Our take on the Alpine SPS-17C2

by Ken Nail
Alpine

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Alpine's Type-S speakers combine outstanding materials and construction with an attractive price. Their efficient design provides powerful sound even when system power is low — yet beefy internal parts ensure they can handle it when you crank the volume.

But powerful output doesn't count for much if you don't like what you're hearing. The SPS-17C2 6-1/2" speakers are bound to please your ears — pivoting silk dome tweeters direct clear highs to your ears without a hint of harshness. The aluminum-coated woofer cones move freely in the air-injected rubber surrounds for full, strong, and accurate bass response.

Features

Aluminum-coated Polypropylene Woofer Cones: Each speaker features an aluminum-coated polypropylene woofer. Aluminum adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability.

Air-injected Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use air-injected rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1" silk dome tweeter for smooth high frequencies. The tweeters are adjustable and will pivot approximately 15° to optimize imaging.

Mounting Rings: Without any adapter, the speakers fit a standard 6-3/4" opening. The supplied adapter rings allow the speakers to be installed in a standard 6-1/2" opening, a 4-hole Ford 6-1/2" opening, or an oversized GM/Chrysler 6-3/4" opening. The adapter rings have tabs that must be broken off based on the application.

full Range

Written By Glenn, Fairport, NY on Wednesday, April 01, 2009

Good low end on these speakers. Middle tweeter pivots. Materials used
should withstand hot temps and sun light. The cones move allot due to
bass excursion when pushing them. Make sure you don't use other shallow
speaker grills.

These speakers rock. They cary a full range of sound. they don't go way down deep but that is what a sub is for. I adjusted my amp to the high pass to keep the lows out of them and they go load and no distortion. great buy for the money.

Great sound

Written By James, West TN on Tuesday, February 17, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ever so sad to see that these are discotinued, these speakers sound great in the 04 Honda Accord that I installed them in. I would not however say that these speakers are a "direct" fit replacement. It did take a little fabricating as the holes in the doors, are somewhat smaller, for making the speaker fit flush. However the speaker mounting adaptors that came with these, help out this situation alot. Still was a little of work to get them mounted to where they will fit the door panel area for the speakers, but once they were in...OHHH what a fantastic sound they brought out, far better then the factory originals. Was hoping to get some more for others!

Fantastic!

Written By David, Bellevue, WA on Monday, February 02, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was planning on getting a subwoofer (Alpine Type-R 12") for my car, but knew that I needed to upgrade my speakers to make sure that the mids and highs would still come through. I installed them about a month ago, and these speakers have great clarity and really brings the music to life! You will notice a huge difference in sounds quality, especially if upgrading from basic, stock speakers. Be aware that because this speaker is designed to reproduce mids and highs, you will probably get less bass response from them. This is normal. If you need/want bass, get a subwoofer -- don't try to pump it through these speakers.

All-in-all: Great quality at a great price! Also, Crutchfield includes basically everything (except tools) to make sure you've got what you need for installation -- wiring kits, adaptor plates (if necessary), and directions (real men don't need 'em!).

These are great speakers for the money. If you don't need hip-hop level bass and like to listen to jazz, R&B, folk and oldies these will be a perfect physical and audio fit for the Jeep Grand Cherokee 1994. The included kit and instructions made installation a breeze.

Great Product, Great Price. The difference between the factory stock speakers and the Alpines was NOTICEABLE! I have always been an Alpine fan, and Crutchfield offered a great price on these discontinued speakers. With the economic times being what they are, the cost/value on this product is way up there. Thanks Crutchfield!

These speakers put out decent sound with the right source. I give the speakers 4 stars but the stock head unit 1 star. These speakers are wasted using the factory HU. The speakers do a good job of letting me know which tracks, either on a CD or via my iPod, are junk.

Clean, distortion free sound

Written By William, Austin, Texas on Saturday, January 17, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these because they would fit my 2001 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab, they were recommended by Crutchfield as an easy install and because the lousey (stock) paper front speakers were split and ratteling. ... and further offered from the Crutchfield "Scratch and Dent" department for another ten bucks off. BTW, there was not a single scratch orf dent or anything mark at all on them!!

