Alpine combines outstanding materials with superior construction to create their Type-S Series speakers. Upgrade your factory speakers with these Alpines, and they'll fill your vehicle with high-fidelity sound at a reasonable cost.

The SPS-600 6-3/4" speakers use strong, lightweight polypropylene-mica woofers to handle the lower frequencies. Air-injected rubber surrounds keep cone movement under tight control, eliminating distortion and enhancing bass. Stamped steel frames provide rugged support for these speakers, and their low profile allows them to fit in more factory locations.

The 1" silk dome tweeters play your high notes smoothly and comfortably with no hint of harshness. You can also swivel the tweeters up to 10 degrees to improve the stereo image at your listening position. These efficient Type-S speakers will sound great with a low-powered factory radio, but they're also made to handle the high power output of an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Note: Alpine describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My application was for a 2000 Dodge Dakota R/T Club Cab. I installed the speakers in the front. The speakers included adapter rings that made the speakers with the truck perfectly. Installation was simple. The speakers do not have as much base as the originals, but sound great. I can't tell any difference between the loudness of them and the originals. The quality of these speakers are much better than the orignial speakers.

Great Speakers and Easy Install 2006 Hummer H3

Henrykjr from Orlando, FL on 10/10/2011

Gotta hand it to Crutchfield they made life so easy on this install. I own a 2006 Hummer H3 in which the stock speakers rotted out. Crutchfield supplied the SPS-600 speakers and all of the installation goodies including a detailed manual of how take the door panels off of my Hummer (I was unable to find any info this elsewhere). All in all price was much cheaper than anywhere plus the service was excellent. Now about the speakers....the are 6 3/4" speakers that are a HUGE upgrade in quality and sound of the 5 1/2"'s that are in the car. The bass was great even with the stock non-monsoon stereo. If you are doing an install on the H3 go ahead go the extra mile and buy some Dynamat for the car. Without this the doors resonate horribly. I lined the inside of the door with a 5 x 9" piece and the speaker adapter got some on the mounting points to prevent rattling. The only extra thing you will need to do is go out and buy a set of 16 #6 screws with washers and lock nuts to properly mount the speakers to the adapters and the stock hardware did not fit. $2.50 in hardware cost. Once I get my Pioneer navi back from repair the system will sound even better even though I'm darn inpressed with the sound that came out of the stock radio. These were a great buy. Thanks again!

they sound great but there is no bass. and they are big, the tweeter hit my factory grills they sound good but not really any bass good highs and upper mids they have a nice mouting ring to adapt to most other screw patterns, but in my dakota i had to put the ring into the factory ring but had to file it down abit or the window hit the magnet. i would buy them again if i had room for a sub .

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The included 6.5 to 6.75 brackets don't quite fit unless you use an oversize washer to prevent the factory screw from coming loose. I would recommend using a bit of thread locking compound on the screws so there is no need to worry about them coming loose. Loctite Blue would be good. Rear speaker on drivers side was blown, not sure if the stereo/amp has problems as the balance/fade does not seem to work properly. Probably not the speakers.

The mega bass distortion with the factory Toyota speakers is history! These Alpines are pure music, not noise. The factory radio even sounds great at medium sound level! For the price, why did I wait? Adapter cables all fit like a glove, but I did have to drill new holes in the sheet metal for a perfect and stable fit. Even used the older factory bolts and speed nuts. Didn't have to buy anything extra.

Just installed these in my 2006 Yukon SLT with the Bose system. I replaced the two front speakers since the drivers front sounded like it was blown. Although the magnets on the back said Bose, the factory fronts were nothing special, crappy paper speakers. The Alpines are a wonderful improvement. Much clearer, realistic vocals and highs. The factory speakers sound like a clock radio compared to these. Plus they're inexpensive and don't take much power to drive. The Bose system does have an amp and subwoofer which help, these speakers complement the setup well. Can't wait to replace the rears!

