Affordable Alpine Type-E subwoofers add a solid shot of bass to your system without draining your bank account. These subs handle up to 25% more power than previous Type-E models, but still use the same tried-and-true design that's made this line so popular with budget-conscious bassheads.

The SWE-1042 10" subwoofer uses a pulp cone reinforced with Kevlar® that responds quickly, yet is very durable. A Santoprene™ rubber surround controls the cone's extended movement for powerful and accurate low-frequency response. Alpine builds the heavy-gauge, custom-stamped steel frame to stand up to the demands of hard playing, while the sub's extended pole piece is vented to dissipate heat and control distortion.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-E subwoofer has a Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design.

Santoprene Rubber Surround: The high-excursion 3/4" Santoprene rubber surround is durable and resistant to the elements, resulting in a very reliable performance. The surround is specially designed to resist deformation that is common in woofers with wide surrounds. This design gives the surround more control over the woofer cone to reduce distortion and possible driver failure.

Dual Progressive Nomex Spiders: This subwoofer has dual Nomex spiders for added stability and mechanical durability. The custom progressive roll gives the woofer a longer, more linear stroke with maximum centering and restoring force. Special edge control design and Nomex construction provide excellent tear resistance, strength and long-term reliability.

Gasket Cover: Alpine uses a Concealed Mount Gasket System to cover the mounting screws for a clean look.

Custom High Strength Steel Basket: The frame is custom stamped from high strength steel.

Bumped Back Plate and Extended Vented Pole Piece: This woofer combines a bumped back plate and an extended pole piece, giving it a nearly 1" peak-to-peak cone excursion. This extra long cone movement provides a higher bass output.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 0.6 cu/ft to 1.25 cu/ft.

Manual Correction

Frequency Response: The manual lists the frequency response as "Fs-1kHz" (Fs=Free Air Resonance frequency). According to Alpine, the actual frequency response is 32Hz-1kHz.

Just blew a sub... I had 2 10 inch subs that a friend gave me and those things pounded..... I ended up blowing one of the coils in 1 sub.... so I went out and bought this alpine 10 e and I am pretty disappointed..... my 2 old subs would wake up the whole neighborhood and people could hear me before they saw me... my seats would shake.... now I put in this alpine thinking there one of the best brands out there and it just isn't the same..... I feel like my old sub is dominating and making all the noise, and its only a single coil which makes a big diff

Fantastic for a budget sub

Written By Matt, SLC, UT on Tuesday, July 15, 2008

I've got 2 of these in my trunk [under]powered by an Alpine M450 and they sound amazing. Granted, with a more powerful amp they would be even better but because I wasn't looking for bass to shake the entire neighborhood this set-up works great for me.

wow

Written By zach, Oskaloosa, Iowa on Wednesday, July 09, 2008

This sub works great the only reason i gave it four stars instead of 5 was because i have a piece of junk amp and it isnt giving this thing enough power. Other than that this sub works great and i would highly recommend it although you might want to get two. I might write a new review when i see it perform with a different amplifier.

Almost Perfect

Written By Major, Atl, GA on Saturday, June 21, 2008

I had to choose between the /////Alpine and the punch stage 1's. And I am GLAD that I chose these.
They have great sound quality. The Frequency response goes down to 32 hz (right around where the hardest hitting bass notes are). They have decent sensitivity @87db. And the Xmax :-) the Xmax is 11.7mm( peak around 23mm, per manual).
The only thing that could be improved is the power handling. But after all this is supposed to be a budget sub.
/////Alpine really outdid themselves with these monsters. I have thrown horrible amounts of power, TRUE POWER, at these guys and they still are hanging in there. These babies hit hard like 10's yet they can go low like 12's. I rattle other people's cars and My passengers get massages everytime they ride with me. But people swear that they are 12's and don't believe they are 10's until I show them.
If Alpine increases the rms power handling on it...its a... a Competition Sub.
And with Crutchfield, you can't go wrong.
GRAB A PAIR OF THESE ( AND GIVE THEM GOOD RMS POWER), TRUST, TRUST, TRUST ME... YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!

Alpind=Loud

I have an alpine CDA- 9884 paired with two of these subwoofers. The subwoofers are powered by an MPR-M450. This system is loud, at volume 10/35 I can't see out of my rear view mirror. I wasn't expecting this much bass, but i'm happily supprised.

I have 2 of these subs in a 1999 GMC Sierra Extended cab powered by a 2-channel Kenwood with about 150w RMS to each. Subs sound great and are nicely matched. No distortion and good kick. Would recommend them to the beginner.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ran two of the 10" Type E subs with a Kenwood KAC-8103D at 2 ohms for 500 watts X 1. I used a large sealed box and the subs sound great. Perfect combo of tight and deep bass. I am totally suprised of how they turned out. My product adivsor recomended the combo and I am pleased.

clean and accurate

Written By John C, charleston on Wednesday, August 22, 2007

I just have one with a mono Visionik V108xt 200 watts @ 4 ohm pushing it.

