The sonic specialists at Alpine optimize their SPS-610 6-3/4" speakers for great range and impressive tone definition, even at low power levels. You can connect these versatile Type-S Series speakers to your factory stereo for an immediate sonic improvement, or hook them up to a powerful aftermarket stereo or amp for increased performance.

Mineral-fortified polypropylene cones are exceptionally stiff, yet lightweight, which means they can push out accurate bass and deliver clear midrange. Resilient rubber surrounds help keep the woofer centered for accurate cone movement, reducing distortion. Silk dome tweeters bring out all the details in your music. Grilles are not included — factory grilles are appropriate for most installations.

Note: Alpine describes this model as a 6-1/2" speaker. Most manufacturers designate this same frame size as a 6-3/4" speaker. For simplicity's sake we list it as a 6-3/4" speaker.

Priced per pair
Note: Sorry, Crutchfield cannot ship Alpine products to Guam or Puerto Rico.

Bought these a few weeks ago. I was able to listen to them at a local store and compared to all the others, the Alpines have smoother highs and tighter bass. They do need more power than many of the other brands but it's worth it. Definitely for those who prefer quality over quantity.

Decent sound

Written by: Eddie K. from Sandown, NH on April 5, 2016

2014 Honda Civic LX

I recently installed a pair of Kicker ks 6 1/2 speakers in my civic and was shocked at how bad they sounded with an Alpine head unit. Today, I pulled them out and installed a pair of these Alpines and they are a lot more musical. I would have rated them 5 star but I feel that they may lack in the low end but sound great for mids and highs. I'm using a sub for lows so the bass output wasn't important to me. They are much better than the Kickers when powered from a head unit only which surprised me due to the Kickers higher spl.

Pros: Clean sound. Pronounced vocals.

Cons: Non so far

Good speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have these speakers paired with an Alpine SPS 610c system in the front, powered by a 4 channel alpine amp. They sound great, can produce solid bass, with nice highs. The Crutchfield fitment guide said they would not fit in my 1999 Dodge Durango SLT, however, they fit perfectly.

Pros: Good sound and price

Cons: None

quite a nice upgrade for stock rear door sliverado speakers, handles the power from an amp very nicely i would very highly recommend anyone to upgrade 5 1/4 size to these!

Pros: with only a modest amount of creativity the original rear door bracket can be made to work really well for these, and they do sound better with those brackets as their mounting.

Cons: The fact that a decent bracket is not available for these in the rear door, making the extra trouble of making factory bracket usable

Just installed them this weekend and they sound great. Definitely an upgrade from the factory speakers. I purchased an open box and saved $20. The additional tweeter gives more high end to balance the lows. Not super expensive and well worth it

Pros: Extra tweeter

Cons: Slight modification of one hole drilled but it was not an issue.

I got these speakers thinking they had passive crossovers(nope) they were inline. So I installed them into my 2010 Silverado and sounded barely better than stock. 2 days later I installed a Kenwood DDX492 and OHHHHH my what a difference it made. With the controllable crossover , bass boost and 5 channel EQ these things sound great. 2 days from now I will be pairing it up with a xr900-5 kenwood amp and will modify this review

Pros: great and clear sounding

Cons: need more than just the factory deck

I purchased these speakers as factory replacements in the rear of my '08 Frontier. The quality of sound is far better than the factory speakers! They are very crisp and responsive. As other reviewers have stated, there is very little bass output from these. They match well with the 6 x 9's in the front, creating a full sound throughout the cab.

Pros: Great factory replacement.

Cons: Very little bass response.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great product. I am a huge Alpine fan and I was debating on getting these or the type r for a little more money. Decided to go with these since I was adding other type s speakers in my FJ Cruiser. Love the fact that Crutchfield sells the adapters so I could fit these in my 6x9 openings. These speakers really don't provide a lot of bass but that was what I wanted since I added 2 12" Type R Alpine's with a 1200wt amp. The set up right now is perfect with the bass from the subs and the highs and mids from these. Think I made the best decision with I purchased Alpine from my CD player all the way back to my subs.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very easy to install, much easier than Crutchfield led me to believe, however I am very displeased with the performance. I bought these and the component version for my truck. The component version sounds amazing, very clear with alot of bass drive and clear treble. However these were crackling right out of the box at mid-loud volume, possible i could have gotten a bad set. May be returning them very soon and bite the bullet and drill tweeter holes so i can install the component speakers in the rear of my truck.