The speakers have a great sound in my '91 Integra. I had difficulty installing with the included bracket. I had to dremel out some of the plastic recess on the car so that the bracket would fit inside the space. Once I figured that out, I was able to finish it up and the factory grills fit properly. WIthout drilling it out, the bracket sits too high and speaker cannot be covered.

Installed 4 of these as replacements for the factory door speakers in a 2007 Silverado (NBS). These were an easy install with the wiring harnesses and adapter brackets that Crutchfield included with the order. (Thanks guys). The sound quality is crisp and clean, plenty of Bass using the stock head unit (Non Bose system). These speakers provide plenty of volume and are crystal clear in the volume range that I normally run them in.

Not bad. a little bit of a pain as the speaker brackets/adapters have to be ground/cut and modified to fit the doors of my 98 dakota.. the oem speakers are 2ohm so these 4ohm speakers do not produce the same quality sound, however they are 1/4 of the price so its all good. This price for two or I could go to the oem speakers for $109 each.. Now that the blown out front door speakers are replaced , time to replace the rears now as one of them blew yesterday.. I think for the price its good enough.

I bought these speakers to replace the fronts in my 01 Camry. The mounting plates they came with made drilling new holes for the speakers a breeze. I also purchased Type-S 6x9s for the rear and the bass response of these 6 3/4" speakers are good, but understandably not as great as the 6x9s. I wish I could use the speaker grills that came with these, they're of beautiful design. Definitely pleased with this purchase, I've wanted Type-Ss for years!

Got these speakers to put in the front door slots of my 95 Honda civic.... turns out i didn't read the specs correctly and they didn't fit so i ended up putting them in the back behind the passenger seats moving my Sony speakers to the front. Having the better speakers in the back makes the sound so much fuller and more balanced.... You wouldn't believe how nice these speakers hit both the lows and highs! I deff recommend these for anyone wanting to hear great sound and great quality at a price that wont bust your balls (or your wallet :P) Get these if you need any kind of speaker replacement and want a rich and full sound, providing great highs and even great lows, these speakers will not upset you in the least!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these to replace the stock Infinity speakers in the rear doors of my Dodge Durango because the stock speakers were blown. Installation was very easy but these speakers have NOWHERE NEAR the bass response or volume output that my stock speakers had. With one old speaker in and one new one in it was amazing how much better the old Infinity speaker sounded compared to the new Alpine. With 2 new Alpine speakers in the rear and still with stock Infinity speakers in the front you can hardly hear the Alpines in the back unless you significantly fade to the rear channel. I'm really quite disappointed.

Chris from MI on 3/15/2011

A decent amount of sibilance at high volumes, even when amped. Cleaned it up a bit with the equalizer but still kind of annoying. I would recommend trying the type- R's if the cost isn't too much of an issue. Still a good set of speakers for the price. I gave it 5 stars about 6 months ago, this is just a follow up.

Great Speakers

CDaalpine from San Diego on 3/5/2011

I have 4 of these speakers in my 2008 Honda Civic SI Coupe. I started off adding these to my Alpine 9886 deck for better after market sound. These speakers delivered just that. My installer installed them without the blue type S covers keeping the original speaker covers of my car to keep my car's stock look. The speakers sounded decent at low to mid volume, but at high volume levels, (which I listen this way often) the speakers gave almost a loud hissing sound. Striving for better sound, I bought the MRP-F300 4 channel Alpine amp to heighten sound quality and "Crankability." Once again these speakers delivered. Now my bass from my sub doesn't drown out my mids and high's. With a little bit of tuning and adjusting, I can crank my stereo full blast with crystal clear sound. I have heard much better speakers than these here, and have heard better 4 channel amps, but for the price I can honestly say I am satisfied with this speaker set up. I didn't go with components mainly because my stock tweeters are in a bad listening spot and a more difficult install Value for price...5. Sound quality 4-4.5. Appearance 5 being that I was able to keep my stock look. Power 4, mainly due to the fact there are speakers out there that can handle much more power such as "the Alpine Type-R's." If you get these speakers, pay the extra money to get an amp...don't be cheap. Enjoy.

