Alpine's Type-S speakers combine outstanding materials and construction with an attractive price. Their efficient design provides powerful sound even when system power is low — yet beefy internal parts ensure they can handle it when you crank the volume.

But powerful output doesn't count for much if you don't like what you're hearing. The SPS-17C2 6-1/2" speakers are bound to please your ears — pivoting silk dome tweeters direct clear highs to your ears without a hint of harshness. The aluminum-coated woofer cones move freely in the air-injected rubber surrounds for full, strong, and accurate bass response.

Priced per pair
Note: Sorry, Crutchfield cannot ship Alpine products to Guam or Puerto Rico.

Good low end on these speakers. Middle tweeter pivots. Materials used should withstand hot temps and sun light. The cones move allot due to bass excursion when pushing them. Make sure you don't use other shallow speaker grills.

These speakers rock. They cary a full range of sound. they don't go way down deep but that is what a sub is for. I adjusted my amp to the high pass to keep the lows out of them and they go load and no distortion. great buy for the money.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ever so sad to see that these are discotinued, these speakers sound great in the 04 Honda Accord that I installed them in. I would not however say that these speakers are a "direct" fit replacement. It did take a little fabricating as the holes in the doors, are somewhat smaller, for making the speaker fit flush. However the speaker mounting adaptors that came with these, help out this situation alot. Still was a little of work to get them mounted to where they will fit the door panel area for the speakers, but once they were in...OHHH what a fantastic sound they brought out, far better then the factory originals. Was hoping to get some more for others!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was planning on getting a subwoofer (Alpine Type-R 12") for my car, but knew that I needed to upgrade my speakers to make sure that the mids and highs would still come through. I installed them about a month ago, and these speakers have great clarity and really brings the music to life! You will notice a huge difference in sounds quality, especially if upgrading from basic, stock speakers. Be aware that because this speaker is designed to reproduce mids and highs, you will probably get less bass response from them. This is normal. If you need/want bass, get a subwoofer -- don't try to pump it through these speakers. All-in-all: Great quality at a great price! Also, Crutchfield includes basically everything (except tools) to make sure you've got what you need for installation -- wiring kits, adaptor plates (if necessary), and directions (real men don't need 'em!).

Great Product, Great Price. The difference between the factory stock speakers and the Alpines was NOTICEABLE! I have always been an Alpine fan, and Crutchfield offered a great price on these discontinued speakers. With the economic times being what they are, the cost/value on this product is way up there. Thanks Crutchfield!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these because they would fit my 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab, they were recommended by Crutchfield as an easy install and because the lousey (stock) paper front speakers were split and ratteling. ... and further offered from the Crutchfield "Scratch and Dent" department for another ten bucks off. BTW, there was not a single scratch orf dent or anything mark at all on them!! For door speakers, install was a snap. While the rear door speakers still work OK, I'm thinking about replacing them with Alpines too. In addition to the door speakers, I had already added a small (8") Audiobahn sub (w/ Kicker amp). The sub is enclosed in a small carpeted box that sits on the floor behind the drivers seat. For me, age 61, this system meets my needs perfectly and Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffett and The Mavericks sound awesome!!

2006 Honda CRV LX
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 pair of these speakers to replace the horrible stock speakers in my 06 Honda CRV. I had to enlarge the mounting location for the speakers and purchased the baffles to help with the sound. I ended up having to use spacers to bump the speaker and baffles out about 1/2" so they wouldn't interfere with the power window. Now, i also added two tweeters (real ones) and did some re-wiring so i could use my own 4-channel amplifier. I have the two tweeters and the two rear-door speakers running off the amp and the front-door speakers running directly from the deck (Kenwood Excelon KDC-X792). The end result is a great sounding system. Now, the bass isn't trunk-rattling, but it does sound nice. I originally wanted to try the baffles without cutting a port in them and you could tell the sound wasn't at 100%, so after about a week i took them out and cut port-holes in them and it definitely made a difference. They are still new and still sound a little tight, so i'm sure after a few more weeks, they will loosen up and sound even better.

