Our take on the Alpine SPS-600C

by Buck Pomerantz
Alpine

Why install component speakers?

A component speaker system gives you the best possible performance from your car audio system. A system consists of separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, each designed to cover one specific range of frequencies. As separate components, the woofer can move freely to deliver more powerful performance, while the tweeter can be custom-mounted in a better spot up closer to your ears, revealing a whole new world of detail. Separate crossovers are far superior to the simple filters wired into full-range speakers, so the components work together for smoother, more focused sound.

Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Alpine's Type-S component speaker systems fill your vehicle with high-quality sound at a reasonable cost. These rugged components combine outstanding materials with superior construction, so they'll deliver sweet sound in your car for years to come.

The SPS-600C component speaker system features 6-3/4" woofers that pound out strong bass with their lightweight polypropylene-mica cones. Air-injected rubber surrounds control the woofers so they hold their shape while moving freely, eliminating distortion and enhancing bass. Stamped steel frames provide rugged support for these speakers, and their low profile allows them to fit in most factory locations, including most 6-1/2" openings.

Mount the 1" silk dome tweeters separately in a location closer to your ears, and you'll hear all the high-frequency details broadcast clearly without a hint of harshness. You can also swivel these tweeters up to 10 degrees to improve the stereo image at your listening position.

The built-in crossovers make sure the highs and lows go where they're supposed to, for a smooth, natural sound. An efficient design allows these speakers to work well with a low-power receiver, while the rugged internal parts can handle the high-power output of an outboard amplifier.

Sounds Great

Written By JonG, St. Louis, MO on Saturday, November 12, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

If you are thinking twice about the component feature, dont. Despite what I had to do to modify my car, they are well worth it. Sounds amazing. These speakers led me to buy rear deck speakers by alpine. which also sound amazing. And to even add more sound to my car I am actually considering adding 2 subs by alpine. I personally was curious at how far the sound would reach on my speakers. I investigated and you can clearly here the song from roughly 1/8 mile away (I didnt go any further than that). In closing Great Speakers if you are willing to deal with the component feature and the installation of those tweeters.
Pros:
The sound that comes from these speakers is amazing. After my friend and I installed them into my altima, we clearly heard the difference from the stock speakers.
Cons:
The component feature while sounds great now that it is installed. I had to cut larger holes into the existing tweeter spots on my altima.

These speakers sound pretty good in my 05 Tacoma hooked up to a Sony head unit. With the stock unit they were not that great. For the money I think they are a steal, yes there are much better speakers out there but these work fine for my ears!
Pros:
Price and fit
Cons:
Had to cut stock tweeter wires to install

for the price it cant be beat. sounds pretty good there is almost no bass. they do need more power than a stock deck. the tweeters were really good as far as giving you multiple mounting optionsi poped them out of there little flush mount ring and removed the grill and put them behing my dakotas stock infinity grills. my biggest regret is i didnt get anything with more bass in my truck cab there isnt alot of room for a nice sub but if you have the room or dont want much bass i would't think twice.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This speakers are great and easily installed. Only mods I had to make was cutting a hole for the tweeters with a hole saw. Im running just 45w to each speaker from my aftermarket head unit and the sound is a big step up from the factory sound. I can't wait untill i have saved enough money for the rest of the system im certain that im going to be more than satisfied with the sound these have with the full 80w running to them.

2008 8 Scion xB Front

Written By Ugh, Burke VA on Friday, September 16, 2011

My son and I just installed these speakers to replace the factory speakers (We installed a new Clarion 50Wx4 head unit late last year). These speakers have awesome range and are sooooooo much better than the factory Pioneer speakers. I am hearing sounds on CDs that I have only previously heard when I am wearing high quality headphones (not wearing these in the car : )). They aslo sound awesome with the FM stations. You do need to dremel the tweeter holder in the upper part of the door to fit the new tweeter (that is not in the Crutchfield directions). These look great since the diameter matches the larger rounded portion of the tweeter panel. One install note: If you want to use the factory wiring, you will need to separate the factory tweeter connector from the factory tweets and reconnect it or you will get no sound out the front speakers. The factory wiring goes through the tweet first before it goes to the woofer. It was easy to do........1-2 minute with a pocket knife and a wire cutter......this also is not in the Crutchfield instructions.

