Alpine Authorized Online Dealer

Affordable Alpine Type-E subwoofers will fill up your ride with big bass without draining your bank account. These low-profile subs handle plenty of power, and still use the same tried-and-true design that's made this line so popular with budget-conscious bassheads.

The 4-ohm SWE-1043 10" subwoofer handles up to 250 watts RMS. Alpine treats the two-layer pulp cone with Kevlar so it won't buckle or distort under heavy use, while the tough Santoprene rubber surround keeps your cone under control for more accurate bass. Extra venting maximizes air flow through your speaker, dissipating heat and increasing your sub's reliability. The heavy-gauge, stamped steel cage holds its shape through the most relentless pounding, so your bass stays tight.

Two trim options allow you to hide your mounting hardware. Use the gasket cover for a simple, unadorned look, or frame your sub with the impact-resistant protective grille.

Get a great deal on this sub when you put together a system. Check out this Alpine dual 10" bass package.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

For Christmas I received two of these subs. Everything was cool for 3 months then all of the sudden I start hearing this rattling sound which i figured was a loose plastic component in my trunk. Then after another 2 months it started getting slightly louder. This is when I started to get frustrated and decided to crawl back onto my folded down seats and put my ear right next to my sub and at that moment I realized that my right sub was making this sound and the other one was not. I know if it was blow I would be a lot louder. I think it's either a voice coil or a factory defect.

Great Subs!!!!

Amazing sound from this thing! I recently set two of these 10's in the back of my Honda along with a SSL 2 channel 1600 watt max MOSFET amplifier and the sound is great! It's almost too loud. Ive got the sub level set at 3 out of 8 on my deck and they still thump hard with almost no distortion. The bass is extremely clear and crisp and can hit well on just about every note. I'd recommend this sub to ANYONE looking to improve the sound system in their car. You can't find a better product for this price.

Pros: Range, Clarity, Appearance, Price, Quality

Cons: None

First off, the speakers sound great! They came with easy to follow directions and after tuning them to my amp, I am very pleased with the sound/performance. I would definitely purchase these again if I was going to build up another system for a different car.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good subwoofer for a cheap system. I have it running off a lower power alpine amp (something around 150watt) and it works well with the stock speakers in my camry. The plastic grill and rubber trim ring seem to be fairly well built and are most certainly better than nothing for a sub mounted in the trunk of a car.

One negative thing I have to say about it is that it did not come with any mounting hardware. I had to go to the hardware store to buy some wood screws with large heads to hold the sub in the box because the holes in the mounting ring are rather large.

WOW, 1 month of use and the Kevlar (I am assuming) has already started to peel off of the front, ( I live on the coast in northern CA where it does not get that hot, mostly overcast and foggy). I have 2 of these subs matched to an alpine MRP-m500, (what comes in the bass package) and it has just trashed the subs. and yes the amp is tuned, I am an install tech myself.

works great for what it $$

Great for me, just the right amount of bass, tight and clean. I don't like the way
the grill is mounted but I will not take anything away from the performance of
the SW it's self!

Great choice

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've owned 2 sets of these, I kept my first 2 until I wore them out (my first two were way back around 2004 when the type E's were white) approximately 5 years later when I bought 2 new type E's, now black and with a grille. The grille is really helpful even though its plastic, its tough. Snaps right in and then the rubber goes on over the holes so it looks real professional. As far as sound goes, everyone that has ridden with me has been jealous. I'm only pushing about 450 watts through my amp, but they definitely sound like they should cost a lot more. I highly suggest these to anyone that doesnt want to pay for the type R's and get just about the same sound quality.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After reading the reviews for this speaker, I decided to order it for myself to
replace my old Rockford. I am very pleased with the quality of the Alpine and
the support provided with the package from Crutchfield. Absolutely love the
guard that comes with the speaker too! My yellow lab loves to step on
everything he can in my Sequoia and the guard has already saved my speaker at
least twice. I saw his muddy footprints on it after hunting and was concerned,
but he only managed to get the guard and the speaker is still in perfect shape!!
I highly recommend this for anyone considering the purchase!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Sub sounds great. I bought it stand-alone without a box because I was replacing a sub
that broke and already had a box. It was an easy swap-out and it sounds better than the old
one. The Sub hits deep and hard almost as if its a larger diamater woofer. One of these is all
you need to compliment your regular speakers, but I would consider getting another one so
that I could enjoy the bump at a lower volume.