If you dont have an aftermarket stereo i would say not to buy them because i dont think you will have enough power to make them sound good. Not much bass unless i turn my bass boost on +6 but thats not that smart. These are great speakers for people just wanting a little upgrade, GREAT for the Price!!!

Written by: William from Ashburn, VA on November 21, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these last weekend in my fiances 2004 Honda Pilot. These blow away the factory alpines. Mids and Highs are crisp and clean at any volume. The bass is not going to shake your rear view but it is refreshingly tight with no distortion. At high volumes or bass levels, they do vibrate the doors with most hip hop. For 6.5 you shouldnt be dissapointed. Replacing the factory sub this weekend anyway. Great deal for the price. She loves them and couldnt be happier with the new sound. "Factory speakers suck, huh? These sound better than the bose in our lexus" to quote her. Shes right and I think I have to upgrade that system. Cant have her car sounding better than mine. I generally never write reviews but wanted to post this one to give Honda Pilot owners a heads up. Installation is a breeze in the front doors. Just a few little cuts in the factory baffles to make a nice fit, anyone could do it. The rears doors are a different story. The baffle is slighter smaller, forcing you to modify it like crazy. What a pain! If you are handy... then the price more than jusitfys the headache. However if you are taking on an install for the first time, and arent a rig master, this may be more than you want to deal with. Consider some of the shallower 6.5s on crutchfield for the rear doors. They will install with the same ease at the front doors. Buy these with confidence!

After replacing stock speakers in the rear deck with these speakers, I decided to replace the doors as well. For the money, they are excellent speakers that provide great highs, and good bass. For those complaining of bass, and if you feel these speakers don't provide enough bass, a separate sub is needed. I've always used Pioneer, Polk, and Kenwood speakers in the past. I must admit for the money, these are excellent. And Crutchfield's free stuff makes the install a delight.

These are great sounding speakers. They replaced two blown stock speakers in the front doors. 2002 Chevy Silverado. Alpine deck, stock speakers in the rear ext cab doors, and 10" powered sub. I purchased the sub after I re-did the speakers and deck knowing I would want to do this. I like well rounded stereos, I listen to almost all types of music and these do a good job. You are not paying 500 bucks for these so why would you expect that kind of performance? For mids and highs they are good. FOr what I payed they are really good sounding. With the sub they sound perfect.

These Alpines are great! I installed these as a replacement for the stocks in my Tundra rears. I am running the stock head and amp, so I was looking for a good, high sensitivity speaker, that had decent bass response. This hit it right on the head. These sound a lot better than what I had. In fact, these make me notice that I have rear speakers now. Before, you didn't even know that there was speakers in the back. I got them for better bass reproduction, but I am most impressed with the mids and highs. Installation was a breeze. It all fit perfectly, and I was done in under one hour. And that included getting a beer midway through. Overall, I am quite happy, and would really consider these for any application.

I had these installed in my 2002 Saab 9-3 hatcback paired with an alpine cda-9886 I purchased at the same time I did the pair for my front door speakers that had no speakers at the time. My Saab came with 4 speakers 2 in the dash and 2 in the side panel with 2 openings in the front doors but "No speakers" I did some research and found out that the 2 extra speakers in the front doors and extra amp was part of a premium package that was not acquired from the first owner is my guess. Well now that the background of the purchase is explained let me tell you that I am very happy with my purchase not just with the speakers but the customer service. I recieved an email with concern on compatibility so I called explained my situation and knowledge about my front door speakers non existence and the representative suggest I get wiring due to the very likely chance there would be none of it and no wire harness. The chances came to play finding out that there was no wiring or wire harness and the extra 8 dollars came to be worth it. I have to say I am already planning out the next set of speakers, subwoofers, amps etc. to complete my system all from crutchfield :D P.S. take into acount free shipping and fast processing. I ordered sunday and got everything tuesday.