Installed these recently in my silverado pickup which had the Bose system from the factory. Speakers are definately better than what I replaced. I had previously replaced my tuner and these speakers do seem to need the extra power to drive them. If you have a stock tuner you may not see the same improvement. I think these speakers are a great value

Fairly easy replacement for factory Infinity speakers in the front doors of 2000 Durango/Dodge pickup. The main speakers are a perfect fit with the supplied hardware. The tweeters are close, I used the plastic brackets that came with them and hot glue.

Awesome, even have great bass for the size. They perfectly complimented the AlpineSPS-406 Type-S 4"x6" 2-way car speakers i have in the dash, and the CDA-105 headunit. Only watch your dimensions and measurements for flush mounting the tweeters as the tweeter is 2 " but the locking ring is sturdy and about another 1/4' wide all the way around. Sounds incredible!

Installed these in my 2000 Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4WD. Have the Infinity component system. Replaced 4 speakers.Kept the oem tweeters since they were still good. It only took about an hour and a half to do the job. The information provided was great. I used the SPS 600 speakers for the rear doors. Door panels went off and back on easy. New speakers sound as good as I remember the original sounded new.

Pretty Good

Written By Nick, Cincinnati, OH on Wednesday, August 24, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I first installed these speakers, they sounded alright. Upon breaking in, they sounded much better. The highs are super clear and the mids are just OK. Although, the bass blockers (in-line crossovers) do an insufficient job of keeping the lower end frequencies from the tweeters. Due to this, I had to turn the bass down on my stereo because the tweeters were getting the low frequencies and sounded terrible. So now, the components are pretty much just tweeters. I MUST get subs now, because the lower end just isn't there. I would highly recommend spending the extra money to get the Type-R's or another component set that has external crossovers. If you already have subs, these speakers are for you!

Wow. Put these in the frond doors of a 2004 Silverado 2500HD and can't believe the quality of the sound coming from the factory stereo. Huge improvement over factory speakers. The base is good for the speaker size despite what some others have written and with a little tweaking of the equalizer the sound is really good. Unfortunately they don't fit the back doors so I am waiting to receive a set of Sony XS-GTX1641 for them. For now I just use the front speakers and the sound is good. Installation was easy, tweaters did not exactly fit factory openning but I was able to make it work.

Great Speakers

Written By ScottyL, Raleigh, NC on Sunday, August 14, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the money these speakers are hard to beat, sound great, easy to install and overall good build quality. Some of the reviews mention the tweeters are too bright, keep in mind when the tweeters are placed closer to your ears the highs will be much more pronounced. Check the frequency response/cut offs on your head unit or amp and set them accordingly, call a Crutchfield adviser for help. Others have noted the speakers do not produce great low end or heavy bass, they are correct. These speakers do a great job in the mid bass area, super clear vocals, brass instruments shine and snare drums pop, if installed properly you get a really nice punchy bass. They do what speakers this size are supposed to do, if you want the deep, heavy low end rumbling bass you will have to add a sub woofer of some sort to the mix. I have two pair of these speakers in my Dakota Club Cab, one pair front and one pair back and dual JL Audio 12" woofers in a subbox with separate amp. With the subbox in versus out it sounds like two entirely different systems.

