seems the wrong recommendation
2004 Pontiac Grand Am
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
rated middle of the road....can't really say if bad or good. bought due to name and recommendation for oem replacement. but, they are a rated 4 ohm speaker with a thirst for 45 watts. speakers i took out of the car, oem. are marked 2 ohm, think system is 30-35 watts. was told the improved sensitivity would make up the difference. cannot even hear these unless volume up almost all the way. did end up using the mounting plates for a pair of jbl, with higher sensitivity and a supposed 2 ohm rating. to be fair they are listed as 2-4 ohm, don't see how they can be both but did read where buyers have tested and got a 2 ohm reading, maybe they are really a 3. at any rate, i can hear the jbl speakers, and they do what i wanted the alpines to do, bring in the clearer mids. still have to push them to compete with the rear powered 6x9s, but i get double the sound out of them. would of had to drill to mount without the plates from the alpines, but bottom line, the alpines were the wrong recommendation. crutchfield has the jbl, i got them elsewhere. the alpines will probably go up on ebay, for a loss.
Pros: could not tell.
Cons: poor match for gm oem monsoon. wrong ohm rating and higher wattage results in weak output.
