Advanced materials

The SWS-10D2 10" sub can handle up to 500 watts of RMS power, so you can drive it hard and it'll keep up. The tough Kevlar® treated cone stays rigid under pressure, while its rubber HAMRS surround allows for maximum excursion. Its dual 2-ohm voice coils allow for wiring flexibility which helps if you plan on adding another subwoofer down the line. Also, it rocks in both sealed and ported boxes, so you can choose an enclosure that suits your tastes.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 375 and 750 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Note: Sorry, Crutchfield cannot ship Alpine products to Guam or Puerto Rico.

2006 Honda Ridgeline

I have owned several of the major brands and My ears were never satisfied. One was loud one was real punchy with no depth one was very loud. These alpines provide the hard hitting, they get loud if u want them too and they massage you. At low volumes all the way to max they deliver clean extremely accurate bass. Sound quality along with shaking mirrors was what I was after and I dont have to look any further. I have two of these in a sealed enclosure under the rear seat of my ridgeline running off a kicker 1200 watt amp. I listen to ol school, r&b, rap, even a little country and all of these I have thrown at this sub sound new to me like I never really heard them before. There is no way you will go wrong Alpine now has a new lifetime customer as well as the great staff at Crutchfield.

Pros: Everyhing.

Cons: You dont have them.

I put two of these subs in my single cab f250 in a sealed box I built, specifically designed for trucks. I powered them with a Kenwood 1000w amp at 2 ohms. I have had many decent systems in other trucks, but none are even close to this one. I chose these for their good specs and they blew me away. I have very good response down to 25hz and it drops pretty quick from there. If powered properly, these subs will hit very hard and sound fantastic at any volume. There is cheaper stuff and also more expensive.. I think these are very good mid priced subs that will greatly exceed your expectations. Give them a try. I highly recommend them.

Pros: Look great, excellent value for price. Exceptional sound. Will Get Loud. Does exactly what they are supposed to if properly set up.

Cons: Nothing I would change.

Sound Good - Don't Last

Chad from Florida on 12/15/2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put two in sealed enclosure with volume exactly as recommended. 400W of amp to each. Voice coil failed in 3 weeks on first. Crutchfield replaced it. Second failed after 4 weeks. Replacement lasted a week. Turned gain down to minimum on amp and they lasted 4 months and both blew within a couple weeks of each other. Gone through 5 and they have all failed the same way - with an open voice coil. No sound degradation just quit working completely with no warning. Avoid.

Pros: Sound great

Cons: Don't last long driving them anywhere close to the rating.

Those who rated these subs poorly must not have installed them correctly or don't have a good amp to push them because I have nothing but hard hitting lows in my truck and get nothing but compliments. I have two of them and I am extremely satisfied and would order them again in the future.

Pros: Hard hitting major low bass

Cons: None

Both my Subs blew after 3 weeks. Crutchfield said they would happily replace them for free but I am not taking the chance on having these blow on me again. Getting the Alpine Type-R's now.

Pros: looks and sounds good

Cons: Terrible build

Good value, previously had 2 JL W1 dual in my truck, there is a noticeable quality difference. But the price difference doesn't show it. (you get very little less quality for a lot less price with alpine)

This subwoofer is a great buy! I purchased it about 6 months ago and it still sounds amazing. I have it paired with a sound ordinance 4 channel amp. 2 channels are powering the sub at 4 ohms and the other two are powering my Polk Audio component door speakers. This thing pounds! All of my friends tease me about only having a single 10" sub until they hear it. It's optimal for that chest pounding bass in rock music and that HUGE sound that dub step/club music has. It even is very loud and does not distort for rap music. The sound it produces is so clean and powerful. My friend has a top model, 2 12" Kicker setup. Yes his is much louder, but it is nowhere near as clean and clear as my Alpine. It is also constructed very well. It's been in my trunk getting hit with guitars, pressure washers, etc for 6 months now and is still fine. Lastly, it looks great. There's a rubber piece that goes around the screws and it makes it look very clean. I recommend this to anyone looking to have huge sounding bass without taking their entire trunk up with a subwoofer.

Pros: Small Loud Clear Looks clean

Cons: Only Con: the rubber piece around the edging is tough to put back on.

I have this sub in a ported box powered with a sound ordnance M-2250 amp. RMS power matches up perfectly and is a great combination. Not a bad way to get a little bang for your buck.

Easy install with great instructions. Installed in a box with the volume exactly as per the specifications. Speaker matched to amplifier as per the sales person recommendation. Sound was great - hit hard, Speaker coils failed after less than one week. Manufacturer replaced unit - no questions asked. Let's see how long the second unit lasts.

Pros: Great sound, easy installation, easy-to-follow instructions. Warranty replacement easy.

Cons: Did not last one week. Coils blew with matched amplifier and not even a high volume.

Features

Kevlar Reinforced Pulp Cone: This Alpine Type-S subwoofer uses a parabolic cone structure, with a Kevlar reinforced pulp cone and a Poly-Mica dust cap. Kevlar adds strength and tear resistance to the woofer cone while maintaining the benefits of a pulp cone design. The oversized, inverted poly-mica dust cap increases rigidity and virtually eliminates cone distortion at extreme volume levels.

HAMRS: The woofer features a High Amplitude Multi Roll Surround (HAMRS), made of Santoprene, that allows a large linear excursion and greater SPL. The HAMRS design allows extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Progressive Spider: The progressive Conex spider has reinforced layer tinsel leads to ensure reliable and consistent control of the tinsel leads and eliminate any mechanical noise or interference often seen in high excursion cone designs.

Compound Radius Curve Pole Geometry: Alpine's Patented Compound Radius Curve pole geometry ensures a symmetrical magnetic field, while optimizing flux density to reduce distortion and further improve power handling and output.

Oversized Voice Coil: The oversized (65mm), high-temperature, 5-layer dual voice coils offer power handling up to 500W RMS / 1500W Peak (250 watts RMS per coil).

Dual Voice Coils: For system flexibility, the woofer has two 2-ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Spring Terminals: The spring post terminals are all located on one side of the woofer. The terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, or bare wire up to 8 gauge.

Jumpers: Included with the woofer are two voice coil terminal jumpers. These jumpers allow you to easily wire the voice coils in parallel (for a 1-ohm load) or series (for a 4-ohm load).

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box: Alpine recommends a sealed enclosure with an internal volume between 0.54 and 0.89 cubic feet, with an ideal volume of 0.54 cubic feet. Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer, will handle a lot of power, and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music.

Ported Box Volume: The recommended ported box volume ranges from 0.79 cubic feet to 1.34 cubic feet, with the ideal size being 1.04 cubic feet, using a slot port measuring 10" (W) x 1" (H) x 18" (L).
