Advanced materials

The SWS-10D2 10" sub can handle up to 500 watts of RMS power, so you can drive it hard and it'll keep up. The tough Kevlar® treated cone stays rigid under pressure, while its rubber HAMRS surround allows for maximum excursion. Its dual 2-ohm voice coils allow for wiring flexibility which helps if you plan on adding another subwoofer down the line. Also, it rocks in both sealed and ported boxes, so you can choose an enclosure that suits your tastes.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-S subwoofer uses a parabolic cone structure, with a Kevlar reinforced pulp cone and a Poly-Mica dust cap. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. The oversized, inverted poly-mica dust cap increases rigidity and virtually eliminates cone distortion at extreme volume levels.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of Santoprene, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive Conex spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature, 5-layer dual voice coils offer power handling up to 500W RMS / 1500W Peak (250 watts RMS per coil).

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 2-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 1-ohm load) or series (for a 4-ohm load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Alpine recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume between 0.54 and 0.89 cubic feet, with an ideal volume of 0.54 cubic feet. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 0.79 cubic feet to 1.34 cubic feet, with the ideal size being 1.04 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 10" (W) x 1" (H) x 18" (L).

Q
can i run two of those SWS10D2 subwoofer with the PDXV9 amplifier?

Yes if you wire the 2 subwoofers voice coil in parallel to create a 1 ohm load each ..and then wire the subwoofers in series to create a 2 ohm loat to the amp

Yes..... You have 4- 2 ohm voicecoils. Ultimately.... You can end up with either an 8 ohm load or a 2 ohm load. An 8 ohm load would waste amplifier power as the subs provide more resistance. Luckily the PDXV9 appears to be stable for a 2 ohm load for the subwoofer channel. Wire the sub's voice coils in series to create a 4 ohm load and then wire the two subs in parallel to one another for a 2 ohm final load.

Q
I recently checked my receipt online of my sub purchase 3 years earlier and I realized that I had an Alpine Type S SWS 10D2. (I thought that I had a Alpine SWS 10D4) A mono block Soundstream RUB 1.700 @ 400Watts 4 Ohm stable was pushing this 10" sub. I've been running it for 3 years w/ no problems. The last 2 months, I've been popping my fuse that runs + red to my battery from my Soundstream amp. Am I hurting my amp or my sub? Is there a way to make the impedences correct without buying more subs/amps. My sub is in a Ground Shaker bandpass box. Isn't there a way to do this with the wiring from the subwoofer? Thanks to anyone who can save me some headaches.

Hi Poshin, As long as this sub is wired correctly to your amp (it can be wired to a total of one ohm or four ohms, you would want four.) the setup should be perfectly fine, it sounds like it has been for a few years until recently. Blowing fuses should not happen. Make sure you are using the correct size fuse first, (amp manual) then start checking connections, a common problem is the primary power and ground wires running into the amp will come loose over time, and if the positive (red) wire becomes exposed and touches the ground (black) wire, or a metal piece of the car (short to ground) it will blow the fuse so it does not catch on fire. The ground could also be coming loose wherever it is attached to the vehicle etc. if everything checks out there the wires themselves on the way to and from the amp could have a cut and be hitting metal somewhere on the car somewhere also causing a short to ground, a common place to check would be where the primary positive runs through the firewall, if a grommet is not used through the firewall it will eventually chaff through the wires sheathing. Good luck, I hope you find the problem.

Poshin, One of my favorite things about DIY car stereo installations is learning how the whole system fits together. I have used many different setups with different ohms, dual or single voice coils, and more than one speaker. I can never remember off the top of my head all the different wiring combinations. Although I have found many different subwoofer wiring calculators on the web that have helped me in achieving my car stereo goal. These are a very handy tool, that has helped with my configurations in the past. Hope you can find one that helps you!!

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