For door speakers, install was a snap. While the rear door speakers still work OK, I'm thinking about replacing them with Alpines too. In addition to the door speakers, I had already added a small (8") Audiobahn sub (w/ Kicker amp). The sub is enclosed in a small carpeted box that sits on the floor behind the drivers seat. For me, age 61, this system meets my needs perfectly and Eric Clapton, Jimmy Buffett and The Mavericks sound awesome!!

Great Speakers

Written By Chris, Cocoa, Florida on Sunday, January 04, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 2 pair of these speakers to replace the horrible stock speakers in my 06 Honda CRV. I had to enlarge the mounting location for the speakers and purchased the baffles to help with the sound. I ended up having to use spacers to bump the speaker and baffles out about 1/2" so they wouldn't interfere with the power window. Now, i also added two tweeters (real ones) and did some re-wiring so i could use my own 4-channel amplifier. I have the two tweeters and the two rear-door speakers running off the amp and the front-door speakers running directly from the deck (Kenwood Excelon KDC-X792). The end result is a great sounding system. Now, the bass isn't trunk-rattling, but it does sound nice. I originally wanted to try the baffles without cutting a port in them and you could tell the sound wasn't at 100%, so after about a week i took them out and cut port-holes in them and it definitely made a difference. They are still new and still sound a little tight, so i'm sure after a few more weeks, they will loosen up and sound even better.

I bought these to replace the front doors on my 07 tundra. these speakers rock. for all of those expecting to get any "low" bass on 6.5s it aint gonna happen no matter what brand or how expensive. add a sub if you want BASS. these speakers do deliver excellent mid bass and excellent mids/highs however and when coupled with an amp you will definitely be pleased. I'm runnin it with 50rms and they kick. I would definitely buy these and forget about spending more money for anything else. Crutchfield as always great service.

I replaced my VW stock speakers with these Alpines, and the difference in sound is night and day. Clear sounding music with great bass sound. I'm completely satisfied with these speakers, and for the price...you can't go wrong!
After installing these, and hearing how great the sound is, I went ahead and replaced my Pioneer DEH-470MP head unit with an Alpine CDA-9884 and the sound was even better!
I can't wait to hook up the amp to these speakers and a Sub in the trunk.
Great Speakers!

I installed these speakers into my 2000 Nissan Frontier to replace the so-called premium speakers I ordered when I got the car. These Alpine's
installed like a breeze ( thanks to Crutchfield's tech sheet) without any modifications. The bass and mid-range is decent. A tremendous improvement over the factory set.

I bought these speakers for my jeep liberty and they at first sounded terrible! i figured out though that it was a pair of the speakers that were broke idk so i called crutchfield and they sent me two new ones for free and they work fine. If you dont have an aftermarket stereo i would say not to buy them because i dont think you will have enough power to make them sound good. Not much bass unless i turn my bass boost on +6 but thats not that smart. These are great speakers for people just wanting a little upgrade, GREAT for the Price!!!

At this price, its a steal, but heads up to Pilot owners

Written By William, Ashburn, VA on Friday, November 21, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these last weekend in my fiances 2004 Honda Pilot. These blow away the factory alpines. Mids and Highs are crisp and clean at any volume. The bass is not going to shake your rear view but it is refreshingly tight with no distortion. At high volumes or bass levels, they do vibrate the doors with most hip hop. For 6.5 you shouldnt be dissapointed. Replacing the factory sub this weekend anyway. Great deal for the price. She loves them and couldnt be happier with the new sound. "Factory speakers suck, huh? These sound better than the bose in our lexus" to quote her. Shes right and I think I have to upgrade that system. Cant have her car sounding better than mine.

I generally never write reviews but wanted to post this one to give Honda Pilot owners a heads up. Installation is a breeze in the front doors. Just a
few little cuts in the factory baffles to make a nice fit, anyone could do it. The rears doors are a different story. The baffle is slighter smaller, forcing
you to modify it like crazy. What a pain! If you are handy... then the price more than jusitfys the headache. However if you are taking on an install
for the first time, and arent a rig master, this may be more than you want to deal with. Consider some of the shallower 6.5s on crutchfield for the rear doors. They will install with the same ease at the front doors.

Buy these with confidence!