Wow nice Highs at a great price

Written By DuaneB, Manassas, VA on Wednesday, August 10, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers to replace the stock ones that came with my 2008 Honda civic. I also installed Dynamat on the door. The 6 1/2" went in no problem with the Bracket that Crutchfield sent. I didn't have to modify the door or cut anything just like Crutchfield said. The tweeter I keep in the stock location and had to do a custom flush mount with zip ties. The tweeter is awesome. Before you couldn't even hear the stock tweeter now the highs are crisp and nice and you defiantly hear the difference. The woofer produces pretty nice bass and great mids. The biggest gain is in the quality of the highs. If you are looking for super low bass that really thumps get a sub. But I am more than happy with the bass these produce. I would recomand these to a friend that wanted to update his stock speakers. If I add a amp I might push these spearkers to hard but for just a replacement of stock speakers that the head unit runs they sound great. They are just what I wanted.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I got these speakers for a great price, and decided on ordering these to replace some garbage kicker speakers. For what I paid, these are great. I would have paid the regular price if I would have known how good these would sound. I currently only have the speakers in the without the tweeters because they don't fit where the stock ones are and I don't have the time or patience right now to find a good spot and put them in, but the stock tweeters and these speakers sound great together. I highly recommend.

And to touch on some small things, the bass in these is pretty good for 6 1/2s, they aren't ment to be subs but they do a good job for what they are.

Alpine SPS-600C

Written By Matt, Rochester, NY on Sunday, May 29, 2011
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Some of the other reviews state that these sounds a bit "tinny". I'm inclined to agree, at least without some tweaking of the EQ on the deck. Having done that, I'm quite pleased with them at this point. The tweeters were were easy to mount solidly, and sound good now. The woofers appear to be decent quality, at least for a set of speakers in this price range. The only issue I had was with the supplied adapter brackets for my 04 xterra. The manner in which the speaker mounts to the bracket is annoying, and the holes in the bracket for the screws don't quite line up with the stock mounting holes. On the first side, I able to force all the screws into the stock holes, but on the second side, I gave up and used one of the provided screws in a new hole.

Overall, these seem to be decent speakers with a little patience during the installation, and tweaking of the EQ function following that. I'd recommend these as long as whatever deck you're purchasing with them has a decent EQ function.

Nice sounding speakers

Written By Alex, Santa Cruz, CA on Monday, May 23, 2011

Just put these into my 2000 4Runner. Sounds fantastic, I highly recommend these speakers.

The crossover is part of the wire that runs from the main speaker to the tweeter, and this makes for a really easy install. Other speakers come with a large crossover that you have to mount somewhere.

They are a bit lacking in bass, but thats to be expected. The mids sound good, and the highs sound incredible. I am listening to songs I have owned for years and am hearing parts I never noticed before.

Tested with dubstep, house, and some good ol' System of a Down. Sounded great with all three genres of music.

Hard to beat Alpine!

Written By Jeff, Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, January 02, 2011

WOW! Can't believe how great these speakers sound! I truly think that you can't find a
better value in 6.75 components until you spend much more money. I just mounted
them in my 01 SS Camaro with the drivers in the doors and the tweeters in the A pillars.
I added the SPS 600s in the rear sail panels and I'm driving them all with the little
cheesy JVC 60w/channel amp that was on sale a while back.

The treble and midrange sounds very natural, and I still can't beleive the bass out of
these guys. I dissagree with the people that say that the crossovers on the tweeters are
too low. Could they be higher? Yes, but I haven't heard the signal breakup yet. Looking
forward to them breaking in and warming up a little more.

If you are thinking about these and you don't want the mortgage the house, you simply
can't go wrong. This maybe the best sounding system that I've ever built and I have built
a bunch!

Awesome sound

Written By RobertDLG, San Antonio, Texas on Monday, December 06, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently ordered and installed this SPS-600C component speaker system on a 2001
Chevy Silverado, extended cab,4 door, front door speakers. The Crutchfield provided
connectors were an extreme time savor. The brackets provided for the woofers needed
to be screwed onto the existing woofer area, as the existing woofer bracket did not
match flush onto the new woofefr speaker. With the sheetmetal in that area being quite
thin, this procedure was quite easy. The tweeters caame with a screw mount that fit
perfectly into the existing tweeter hole area. do not use the existing brackets. The one
flaw that i saw, was that the connector provided for the tweeter had a female and male
end connectors. They needed to be both male. I merely placed a small heat shrink
tubing, cut and soldered that connection and slid the heat shrink tubing on to that area.
I am still using the original factory stereo head unit with these speakers and they sound
AWESOME!!!