Does a great job.

Infinity 6x9 3 way Refernce in the back.
Infinity 6 component in the front
R Fosgate 50 x 4 pushing the speakers

Kenwood 591

This set up was lacking both low and midrange before he one sub and amp. Now it is just right, and adds a lot of depth to the other speakers as well as nice tight thump.

I was worried about too much bass, as I wanted it to sound like a live concert and not a window ac or bull dozer.

I closed the port on a type 2 Q logic.

This in a 2006 passenger van.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2 of these 10" in a dodge truck single cab. They are being fueled by an ////ALPINE amp 200 watt. These are the 1st speakers that ever distorted my vision while driving. I have had several different systems in my life, This is the best so far. It is easy for systems these days to rattle the rear view mirror inside, but these dudes rattle both exterior mirrors as well and massages my back too!!!!

great for the money

Written By Brady, New Rockford, ND on Monday, June 04, 2007

i got mine hooked up to a RF P250.2 amp and a single Q logic .65 cu ft box and it's sweet, it even makes my mirrors shake in my pickup. i bought a RF stage 3 Shallow sub and the type E can handle the power better and its way cheaper too.

Really good sub

Written By Vax, Centreville, IL on Thursday, May 31, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This sub is really nice, my bass is super tight and it rocks everything including the mirrors and I only have one! I got it in a Q Logic sealed box .65 cu ft. with a 800S Rockford Fosgate Punch Series Amp bridged at 400 rms. I used to have a Rockford Stage 2 Sub 200 rms, don't even compare to the Alpine, really nice for a good price for a little extra thump!

i have one of these in a 1.3 sq ft ported box powered by a sony 500 watt amp. it hits great for just one 10 but if you want something that will hit deep and loud, then i suggest a bigger setup. im actually about to sell it and get a Type R 15, so hopefully that will hit the lows i want to hear.

Kicks Bass

Written By Bill, Cincinnati, OH on Tuesday, February 20, 2007

I bought two Alpine SWE-1042 10" subs for my MTX Thunderform enclosure I bought. My bass is powered by an Alpine MRP-M650 600 watt mono amp. This system rocks!

2 subs is enough

Written By scott, Canon city, Colorado on Tuesday, May 09, 2006

When i was reading through the reviews wondering if this was the product and how many subs i needed i wasnt sure. For anyone wondering how many subs to get 2 is plenty. I listen to a lot of hip hop/rap and rock and it sounds good for both. You can allways turn it down a little to for other types of music. I would recomend these subs.

Smooth tight bass that complements your music

Written By Hutch, Key West, FL on Friday, March 17, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I just installed a pair of these subs in a sealed dual box (.7 cubic foot per chamber) that sits under the rear seats of a Honda Ridgeline. I'm using a Alpine MRP-M350 wired for 2 ohms. Like most of the reviewers, I am totally pleased.

My neighbor, a professional musician, helped me dial in the amp settings couldn't believe the sound quality and said it was better than his home studio. He may have been generous in his praise, but this setup rocks.

If you're looking for smooth tight bass that complements your music, this is it. If you want to shatter glass and scare children, go with something else.

Pretty darn good

Written By Kenny, Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, February 26, 2006

I just bought this product a couple days ago and I am still in the process of breaking it in. Even then it sounds really good. Great SQ sub and it does displace alot of air for single 10". I have it powered by a Profile 400SX which runs 300W rms bridged. It really fills in the the low tones that speakers just don't cover. Perfect for the person looking for some tight, accurate bass that has the ability to really hit the deep notes. I was really torn between getting this sub and the Infinity 1040W, both sound awsome but I am more than pleased with this product. I can only imagine how good it will sound in a couple of days once it's broken in.

(3) 10" type e

Written By rickzecliipse, St. Louis, MO on Saturday, January 21, 2006

I was a little skeptical of these subs at first. I bought 3 10s and put them onto a hk800d ma audio mono amp. Put them into a custom box I built with .95 cubic feet of space for each in the hatch of a 03 eclipse. Could not be happier. These subs hit so hard I cant sit in the car with it turned all the way up for more than a few seconds. But make sure you have an accurate amount of power running to alpine subs or they will sound terrible. Best bang for the buck.

Written By Steve, Massachusetts on Friday, January 06, 2006

got 2 of these in my 05 civic powered off an alpine mrp-m350 amp and an alpine 9847 deck and a qlogic 10D75 box. idk if you can get better subwoofers than these for the price i paid. got the deck from crutchfield. free installation gear made it easy to install. if you are looking for an inexpensive but quality system, you cant go wrong with this. get a different amp if you are gona add regular speakers too though.

Great product, great price, but some features lacking.....

Written By Lee, Houston, TX on Wednesday, December 28, 2005

I bought two of these for a custom enclosure on my Ram Hemi Quad-Cab, matched up with a v12 amp. Couldn't ask for better performance or looks for the price, but the connections are cheap and the overall fit and finish of the basket is lacking. As far as sound, the subs are dead on, responsive in tricky situations, and can be mounted in a respectively shallow sealed space.