I have had Alpine products in the past with great results, and this is no exception. I installed 4 of these in about 2 hours, and even keeping the factory head unit, the difference was profound. Music was no longer sounds, but real music, and has that awsome Alpine clarity. Don't think twice, these speakers will not let you down. If I do any more upgrades in this vehicle or any other, I will always go with Alpine.

Good Bass for the money

Written By Roy, GA on Friday, November 07, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After replacing stock speakers in the rear deck with these speakers, I decided to replace the doors as well. For the money, they are excellent speakers that provide great highs, and good bass. For those complaining of bass, and if you feel these speakers don't provide enough bass, a separate sub is needed. I've always used Pioneer, Polk, and Kenwood speakers in the past. I must admit for the money, these are excellent. And Crutchfield's free stuff makes the install a delight.

These are great sounding speakers. They replaced two blown stock speakers in the front doors. 2002 Chevy Silverado. Alpine deck, stock speakers in the rear ext cab doors, and 10" powered sub. I purchased the sub after I re-did the speakers and deck knowing I would want to do this. I like well rounded stereos, I listen to almost all types of music and these do a good job.
You are not paying 500 bucks for these so why would you expect that kind of performance? For mids and highs they are good. FOr what I payed they are really good sounding. With the sub they sound perfect.

Have 4 of these on a Alpine MRP-F250. Sounds heavenly compared to my old system(which was one 6.5 inch speaker on an am/fm radio from the seventies). I don't see the point in buying really expensive speakers when you can buy cheaper speakers that sound this good.

Good sound, not much bass

Written By Rodney, Upper Marlboro on Monday, October 27, 2008

I installed these speakers in my niece's 2000 Nissan Sentra. I was disappointed at how little bass output there was. It was considerably less than the factory speakers, which had torn speaker cones. The midrange and highs on the Alpine's were very good. I will probably add a powered subwoofer at some point but I was hoping to avoid doing that.

Perfect for my installation!

Written By Will, Vacaville, CA on Saturday, October 25, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These Alpines are great! I installed these as a replacement for the stocks in my Tundra rears. I am running the stock head and amp, so I was looking for a good, high sensitivity speaker, that had decent bass response. This hit it right on the head.

These sound a lot better than what I had. In fact, these make me notice that I have rear speakers now. Before, you didn't even know that there was speakers in the back. I got them for better bass reproduction, but I am most impressed with the mids and highs.

Installation was a breeze. It all fit perfectly, and I was done in under one hour. And that included getting a beer midway through.

Overall, I am quite happy, and would really consider these for any application.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had these installed in my 2002 Saab 9-3 hatcback paired with an alpine cda-9886 I purchased at the same time I did the pair for my front door speakers that had no speakers at the time. My Saab came with 4 speakers 2 in the dash and 2 in the side panel with 2 openings in the front doors but "No speakers" I did some research and found out that the 2 extra speakers in the front doors and extra amp was part of a premium package that was not acquired from the first owner is my guess. Well now that the background of the purchase is explained let me tell you that I am very happy with my purchase not just with the speakers but the customer service. I recieved an email with concern on compatibility so I called explained my situation and knowledge about my front door speakers non existence and the representative suggest I get wiring due to the very likely chance there would be none of it and no wire harness. The chances came to play finding out that there was no wiring or wire harness and the extra 8 dollars came to be worth it. I have to say I am already planning out the next set of speakers, subwoofers, amps etc. to complete my system all from crutchfield :D

P.S. take into acount free shipping and fast processing. I ordered sunday and got everything tuesday.

Good Buy solid performance

Written By Curtis, College Station, TX on Sunday, October 19, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Im running these speakers in the rear doors of my 2001 jeep cherokee, fully custom install, its not a factory location (to those who may be interested this involved only drilling mounting holes, running the wires and making a few slits in the door panel to let the sand through). Im feeding them 55 watts RMS each. They sound great, nice balanced response, not to heavy on the treble mid or bass, they lack true bottom end, but so do anything smaller than 6x8's except in competition series. They really dont need the power, they run well off of a head unit. They balance well with my otherwise al-polk setup, the soundstage is similar. In short, good sound and they stand up to my EXTREME volume abuse, slight overpowering and poor location.