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Poor sound quality, crackling sound.

1996 Acura Integra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First time buying the size 6 1/2 Alpine Type-S speakers, although I do have experience with their 6x9's and bought these because I loved what they offer in terms of quality construction and sound for your money. These went into the front doors of a 4 door Acura Integra and I will be the first to say you may need to use your old speakers spacers with mild modification, along with the new spacers provided by Alpine to actually clear the regulator arm for the window operation. Its not a huge challenge so long as you have a hacksaw and a vice to hold the old spacer as you saw threw the bottom to allow room for the bigger magnet and screw the two spacers together. They mount perfect and clear everything just fine once done!

Pros: Great bang for the buck.

Cons: May require thicker spacers modification to fit front doors of some cars .

I wasn't impressed from the beginning and I will be going with a different brand this time.

Smooth and bassy

Written by: Isaac T from Stevens Point, WI on July 15, 2014

This speaker makes me fall in love every time I hear it. The bass response is among the best that I've heard from a speaker (even on headunit power) and the tweeter is subdied, mellow, and smooth. Nowhere near tinny, at all. For keeping up with subs this wouldn't be a good choice, IMO, but if you don't want a sub and want as much bass as you can get from a budget speaker-only system, these are the ticker. On the power pack or an amp they perform even better! The tweeter is on a swivel, so you can aim it a little, which is nice, too. Wonderful speaker. They even come with Chrysler mounting brackets, which is a bonus.

Pros: Great bass Mellow tweeter Good on headunit power, great on amp power.

Cons: Not ideal for pairing up with subs if you're only running on headunit power if you want lots of treble response. No grills included

These speakers sound amazing!! Purchased from Crutchfield during a special sale that was buy one get one half off so I purchased two sets, one for the front and the other for the rear. Replaced the stock paper cone speakers in my car. With any Crutchfield purchase, they came with the master installation sheet made specifically for my car.

Pros: Amazing sound. Good range of sound. Lucky enough for an amazing deal on the speakers.

Cons: Lacking bass so a subwoofer may be needed if you want that extra "oomph" in your music. Installation master sheet could have been a bit clearer (or it may have just been my car that was difficult)

Wish I would have looked before installation to see my Truck already had the separates, Would have spend the few extra dollars to keep it that way. I did expect a bit better bottom end having gone with the 6 3/4. That said it is much better then the aged factory units I took out.

Pros: Crutchfield's vehicle look up and installation kit made this a breeze!! Would not do it any other way.

Cons: None - everything went as expected

The speakers work fine. The supplied adapters were not big enough, so used both adapters the free ones and the ones that came with the speakers. I felt better hooking the speakers with the alpine adapters they had bigger screws. The free ones had pretty little ones to connect the speakers.

Pros: The speakers have clear sound from my Clarion head unit. I have them matched with SPR 6x9 and they are a good match.

Cons: none yet

SPS-610 install and performance

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered speakers, adapter plate and wiring adapter for easy install in rear doors of 2011 Jetta TDI. The depth of the speakers 2 1/4 work with the recess within the door. It might permit a deeper speaker but these fit fine. The only notable comment is that when the speaker is mounted flush to thrle inner metal panel of the door is that there is a small gap at the top that needs to be closed out(velcro works) As for the sound..great though even when the mids and highs are adjusted i would prefer a separarte tweeter SPS610c. Might cost a bit more.. I might do that for my front ones. But all in all the sound is great and the price is right and you limit your exposure to any install issues.

