Impressive power handling
The SWR-1023D 10" subwoofer handles up to 600 watts RMS for big-time output, and its dual oversized 2-ohm voice coils offer system wiring flexibility. It works well in sealed or ported enclosures so you can choose what kind of bass you want to hear and feel. The one-piece aluminum frame houses a double-stacked ferrite magnet structure for increased accuracy and power handling, along with a finned, radial heatsink that shunts off excess heat for long-lasting reliability with reduced distortion.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

Solid low cost performance sub
Ease of Use
Using this sub in a xtra cab Tacoma. 1.4 cu ft box after displacement and tuned to 32 hz. Fosgate P500-2 run mono 4 ohm load with power output set to 675 watts clean. Amp had much more, but system design level works perfect. Performance. With this setup I get very clean, crisp bass. Low pass set at 80 hz. Drum beats are solid and impactful. No muddy sounding bass. Each hit gives a solid punch in the back of the seat like someone sitting back there kicking the seat back hard. Very frequency output is going to be effected by the tuning of the box. I listen to a wide range of music, classical, metal, dubstep. Low end response is very good. Shakes the inside of the truck and has good extension. Don't expect low end rumble like you would get with a 12 or 15 (have run both before), but for size of box required and output the Alpine is a winner. I did not want to give up a lot of space in the back of the truck (been there with cars with walls built in the back with four 15's) as now I want sound and utility. The shallower mounting depth from previous models, air space needed and cost made this one a winner. The sound quality and bass output from a single 10 is surprising. This is the smallest sub I've ever run (been building systems since the 80's) . Would recommend if you have tight space requirements and want good solid bass output, with good extension and great sound quality.

Im going to start off by saying, there is no better bang for the buck. i bought a pair of dual 2 ohme 10" Type R's about 8 months ago. i powered them with a Kicker IX 1000 footprint amp (Also frakin amazing!)and all i can say is WOW! INSANELY LOUD! They Punch like Mike Tyson, and rattled my chevy 1500 to pieces. poped my windshield out, mirrors fell off, made someone vomit in my back seat (Dont eat while bumping) and makes your hair float! Yet the bass is still so acurate and crystal clear. They are built very strong. i have put a full 1082 watts(RMS) to these subs, I cant blow them. NOTE: They will stink a bit when you put the power to them, but its just there way of marking there territory. 5 stars all the way, ill never get rid of them. i love them almost as if they were childeren.

I got these about 3 months ago, and when i first hooked them up i was instantly blown away, they hit so hard but produce such a precise sound. I have 2 of them in my 04 Dodge Durango. I have them hooked up to a 1000 alpine amp and they shake my car apart, you can hear me coming from down the street. My friends cannot believe this sound came from a 10' sub. I would recomend these to anyone who loves BASS!
I got 2 of the older model type-r's when they were on sale, hooked up to a new 1800 watt kenwood amp. This rattles parts of my car i never new could rattle. These have accuracy and raw power when you need it, however it lacks the range of a 12" sub still. Lookin for some cheap dynamat stuff now.

Alpine Type-R Subwoofer: These redesigned, fourth-generation Alpine type-R subwoofers include several enhanced features to achieve even cleaner, deeper bass extension, faster, more accurate transients and even greater output capability than before.
Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-R subwoofer has a two-piece structural parabolic Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. There is also an oversized inverted dust cap of the same material, which increases rigidity and virtually eliminates distortion at extreme volume levels.
HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of injection molded Santoprene, that allows for an incredible amount of linear excursion and greater SPL. The High-Amplitude Multi Roll Surround Design allows for extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area. FEA Optimized for linearity and made with injection-molded Santoprene, the HAMR surround is a key part of the suspension system that allows for extreme excursions with accurate, distortion-free control.
FEA Optimized Spider with Reinforced Layer Spider Integration: An FEA optimized Nomex progressive spider with reinforced layer spider integration ensures reliable and consistent control of the tinsel-leads to eliminate any possible mechanical noises or interference typical of many high-excursion designs.
Radial Vented VC Heatsink and Airflow Management System: Alpine's Patented Radial Vented VC Heatsink and Airflow Management System actively manages voice coil temperatures by forcing air directly across the heatsink system. This helps to minimize power compression and ensures reliable long playing time by actively eliminating output-robbing heat away from the voice coil. The new one-piece cast aluminum frame with integrated shorting sleeve uses the entire frame as a heatsink, to allow for sustained power output and handling, even in the most extreme of applications.
FEA Optimized Segmented Machined CRC Motor Structure: The new Type-R subwoofer has over 20% more motor force than its predecessor delivering more accurate, louder and cleaner bass with even more control, thanks to its new ten-piece, segmented, double stacked magnet structure. The optimized machined CRC motor structure also creates a symmetrical magnetic field while optimizing flux density to greatly reduce distortion, while further improving power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature (180°C), 4-layer dual voice coil offers more than 35% more surface area, allowing for increased power handling to 600W RMS / 1800W Peak.
Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 2-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 4-ohm load. If each coil is connected to a different amplifier channel, each channel will see a 2-ohm load.
Push Terminals: The push terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge, pin connectors, or banana plugs.
Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 1-ohm load) or series (for an 4-ohm load).
Sealed and Vented Enclosure Compatible: The Alpine Type-R Subs have been completely redesigned to offer more installation flexibility and application versatility (in either a sealed over vented enclosure) to build the ideal sound system in your vehicle. These new designs offer a near 20% reduction in mounting depth, while offering even greater output capability.
Recommended Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box sizes range from 0.5 cu/ft to 1.0 cu/ft. Within this range, the ideal size is 0.75 cu/ft.