I am running these with the Alpine PowerPack and they play loud. They arent
the clearest set of components I've had before but they do play loud. I am not
pleased with the bass response. But that is what you get with a frq response
only as low as 70 hz. They are good mids but not enough low end to complete ur
system. You need an extra subwoofer for sure. Bottom line---- cant beat them
for the price.

Great for the price

Written By brackforce, Fayetteville, NC on Monday, September 06, 2010

This weekend I replaced the entire stereo system in my 07 Sierra with these in the front,
600s in the back, an Alpine CDE-103BT head, and their KTP-445 amp. It's a great, and
affordable set-up. My factory system had woofers in the front doors paired with small
tweeters mounted in the molding along the windshield. With a few modifications I was able
to fit everything from the 600Cs in the factory locations so that you can't tell that anything's
changed. These speakers sound great at low volume and give a nice thump at higher
levels when you add the wattage from a small amp. The tweeters can get extremely loud
when you turn your treble controls up, but at a mid range setting they sound great. I'm
glad I didn't spend extra cash on higher end speakers because I don't think I could get too
much better than this!

I had these speakers paired with the smaller sps-500 Alpine speakers installed in my car for a full year. From the very beginning the tweeters sounded to shrill to me. Finally one day after my ears were really hearting from the tweeters I had had enough and went to a stereo shop where I could compare these against other speakers. One thing became clear to me when I did that...these speakers sounded ALOT more shrill in the high frequencies than any other speaker. After hearing a pair of Infinity Kappa's I came home and ordered them here on Crutchfield and now that I have installed the Kappa's I am finally happy with the car stereo that I had not been enjoying because of the ear pain. I would strongly recommend that anyone who is interested in these speakers to go hear them in action before buying them.

wonderful budget speakers

Written By Anonymous, York PA on Monday, August 16, 2010

alright i have had these for 4 months now, ( 3 months on head unit power, 1 month amped)
i have had these for a pretty good while now, and i have to say they are excellent, are they as good as the type r/x? no, are they better then speakers three times their price? of course not, if they were they would be priced accordingly. such would just be stupid marketing.
They sound very good WITH PROPER TUNING, i am an amateur level competitor in SQL competitions, ( coundn't fit type r/x because my class has rules against " visible fabrication", ie it has to look completely stock with the exception of subwoofers.)
These did take a little work and some serious equalizing to get just right in my build. mainly because of the structural limitations imposed by how thin my doors are. and not being able to properly enclose them with behind the scenes fabrication. This causes their response to be quite peaky and need a good bit of equalization.
the bass from them is tight and responsive, however i only have them responding down to 300 hz. everything is amped of course, it is a SQ car.
for the average listener these should be a great buy, i would definitely recommend.

happy listening

Great speakers to use with factory deck

Written By ekorby02, Hailey, ID on Wednesday, July 21, 2010
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After months of research and asking more experts than necessary I decided to go with these speakers to save money. WOW! I like them as is and don't need to spend thehave money later to upgrade. I have these installed in a 2002 GMC Sierra Denali.(pickup) This pickup has the extended cab but with four doors and came with a factory stereo that had seperate compnent speakers in the doors. I thought they sounded fine and didn't need to replace them until one is now distorted. At first I installed only one door to hear the difference and was bummed. They didn't have any bass and didn't sound as full or loud as the factory speakers. The highs were much better without being overpowering, but that was it. I assumed I would need to replace the factory stereo now to push them properly. Once all speakers were in and I could adjust the sound for these they sound great! They are much better than before even with the factory deck. I know that if I ever decide to replace the deck they will be even better. I highly recommend these to be used with the factory stereo. They are very clean and have as much bass as I can expect from a 6" componenet with almost no power to them. thanks Crutchfield!

Fits 2009 Scion xB Perfect

Written By ellis76016, Arlington, TX on Sunday, May 23, 2010

I have a 2009 Scion xB and I Installed the Alpine SPS-600's in the rear door and Alpine SPS-660c's in the front door and *EXISTING* side mirror tweeter mounts. Thats right, the existing factory tweeters popped right out and the SPS-600C tweeters snapped right in. The seperation is fantastic.