Pros: Fit within car..fantastic Sound. Mid and bass great

Cons: Wish there was just a little more highs. But if you want everything be prepared for not only the cost of the speaker..but its installation

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Hey, what can I say, these are Alpines! Legendary Alpine clarity with rich deep lows, great mid range, and infinite highs. These SPS 610s are being used as rear speakers in a SAAB 9000 Aero Hatchback. Just to give props to the whole system, the stereo is simple, a Clarion NZ 500 receiver , two 4" Alpines in the front, a 150 watt Fosgate amp powering a 10" Pioneer sub in the hatch. Not overly complicated but sounds better than the factory Bose in my CTS, and tons better than the my Lexus' system. The speakers range is clear and feedback free all the way up to max.

Pros: Great sound.

Cons: Wish Alpine had a 6 X 9.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers a year or so ago. One the of the reasons I got them was because they were buy on get one half off. I should have just spent the money and got a set of pioneers. I agree with some of the other reviews about them being muddy. There is no crispness to them. There is also a lack of bass. My receiver sends just the low frequencies to the back two just to get any bass out of them. I thought there might be a break in time but one year later and they still disappoint.

Cons:

These are the starting point of quality sound

Written by: Rex from Arkansas on November 2, 2013

These speakers are very close to what you get in an "upgraded" factory stereo as far as the sound. Not as good as Bose, but genuinely good sound. It doesn't bother me at all to go from my 1200 watt, high end focals and subwoofer in my truck to my cheap little car with just two of these Alpines. The reason I like them so much is that they are not overly bright or harsh. Sure, you can't hear the lead singer blink his eyes like you can on the focals, but you can listen to them for 12 hours on the road to every kind of music without needing a break. After reading some of the reviews, it is obvious that people buying lower end speakers like these are not willing to install them properly for good sound. Make no mistake, these are good enough to require a solid mount and some dynamat (or peel and seal from home depot). This will eliminate the "muddiness" some people are getting and allow you to hear what a basic speaker should sound like. Also, when installed properly, you can get some good bass out of these. My bass is set on 3 out of 6 and these things do just fine, and I'm used to a 12" sub. Personally, I love good music in my car, and these represent the starting point for good music in my opinion. Don't get the wal-mart noise makers, spend the extra $20 and get a pair of these (or at least something as good). I am running these in the front doors of a 98 Toyota Carolla from the cheapest alpine head unit (17 Watts RMS). Full dynamat on both front doors.

Pros: Cheap, not harsh or peaky, balanced, smooth, warm, easy to listen to, generally enjoyable to most everyone for any type of music, best $100 speaker I've heard

Cons: Instruments tend to run together when played simultaneously, highs are so soft that snare drums sometimes sound like a baby sneezing, imaging is almost non-existent, all the common limitations of $100 speakers without all the harsh, unnatural, unbalanced traits you usually get

Well, not the Alpine I expected

Written by: DCRT08 from Grand Rapids, MI on October 3, 2013

First and foremost I'm happy to do business with Crutchfield because they're always very helpful. It costs money to have experts on staff to serve customers so I don't even mind paying a little more at Crutchfield, but usually their prices are competitive anyway. My setup is a Pioneer deck using the RCA outputs to an Alpine KTP-445A power pack, then to a pair of SPS-610s and a pair of SPS 406s. I've predominantly used Alpine products for 30 years but I have to say that I think Alpine isn't what it used to be. While these speakers aren't the priciest around, they're in the same price range as some that perform better. These speakers tend to sound muddy and they aren't terribly responsive. Even when taking into account the speaker size, the bass performance is pretty poor. Forget getting anything out of them for low frequencies. They also are not very efficient so the recommendation is don't try these unless you have a separate amp even if it is a small one. I first installed the deck and amp then made sure that worked before replacing the factory speakers in my truck. If you can believe it, the factory speakers performed better in many ways than the Alpines did. In all I'd say these speakers are "ok" but I'd look to a different brand that is at least more efficient before settling on these. I'd return them but they don't sound bad enough for me to go through the hassle of removing and replacing them. I think Alpine needs to step it up.