Im running these speakers in the rear doors of my 2001 jeep cherokee, fully custom install, its not a factory location (to those who may be interested this involved only drilling mounting holes, running the wires and making a few slits in the door panel to let the sand through). Im feeding them 55 watts RMS each. They sound great, nice balanced response, not to heavy on the treble mid or bass, they lack true bottom end, but so do anything smaller than 6x8's except in competition series. They really dont need the power, they run well off of a head unit. They balance well with my otherwise al-polk setup, the soundstage is similar. In short, good sound and they stand up to my EXTREME volume abuse, slight overpowering and poor location.

I upgraded front door stock speakers on 2005 Toyota Camry with 6.5" Alpine SPS-17C2 and did not feel much improvement in sound quality. Sound from higher range was more clear, but there was no difference in bass. When comparing these to stock rear speakers (used Fade feature on car stereo to switch sound from front to back), I could not hear much bass at all from Alpine speakers. Tested with HD Radio unit Dual XHD6425. Then I switched from Alpine SPS-17C2 to 6x9 Blaupunkt GTx693 and vola! Bass and all sounds ranges came alive and now with Blaupunkt I can enjoy HD radio and MP3.

One of the factory installed paper speakers died in my Dakota, so it was a great opportunity to replace the poor stock speakers with something good. Wow, what an amazing upgrade these were over the factory speaker. The sound clarity, the depth, and the bass are excellent. I would love to have gone for a higher quality speaker, but at the costs per set, I could not pass up these Alpines. I had never installed a speaker before, but the Crutchfield instructions were perfect, step-by-step, in showing me exactly how to remove the door panel and old speakers and to install the new ones. Including the time spent reading the instructions and finding the screw that I dropped, the total install time was 75 minutes. P.S. Don't forget to pivot the tweeters according to the speaker location BEFORE you close the door panels. That added an additional 30 minutes, when I had to reopen the door to adjust the tweeters.

These speakers sound amazing. I first tested them using an aftermarket Pioneer head unit, and they work well with it. I am now driving them using a 100x2 amp, and they sound even better when you can turn them up. It seems like playing them at lower volumes doesn't quite produce their full sound. They do have very good bass for 6.5" speakers. My amp has a selectable high pass filter (flat, 125 Hz, 60 Hz), and all three sound different. So the speakers do have some response down very low (spec curve shows a flat response down to around 100 Hz). I am sure they would be enhanced by a subwoofer that plays only below 100 Hz, but a sub is far from necessary for just enjoying music. Summary: These are great speakers for the money!

A great value for the price. They sound as good as speakers that cost $100+. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm pretty happy with the speakers and the price is excellent. There are two minor issues: 1) The screws it came with only included machine screws for mounting without the covers--the covers clearly line up with the machine screw holes but require a much longer machine screw. It did come with clips and sheet metal screws for the adapter, however. 2) Several people have commented that the highs are a bit much. I've put my trebel in the "negative" to compensate. Not a terrible problem and more easily compensated for than the opposite I suppose. Overall, for the price, a good deal and I'm much happier than I was without them.

Great choice for stock speaker replacements

Written by: Andrew from Bremerton, WA on August 25, 2008

I got these as part of a sound upgrade "project" for my 07 Civic EX sedan, and the difference between these speakers and the stock ones was incredible. The sound from these coaxes are much better than the separates that came with the system and much more than I was expecting. These weigh a lot more and the magnet diameter is about 3 times as large as the stock woofer. The materials used for these are much better as well. As far as installation, some drilling was required to mount them, but it was pretty simple. These are a great deal and they shouldn't be passed up if you're looking for a simple upgrade to your sound.