For an economical factory speaker upgrade this is the way to go!

One word of caution the pictured Crutchfied "Toyota Speaker Harnesses Speaker adapter plugs" work okay for the rear speakers, SPS-600, but you may need to use something else (I did) for the front speaker/tweeter/inline crossover combo. But it was still a breeze to wire.

Cheers!

Alpine SPS-600C

Written By Rodney, Aiken, SC on Wednesday, March 31, 2010

These are some good speakers. Installing them into 1998 Chevy C1500 extended cab.
The speaker brackets did not work. Just drill and use the screws supplied. Tweeters
were no problem. The factory tweeters in front of the window controls fits. Just make
sure to remove the tweeter grill and take the surface mount pieces off. The tweeter just
pops into the factory hole.

These are some great speakers. I installed them in the dash of my Jeep Wrangler JK. The tweeters fit well in the factory openings and the woofer fit well in the dash. Taking the dash apart was difficult, to no fault of the speaker. Make sure you hook them up correctly with the crossover, otherwise they will sound very distorted. All in all they sound fantastic.

Alpine SPS-600C in 350z doors

Written By gvulakh, Philadelphia, PA on Sunday, March 28, 2010

These speakers are not great, barely good, and need improvements. I had them hooked up to a 14watt rms head unit and got very harsh sound from them. The tweeters are the culprits here. I believe the crossovers are very weak and you get what you pay for.

Right now they are connected to an Alpine MRP-F300 using the first two channels and they sound a little better, but are still quite muddy and harsh. A friend of mine has a set of dls separates costing 3-4 times more than this set and the sound is worlds away from these Alpines.

Moral of this story is: Spend more money on better components for high quality sound. Cheap speakers=lackluster sound.

Lets just say my vw jetta had great factory components but when I changed all of them out with these alpines a whole new world opened up. The sound was so clear and the subwoofers put out tight bass. I have to say for the price they can't be beat thanks crutchfield. And also they sent me all the stuff I needed to install these so it was so simple these jettas are confusing as it is but not with all the gear crutchfield gives you.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installing these speakers myself had me a little intimidated at first, but once I got going it was simple. I had to slightly modify my door panels to accomodate the Alpine tweeters and by the time I was finished I felt like a big-time proffessional installer. I think I'm ready to tackle an amp and subs now! The sound quality is 100% better than my old, worn out factory speakers. I will always come back to Crutchfield....always!

Good Speakers

Written By Ryan, Boston on Wednesday, December 16, 2009

I installed two sets of these speakers in my 98' Volvo V70. In the front, I hooked hid the
tweeter in the dash. In the back, I cut a hole for the tweeter in the door. Connected the
speakers to a 200W Alpine amp. While the speakers rub with high base on the back
door panel a bit and crutchfield blew the specs on the install sheets and I had a faulty
Street Wires amp kit - the sound from these speakers is amazing. Complaining a bit.
This install was one of the hardest, most frustrating projects that I have ever done-but
the finished product was worth every expletive. Great speaker-good price would buy
again.

2008 350Z (with Bose)

Written By Anonymous, Cheyenne, Wy on Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these speakes in the front doors and behind the seat. at first I was really
disapointed at the way they sounded but after they broke in they sounded better.
currently their hooked up to the stock Bose amp wich I will replace since the volume
level dropped on these compared to the stock ones. Reason i gave them a 4 instead of
a 5 is due to the lack of Bass compared to other components I've compared them too in
the car audio stores. compared to the SPR-17s and SPR-Pro speakers side by side
these are lacking in the Bass department. if you can afford the S or Pro I would
recomment them over these. Over all these are good speakers and if you have a Sub
then you don't have to worry much about the Bass, I'm a picky person and I'm looking for
speakers that sound a certain way and these aren't exactly what I was looking for, they
are an improvement over the Bose speakers I had. The cross overs are built into the
speaker which who ever is installing these will love.