Nothing Exciting

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I upgraded front door stock speakers on 2005 Toyota Camry with 6.5" Alpine SPS-17C2 and did not feel much improvement in sound quality. Sound from higher range was more clear, but there was no difference in bass. When comparing these to stock rear speakers (used Fade feature on car stereo to switch sound from front to back), I could not hear much bass at all from Alpine speakers. Tested with HD Radio unit Dual XHD6425.

Then I switched from Alpine SPS-17C2 to 6x9 Blaupunkt GTx693 and vola! Bass and all sounds ranges came alive and now with Blaupunkt I can enjoy HD radio and MP3.

Huge upgrade

Written By Michael, Schenectalbatroyoga, NY on Sunday, September 28, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One of the factory installed paper speakers died in my Dakota, so it was a great opportunity to replace the poor stock speakers with something good. Wow, what an amazing upgrade these were over the factory speaker. The sound clarity, the depth, and the bass are excellent. I would love to have gone for a higher quality speaker, but at the costs per set, I could not pass up these Alpines.

I had never installed a speaker before, but the Crutchfield instructions were perfect, step-by-step, in showing me exactly how to remove the door panel and old speakers and to install the new ones. Including the time spent reading the instructions and finding the screw that I dropped, the total install time was 75 minutes.

P.S. Don't forget to pivot the tweeters according to the speaker location BEFORE you close the door panels. That added an additional 30 minutes, when I had to reopen the door to adjust the tweeters.

These speakers sound amazing. I first tested them using an aftermarket Pioneer head unit, and they work well with it. I am now driving them using a 100x2 amp, and they sound even better when you can turn them up. It seems like playing them at lower volumes doesn't quite produce their full sound.

They do have very good bass for 6.5" speakers. My amp has a selectable high pass filter (flat, 125 Hz, 60 Hz), and all three sound different. So the speakers do have some response down very low (spec curve shows a flat response down to around 100 Hz). I am sure they would be enhanced by a subwoofer that plays only below 100 Hz, but a sub is far from necessary for just enjoying music.

Summary: These are great speakers for the money!

Great sounding speakers! Awsome value!

Written By jcool1985, Atlanta ga on Friday, September 19, 2008

These speakers are great with my new alpine amp mrp-f250 and new
clarion headunit. They sound great at low and high volumes and have great
bass for 6 1/2's and the highs aren't harsh thanks to the silk tweeters.
They are very efficent with power and play loud without distoration. A great
value for the price. They sound as good as speakers that cost $100+. They
fit my 2001 jeep grand cherokee as long as you use the plastic mounting
ring and use the 3 tab mounts on it to mount the speakers in the rear
doors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are amazing, and the Crutchfield price cannot be beat. I replaced the stock speakers in my '98 Nissan Altima. I have an Alpine CDA-7894 to run them, and while that is a pretty powerful head unit, I feel confident in saying that these speakers will sound great on other systems as well. They are capable of very loud volume while still retaining sound quality, and reproduce sound clearly. Bass response is also AWESOME for the price range, and it is very accurate as well. These speakers make me want to go out and sit in my car just to play with the stereo.

Clean sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installation was very easy in the rear deck of my '95 Honda Civic using the provided adapter rings. Also bought the baffles which do make a difference in the sound. The sound itself is very clean with great highs and mids. Bass is pretty good and as expected for this type of speaker. Would recommend expecially for the price.

I installed these speakers because I was told they were efficient enough for my Honda CRV factory radio to power them When I installed them, the
sound was bass-less and very low volume. I suspected that would happen but nobody at Crutchfield would own up to it. I am installing a JL Audio cleansweep and a very good, clean amp. We will see. I will re-review when that is done. The 2 stars was because they fit.

You just cant beat Alpine. I bought 2 sets to replace all the speakers in my
03 Saturn Ion and I was surprised at the clear, crispness and the bumping
bass these little speakers can deliver. they are not the best of the best ,
but for the price, the performance is great. The installation was very easy
and especially with the detailed instruction provided by Crutchfield. The
clarity was really surprising especially at high volume. I would definately
recommend. Especially at this low price.

Replaced my stock '03 Nissan Maxima (no Bose system) front door speakers. These speakers sound much better than the stock speakers. Great value for the money. Sound is crisp and clear. I would like some deeper bass sounds, but for the money what do you expect. EXCELLENT value for the price. I love listening to these babies.