Installed these in an 07 Accord Sedan front door with adapters sent by Crutchfiled. Drilled three holes for each adapter and the speakers went on those. No modification of the door panel required at all. The mounting depth was 2 1/4 (pretty deep) and there was plenty of clearance on the door panel and the window behind the magnet. Completed both in an hour. Directions, adapters and harnesses from Crutchfield good, as always. 4 stars because less bass than I would expect from a 6 1/2 this hefty but very clear mids/highs and how much complaining can you do for this price!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

the advisor said these speakers would NOT fit my 1995 honda del-sol, however I ordered them anyways because it was such a great deal. upon first inspection, they do not fit the car, BUT Alpine includes a kind of "one-fits-all" harness. the trick for the del-sol is you have to break off the outer tabs, then it fits perfectly inside the stock speaker housing. you line up the screw holes, use the old screws, and screw the Alpine speakers into the harness (it comes with screws). perfect fit. in fact the harness is necessary since the depth of the speakers is too deep without it and the magnet would stick to the back of the car. as for sound -- well this is my first day with them. sound is obviously way better than stock speakers, but the bass seems a little lower than my (cheaper) kenwoods. my experience with them is limited so far so take that for what it's worth.. I just wanted to let other honda owners know that they fit with the included Alpine harness.

I installed these in the front doors of an '02 Mitsubishi Galant. The sound over stock is incredible. The highs are much more crisp and although the lows aren't overwhelming, they are a far cry better than OEM speakers. For the price you can't go wrong. The quality of materials and workmanship of these speakers is good, and as always installation was made easier by the hard working folks at Crutchfield. The only thing I really didn't like about the speakers is the adapter ring. My factory speakers are 6 3/4" while the Alpine's are 6 1/2" but have a plastic ring that fills that gap. Because the ring isn't very symmetrical, I couldn't line up all my holes and so one side was not bolted down as tight and would flap around. I couldn't drill another hole on that side because there is not enough door material to grab for a good fit. I ended up using an adhesive on the back of the ring and screwing down the holes that did line up. A minor inconvenience, and only something that applies to this particular year, make, and model of vehicle. A car that uses an actual 6 1/2" speaker will more likely be a true drop in fit.

At first it wasn't as good as the stockers I had in there, but once I got all 4 installed and tried them out the sound was there. I know you're supposed to break these in or something but I can tell you now these speakers "get it" right now ! They sounded so good, I decided to also replace the HU with a Pioneer DEH- P7000BT so that I could play MP3 files and HD radio. The new HU really made a great improvement in the sound of these speakers. I only had a couple of installation questions that the service folks at Crutchfield were able to immediately answer. Installation went well for a first-timer. Instructions were complete and clear. The success of this project has led me to decide to replace the speakers and probably the HU in my wife's Civic. Excellent buy for the money. You can always count on Alpine for quality equipment and I doubt theres another speaker out there under $100 that will compare with these. I replaced the rear factory speakers in my 05 Frontier (which at this point sounded like wax paper flapping in the wind) with these and the mids and highs are much clearer. However, they run at 4 ohms while the old factory ones were 2ohms, so the bass response is unimpressive. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed these in a 2001 Nissan Altima, replacing OEM. Stephen gave me very good advice about replacing the rear speakers as well. The tweeters on these protrude a bit higher than most, so could not do front and back, though if I knew how good they sounded, I might have done some mods to the rear deck to make them fit. The wire harnesses were perfect and the installation guides were spot on. At first, I was concerned about the amount of disassembling needed for both doors and the rear deck, but there were no problems whatsoever. The complaint about lack of bass is unfounded, unless you expect a 6.5" speaker to sound like a 10" sub. There is adequate bass for a passenger vehicle, and the overall sound is clear and vibrant. Using the OEM CD/AM/FM radio, the cabin is filled with amazing sound. Is there a booming, deep thump of bass? No, but the speakers are very capable of playing rap, r&b, gospel, jazz, and rock. If you want booming lows, invest in a subwoofer/amp configuration. If you are looking to breathe new life into your original system, these are a great buy!!!