Written By Mr. JIST, Broolkyn NY on Sunday, September 20, 2009

All I can say is wow i have a 03 infiniti g35 sedan w/ the bose package i
thought bose was good but when i put these in wow what a difference i
actually started enjoying music in my car again the highers were louder and
clearer the mids flowed nicer and the bass was def there, i have these
matched with the sps600 coaxials in the rear to match these components
they're both being powered by a sony xplod amp. This setup is fine for me
to be honest i have yet to turn my radio up to full blast cause thats how
loud these speakers get.
For the price of these speakers you cant go wrong justy make sure you
hook them up to a good amp for the best sound some factory amps just
dont have enough power.
enjoy :)

these are a great choice for excellent sound in the rear doors of a Dodge Ram Quad Cab. installed the component tweeters below the power window switch with a 2" hole saw cut out. flush fit with not any further modifications. i have them hooked up to an Alpine HU, 6x9 SPR's in the front doors and a MTX Thunderlink sub mounted on the trans hump. without any amps hooked up to the system, the sound quality is fantastic without going broke trying to upgrade from the factory setup... Alpine products rock !!!! thanks crutchfield and thanks to tech specialist OZZY for helping me with this purchase...

NOT impressed...

Written By Caitlin, South Lake Tahoe, CA on Monday, August 17, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just bought and installed these speakers and all I can say is that I'm looking into new ones already. I've taken my door panels off three times in the last week looking for loose connections because the tweeters kept cracking so bad, only to realize that there is simply too much bass being passed to the tweeters. The crossovers don't filter enough and it sounds TERRIBLE when trying to slump any kind of hip-hop. And where the heck did the mids go? The tweeters play the highs well, the bass is weak but at least present; the mids, however, are NOWHERE to be heard.

I'm half tempted to put the Toyota factory speakers back in my 4Runner; they're blown but they sound better then Alpine!

Great for the price

Written By Anonymous, Chicago, IL on Thursday, August 13, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased a set of SPS600C speakers for the front doors of my Toyota Highlander and a set of the SPS600 for the rear doors. I had the cheapest factory system and these put the stock Pioneer speakers to shame. It's a tremendous difference. Just a couple of notes to any fellow newbies at speaker installation:

1. Don't judge them too quickly. Play something with a strong bass at a decent volume for at least 30mins to an hour. The speakers sounded terrible (very weak midrange) until I worked them out a bit. Now they sound better than the JBL factory system I heard at the dealership.

2. Make sure you get a good seal between the speaker and any factory grilles in the car. Everything was muted and tinny until I make soft foam surrounds for the grilles to reduce sound leakage into the doors.

these are excellent component speakers for those who don't want to go overboard on higher quality speakers. They have excellent sound output for the "normal" listener who probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between these component speakers and a much more expensive set.

Highly recommend for those who want to upgrade their system without breaking the bank

Good, definitely not great

Written By Kyle, Eugene, OR on Friday, May 29, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Crossovers are simply not good enough. I get a lot of the low levels passed to the tweeters. I think the crossover is just not filtering it out. This only really is detectable when tryin to bump the music to a reasonable level. Still, you should be able to rock out and not listen to your tweeters crackle and sound terrible. I don't know much about the R's, but the external crossover probably does a better job than this 'internal' crossover.

I even added the alpine 445 in-line amp to see if it would help. The speakers sound WAY better, but still can't play them too loud or the tweeters sound terrible

Great Speakers

Written By jesse, Dallas, TX on Tuesday, May 05, 2009

For the price you just can't go wrong. Some people have complained about the passive crossovers but remember that you get for what you paid for. If you think they sound good with your cd player then you'll be surprised when you add a amp to them. The sound quality is good but not great but then again you get for what u paid for. The tweets were a bit too bright and yes you do get some mid range on the tweets and that may bother you if you install them high close to your ears. I ended up selling mine because the tweeters were too big and could not really find a nice spot for them. Because of the low end passive xovers I did not want them near ear level. Now I will buy the sps-600 with the tweets in them and i should not have any problems with the brighness of the tweets becuase they will be down on the doors. :) again for the price you just can't ask for any better. Don't expect too much, if you do then buy the typ r set.