First Subwoofer

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was my first subwoofer purchase so the process was new to me. I wasn't
sure what I needed or wanted. I asked for assistance on the forum and got
prompt responses, thanks there all. I ended up getting this sub mainly due to
the price. I guess Alpine was pushing them since the price
was cut on most of the sites I visited. I ended up getting it from CF due to
the help I received. As far as the sound, I was looking for a little bit more
punch on the low end in my car. I had replaced the head unit, door speakers and
rear decks a little while before this. Though they sounded good, I wanted to
bring it up one more level but not be overwhelming. I didn't need something to
wake up the neighbors. These things sound just fine once the volume is brought
up a bit. I'm not sure if this is typical for subs but the bass doesn't seem to
be brought out at lower levels. Maybe it's because this is Alpine's lower level
model but no matter, I'm pleased with the way it's sounding, no regrets.

Just installed two of these in my Chevy 2500HD pickup. I built my own enclosures (albeit they're a lame 0.48 F^3 each), and i'm powering these Type E's with a Kenwood KAC-8105d amp (500 wrms). I haven't turned the gain up yet, they haven't even broke in yet, and i love them. Lots of punch. The included grills are also a nice touch!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this sub on an open box sale, shippin went smooth. i got the sub hooked it up, did not pound hard at first but after it broke in for a couple hours i noticed that it was jitting harder and harder everytime i turned it on. i bought a large performance inline fuse and that made it sound even better. so all in all i payed less for this sub, with shipping, and am getting 2 times the bass on the pioneer i was running with my 600 watt kenwood.. my only problem is that now i have to get a bigger box lol, my little .74 isnt doin the trick real well. great sub i am very pleased! ill be buying more from crutchfield. and i would recomend this sub for anyone who wants some hard hitting quality bass, and want to still have money in there wallet. 1 is good. two can only be better! i might buy another one.

Great sounding sub!

Written By Zam09, Colorado on Wednesday, June 17, 2009

After a while researching and reading reviews and going to the store to listen to every single sub in this price range, i decided to go with the alpine type E sub because it could produce the low sounds the best. After it was installed in my car the installer showed me how it sounded and i was amazed. i had no clue that my songs could sound like that. It also gets fairly loud. My friend wen to a concert and said that my car was louder than the concert. The only bad part is that they get some distortion when you turn them up really loud but i guess that happens to all subs. I love this sub and am very glad that i bought this one. Buy the twelve and not the ten. it will be a bit lounder and sound better.

Great Subs!!! Great Deal!!!

Written By funoadb, Atlanta, GA on Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Just got these today, great deal. I ordered mine from Crutchfield and waited till they came in, so by far the best deal around now. The Subs hit great using a 1200 Watt, 500 Watt RMS Amp, I only have the amp turned up 1/4 of the way. I have to start my break in perion again. My aftermarket HU puts out 5V, so I cant wait to turn it up and really hear them thump. I am thinking turning the amp up only half way will be more then enough for me considering it already makes my mirrors tremble where it is set now.

bought two to replace an older pr. of kenwood 12" subs. i wanted a tighter, less boomy bass....and i got it! an eclipse xa 1000 drives them very well.
i listen to rock, hard rock, metal, and some jazz. more than adequate for all.

good stuff

Written By Paul, MA on Friday, March 20, 2009

just installed these subs yesterday with a 500 watt kenwood amp. my old subs were cracked by flying pieces of glass before i even got to use them i decided to upgrade. these were my first alpine subs and getting the deal of buy one get one free made it even a great deal.

i was skeptical about reading the reviews at first but after hooking them up and hearing them play, even on such a low volume made me feel better. with the amp tunred up maybe 1/4 of the way (breaking in period) they hit hard enough to fill the cab of my jeep cherokee with bass

cant wait to turn the amp up more

deffinately recommed them

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was very impressed with this sub when i first got it. the first thing i noticed was the travel, it was getting a lot of travel for a sub both brand new out of the box and getting its reccomended rms wattage. I left it alone as i was informed by a friend that you just need to give it time to "break in." well it was broken in alright, pulled the wires going from the terminals to the voice coils right out, i knew it was getting too much travel and this proved it, i soldered the wires, no problem, easily done. when i hook up the sub again, i noticed a strange knocking sound, i pop the trunk and notice the sub has something loose in the voice coil. so i called alpine, they tell me that "blown speakers aren't covered in the warranty at all", and that "i shouldnt even send it in because i have to pay for shipping both ways and theres no point since they wont fix it", even after attempting to explain that i'm not sure it was blown or even that it was my fault. It's safe to say that i wont be purchasing anything from alpine in the near future. And now i have this potentially good sub and i dont know what to do with it.