I like a brilliant sound, these speakers fit my preferences well. Coupled with the factory receiver and the original rear speakers I get all the bass I want. I don't want a distorted, boomy sound, ergo levels are less than roof rattling. I gave these speakers a five star based on what I had to compare them to, and since those were factory single driver units my rating may be considered rather uninformed. Paired with the Kenwood CD player in my dash, which has been in use for 3 years with the stock speakers, these Alpines produce much poorer bass than the cheap OEM units, which does not speak to highly of a touted name such as Alpine. I paired these with a Kenwood KDC-MP338. Great speakers and massive improvement over 15-year-old OEM speakers. Very clear sound throughout spectrum. Noticeably clear and strong high frequencies, so much so that I turned the treble down a bit on the head unit. I'm also impressed with the bass response. It's enough to show me all the loose plastic in the car. The speaker adapter that came with the speakers do not work in the '93 Saturn SC2. Using the free 6 1/2" to 6 3/4" speaker adapters that Crutchfield included with the order, I was able to install these without cutting out the factory front speaker cups (as recommended by Crutchfield). The speaker adapter raises the speaker just enough to prevent it from bottoming out in the cup. Great instructions included for installation. The tweeters are actually movable in these, too. I'm not sure I would have purchased these had they been at full price, but for the sale price, these offer a lot more than I expected!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 pairs of these for my VW Jetta VR6. At first they just sounded okay when powered by the HU. Once I installed the Alpine 50 rms x4 amp to these speakers, I was blown away by the sound. Alpine makes some of the best quality components. You can't go wrong with these Alpines. I highly recommend them to everyone!

Tone Deaf

Written by: Jeffre916 from Hampton, VA on April 7, 2008

Overall for the price I can't complain too much. I will say that these speakers have a very crisp and clean output on the high-end. Too high. It personally gives me a headache listening to them for too long. Trying to adjust out the upper mids and high treble will only degrade the upper bass and lower mid range frequencies. I would say they're perfect for a boat. I also didn't like the fact that they only came with sheet metal screws and clips. On a Nissan Frontier threaded screws with some type of locknut would have been better for mounting since the speaker hole lip is formed instead of being flat. The magnet weight is not ideal for vertical mounting in doors (distortion). I should have paid closer attention to the tweeter material.

Strong mid and high frequencies, but not as good bass

Written by: James from Phillipsburg, NJ on April 2, 2008

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I initially installed these (front and rear) in my 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD crew cab using the stock HU. Bad idea; they sounded awful (even though Alpine claims they can be used in low power situations I found that not to be true). To rectify the problem I bought a Blaupunkt Hamburg MP57 which Crutchfield's website says has 25 watts -- but Blaupunkt's website says it only has 18 watts -- so I can't say for certain how much power the speakers are really getting. They do sound better now, but still not as good as perhaps they should. I can start out by saying the mid's and high's are very solid; voices, guitars, cymbals, various other stringed instruments all have a strong, clear presence. Those frequency ranges are very impressive, perhaps too much so because it certainly highlights the weak bass. As a matter of fact, an argument could be made that Alpine should have spent a little less R&D money on the tweeter and a bit more on the woofer. While the bass sound is pretty good, the output is not. Now, I'm not expecting bone-rattling bass, but from someone who has been an audiophile for the better part of 30 years I don't believe what I did expect was more then four 6.5" speakers should have been able to provide. Judging by some of the other comments I see I'm not alone either; quiet a number have mentioned the impressive mid's and high's, while lamenting the less the acceptable low's. If you can swing adding a subwoofer to your system then these speakers would be fabulous. The wiring adapters Crutchfield sent worked like a charm, but the directions I got for pulling off the rear door panels weren't even close (fronts were accurate). I don't know what went wrong their. In the back of the Silverado are plastic brackets that the factory speaker bolted to, which in turn was secured to the door. There's really no way of mounting speakers without reusing that bracket, but the Alpines mounting screws were a fraction wider then the stock speakers, forcing the screws in at a slight angle. I was able to get them reasonably tight though, so hopefully that won't present any future problems. The plastic bracket up front couldn't be reused but the speakers easily fit in the existing cutout, so I just drilled a few small holes in the door. I also installed the shallow foam baffles (not included with the speakers -- they're an extra cost option), which was supposed to increase the bass. Since the bass is relatively weak I'm not certain if they actually did much to improve it, but I do know this: -- The baffles in the rear doors touch the window as it's going up and down. It's slight, but there is contact. Only time will tell if that creates a problem (for the baffle and/or the power window motor). -- They can vibrate, creating what sounds like a blown speaker. Shortly after installing them I started to hear what appeared to be that bad speaker vibration from the drivers side front.