Great Speakers!

Written By Greg, Cape Canaveral, FL on Saturday, April 11, 2009

I bought these speakers to replace the blown-out factory Inifity speakers in my wife's 2000 Dodge Dakota Club Cab pickup. She loves her new speakers and so do I. We are both very happy and would buy the same speakers again.

We put a pair of these in the rear of the cab and in the front doors we put a pair of Alpine SPS-600 (same speaker, but without the separate tweeter). This was an easy installation with no adapters required -- except for the speaker wires. The speakers just bolted in, but the wires required a splice (I did not use an installation kit).

Nice, but wimpy crossovers

Written By Steve, Dunedin, FL on Friday, April 10, 2009

I bought these to replace my '06 Impreza's front factory door speakers. Installation was fairly easy and the tweeter mounting brackets supplied come in handy. Sound quality is better than factory for sure, and even more since I'm powering them by an alpine amp. But crossovers are a little too simple and don't provide enough filtering. Even though I have everything dialed in right, I still get way too much low end for the tweeters to handle. Although these are a nice setup for the price, I would try to find something with beefier crossovers.

Alpine SPS-600C

Written By Ronnie, Parsons,TN on Monday, March 30, 2009
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding speakers for the price. At first I thought they didn't have enough bass, so I added an inexpensive sub (I'm 56 and like Classic Rock). When I adjusted the amp for the sub (I bridged 3 &4 for the sub and put the speakers on 1 & 2), I realized I didn't have the bass adjusted right on the amp for the speakers. I could have probably gotten by without the sub for the music I listen to. I put them in a 2007 Tundra Crew Max and your site said they would not fit the rear door, but I only had to drill one hole and use the mounting plate that came with the speakers to make them fit the rear door. I have a set of these front and rear now with one 12inch sub and my music really rocks, wish I was in my truck more to listen to it. They are clear thru the whole range, everything from Jethro Tull's flute to Peter Frampton's reverb. I would recommend these speakers.

I threw these in my 2002 Silverado, easy to install, especially with self tapping sheet metal screws that I had laying around... After that, the sound was good, but after the break in period they sounded even better. Great Highs and Mids,,, some good punch to the Bass. Now I have to install some sound dampening material because the vibrate the the door sealing plastic and panels when cranked up.. They were worth it!!!!!!!!

I installed these speakers and tweeters in my 05 Acura TSX. I kept the factory stereo and 360 watt amp. The stock paper speakers are no where near these Alpines. Even if I turn the music all the way up, I get a premium quality sound. The crisp is very good and I hear sounds of instruments that I didnt hear before in my old songs. The final result sure was worth the price and I convince my friends with the same cars to upgrade their speakers.

Alpine SPS-600C

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I received the Apline SPS-600C and installed in my 2000 VW passat with the factory Moonsoon amp, and there is an extreme noticeable difference. The subs handle low frequencies with ease. The tweeters are extremely flexible and versatile with sound...doesn't have the annoying high pitch frequency that many tweeters produce. I installed the tweeters without the included crossover/filter as my car had separate wiring for the tweeter already. The speaker set has a crisp and clear sound at low and high volume levels, and doesn't crack or clip at high volumes.

I was amazed at the simplicity of the install after speaking with crutchfield technical staff, who provided all the answers I needed for fitting the sub in my door..since the VW required an mounting bracket to push it further than the frame of the door.

Very satisfied with this product, and for the price, it's practically unbeatable.

For the price they meet every expectation one should have. The tweeters seem exceptionally crisp and the woofers are good but not great. They are in the front doors of a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD crew cab. Running them soley off of an Alpine Head unit (9884). Plan to upgrade the rear doors and run a 4 channel amp to all. Alpine makes great products at reasonable prices, so I'm very satisified.
BTW...1 complaint, the mounting screw kit was incomplete in the box. Crutchfiels is sending me the missing screws w/o a question or issue. Thanx to the Crutch staff for that !!