I ordered these to replace the factory speakers in my 2004 Silverado. They are being run by a Sony aftermarket stereo without an amplifier and the difference is quite notable. They are able to handle alot more volume without any distortion. Installation was fairly easy, All I had to do was drill three holes to attach the mounting plates. Once I got the door panels off all the doors (I also put Alpine SPS-400's in the rear doors) I found that each wire was a different color for every door! A quick call to Crutchfield technical support was all it took. They correctly identified the postitve and ground wires for each door and the rest was easy. All the connections and hardware I needed was provided. The best of all was that Crutchfield matched the price of a competitor.

I have a 2009 Scion xB and I Installed the Alpine SPS-600's in the rear door and Alpine SPS-660c's in the front door and *EXISTING* side mirror tweeter mounts. Thats right, the existing factory tweeters popped right out and the SPS-600C tweeters snapped right in. The seperation is fantastic. For an economical factory speaker upgrade this is the way to go! One word of caution the pictured Crutchfied "Toyota Speaker Harnesses Speaker adapter plugs" work okay for the rear speakers, SPS-600, but you may need to use something else (I did) for the front speaker/tweeter/inline crossover combo. But it was still a breeze to wire. Cheers!

I've got an 07 GMC Serria Classic. My stock speakers were making buzing noises like they all seem to do at some point. I replaced my front door speakers with these and unplugged the little factory speakers that were also in my front door. I DO NOT have the bose system in my truck. It is the stock radio and speakers. After putting these in I feel like I've lost some of the base that my stock speakers had. I'm half tempted to go to gm parts direct and buy the replacement stock speakers and try putting them back in and maybe getting stock replacement speakers for the little speakers that are in the front door too. These speakers installed fine. But when I listen to mainly hard rock, pop and country it sounds like I don't have the base that I had with the stock speakers.

I bought these to replace the back door speakers on a 09 Toyota Highlander. The speakers sound ok but not much of an improvement over the stock junk factory speakers. They have better highs but virtually no mid bass. However, they are being powered by a Clarion NX 500 so they may sound better with an amp. Side note the adapters that are shipped free with these do not work for this application. The adapters supplied from Alpine are much better but still require drilling.

Cons:

perfect clarity, great in a honda accord

janos from Atlanta, GA on 4/5/2010

I purchased these for the doors of my 2003 Honda Accord Ex Coupe, these speakers will need the Adapter rings to fit the newer Accords, as the cheap stock speakers have a built in bracket... "CF" lists these speakers as "This item does not fit" but it will fit an 03-07 Accord if brackets are used. I had to pre-drill two holes one on top and one on the bottom of the bracket, as this is enough to hold it securely, I'd also recommend using a speaker connector harness for each door, so you will not have to cut your factory wires, you can just plug the harness into the stock wire harness and it will give you a positive and negative wire that plugs directly into these speakers... Installing these Alpines on both doors of an Accord takes about 30 minutes total. This is my first time owning any Alpine speakers, normally I have always purchased Boston or Infinity's Kappa's speakers, but decided to try these as the opening for 03-07 Accord door is just 4 inches wide, I had to get something with a small magnet. These speakers sound amazing listening to Smooth Jazz, Trance, House, Hip Hop, Classical... These speakers offer very crisp, excellent vocals and the sound is superb and at this price they are unbeatable... I'd highly recommend these 6 1/2's to anyone who is looking for great sound and affordable too. Thanks CrutchField!

