You'd like to fit a monster subwoofer in your pickup or compact car, but you just don't have the room. Alpine's got the solution for you. The Type-S SWS-1043D 10" subwoofer stands only 4-1/4" tall, so you can fit realistic bass in tighter spots without giving up an ounce of sound quality.
Alpine starts with a one-piece pulp/glass fiber cone, reinforced with Kevlar® for uncompromising strength and accurate response. The tapered Santoprene rubber surround extends cone excursion and improves dynamics, so you can rock your Type-S subs without fear of a blowout. Advanced engineering gives you top performance while shaving 1-3/4" from the mounting depth of their previous Type-S 10" subwoofer.
Alpine builds the speaker leads into the spider, so they can't shake loose during extreme cone movement. A network of cooling vents reduces heat-induced distortion, so you can push your music and leave the meltdown worries behind. The dual 4-ohm voice coils give you more options for tweaking your bass, whether you're looking to wire up a multi-sub system or draw more power from your amplifier.
Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most 2-channel car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation. Most mono amps are stable down to 2 ohms.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
Alpine SWS-1043D Reviews
Average Customer Review:
Great for space, sound, and price

Ease of Use
I have had these for about 4 years. I absolutely love them. I bought them for a Grand Am and now have them installed in a 2012 Tundra Crewmax. The box makes all of the difference. Even though they do not sound as good in the Tundra verses the Grand Am they still have that solid bass hit when I listen to Rock music from the 80's.
Pros: Solid hit, No distortion, Good size for various applications.
Cons: None so far at >4 years.
I purchased a pair of Alpine's sws1043 speakers, and I am very disappointed. Both distort and rattle, even at low volumes. Swapped the amp for one with more power, and distortion continued. I'll be throwing them into the trash heap after I get a replacement.

Great bass for all types of music
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
Very clean, tight bass. Very impressive for a 10" sub. I have had 12" subs that don't
sound nearly as good.
Much More than I could Imagine
I put 1 of these subs wired to 2ohm under the back seat of my f150 in a custom box. I am using the alpine mrp-m350 amp sending 350w at 2ohm to this bad boy. It pounds very hard. My buddy has a kenwood 12 in his truck and this 10 smokes it easily.
Don't let the shallow mount design fool you into thinking it will not be that great. I would put this up against any other 10 out there even ones in higher price ranges.
This is incredible sub. I have two of these in my 2000 ford mustang. In a sealed box. It pounds i have hooked to a 4 CHANNEL HIGH POWER AMPLIFIER. One channel for each sub and then the other two to my comp door speakers.I have had my system for about 4 months now and not one problem. WE even did a self install, since crutchfield gives you free install guides.
Alpine it is
This things worth so much more than they're charging for it. I put one in a sealed box in my ford ranger regular cab right in between the seats, powered by a clarion amp, things rediculous. Deep bass just pounds out of this thing, whether its an overkill bass type of rap music, dmb or ac/dc, this things just awesome. I do my share of turning heads with it, most people dont even believe all i have is a single 10''. My buddy has a 12'' type r in his Duramax diesel and that just rediculous, up there with JL's w7 line for sure.. thats half the reason i went alpine, but man am i glad i did. Definitely check this thing out

Kevlar Reinforced Cone: This Alpine Type-S subwoofer has a Parabolic Glass Fiber and Kevlar reinforced Pulp cone. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design.
Santoprene Rubber Surround: The high-excursion Santoprene rubber surround is durable and resistant to the elements, resulting in very reliable performance. The surround is specially designed to resist deformation that is common in most woofers with wide surrounds. This design gives the surround more control over the woofer cone to reduce distortion and possible driver failure.
Screw Cover Gasket: The woofer includes a rubber gasket to cover the screw holes for a clean look. If the gasket isn't installed, the mounting height is only 0.625 inches.
Dual 4-ohm Voice Coils: The SWS-1043D features dual 4-layer voice coils which utilize 180°C high-temperature wire and a glass fiber former. Dual voice coil woofers offer flexibility in wiring. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm mono load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm mono load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4 ohm load.
Spring Posts: The woofer has two pair of spring posts which will accept pin connectors, banana plugs, and up to 8 gauge bare wire. All four speaker terminals are located on one side of the woofer to make it easier to connect the woofer in a parallel or series configuration.
Wire Jumpers: The woofer is equipped with two 3" speaker wire jumpers with banana plugs on both ends. These jumpers allow you to wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 2-ohm load) or series (for an 8-ohm load).
Progressive Nomex Spider: This subwoofer has a progressive Nomex spider for added stability and mechanical durability. The custom progressive rolls give the woofer a longer, more linear stroke with maximum centering and restoring force. Special edge control design and Nomex construction provide excellent tear resistance, strength and long-term reliability. The tinsel speaker leads are integrated into the spider.
Steel Basket: The high strength custom steel frame is vented around the perimeter for extra cooling.
Bumped Back Plate and Extended Vented Pole Piece: This woofer combines a bumped back plate and an extended pole piece, giving it a 2" peak-to-peak cone excursion. This extra long cone movement provides a higher bass output. The vents and dual flared design of the pole piece maximize airflow around the voice coil, giving it a more reliable performance.
Sealed Box Volume: The sealed box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 0.65 cu/ft to 1.5 cu/ft. The ideal recommended volume is 1.0 cu/ft.
Vented Box Volume: The vented box sizes recommended by Alpine range from 1.0 cu/ft to 1.75 cu/ft. The ideal recommended volume is 1.2 cu/ft with a 1" x 10" x 14" (long) slot port.
Bandpass Box: The manual also mentions using a bandpass enclosure, but gives no volume recommendations.