I am still using the factory radio and haven't installed my amp yet, but the sound and bass is great already, it may not even need a sub, especially after putting some Alpine SPS-600's in the back to complement these. I replaced the factory components and rear coaxials with the SPS-600s and
the difference is amazing. I have them hooked up to a Boston Accoustics
GT-50 amp (55x4 RMS + 350x1 RMS) and paired with a Kicker CompVR 10"
sub. The sound is much cleaner, with improved bass response and
increased volume levels as well. Installation was quick and relatively easy,
although I chose to custom-fabricate an adaptor to re-use the mounting
brackets for the tweeters to keep them in the existing dash mounts, which
added some time to the install. The front woofers required new mounting
holes in the factory brackets, but overall easy to install. These were a
direct replacement for my rear coaxials--I was even able to re-use the
original screws. Overall a great product and a deal for the price.

Alpine SPS-600C

Written By Gerry, Boston, MA on Sunday, October 26, 2008

I finally decided the lousy stock sound system in my 2002 Highlander must be improved, and I started with these speakers, just in the front. The difference is just what I'd hoped for. While the stock speakers had a mid-range peak (french horns sounded especially loud) that made listening painful or at best annoying, these guys are very flat. I don't see how they do that without enclosures, but I'm glad they do. It's a pleasure to listen to classical music again.

I had a local shop install them. It would have taken me all day and a couple of trips to their shop to pick up the added components.

All in all, good sound at a reasonable price.

I have these speakers in the front doors of my 04 dakota QC and I am very happy with them. I enjoy loud music and i have these hooked up to the Alpine CDA-9886 and its no problem. I flush mounted the tweeters using a hole saw in the "factory" location. These actually have a small round in-line crossover the size of a AA battery and I just ziptied them to a few wires behind the door with no issues. The price to performance ratio is great, highly recommend these speakers.

Put this set (SPS-600C's) in the front doors and the SPS-600's in the rear
doors with stock radio and no amp. Front set required a couple of holes to
be drilled, rear set fit perfect. The difference in sound quality is very
noticable and it sounds great. Considering an Alpine 4-way just so I don't
have to max out my stock radio to get the performance these speakers are
capable of. Would definitely consider all Alpine products in this truck and my

I installed these speakers in a 2002 GMC crew cab. Installation was very easy as the truck had component speakers from the factory. These speakers are so much better than the factory. Mid-range is excelent, bass response is very good from a 6.5". The treble, once adjusted properly, is very good as well. Tweeters provide ample adjustments for proper imaging. I have the type R components in my car, honestly if I would have tried these first I would not have spent the extra 70 bucks on the type R's. For the price these can not be beat.

Alpine SPS-600C

Written By Garrett, Williamsport, PA on Sunday, April 06, 2008

These speakers were a night and day difference from the stock speakers in my '91 Toyota MR2 Turbo. I really had no idea how much better it could sound in there until I finished getting these installed and tested them out. They weren't exactly as easy to install as I was expecting from the installation details, they required some fairly significant modding of the back of the door trim panel to fit, but it was worth it as soon as I turned on my radio. The sound is great even at highway speeds with the windows down; once it warms up I'll pop the T-Tops out and test that, but I expect to still be able to clearly hear my music. This is all being powered by the factory premium audio amp, too, but the JVC KD-BT1 sending the signal to the amp gives me a lot of flexibility to tune the EQ curves for my car (stock sub needs a boost to keep up with these speakers higher frequencies). Best of all I was even able to fit the tweeters into the stock mounting location by the side mirrors, and the sail panels just barely fit over them and make sure they stay in place.

These speakers sound GREAT! Cutting the holes for the tweeters was easy. The only problem I am having is with my plug-and-play Sirius satellite radio. I have a lot of distortion...Every other output is EXCELLENT. Well worth the money.

Great Sound

These speakers sound
great , especially
for the price. They
were a bit of a pain
to install in my
2000 civic but once
i did the sound was
worth it. They came
with a lot of
mounting options for
the tweeters as
well. With an amp im
sure they would
sound even better
but matched with my
pioneer head unit,
boston accostics
6X9s in the rear and
10 inch JL sub the
sound is perfect for
me.
