the front too.

I purchased a pair of these speakers to replace my factory speakers. They are a great value. however, if you are looking for bass, look elsewhere. At high volume, the speakers gets distorted. At the time i didnt have an amp. it was power by alpine 9833 head unit. after i put in an amp, it sounded horrible. I replaced this with polk audio db67500. Very satisfy with polk.

In conclusion.
these speakers are good if you are powering from a headunit.and if you are trying to upgrade your speakers without spending too much.

These are really good speakers if you are not looking for thumping bass. The clarity of the mids and highs is phenomenal and they bring out all of the details in my music with zero destortion. The bass isn't the best I've heard from a 6 1/2" speaker, but it's certainly not terrible. If you really want bass of course, add a sub or two. The speakers fit perfectly in my 1995 Taurus and I have had no problems so far. Definitely worth the money.

I installed these in my 1998 Chevy Z71 front doors. The speakers are a nice upgrade from the factories. These speakers are great for the heavy metal/hard rock type of music I listen to. These speakers are comparable to any other high end brands I've owned over the years (Pioneer, Kicker, Infinity). There might be slightly more distortion than the Infinity counter-parts have at higher volumes, but these cost a little bit less. Also Crutchfield's customer service is second to none. The provided instructions & wire harnesses made the job very user friendly.

These speakers were beyond my expectations, they are very clear and i think are the best speakers around. If your an Alpine guy these are the speakers to go for these will not be any less then Excellent!

I had to replace the Infinity Gold rear speakers so I searched on the WWW and found Crutchfield with their amazing site of what fits, reviews, etc. The rep I spoke too made me aware that I needed the wire harness and the panel tool. Using the master sheet, I was able to replace all 4 speakers and used the Alpine adapter to fit the speakers just right. The sound is better in the highs and mids, I can hear the energy in live music. I need to let these "Break In" as per tech support. Keep an eye out for these , a great deal from Crutchfield.

I used these speakers to replace stock speakers... A pair front and another pair rear.

However, over the years, I have had many cars and several speaker systems - including components... And everything from Kenwood to polk to MB quart to Boston Acoustics... And I would rate these speakers as good as the majority of mid-level component systems out there now. The sound quality is amazing - especially considering the price!

Keep in mind, these are 6 1/2" drivers - not 8" or 10" woofers! So be aware that they, or any other 6 1/2" driver, are NOT made for the ultra-lows produced by some of the hard core hip-hop songs... If this is your genre of music, then I do suggest you cross out anything below 90-100hz...

Otherwise, the lows that are produced are excellent! And the mids and highs are astonishing for a system in this price range.

AT $79.99-$99.99 per pair, I would rank these speakers with the best!

I just bought a 2006 Toyota Matrix with the plain-jane 4 speaker factory system. Really muddy sound and fair bass for what it is.

So I installed Alpine SPS-170A 6-1/2" in the the rear doors and, because of fit limitations, Kenwood KFC-1669S 6-1/2" in the front doors.

The factory Toyota Matrix speakers were designed with an excellent seal to the sheet metal of the door and to the plastic door panel. Basically, the factory speakers mount about 1" above the sheet metal using an all-in-one speaker and mount. I only mention this because the Alpines and Kenwoods can't make use of this excellent seal set up and this limits their bass a bit. The Alpines and Kenwoods make no more bass than the factory paper speakers.

That said, both of these speaker pairs are much better than the factory speakers for clarity, mids, and highs. All only powered with the original Toyota Matrix head unit.

If you can figure out a way to high mount the Alpines in the front doors to clear the lowered window glass, do it. The Alpines with their swivel aim tweeters are outstanding. Head and shoulders above the Kenwoods. My passengers in the back seat are some lucky people.

Next for my Toyota Matrix, a powered sub for more bass.

I just put these speakers in my 1998 K1500 p/u along with a pioneer deh3700 head unit. I have to say, I tought Crutchfield's service was second to none as they gave me everything i needed to put these bad boys in at no extra charge. The shipping was ultra fast and the instructions they give you rock! After putting the 6 1/2's in the doors i noticed a huge difference in sound quality, although bass response took a while as they need to break in a bit before they sound their best. I was at first skeptical about ordering stuff through here, but after I got the speakers delivered to my door fast, I was sold. These speakers sound great!! I can't wait to hear them w/ bass blockers on the door speakers and a subwoofer under the rear seat. I will most def. buy from Crutchfield again!!!