Alpine = The Best

Corey from Ft. Smith, AR on 3/24/2010

I bought these to replace my stock Honda speakers in my door. The most immediate difference for me was the added bass and volume. I was very suprised by the bass that came from installing these speakers. When you pull these speakers out of the box, you know Alpine built these to handle business. When teamed up with the Alpine 3 way 6x9's you can get an agressive and quite loud audio system. You'll definitely notice the highs with these speakers. I recommend checking them out.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers for the front doors of my 2007 Chevy extended-cab PU based on mostly favorable customer reviews. One of the factory speakers was blown when I bought the truck used. The instructions for door panel removal provided by Crutchfield really helped, although I never did figure out how to disconnect or remove the switch panel for all the electric windows, mirrors, etc. without tearing something up, so I worked around it. The 2nd door went a lot faster than the first door. I was able to use the Alpine grilles as a drilling template and the grilles can be used behind the factory grilles built into the door panel. The wiring adapters provided to connect the factory wiring plug to the new speakers worked perfectly. Like others have said, the speakers seem to sound better after you've played them at fairly decent volume for a while. The bass response is pretty good considering their size. No, these aren't sub-woofers. By the way, you have to read the fine print to find the note in the Alpine instructions that says to be sure to disconnect the existing separate factory tweeters in the doors when using the coaxial Alpines or they claim it will damage the speakers. Overall I am quite satisfied with the purchase and with Crutchfield. I actually got a quick response to an email question I sent before buying the speakers. From a real person with a name even.

2007 Toyota Highlander
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased a set of SPS600C speakers for the front doors of my Toyota Highlander and a set of the SPS600 for the rear doors. I had the cheapest factory system and these put the stock Pioneer speakers to shame. It's a tremendous difference. Just a couple of notes to any fellow newbies at speaker installation: 1. Don't judge them too quickly. Play something with a strong bass at a decent volume for at least 30mins to an hour. The speakers sounded terrible (very weak midrange) until I worked them out a bit. Now they sound better than the JBL factory system I heard at the dealership. 2. Make sure you get a good seal between the speaker and any factory grilles in the car. Everything was muted and tinny until I make soft foam surrounds for the grilles to reduce sound leakage into the doors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The imaging of these speakers is amazing. I have them connected to a Dual XIA3145 100 x 2 amp. These things crank with sold bass and outstanding highs. They have a directional tweeter, which actually seems to work. I have this setup in my 1992 Toyota Shortbed Pickup. They're mounted fairly low on the doors, but they sound fantastic. The only downside is the mounting ring and grill cover. I had to install them directly onto MDF, used as a spacer, with screws going through both the grill covers and the speakers - not ideal, but it works. Other than that, these are totally worth the price.

i got these speakers put into my car and they slap even when i didnt expect them to. even when my subs are slappin i can still hear these on the low notes and on some of the mids just slappin away. they are very durable and i love how the tweeter in the middle can be moved and it only took me about 2 min to get them set just right to make the car sound like it has surround sound. cant go wrong and the best part about them is the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great. I installed four of them (front and back), along with a Pioneer DEH-P510UB deck in a 97 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab pickup. The front speakers fit great just as Crutchfield said they would. I had to drill new holes, but this was no big deal. The back speakers required a lot of fabrication, but I knew this before hand. Again Crutchfield was right on when they said they would not fit in the back. I purchased them any way and installed the back speakers external of the trim paneling and mounted them with the speaker grills. They look great, but this is not something I would recommend if you don't have the skills or tools to do so. Bottom line is that they look and sound great. I am very pleased with this purchase as they were an upgrade to the old factory system. Crutchfield was a pleasure to do business with and I would not buy from anyone else.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After research, reading reviews, and listening to different speakers in stores, I made the decision to buy two pairs of these speakers to replace the factory speakers for my vehicle. I am extremely happy with my decision. Crutchfield had the speakers $30 cheaper than anywhere else I looked and I had them in hand less than 72 hours after I ordered them. The speakers are great. They are paired with a Kenwood 342U deck, which I also bought from Crutchfield. The bass is intense and there is seriously no need for subs as great as they sound. In fact, I actually have to keep the bass boost at a low setting on the deck so the bass doesn't drown out the actual music!! To give an example of how good they sound, I was showing off the new system to my friend and after he heard a few songs in the car he said, "I wish my car could sound this good." This is definately the best buy around for the quality of the product and the price you pay for it. Highly recommended!!!