1999 Saturn SL2
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading several reviews and comparing all the specs, I decided on two pair of the 17C2 (6 1/2") for my 99 Saturn. They bolted right in and the jumper harness has worked so far. I've had these in the Saturn for about a month now and I'm very satisfied - they provide excellent sound for the price. I listen to all kinds of music of varying genres. The only problem I've noticed is in the high-mids (i.e. cymbals). The sound gets slightly muddled, but not enough to make a large difference. These speakers have so much depth and bass it almost sounds as if I have a mini-sub installed. And so far no sign of distortion.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my brother's Jeep ('98 Cherokee front doors, run off of a Pioneer HU) in the past and was impressed, but I just recently bought a couple of sets for my own vehicle.

I picked up an '08 Legacy and swore off aftermarket stereo systems. After just a month with the car, I realized that I needed something more than stock, particularly after getting rid of an SQ-oriented setup in my past car.

I initially planned to get 1 set of 6.5" coaxials for the front doors (to later be moved to the rear for fill), until I decided on my next move, but these were so affordable that I bought 2 sets to run off of the stock HU. Install was straightforward, and the harnesses were a perfect fit, though I used my own custom spacers. It was really nice to have everything that I needed in one box.

As for the speakers, the sound is good, not great. Off of the stock headunit, midbass is limited, but highs and midrange are fairly strong, with a stage that is remarkably high for coaxials in a flat mount low in the doors. Sound still originates at the dash level, even with the stock $0.10 tweeters disconnected entirely and with the seats pretty far forward (due to me being short). Clarity is limited by the HU quality, as these sound more rich, clear, and full in the '98 Cherokee with better HU power than my stock HU can provide.

I think that with either a small amp or a better HU, these could really shine.

Are they better then stock? Certainly. Are they world-beaters? Not at all. Are they a great value for the money? Absolutely.

I just picked up 4 of these speakers. What a deal! This is the best deal I have ever seen in terms of car stereo equipment. Take advantage of the instant rebate on these speakers and free shipping on Alpine products while you can!

I am running the speakers off my Alpine CDA-9856 head unit. This is such a good match considering the clean internal amp and signal processing capabilities of the 9856 (and others). I highly recommend pairing these speakers with an Alpine head unit. Set the BBE setting to 3, play with the frequency shaping, bass, and treble levels for 10 minutes based on the acoustics of your particular vehicle, and it will sound like you are running component speakers and an amp. Great stuff!

According to the website, these speakers were NOT supposed to fit in my 2000 Subaru Legacy GT. As such, they didn't show up on my car-specific speaker selection page. But I figured these speakers were such a good deal that it would be worth potentially some cutting, drilling, and additional adapters. Lo and behold, these speakers were direct replacements for my factory speakers without ANY modification whatsoever. Alpine supplies a nice factory adapter plate with these speakers and using that they fit perfectly. These speakers fit perfectly without modification.

Purchased 2 pairs of these for 100 bucks. Impressed by the speaker. Overall good lows, mids, and highs. Alpine provided some speaker brackets for my 02 Dakota, which fit, but needed some modification. Crutchfield did a great job with shipping, and props to my Crutchfield advisor who helped me pick out these speakers. Overall though, they are an above average speaker. I am only running them off 22 RMS, so that might be part of the reason why they may not sound as good as they could, but I would recommend, and would certainly purchase Alpine speakers again.