The installation guide provided by Crutchfield was very thorough and walked me perfectly though every step necessary to complete the installation myself. Perfect for the 1st time speaker installer.

Good Speakers

Written By Jonathan, Tucson, AZ on Thursday, September 11, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm pretty happy with the speakers and the price is excellent. There are two minor issues:
1) The screws it came with only included machine screws for mounting without the covers--the covers clearly line up with the machine screw holes but require a much longer machine screw. It did come with clips and sheet metal screws for the adapter, however.
2) Several people have commented that the highs are a bit much. I've put my trebel in the "negative" to compensate. Not a terrible problem and more easily compensated for than the opposite I suppose.
Overall, for the price, a good deal and I'm much happier than I was without them.

Great speakers. Sound much, much better than the factory speakers in my '92 Honda Accord. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had to modify my rear deck grills and trim the supplied bolts to make room. Honestly, they deserve a 4.75.

Great choice for stock speaker replacements

Written By Andrew, Bremerton, WA on Monday, August 25, 2008

I got these as part of a sound upgrade "project" for my 07 Civic EX sedan, and the difference between these speakers and the stock ones was incredible. The sound from these coaxes are much better than the separates that came with the system and much more than I was expecting. These weigh a lot more and the magnet diameter is about 3 times as large as the stock woofer. The materials used for these are much better as well.

As far as installation, some drilling was required to mount them, but it was pretty simple.

These are a great deal and they shouldn't be passed up if you're looking for a simple upgrade to your sound.

Clear sound and fits better than you think

Written By Keith, Hilliard, OH on Monday, August 25, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in an 07 Accord Sedan front door with adapters sent by Crutchfiled. Drilled three holes for each adapter and the speakers went on those. No modification of the door panel required at all. The mounting depth was 2 1/4 (pretty deep) and there was plenty of clearance on the door panel and the window behind the magnet. Completed both in an hour.

Directions, adapters and harnesses from Crutchfield good, as always.

4 stars because less bass than I would expect from a 6 1/2 this hefty but very clear mids/highs and how much complaining can you do for this price!

Written By Jason, Joplin, MO on Sunday, August 17, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

these speakers are extremly high in sound quality. they wont give you the lows like some higher end 6x9s but they will give you highs in impressive detail. i was going to put these in the rear deck of my 93 nissan sentra, but i decided that the factory door speakers were terrible and needed to go. so i put them in there (this car had FACTORY clarion speakers!) but they were all blown, so now i replaced them, and with a 800 watt amp powering a bandpass box in the trunk, and infinitys in the rear deck, i finally have the sound that so many people look for. i listen to everything from death metal to easy listening, no trouble anywhere. dont buy these for the bass. buy them for improved highs.

With these speakers you won't have to apologize for no bass. I tried several sets of speakers under $100, but these are the only ones that gave good sound in the high and low range. The chart says they won't fit because of the grills or tweeter, but I had no problem at all. Great speakers, great price.

These are an excellent upgrade speaker for the price. I have 4 of them in my 2003 chevrolet trailblazer. Install was a breeze and they fit great. they handle low bass great, and if you set them up with a little bass package ( i run a 10" tube) they really perform well. The highs are nice and crisp and the mids hit just right. Dont get me wrong, these are no a substitution for a component set. But for a budget minded indivudal, looking to use stock mounting locations you cant go wrong.

I had them installed at a audio shop. So I dont know what else to say about the speaker. Does any one have the same problem or have any solution to make them sound better than my stock.

fits honda del-sol

Written By Michael, oklahoma on Wednesday, August 06, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

the advisor said these speakers would NOT fit my 1995 honda del-sol, however I ordered them anyways because it was such a great deal. upon first inspection, they do not fit the car, BUT Alpine includes a kind of "one-fits-all" harness. the trick for the del-sol is you have to break off the outer tabs, then it fits perfectly inside the stock speaker housing. you line up the screw holes, use the old screws, and screw the Alpine speakers into the harness (it comes with screws). perfect fit. in fact the harness is necessary since the depth of the speakers is too deep without it and the magnet would stick to the back of the car.
as for sound -- well this is my first day with them. sound is obviously way better than stock speakers, but the bass seems a little lower than my (cheaper) kenwoods. my experience with them is limited so far so take that for what it's worth.. I just wanted to let other honda owners know that they fit with the included Alpine harness.