Got these to replace factory rear speakers in a 04' Chevy Colorado extended cab. One of my factory speakers blew out shortly after warranty and figured instead of using extended warranty to replace the one, i'd buy new and better ones. Just a note, for a Colorado, these do not install with factory bracket as instructions say. I did have to do some fabrication, minor, but was some. Ended up just redrilling some new holes and attaching to frame. Of course put some foam behind speaker to eliminate the vibration. Just keep that in mind that sometimes they don't go in as planned or from instructions. The wiring harness that came with them worked great though! Very satisfied!

I bought these speakers to replace the blown-out factory Inifity speakers in my wife's 2000 Dodge Dakota Club Cab pickup. She loves her new speakers and so do I. We are both very happy and would buy the same speakers again. We put a pair of these in the rear of the cab and in the front doors we put a pair of Alpine SPS-600C (same speaker, but with separate tweeter). This was an easy installation with no adapters required -- except for the speaker wires. The speakers just bolted in, but the wires required a splice (I did not use an installation kit).

These are some VERY nice speakers. Price and quality meet. Finally. Installed them on an '08 Liberty (wife blew out factory speakers in less than 3000 miles). Currently using the factory head unit. These things DO NOT distort. Ever. Look very forward to adding an amp later this year to see how far these perfect little nuggets can go. Only complaint, and it truly is nit-picking, is that the holes on the Alpine installation rings don't perfectly line up with the speaker's mounting holes.

I looked around for so long for a good speaker that wouldnt be too expensive for my Jeep. I found these and never really heard a bad thing about them. I bought 4 of them and they came in 2 days! Very easy to install. No problems at all. Sounded amazing on their first run. They do need some time to break in. they sound better everyday. I was suprised by the amount of bass in these. I wasnt looking for a speaker that pounded like a sub. But in my opinion if you have a nice deck with the right amount of power these will pound nicely. Sound nice with any type of music. Very versatile. I would suggest these speakers to anyone. And the fact that they are pretty cheap is all the more reason to buy these. Awesome speaker

Good quality, vast improvement from the factory speakers. Good over all frequency response. I did install the speaker baffles, as recommended by the Crutchfield adviser. Helps keep sound in the cab, improves bass response, and keeps moisture from the window seal from dripping on the speaker. Original speakers were rusty after 15 months of use. Would recommend to a friend for value and ease of installation.

I used the 600s in an unusual situation, in the front doors of a BMW X5 where the signal to them is bass only. The tweeter portion of this speaker is not utilized, just the bass. They are a big upgrade from the OEM speakers, deep as can be expected from a 6.5" speaker and very accurate. The mid-bass is really nice. They are also very sensitive, so they worked well with the weak factory amp. In conjunction with the subwoofer, all the bass is covered very nicely. Finally.

I lost (it quit) the driver side door speaker of my 2006 Silverado. Rather than buying the OEM replacement I figured I'd look into an aftermarket upgrade. Found these, read the reviews, decided to give them a try. Installed no problem, was a 20 - 30 min job with a friend helping me. I do agree the speakers have to break in before you can start to appreciate them fully. Mine are not quite broken in completely, but I can tell they are getting better. Very crisp, clean sounding and punchier than the stock speaker. However, I'm not "wowed" by them, which I would designate by a 5 star review. All around I think it's a good speaker, and worth the money, you shouldn't be disappointed. I'm sure with some external power they could really shine, I am runing them with the factory head unit. All in all I do recommend.

Great Factory Replacement Speakers

Michael from LaPlace, LA on 1/30/2009

I just installed these in the rear doors of my 05 Chevy Colorado. Even though Crutchfield says these don't fit my truck, they were a perfect fit, almost as though they were made for the truck. No modifications were necessary. The reason I wanted these were to complement the Alpine SPS- 600C speakers I installed in the front doors. I haven't installed my amp yet and am using the factory radio but these are sooo much better then the factory speakers...it's not even close. The bass is tremendous, even without a sub. I've had vehicles with Infinity and Kenwood speakers, but these Alpines are the best yet. You won't be disappointed.