I set myself a $100 limit when it came to upgrading the front speakers in my stereo upgrade and these seemed to be perfect. I couldn't keep myself from buying a pair of speakers that gets a constant 5/5 review, not to mention that they are one of Alpine's best 6"1/2 speakers. I was definitely not let down! The mids and highs are swweeet in these speakers. They even provide decent bass for just a pair of 6"1/2's. The only problem I had was fitting these with the provided speaker bracket, since the holes didn't line up, I was forced to drill my own. However that has more to do with my truck than the speakers. All in all I would absolutely recommend these to anyone looking for a well-priced, great-quality set of speakers.

I bought two pair of these type S's (from Crutchfield) along with a matching alpine deck for my Accord about 4-5 years ago, and couldn't be happier. The sound quality is great at loud volume and with any music type. I live in a region of very diverse climates including extreme heat and cold, but the speakers have held up surprisingly well. In fact, I have recently bought a new vehicle and have decided to just swap the same type S's into my Jeep rather than buy new ones. With the extra money I will save doing this and the room in my Grand Cherokee, I am finally going to complete the system with one type R-12.

The best coaxials I found

Written by: Mr. Bill from Skagit Valley, WA on October 21, 2007

Wow, I am glad I waited to submit a review for these until I got my amp installed... Okay, so I've had these for about a month. Immediately, with only the head unit, these were an enormous improvement over my Sony X-plods that I removed. I backed them with Dynamat to get the most out of them. But at the same time, I purchaged a Rockford Fosgate P400-4 amp that matched the rms. After one month of running on the head unit (which is only about 16 or 18 watts rms) I just had the amp installed today. WOW!!! They are now runnig at their full 50 watts rms. My ears hurt!!! These are the best speakers I have found in this price range. And believe me, I shopped around A LOT. I played all kinds of music from them today on my 1 and 1/2 hour drive home from the amp install; Breaking Benjamin, Tricky, Tool, Sublime, Filter, even Buddy Guy. These hold up well with heavy rock when they are being flooded with lows, mids and highs at the same time. And for the first time I could listen to Tricky loud and still hear it clearly. I am totally amazed...

Written by: Kealii from Maui, Hawaii on October 13, 2007

Installed two sets in a 2007 CR-V. Crutchfield lists these as not fitting. Technically, that's true - they are not drop in replacements. I ended up ripping the cone out of the factory speaker, using a dremmel to cut out the plastic basket and then screwing the Alpine's into the stock speaker frame and then remounting it in the door. For the rear doors, I had to trim the door panel a little bit because the tweeter was hitting the panel. In the end, it took a little bit longer than a simple drop in install, but it wasn't too bad. As far as the sound of the speakers, they are pretty good. I was surprised at how much bass they produce. The tweeters are on the non-harsh side of the scale. I would actually like a little bit more sharpness in the tweeter, but I am not unhappy with the sound. I recommend these speakers.

I was looking to replace my factory speakers to go along with my new eclipse head unit for better sound quality. I was interested in components but crutchfield tech asst told me not a good idea if not using an amp. I told them that i wanted to stay away from amps if possible. They told me the only 6.5s that would fit my rear doors was blaupunkt. I had read some reviews about these alpines an decided to go with it an see what mods i needed to do to install. Im glad i chose these speakers they rock. No amps installed and these suckers shake my whole truck when turned up. The amount of bass these things put out blew me away and the mids and highs are awsome as well. I got the speakers installed with the speaker adaptors that crutchfield sent me with them and did not have to cut up my rear door panels. Its amazing what the human mind can accomplish with a little thinking. I just put these in to replace my stock speakers in the door of my 99 GMC Sierra and they sound GREAT! They really do. Solid bass production, for rock and classic rock that is. I don't listen to hip hop or rap. My truck came with a tweeter and a midrange/bass speaker in each door. So now I have two tweeters and the highs really sizzle. I had the treble turned all the way up with my old setup. Now, I have to turn it down a little. Really easy to install following Crutchfields installation sheet. They can crank really well. My stock speakers were pretty muddy sounding. But these really produce the nice sounds, nice separation, on music from classical to 80s to classic rock. Really pleased with these. Just as I had them installed, they played The Police and Don't Stand So Close to Me on the radio and it sounded fantastic.