Good Sub Good Value

Written By Travis, Rio Rancho, NM on Friday, January 30, 2009

I picked up one of these for my wifes car (truthfully main reason I bought it was the included grill). I installed it in a sealed box with about 1 cubic foot of airspace running off an MTX Thunder 702X. All I can say is wow I got more than I expected. It doesn't go real low but then again most 10" subs don't go real low. We listen to mostly rock and country so we get enough boom for that. It even has me thinking about replacing the JL 10W3 in my Bronco with one. If you want a quality that is clean and tight this one fits the bill.

great for truck applications!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I recently dumped one of these under the back seat in my extended cab GMC Sierra and am thrilled how it has transformed the sound. I am throwing roughly 250w to this single sub, and for the style music I listen to (Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Fusion), it is all I need......with the proper components you can adjust this sub to "fill" and round out your system, OR you can boost it up to really "feel" the thump.... either way the sound is very clean and solid (of course, as CF advises, it helps to go with an amp that is capable of producing slightly more power than the RMS of the sub to get the most out of it). On the flip side, my stepson popped one of his CDs into my system recently (Hip Hop, Rap) and although it sounded decent, its not the type of music I set this system up for......lets keep it Real-----I don't consider this sub or my setup to be anywhere near "competition" calibur....if you listen to Rap, etc, you would probably want to go with the larger version of this, or possibly a dual sub setup to properly reproduce the massive low-end (frequencies) bass those recordings have. So all-in-all, this is a great sub at a very nice price......if you are not a hardcore audiophile but want more out of your car stereo, drop one (or two) of these in your ride....amp up your vehicles front door speakers....and start tweaking with gains, crossovers and HU adjustments-----I assure you that you AND your Buds will be impressed!

Enclosure Compatibility

Woven Fiber/Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-E subwoofer features a two-piece parabolic woven fiber and Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. The lightweight cotton fiber design provides a faster and more dynamic response from the woofer.

Santoprene Rubber Surround: The high-excursion, tapered half-roll, injection molded Santoprene rubber surround is durable and resistant to the elements, resulting in a very reliable performance. The surround is specially designed to resist deformation that is common in woofers with wide surrounds. This design gives the surround more control over the woofer cone to reduce distortion and possible driver failure.

Progressive Nomex Spiders: This subwoofer utilizes a Progressive Nomex spider for stability and mechanical durability. The custom progressive roll gives the woofer a longer, more linear stroke with maximum centering and restoring force. Special edge control design and Nomex construction provide excellent tear resistance, strength and long-term reliability.

Voice Coil: The Alpine SWE-1043 features a 4-layer single voice coil made from 180-degree high-temperature wire on an aluminum bobbin.

Airflow Optimized Extended/Vented Pole: This SWE-1043 features an extended pole piece which provides optimum airflow for the woofer.

Custom High Strength Steel Basket: The frame is custom stamped from high strength steel.

Speaker Terminals: This Alpine Type-E subwoofer features a pair of heavy duty push-terminals on one side of the woofer's basket that will accommodate up to 8-gauge speaker wire.

Tinsel Leads: The Type-E subwoofer uses insulated 16-gauge stranded tinsel leads.

Gasket Cover: Alpine uses a Concealed Mount Gasket System to cover the mounting screws for a clean look. The black rubber gasket ring comes already installed on the woofer and needs to be removed before drilling the mounting screws (not supplied). The gasket ring then snaps back into place once the woofer is mounted.

Protective Grille: The Alpine SWE-1043 Type-E subwoofer comes supplied with a high impact protective grille. The black plastic grille snaps onto the woofer without the need for any additional hardware. The rubber gasket cover must be removed when using the grille. The grill also hides the mounting screws, as well as protects the woofer. The grille adds 0.9725" to the woofer's height (1.6875").

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 0.75 cu/ft to 1.5 cu/ft. The ideal recommended volume is 1.0 cu/ft.

Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 1.0 cu/ft to 2.0 cu/ft. The ideal recommended volume is 1.35 cu/ft with a 1-1/4" x 11" x 22-1/2" (long) slot port.
