Bring on the power

The SWR-8D4 can handle up to 350 watts RMS, so be sure to choose a suitable amplifier as these subs definitely want lots of juice. Its dual oversized 4-ohm voice coils offer the wiring flexibility you'll appreciate as your system changes and grows, ensuring that you can always pull maximum power from your amp. It works well in sealed and ported enclosures so you can choose what kind of bass you want to hear and feel.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-R subwoofer has a two-piece structural parabolic Kevlar reinforced pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. There is also an oversized inverted poly-mica dust cap, which increases rigidity and virtually eliminates cone distortion at extreme volume levels.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of Santoprene, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive Conex spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (40mm), high-temperature, 4-layer dual voice coils offer increased power handling to 350W RMS / 1000W Peak.

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 4-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8-ohm load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept bare wire up to 8 gauge, pin connectors, or single banana plugs.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2-ohm load) or series (for an 8-ohm load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: The recommended sealed box volume ranges from 0.2 cubic feet to 0.55 cubic feet, with 0.3 cubic feet being the ideal size.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 0.3 cubic feet to 0.75 cubic feet. The ideal size is 0.7 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 7" (W) x 3/4" (H) x 15-1/2" (L).

Q
Hi, thinking about getting this sub and a alpine pdr-v75 5 channel amp which has a 350w rms @2 ohm output for a single sub. My question is, if I were to run this sub placing the jumper wires to make it run parallel @2 ohms, will it run ok? I know the sub is rated for 175w rms per voice coil which I guess would be perfect, I'm just not sure if running it in parallel would change those numbers. Thanks in advance

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes, running this sub in parallel with the Alpine PDR-V75 will be a perfect match. The power handling numbers on the sub stay the same whether you run each voice coil on its own channel or wire them together. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Have a 2009 Civic Si with a factory outboard amp that drives the front (component), rear deck full range and sub. Since the sub is in the rear deck it is effectively a "free air" woofer. Has anyone ever tried this sub in this application or another 8" brand and how did you like the performance? It would be nice to maintain the trunk space and keep the sub in the rear deck but I don't want to sacrifice too much performance either.

Free air deck, if you can afford it, go with a dual setup. I currently have a dual 8 inch (2 ohms mind you) SWR-8D2 setup in my Caliber SRT4. The performance and acoustics these two little subs deliver is absolutely phenomenal. They sound crisp, clean and have LOTS of BASS to shred your ear drums out with. I would highly recommend these subs and would highly recommend a dual 8 inch setup for truly amazing bass. I plan to add a third 8inch SWR-8D2 into a cubby nook in the back to allow for full storage utilization without sacrificing bass. Hope this helps :) P.S. If you go with the dual setup, make sure to have an amp that can push at least 700 watts out to the subs.