Real nice sound with these speakers, even at high volume. They won't hear your bass booming 10 blocks away, but there is plenty enough for me! Two of my speakers were shorted out, and the dealer was going to charge me $200 PER SPEAKER to fix... for less than that I got all 4 speakers PLUS a HD Radio JVC head unit from Crutchfield!!!! I ordered everything yesterday online, and in less than 24 hrs had everything shipped to me and installed in my truck. You can't beat that!

Great sounding speakers at a very nice price!

Written By jussa79, SLC, UT on Tuesday, August 05, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in the front doors of an '02 Mitsubishi Galant. The sound over stock is incredible. The highs are much more crisp and although the lows aren't overwhelming, they are a far cry better than OEM speakers. For the price you can't go wrong. The quality of materials and workmanship of these speakers is good, and as always installation was made easier by the hard working folks at Crutchfield.

The only thing I really didn't like about the speakers is the adapter ring. My factory speakers are 6 3/4" while the Alpine's are 6 1/2" but have a plastic ring that fills that gap. Because the ring isn't very symmetrical, I couldn't line up all my holes and so one side was not bolted down as tight and would flap around. I couldn't drill another hole on that side because there is not enough door material to grab for a good fit. I ended up using an adhesive on the back of the ring and screwing down the holes that did line up. A minor inconvenience, and only something that applies to this particular year, make, and model of vehicle. A car that uses an actual 6 1/2" speaker will more likely be a true drop in fit.

I just installed 4 (four) of these speakers in my 03 VW Golf GLS 4-door with out Monsoon stereo and must say these speakers have a very nice sound to them. The bass response is crisp also. I was a little worried as I installed them in the back doors first at the sound quality. At first it wasn't as good as the stockers I had in there, but once I got all 4 installed and tried them out the sound was there. I know you're supposed to break these in or something but I can tell you now these speakers "get it" right now ! Just a word of advise-use the speaker rings that come with them to attach the speakers to the brackets-that's not in the instructions. Other than that, get these speakers !!

Awsome Speakers for 2002 Silverado PU

Written By Mike, Pleasant Grove, Utah on Saturday, July 26, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers were used in my first ever stereo installation project. The
speakers are awsome. They just blow away the factory speakers. They
sounded so good, I decided to also replace the HU with a Pioneer DEH-
P7000BT so that I could play MP3 files and HD radio. The new HU really
made a great improvement in the sound of these speakers. I only had a
couple of installation questions that the service folks at Crutchfield were
able to immediately answer. Installation went well for a first-timer.
Instructions were complete and clear. The success of this project has led
me to decide to replace the speakers and probably the HU in my wife's
Civic. If you have never done an install before, don't shy away from the
task. You can do it easily with the supplied instructions and kits provided
by Crutchfield.

Well, I spent a total of 20 minutes putting in both speakers. The sound quality is phenomenal. No, they don't sound like 10" subs, but I am not disappointed in them. For such a small speaker, they are very nice. I am pleasantly impressed. I would buy them for the rear deck, but the tweeters stick up too high, and would hit the cover. Not worth the modifications, although very feasible to be done.
Crutchfield's custom wiring harness was fabulous. Thanks!

Excellent buy for the money. You can always count on Alpine for quality equipment and I doubt theres another speaker out there under $100 that will compare with these. I replaced the rear factory speakers in my 05 Frontier (which at this point sounded like wax paper flapping in the wind) with these and the mids and highs are much clearer. However, they run at 4 ohms while the old factory ones were 2ohms, so the bass response is unimpressive. I'm waiting to replace the front ones as well as the factory sterio at which point I'm sure I will have to change this rating to 5 stars.

The site says the

fit with only a
slight problem. You
just have to spin
the speakers a
quarter inch to
avoid a metal bar
that will get in the

As for sound

speakers blow my
factory speakers

actually feel the
bass now! My music
sounds amazing and I

Silverado stock speaker replacement

Great deal! Installation took about an hour and a half. An hour for the 1st door and only 30 min for the second. Had to drill 4 holes. Used the old gasket from the stock speakers to prevent metal to metal contact between the speaker and door. Was able to keep the stock tweaters in place and connected. Speakers sound MUCH better that the old stock speakers. Makes me want to change out the rear speakers now.
Crutchfield provided good instructions and all hardware needed to install.
Thanks.