Pros: Seem to be made well.

Cons: Muddy sound, poor responsiveness, and not efficient.

These sounded great, but unfortunately they didn't fit... These fit the front doors of my 2007 Honda Civic EX Coupe, as expected from the Crutchfield "Fits My Car" tool, but NOT the rear deck location as indicated... They were too deep and hit the rear torsion bars for the trunk lid. I ended up returning these for a set of Pioneer TS-A1675R's which I found to be even better than these, especially when they actually fit. These are good, but the Pioneers seem to be a bit better sound-wise, especially in the low end.

Pros: Crisp, clear, and bright sound.

Cons: Doesn't fit rear of 2007 Honda Civic EX Coupe as expected from "Fits My Car" tool. You'll want a sub to go with these, there isn't much bass.

Replaced my rear door speakers in my chevy 3500 crew cab sounds a lot better than factory although I still have factory deck . The factory deck don't seem to push very many watts to rear ch. , but I think if I add an amp I would get full potential out of these speakers.

Pros: Easy install , higher quality than paper factory spkrs.

Cons: None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers create a nice warm tone throughout the car without being overdramatic with the highs like Pioneers. I have these driven by my factory head unit and they sound great, but seem to lack bass. I'm probably going to change the head unit out and possibly add an Alpine Power Pack to increase the power to the speakers and get a better equalizer to dial in more bass. Had these in a previous car with a JVC head unit and they were excellent so hopefully the head unit solves the issue.

Pros: Clean highs and mids

Cons: Recommend use of an aftermarket head unit with these to get some extra bass out of them.

Sound Great

I am setting up a all Alpine system in my 2002 Galant and I added these first and i couldnt believe it but they were so loud that I could barely hear my stock 6x9's anymore. Great addition to my CDA-9884

Pros: Great front speaker, loud and great bass.

Cons: Didnt like having to drill new holes for the speakers.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good replacement speaker. Installed in a 2008 Silverado. Crutchfield provided the speaker mounting bracket adaptor and wiring harness adaptor with purchase - no splicing and installed in both front doors under an hour (no power door locks or windows made the job a little easier). Much better sound over the junk stock speakers.

Pros: great sound - worked as advertised

Cons:

TOO awesome!!!

I have a 2012 Chevy Cruze LT without the Pioneer upgrade. I had 4 of these speakers installed into the front and back doors to replace the factory speakers. I had a local audio store put them in for me. The sound is great for being connected to a factory radio. They sound so good that I can't wait to add an amp to them. I want to keep the factory radio, so my next step is to put in a sound processor ( A sound processor is needed to hook up an amp to a factory radio in most cases. ) and an alpine amp up to them. This is when I will really be able to show the quality of these speakers.

Pros: They sound great even with just a factory radio at all levels of volume because they are 2 - 80 watts RMS power.

Cons: None!

Kind of disappointed

Written by: Ryan from Appleton, WI on April 24, 2012

I was excited to get these installed with my new Alpine deck and rear Alpine speakers, and I saw that these were rated really well, but the sound quality is nowhere near what I expected. I previously had Rockford Fosgate speakers in the car I just sold, which sounded great, but these Alpine speakers sound exactly the same as my factory speakers I just replaced for these. I am hoping there's a way I can return these and get different one's installed without having to pay a bunch of money.

Great upgrade to my sound system. Alpine is my speaker of choice hands down.

I have a Infintit g35 and I have the alpine 6.5 component in the front and these in the rear. I know it says they will not fit in the rear but with a little work they will fit. Anyways, these are very good! I love them! I have my mids and highs powered by a jl4500 and the power works great! These are very sharp, and the highs sound amaizing!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The mounting brackets sent for the 02 and up Nissan Frontier XE did not fit and the speakers are deeper than oe and rattle against window. Took the universal thicker mounting brackets and had to do a lot of altering to make them work but speaker still rattles against window on drivers side. Lost a lot of volumn with the Alpine speakers compared to stock. Not really happy with the speakers but I do like the Alpine cda105 unit.