As an alternative, take a good look at the Infinity Reference 1040w, which for a similar price ( buy one get one free...) offers better connections and a solid basket design. In the end, buy from Crutch as they have the best prices hands down for this stuff....

Awesome!

Written By Michael, Ortonville, MN on Monday, December 12, 2005

I started out to be a Rockford Fosgate guy, but when I sold my old car, to get some extra cash for the time, I sold the stereo with it, now I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, I have an older Alpine MRD-1000 amp (500x1 @ 4ohms) pushing two of these 10" subs. They sound awesome-especially in an enclosed box, I have a dual 10" box, the smallest regualr box avaliable and these subs hit all the lows and highs for any music.

I have started building a custom triple 10" enclosure to handle three of these 10's, this should tell you how good these subs are.

Like the title says, AWESOME, at least 2 times over.

Great subs, great price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These subs kick. I bought two. What a deal. I was skeptical at first because these subs were the lowest model in the Alpine line. But i am glad that i chose these because they sound perfect in my car. They also saved me mondo cash. I would recommend these subs to anyone with a small car like myself, i'm not sure what car works best with these subs but i have a 200sx, so i guess you could go from there. You could also try custom boxes that meet the specs for these subs. I hope this review helps anyone with their decisions because i used reviews from other people while i was trying to decide on which subs and amp to get and they helped me out greatly. Well keep it real.

this sub is very nice for it's size and price. i have one 10" with an encloused box, and it's very nice. i am powering it up with an alpine mrp350 amp. it is very nince. the lows hit really hard. if you are willing to spend an extra 10$ go for the 12" but over all these subs hit hard. two thumbs up

Bang for the buck

Written By Reiner, Nashville, TN on Wednesday, October 05, 2005

I've been a JL audio fan for quite some time and was skeptical about purchasing these subs( 2 for 1 sale ). I am an audio engineer/inventor by trade and know what sounds good. I built a home theater sub using the Alpine in a 1.56 cu ft sealed (well braced) enclosure, coupled with a 180 watt plate amp with a 30 hz/5db boost. I was pleasantly surprised with the sound quality and bottom end "meat" that this sub produced. Another surprise was the amount of excursion it could handle using a sine wave sweep and test tones. Friends come over to watch movies and say it is the best home sub they have heard, more to their surprise is when they find out it was built and not store bought. I am very impressed! Customer service was great, but wished they had more "white paper" data when I was asking about enclosure size.

Great Subs

Written By Ace8904, Fort Madison, IA on Wednesday, September 28, 2005

These subs are great i have 2 in a sealed box(about .90 cu/ft. each) with a 1800 watt 2-channel legacy amp. They sound great i don't think they have the extreme lows like alot of subs, but if you listen to rock, they work perfect. They really pound once you get the settings right, for $130 for 2 you cant find better subs.

good sub

Written By sound, good place on Thursday, September 22, 2005

this sub is one of the best subs iv ever listend to for how much they cost and if they are run by a quality amp the sound they put out is just as loud and as hight quality as the type s .i have two of these subs and i wouldnt buy any thing els they are loud enought to make my ears hurt cause they hit so hard and so clean these are a good sub to buy and i highly recommend them

good inexpensive subs

Written By Jeffery, Lapeer, MI on Saturday, May 07, 2005

These subs are good. I have one in a F-150 on a hundred watt RMS amp. With the wattage that I am pushing, it provides good low end fill. Make sure You wire it correctly, so it doesn't "pop and buzz", and you'll be off to clear sound. Give these subs a try, you will like them.

Smooth Sub

Written By Tommy, Raleigh, NC on Monday, May 02, 2005

Clean, clear, smooth sound!! I have one of these in a sealed enclosure approx. .75cu/ft. and couldn't be happier with the sound. This sub puts out great bass that is amazingly clear and very precise. With the sensitivity at 87db and in a sealed box, this sub tends to need a little more power than others. I have this paired with the Alpine MRP-M350 in a Mazda 3 hatchback and I am extremely pleased with my choice. In response to Cory's review below....Red is positive, Black is negative!

Good Subs

Written By William, Hamden, CT on Saturday, April 30, 2005

These subs are really good. I would recommend them for anyone that wants to build a good system that is nice and balanced but who wants to be be able to have hearing after 1 year. i havent had any problems with these subs and i continue to be an avid Alpine fan. For those that these subs are too quiet for, go for the Type R's. Just my $.02

what a dissapointment

Written By cory, Starr, SC on Tuesday, April 19, 2005

I bought 2 of these subs, and put em on a 300 watt mono amp. I dont know if they are just overated or what, but they were the absolute worst sounding subs I ever heard, honestly. This was the first, and definitely the last time I will ever try an Alpine product. All they did was pop and buzz, very little bass at all. I bought one audiobahn 12, and it is making those alpines sound like$^%#@$#, I thought alpine was a trusted name in car stereo, guess I thought wrong. Not at all recommended.