I just installed these in a 2001 Nissan Altima, replacing OEM. Stephen gave
me very good advice about replacing the rear speakers as well. The
tweeters on these protrude a bit higher than most, so could not do front

some mods to the rear deck to make them fit. The wire harnesses were
perfect and the installation guides were spot on. At first, I was concerned
about the amount of disassembling needed for both doors and the rear
deck, but there were no problems whatsoever. The complaint about lack of
bass is unfounded, unless you expect a 6.5" speaker to sound like a 10"
sub. There is adequate bass for a passenger vehicle, and the overall
sound is clear and vibrant. Using the OEM CD/AM/FM radio, the cabin is
filled with amazing sound. Is there a booming, deep thump of bass? No,
but the speakers are very capable of playing rap, r&b, gospel, jazz, and
rock. If you want booming lows, invest in a subwoofer/amp configuration.
If you are looking to breathe new life into your original system, these are a
great buy!!!

Nice sound - Saturn SC2

Written By Wanda Joy, Las Vegas on Saturday, June 14, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I like a brilliant
sound, these
speakers fit my
preferences well.
Coupled with the
factory receiver and
the original rear
speakers I get all
the bass I want. I
don't want a
distorted, boomy
sound, ergo levels
are less than roof
rattling. I gave
these speakers a
five star based on
what I had to
compare them to, and
since those were
factory single
driver units my
rating may be
considered rather
uninformed.

The master sheet
made installation
possible, I wouldn't
have known about the
lock clips and
hidden screw without
the installation
instructions. The
package Crutchfield
puts together is
worth its weight in
gold.

Alpine SPS-17C2

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in my 08 GMC Sierra. These reason i gave these speakers 4 stars was because the bass. The bass is good but not too responsive. I couldn't ask for better mids and highs. I have them paired with my factory head unit, which pushes them just fine for me. If the factory head unit makes the bass sound muffled when turned too loud, an aftermarket head unit would make them sound even more muffled. Overall I am very pleased with these speakers. They do sound much better than the factory speakers. Price was excellent and mounting supplies provided by crutchfield were great.

Great Value

These Alpine speakers are a bargain. They are WAY better than the stock
front speakers on my 2000 Chevy Silverado extended cab pickup truck.
While I'm sure therer are better speakers on the market, I think you would
be hard to find some that deliver this performance for the price.

These speakers are great. I immediately noticed the difference that they made to the sound. I own a small car and replacing the stock speakers with these made all the difference.

Not what I had hoped for

Written By perkins, Nome, Alaska on Monday, May 26, 2008
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered these
speakers based on
the reviews here. I
was disappointed.
These replaced the
stock OEM units in
the front doors of
my 2000 Chevy
Silverado. Paired
with the Kenwood CD
player in my dash,
which has been in
use for 3 years with
the stock speakers,
these Alpines
produce much poorer
bass than the cheap
OEM units, which
does not speak to
highly of a touted
name such as
Alpine. I have made
every adjustment I
can to the Kenwood
to no avail....the
bass basically
bites.

I WOULD NOT
recommend these if
you like bass. It
ain't there.

Wow

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

wow, these speakers are amazing. right now i only put two in the front, and still have the stock speakers in the back... these speakers play the best highs i have ever heard, though they might play them too loud they are perfect for guitar solos....

the bass is also good, could be better but it does pound pretty good. i can't even hear the speakers in the back with these two in the front. i can't wait until my next paycheck so i can buy myself a second pair for the back..

i highly recomend these speakers to anyone.

Best

Written By Justin, Warminster, PA on Sunday, May 18, 2008

These speakers are so much better, they give great bass and are oh so easy to install with the master sheet. They fit great in my 2000 Nissan Altima. They fit fine in the rear deck, and front door; no need to use the supplied ring ring adapters. They sound great when paired with my Pioneer DEH-P3900MP head unit. I installed them myself, it took me about an hour and a half to get everything in and done. These speakers are truly the best for the money! Highly recommended!

Very good sound quality over my stock speakers. Easy to install and great
to listen to. All the sound is clear and crisp. Bass is very clean with these
speakers as well.
