Alpine's S-Series speakers feature rugged looks and tough, ultra-rigid cones that hit hard. The 3-way SPS-690A 6"x9" speaker delivers the bass-rich output you crave with its aluminum-coated polypropylene cone and durable rubber surround.

The titanium-coated polyetherimide (PEI) dome tweeter produces sharp details across a wide dispersion pattern, for excellent "sweet spot" imaging. A pulp cone midrange adds warmth and texture to the output from this well-balanced 6"x9" speaker. Grilles are included.

Man, what a huge improvement over stock! I replaced the dead OEM junkers in my 99 Olds Intrigue with these Alpine's. They fit perfectly under the stock rear deck grilles and the sound is strong and clean. I would recommend these to anyone.

Excellent Sound up to a certain volume

Ryan88 from Brigantine, NJ on 1/18/2006

I have an Alpine 40Wx4 RMS amp so i figured i would upgrade my aging kenwood 6x9s with these nicer alpines. They sound excellent and have very powerful bass except once you reach a critical volume the woofers make a snapping noise. It sounds like they hit something. There is nothing interfering with the speakers so it is definetly in their design.

Excellent speakers, very loud, just dont put them too loud or theyll make a brutal noise. Your best bet is to buy cheaper speakers and a sub.

Sweetest Speakers Ever!

These are the sweetest speakers I have ever heard. I hooked them up to my factory stereo and it sounds great. Great speakers for the price.

these speakers are great 6x9's if you're looking for great clarity and decent bass for a great price. I put a pair in the back of my '03 corolla after blowing out the stockers. they have less bass than my stockers, but have awesome clarity. if i wanted bass, and if you do too, i would of went for the type-R models which are made more for bass, but i wanted clarity so i chose the type-S model. i would definitely recommend these for anyone on a budget looking to replace stock speakers. i need to hook these up to a stonger head unit (i'm running stock) and see what these speakers can really do. for bass i'll throw a box in the trunk and enjoy the clarity up front. these speakers look cool too, if you're able to display them somehow do it. now i know why alpine has such a great reputation for speakers.

Great speakers for the price. They're currently the only speakers I have in my car (blew the stock one), but they keep the music flowing. Very clear, loud, great for when you want to impress the guys, or when you just want to relax and listen to your music. Probably (IMO) the best speakers in this price range.

Not bad for starters

Anonymous from CT on 3/26/2005

These speakers offer some of the best midrange there is out there. Although they can't play incredibly loud they give you a bang for the buck. In my opinion their bass response isn't bad, if you want some real impact, go with JBL 6 x 9's or Infinity 6 x 9's. Thats only if you like it really really loud. I loved these speakers for the excelent sound reproduction they created. If you want speakers that sound great and are worth the money you should give these a try.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are the best speakers I have ever heard. When I first got them, they were powered by a factory radio, the sound was supurb. And it only got better when I hooked them up to an amp. The thing that make these speakers great is that they don't need loads of power to sound good or to produce excellent bass. But either way, amped or not, you will not be dissappointed.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought a pair of these Alpine 6 by 9 speakers a few months ago.I am running them off of a Kicker amp at almost 110 watts per channel.Without a doubt these are the deepest sounding 6 by 9's I have ever heard. They sound like I am running a pair of 8 inch subs behind the seat of my truck. The bass out of these is nothing short of incredible, however the mid range response and the highs are lacking.I bought these at the advise of one of the CRUTCHFIELD advisors when I let him know that I needed some powerful bass, but only had room fora pair of 6 by 9 speakers. He recommended these and I am VERRRRRY happy with them.My system consist of 2 Infinity kappa 5.25 in the rear,2 Infinity reference 5.25 in the doors,2 Polk tweeters in the dash, the Alpines described, and a 10 inch Kicker comp in a sealed box.Alpine deck with built in XM,Alpine amp,2 Kicker amps for a total nominal power output of 860 watts with no idea what the peaks are,but it is LOUD and clear.Even with all of this crammed into a regular cab truck(DODGE)The alpine 6 by 9's are the real stars of my stereo, but you need at least 50-75 watts per to really see what they can do.If you need a little more bass and are limited by space(no room for subs)you will not be dissapointed by these. Just make sure you already have the mids and highs taken care of cause these offer very little in that area.

Features

Aluminum-coated Polypropylene Woofer Cones: Each speaker features an aluminum-coated polypropylene woofer. Aluminum adds strength and heat resistance to polypropylene, resulting in reduced distortion and improved reliability.

Air-injected Rubber Surrounds: For a smoother response and improved durability, the woofers use air-injected rubber surrounds.

Pulp Cone Midranges: Each speaker has a 2-3/8" pulp cone midrange.

Titanium-coated PEI Dome Tweeters: Each speaker has a 1/2" titanium-coated PEI dome tweeter. PEI (Polyetherimide) is a polymer that offers high resistance against harsh environmental extremes, superior rigidity, and sonic purity. When combined with titanium, the result is a tweeter that delivers crisp, clear highs.