Alpine SPS-600

Matt from Ohio on 12/26/2008

These speakers blow away stock OEM speakers. Installing them was somewhat problematic. First, the spacers that came with the speakers have tabs on the side, you cannot just snap off the tabs that appear to be snap off type, this will break the entire spacer in half so you must use a hack saw or plastic saw and cut the tabs off rather than snap them off. Second, if your Honda comes with 1/2" spacers, you must cut out the back of them because these new speakers have 3x the size driver on the back of them. Third, the wires seem to be pretty cheap. They are probably 20 or 22 gauge wire, pretty think for wire, but same as stock wire. I would have liked to see heavier gauge wire. The copper wire also is very flimsy, very thin strands of wire... Other than that the speakers are amazing. You need to break in the speakers just like a sub. After about 2-3 hours of playing some CD's the sound is amazing. You can turn the volume so far up and they don't distort. Certainly they should rename these speakers door shakers because thats what they do! Great buy!

These speakers fit perfectly in the front doors of my Silverado. I only had to drill some holes and they went in super easy. They sound great. Huge improvement over stock. Heard a lot of complaints about bass, but I think they sound great. The complaints are right about one thing, these speakers will not create annoying head ringing deafening all cars around me can feel me bass, but they do create an enjoyable sound mix, with some bass. I am enjoying listening to these paired up with the CDA-9884 head unit. This combo is perfect for my needs. Crutchfield's instructions were perfect. There were no surprises and I had these mounted in less than an hour. The most time was spent drilling the mounting holes, but that was easy. Will buy from Crutchfield again.

I have these in the rear doors of my 04 dakota QC with the 600-C speakers up front, which are basically the same, except for a seperate tweeter/crossover and 30 bucks. They sound great and with an MTX thunderform sub and an Alpine CDA-9886 receiver, all frequencies are accounted for. cruthfield provided mounting hardware and wiring adapter so it was plug and play, took longer to get the door plastic off than to actually install the speakers. Also, they look pretty cool although that really has nothing to do with performance. Definitley recommend these to anyone looking for a cheaper set of factory replacements that sound great!

After driving with the OEM speakers in my '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee for years, anything I installed was going to be an upgrade but these Alpines are terrific. One listen to Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" and "Why Worry?" convinced me that my purchase was well worth it. Between the new speakers with JVC KD-AHD39 receiver and the new A/C I now have in my Jeep, I'm going to actually enjoy driving this car again. I had to drill new holes into the door but, all in all, the install process was relatively easy. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My Old oem front speakers dry rotted out. I needed replacments, I bought some speakers locally, they would not fit at all, and no adapters could be found in town anywhere. Then I went to another store and they were no help at all, I could not get them to even remove a grill from speakers on the wall so I could see the hole spacing and match them up to my old speaker which I had with me. Then I went to a big box store no one helped me there at all, but I did see 2 brands that had 1 of the grills off. One of the was this Alpine SPS-600 and the holes matched up perfectly. I saw the price then went home and went to crutchfields site and the price was cheaper even with shipping. I called them and man they know there sfuff ( Very Very good help). All the extras they sent for installing were perfect. Now for the speaker This is one fine speaker, Bass is better than the 6 1/2's a little bit. Very Clear Sound. If you want really good sound then this is a good starting point without killing your wallet. Remember 50$ speakers won't sound as good I know.