I had picked out 3 speakers and the Tech that I talked to said this would be the best choice for my Neon front door speakers. I had just had my car worked on, and the shop had left the door panels off for me. Altogether, with the instructions in the box, each door only took 5 minutes to hook up and get back together. The speakers sound really great, have a excellent full range, and I agree with the Tech, were the best choice to fill my small car. Will now switch the rear OEM speakers to a matching set of Alpine 6"x9" in the near future.

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakers in the front doors of my 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500HD Dually Pickup because I didn't like the "buzz" my original equipment (OE) speakers produced with moderate bass levels. The Crutchfield install kit and extremely accurate instructions made the job a breeze; the only real work was drilling the holes to mount the speakers. I'm using the OE CD stereo that came in my truck. Even so, these speakers sound so much better than my stock units. Lows are much better, and the highs seem crisper than the stock tweeters. It may be just psychological, but these speakers seem to sound better as time goes on....the bass seems to have tightened up over the past month or two. I'd recommend these speakers for anybody trying to improve the sound of their stock stereo on a budget.

Great high end sound

these speakers are great, high quality, high powered, however don't expect much in the bass department below 80Hz. Because they are only 6.5 inch speakers they will rattle in most front doors so make sure you dyna-matte the doors or have at least an 8 or 10 inch sub to add the right amount of bass and a CD deck with a high pass filter function... like the pioneers, to filter out anything below 80 or 100 Hz in the speakers.

other than that, these are top of the line speakers for a sub $100 price and get LOUD.

Matching these speakers to an Alpine HU is the way to go.

Many thanks to Crutchfield for knowing their business and especially to their very helpful support staff.

I will easily recommend the company to anyone looking to upgrade their car audio.

These speakers will not dissapoint! Period.

Installing them in the rear deck (if you are lucky) with Crutchfield's plans were on point.

And I agree with most reviewers here, it is a good value for the quality of these Alpine speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Package came in 2 days with everything needed to get started. Directions from cruthfield were very helpful and easy to understand. Install took me less then 1 hour for all 4 speakers. In my opinion I think the speakers are well worth the money. The sound is great even on my stock infinity receiver. Sound is crisp and clear and couldnt ask for anything more. Very satisfied with these Alpine speakers. Good Bang for the Buck.

Sound Great!!

I got a pair of these for the front of my 95 Ford Escort wagon along with a new panasonic head unit. The sound is amazing, especially the lows and highs. Installation was a breeze and I'm very satisfied with their performance. Sound great loud (no distortion) or soft. I have a pair of Alpine 5x7s in the back that compliment the front ones very nicely, though I must admit the front sound better from what I can tell.

I just ordered these speakers a few days ago and I just installed them today in my 2004 Silerado. The installation was easy and the after effects were outstanding. These speakers are great! Great high mids and lows, a great all around speaker. For those of you looking for a good speaker here it is. The way I see money is just an object.

These speakers just seamed to blow away the competition as i listened to them.
They are a little to big for the front of my 1996 ford escort. The windows wont even role down all the way anymore. But hey, what the heck when you got the quality of sound that these speakers produce.
They make my factory speakers sound like strait trash with a little ice cream on top.

I purchased 2 pairs of these speakers to replace my stock speakers in my new 06 CRV. I chose the Alpines to match up with the Alpine head unit I purchased earlier from Crutchfield.

Like the other person said, there is an 100% improvement. Features

Aluminum-coated Polypropylene Woofer Cones: Each speaker features an aluminum-coated polypropylene woofer. Aluminum adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability.

Air-injected Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use air-injected rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1" silk dome tweeter for smooth high frequencies. The tweeters are adjustable and will pivot approximately 15° to optimize imaging.

Mounting Rings: Without any adapter, the speakers fit a standard 6-3/4" opening. The supplied adapter rings allow the speakers to be installed in a standard 6-1/2" opening, a 4-hole Ford 6-1/2" opening, or an oversized GM/Chrysler 6-3/4" opening. The adapter rings have tabs that must be broken off based on the application.
