The beauty of Alpine's SPT-21GM speaker system is that it's one-stop shopping. You'll get a 6-1/2" component system for the front of your truck or SUV, featuring two 1" tweeters with built-in crossover systems for cleaner highs. Alpine also gives you a pair of 6-1/2" full-range speakers for the rear factory locations. With power handling up to 80 watts RMS, this system will really rock whether you're using a factory radio, an aftermarket car stereo, or an outboard amplifier to power it.

The chameleons

Alpine designed the Restyle line for drivers who want to improve their sound but want to maintain the factory look of their vehicle. The SPT-21GM speaker system upholds this approach by giving you streamlined tweeter housings that match the style of your GM interior. Mounting brackets are also included for fitting the system's woofers into the factory speaker locations and using the factory grilles. Once the SPT-21GM system goes in, you won't even know it's there... until you crank up the volume.

Note: The Alpine SPT-21GM speaker system is not compatible with Bose-equipped factory systems.

As these are intended for use with un-amplified factory head unit, can they be installed with an external amp? If so, following your 75% - 150% rule on the amp buying guide, should I be looking for an with 60 min RMS and 120 max RMS?

Yes, you can use an amplifier to drive the Alpine Restyle speakers. When matching an amplifier with speakers (as opposed to subwoofers) you probably want to keep it within a 75-125% range of the speaker's power handling; or 60-100 watts RMS per channel in this case. The Alpine Restyle SPT-21GM speakers are rated to handle 2-80 watts RMS; and while Alpine doesn't provide a frequency response for these models, they appear to be most similar to the Alpine Type S series speakers which have a 70-22,000 Hz frequency response rating. looking at these speakers and would like to know how they sound on mid bass and are the tweeters silk dome ? I like deep tight mid bass and soft highs

The Alpine SPT-21GM speaker system consists of two 6-1/2" component woofers, two 1" tweeters, and two 6-1/2" full-range speakers. The component woofers and full-range speakers use a mineral-fortified polypropylene woofer cone with rubber surround for dynamic full-range sound quality with tight, accurate mid-bass.
