Bring on the power

The SWR-12D2 can handle an astounding 1000 watts of RMS power, so be sure to choose a suitable amplifier as these bass monsters definitely want lots of power. Its dual oversized 2-ohm voice coils offer the wiring flexibility you'll appreciate as your system changes and grows, so you can always pull maximum power from your amp. It works well in sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose what kind of bass you want to hear and feel.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-R subwoofer has a two-piece structural parabolic Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. There is also an oversized inverted poly-mica dust cap, which increases rigidity and virtually eliminates cone distortion at extreme volume levels.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of Santoprene, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive Conex spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature, 4-layer dual voice coils offer increased power handling to 1000W RMS / 3000W Peak.

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 2-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge, pin connectors, or banana plugs.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 1-ohm load) or series (for a 4-ohm load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume ranges from 0.65 cubic feet to 1.1 cubic feet, with 0.85 cubic feet being the ideal size.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 1.1 cubic feet to 1.6 cubic feet. The ideal size is 1.48 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 12-1/2" (W) x 1" (H) x 19" (L).

Q
does the recommended enclosure specks included driver and port displacement?
dave  Jun 05, 2017

A
No it does not include those but I found it better to play around with the size for better sounding subs for your car size

Q
I'm ordering a 2 channel a/b 2200 watt amp for two alpine swr 12D2s and I'm planning on bridging them and it should give me around 827 x 2 @ 2ohm RMS. Is this enough power to keep from speaking distortion or clipping my amp?
hunter  May 25, 2017

A
You should be fine. I have ran mine on dual channels but never for extended time. I run my d2s at about 1700 with a mono block and have had no issues for 6 months on my daily. I recommend buying an amp better suited for the job though or you'll never see the full potential of these awesome subs.
joshua  May 29, 2017

I'm running roughly 900+ watts @ 2 ohms to just one of the two alpine 12d2s I purchased and it sounds excellent. However you're running roughly 200 watts less than the recommended 1000 watts rms. So you may have slight distortion. Stick to the 75-150 percent rule and you'll be fine.

Q
I have the Alpine MRX-M110 Mono subwoofer amplifier with 1,100 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms. How I would wire this single subwoofer to the amplifier?
bayley  Apr 21, 2017
2 answers
A
It's best to wire it so that it's at 2 ohms. Google how to do it or find a person who knows what there doing. I know that you need to wire the sub so it works well with the amp. They need to both run at 2 ohms
lukas  Apr 24, 2017
A
Just use one side of the alpine subs terminals. since it is dual voice coil. Just pick a side

Q
A little help please :) I have an Alpine Mrx 110 2 ohm load hooked up to 2 Alpine type R 12" dvc 2 ohm subs homes up in series at 2 ohms. What should I set the dials on sde of amp to get the safe max base and not blow my subs??? Right now I have the gain at about 12% and the others at about 5%. Is it normal to have a little warm plastic smell in trunk since they are new, not necessarily hot? They are in a ported box as specified.

I'd highly recommend keeping it low for around 50-60 hours of playing time to let the subs break in. The difference between out of the box and broken in for me was extremely noticeable. How many amps is your amp rated for?
taylor  Nov 17, 2015
A
The dvc should be in series, and then the subs in parallel in order to get a proper 2ohm load on the amp. Double check the wiring to make sure it's the correct set up. There's diagrams on crutchfield's website. Those subs can handle way more than what that amp can produce. Make sure you don't have any bass boosters enabled on you head unit. They can overload your amp input and distort output. Keep the gain/bass knobs on minimum setting. You can set the freq knobs to your liking. Increase the volume on your head unit until your main speakers are loudest without being distorted and turn it down one or two notches. Now do the same with your gain knob on the amp. And then bass eq.

Q
A little help please:) I have an Alpine Mrx 110 mono block amp. With 2 12" dvc 2 ohm subs in series to 2 ohms amp. What should I set my gain, etc.. dials on the side of my amp to be able to crank my stereo and not damage my woofers, right now I have my gain at about 12% and the others at about 5%. I want more base but I want to do it correctly. Is it normal to smell the woofers in the trunk since they are new, not necessarily burnt or extremely hot, but more like a light warm new plastic smell??

Q
I have a polk pa1200.1 (1200@1ohm 800@2ohm 400@4ohm rms). Will this combination work together with a single ported box? Thanks
conceptvip  Jul 06, 2015

A
since you're looking at the dual 2ohm voice coils you can only run that @ 4ohms with that amp otherwise you'll blow the sub if you attempt a 1ohm connection. i recommend getting the SWR-12D4 and running it at 2ohm giving it 800W
gerald  Jul 10, 2015
A
Sure will. Wire the voice coils in parallel and you'll get the 1ohm from the amp. I'm sure the sub can handle the 1200W, but of course they're only rated for 1000.

Q
i have a r1200-1d which has 2 sets of outputs, which can do 2 ohms each and are internally paralleled to a 1 ohm min, will this 2 of these work with it?

The best way to get your answer is to call Crutchfield Technicians. I really don't know what a r1000-1d is, so check with Technical Support.

Yes this should work Because u want to keep 2 ohm stable so u may need more power

Q
I have a pioneer 800 RMS 1600 Peak amp at 1ohm. It's a mono class D. Can I run this sub with my current amp?
johnathan  Mar 10, 2015

A
i have that exact amp and blew that exact sub twice with it at 1ohm. DO NOT attempt 1ohm connetion on the 12D2 with more than about 400W max rms. i now have the SWS 12D4 and running 500W from that same pioneer amp @ 2ohms in a single sealed box in the back of a 92 oldsmobile. it shakes the car. virtually no problems
gerald  Jul 10, 2015
A
It says 3000 watt peak so you should be fine, I have mine in a ported box at 1200 watts, you can't tell its only one speaker , very loud.
deann  Mar 17, 2015
A
U can run it but u would be under powering it so u should get the sub and douwn the road upgrade to a bigger amp
michael  Mar 11, 2015
A
Yes, you can the sub can handle that, no problem. I was running a 1200 Rms dc amp and pushed really well. Just make sure that you break in your sub properly before cranking it up, it took me about 2 weeks at half power to make sure the coils set properly
frankie  Mar 10, 2015
A
You may blow the speaker. I had an alpine mx1100 at one ohm and blew in 30 mins.. Now have it at 4ohms
thomas  Mar 10, 2015
A
Yes. You'll have to wire the voice coils in parallel to get the 1ohm load.

What are my best choices for an amp to go along with 2 of these in a ported box?
aaron  Jul 16, 2014

it depends on what impadence you plan on using. if u set them up as 4ohm jumped and seal them together with one resistor in the back of the box you can run alot of power @ 2ohms. so look for a mono amplifier that has an RMS of 1200 or higher @ 2ohms. thats how I would do it.