Good Speakers

Derek from Pearl Harbor, HI on 6/29/2008

I got these speakers for my 2003 Dodge Dakota. The installation was a big, old-fashioned pain, but that's what I get for buying them from "Gigantic Electronics Store That Isn't Crutchfield". The problem was that these speakers are not a direct replacement in my vehicle, which I would have known before buying if I had gone through Crutchfield! Again, I'm kicking myself for not buying from Crutchfield, since that meant I didn't get a nice little adaptor for wiring them into the factory wiring system and had to solder and splice a lot more than even I would have liked. The point of all this is: don't buy from anybody but Crutchfield unless you're ready to dedicate an inordinate amount of time to the project. I had already gotten my head unit, sub, and amp from Crutchfield, then decided to replace the factory speakers as well, and didn't want to wait for shipping. These speakers sound really good. I'm powering them with an Alpine MRP F-300 4-channel amp, and they deliver the sound loud and clear. The bass is strong, and the highs are loud and clear as a fine crystal champagne glass. Believe me when I say thay your factory speakers do not sound as good as these. I would buy them again in a heartbeat; my only regret is the amount of time I wasted in the garage by not going through Crutchfield.

I'm sold

Wes from Owensboro, KY on 6/28/2008

I just purchased these speakers to replace the OEM 6 1/2s in my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix. Up until 3 years ago I had never owned an Alpine product. On that day, I was going to purchase a pair of Rockford Fosgate 6x9s in the rear deck of my 03 Bonneville and they were sold out of the speakers I wanted. I let them sell me on some Alpine 6x9s and have never looked back. Right now I am running these on the power of a Kenwood KDC-X492 head unit (which I have also reviewed), but I have plans to upgrade to an external amplifier in the near future. The sound is surprisingly clean. There is some distortion when I turn the volume all the way up on certain bass heavy songs; but these speakers are not made for that type of use. They play higher frequencies with great accuracy. The combination of music that I listen to has given me the opportunity to hear them reproduce a wide variety of vocal ranges, as well as guitars, pianos, horns, and artificially created bass like rap music. In the next month or so I plan to add an external amplifier to these speakers and a subwoofer to supplement the low-end and I firmly believe that I will have an amazing full-range audio system at a reasonable price.

Cons:

Great Speakers!!

John from Cherry Hill, NJ on 5/5/2008

Put these speakers in the rear deck of my 03 civic hybrid and the adapters that came with them even worked with the mounting configuration for the stock speakers... not to mention that they sound great and put out the best bass of any 6.5" speaker I have ever heard. For the front, they fit after putting in a 1" spacer, drilling new mounting holes, and finally shaving a bit of the plastic ring off the inside of the door panel that goes around the speakers. (This is pretty much needed for any speaker that is not shallow mount, the original speakers were VERY thin). Could not be happier with the purchase!

Features

Poly-Mica Cone: Each speaker features a Poly-Mica cone. Mica adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability.

Air-injected Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use air-injected rubber surrounds.

Silk Dome Swivel Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1.0" Wide-Range Silk Dome Tweeter for excellent high frequency sound reproduction. The tweeters can swivel up to 10 degrees so you can adjust for the optimum listening position. When the tweeter is fully angled at 10-degrees, the speaker's mounting height is increased by 0.125".

Highly Efficient Design: The SPS-600's high-efficiency design allows the speaker to be run off of your factory or aftermarket head unit, resulting in an easy system improvement for many vehicles requiring a 6-3/4" or 6-1/2" speaker.

Shallow-Design: The Alpine SPS-600 features a stamped steel shallow frame. This shallow mounting design allows for easier installation in a wide range of door panels giving you a perfect fit.

Adapter Rings: The supplied adapter rings allow the speakers to be installed in a standard 6-1/2" opening or an oversized GM/Chrysler 6-1/2" opening. The adapter ring mounts to the speaker using the supplied machine screws. The adapter rings have tabs that must be broken off when the speakers are mounted in a standard 6-1/2" opening. Also, when mounting the speaker in a 6-1/2" opening you will need to use the factory speaker's screws.

Grilles: The Alpine SPS-600 Type-S speakers come supplied with protective speaker grilles when mounting the 6-3/4" speakers in a non-factory location. The grilles feature a black plastic ring and a silver metal mesh grille. The grille mounts to the speaker using the supplied mounting screws. The grilles cannot be used in conjunction with the adapter rings.