I just installed these in my 97' 4runner Limited and after a few mods to fit the size (moved up from 5 1/4), this speakers bring my back seat alive. I have these ran on a Alpine MRX-F30 with a matching Alpine SPS-610C front set of components and with it only turned to about a quater power and set at 45 Hz it really fills the space and cuts out all outside sounds when I need it too. Only issue about these is the same with all the rest you MUST BREAK THESE IN!! If you try to force them to run at top power with an amp right away you will end up blowing them in no time. Let these warm up, they may take a little time but before long they will hit strong mids and clear highs better than most of the rival brands.

great speakers! i used these to replace the 6x9s in my grand am. They aren't amplified, but they are really loud and clear. they have a good amount of bass (nothing compared to a 6x9), but the mids and highs are awesome. overall I'm really impressed the only thing I would change is that I might run bass blockers on them. they don't come with speaker grills btw, but who needs them!

Features

Poly-Mica Cone: Each SPS-610 speaker features a Poly-Mica cone and butyl rubber surround. Mica adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability.

Silk Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1" Wide-Range Silk Dome Tweeter for smooth high frequencies. The tweeters also swivel up to 10° so you can optimize them based on your listening position.

Efficient Design: The SPS-610's high-efficiency design allows the speaker to be powered by your factory or aftermarket head unit, resulting in an easy system improvement for many vehicles requiring 6-1/2" or 6-3/4" speakers.

Mounting: Without an adapter, the SPS-610 speakers fit standard 6-3/4" applications. Given their required cutout, they will also fit standard 6-1/2" applications without an adapter, but new screw holes must be drilled. Using the included adapter brackets the SPS-610s can be mounted in a variety of standard 3-hole 6-1/2" applications, Ford 4-hole 6-1/2" applications, and non-standard 6-3/4" applications, without any modification.

It looks like the Alpine SPS-610 2-way speakers have a slightly taller mounting height than what you can fit into the rear doors of your Tundra. However, our research indicates the Alpine's have a 0.783" mount height and you can fit up to 0.778" in your truck; so with that little of a difference, I would imagine you can still get those to fit without much trouble. Also keep in mind our Crutchfield Tech Support can help you with the installation when you purchase the speakers from us. [ Larry  Oct 21, 2015 ]  Staff

To be honest with you, I purchased all SPR-60 Co-Axial, SPR 60C Component Speaker Set, and a set of the SPR-69 . However, what I have heard and seen. You could not go wrong with these speakers for your stock stereo system. However, if your just looking to make a change of speakers and your stock speakers are working. I would wait and I would save my money up until I could get a "Quality" Alpine AMP to put with these speakers. Most factory Systems are not so good that I might even save up until I could also get a New Factory Head unit. However, if your factory speakers are blown then take a look at the SPS series and the SPR series and by you a pair of which ever one fits your wallet the best. You wil not be able to tell the difference between the two, if not driven by an AMP. Good Luck through search. Please do not hesitate to email me back if you have any questions. I'm going to shoot straight with you, my opinion is totally mine. I'm always going to tell you what I think and try to save you money at the same time. Type in you speaker of choice into "Google" and look at the difference in Prices compared at what you are actually looking at now I bet.... Also, when purchasing online, "ALWAYS" purchase the SQUARE-TRADE" warranty with every item you buy. The are a great warranty company. They even took back a set of speakers that I bought while they were still under the 1 year Factory warranty and sent all the needed return shippment labels and within 7-10 days I had my $185.00 back in my account. Also, ALWAYS KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL BOXES.... Hope all of the above helps you. Later, R [ RICKY  Feb 06, 2014 ]

I installed them in my 2003 Silverado along with a new receiver. I cannot tell you if they will work with your stock stereo but if you are replacing one for one they should work. By the way, mine sound great! [ DAVID L  Feb 05, 2014 ]
Yea it will but to get the full power and quality of the speakers u should upgrade your head unit... Also sounds great with the tweeters.. [ WAYNE  Feb 05, 2014 ]
