About the Alpine SWT-10S4

Buck Pomerantz

Right size, right sound

Here's a big bass breakthrough for truck lovers. Alpine engineered their SWT-10S4 10" subwoofer to go behind your seat, and sound especially good in the limited space of a truck cab. This deep-sounding, high-performance sub works well in shallow enclosures that'll fit behind or under the seat in your truck. A "high amplitude" surround allows more cone travel than a regular sub, so the SWT-10S4 can push more air and play louder.

Airflow ensured

Subs get hot as they play, and the heat usually gets vented away via a port in the back of the sub's pole piece. Alpine recessed the pole port and added cooling air vents on the sides of the frame, allowing you to use an enclosure with an inside clearance of as little as 4-3/16" without blocking critical air flow. An SWT-10S4 will work well in either a ported or a sealed box, so you can get your favorite kind of bass tone, boomy or tight.

The power it takes

For top performance, you'll want to pick an amplifier that delivers between 300 and 500 watts RMS at 4 ohms. This single voice coil, 4-ohm sub will draw the maximum output power from a subwoofer amplifier when used along with a second SWT-10S4 in a system. If you're planning on running a pair, look for an amp that delivers between 600 and 1000 watts RMS at 2 ohms.

Features

HAMR Surround: The High-Amplitude Multi Roll (HAMR) Surround Design allows for extreme excursions without sacrificing valuable cone area.

Speaker Terminals: The spring post terminals will accommodate single banana plugs or bare wire up to 8-gauge.

Gasket Cover: Alpine uses a Concealed Mount Gasket System to cover the mounting screws for a clean look. The black rubber gasket ring comes already installed on the woofer and needs to be removed before drilling the mounting screws (not supplied). The gasket ring then snaps back into place once the woofer is mounted.

Q
Would this speaker fit in the liftgate of a 2013 Toyota sienna?
jackhammer  Sep 01, 2021
1 answer
A
The speaker I believe would be shallow enough to fit that application, but I feel it would be difficult to fabricate a box in that space, and I don't believe this speaker is made for free air applications so some sort of enclosure is nessesary. Depending on your level expertise in box building anything is possible. Best of luck with your build.

I have one SWT-10S4 in a custom sealed box under the seat of my son's Chevy Silverado, it is powered by a 600x1 alpine mono amp. It is getting a clean 300+ watts rms at 4 ohms and sounds good. If you are a bass head and you want to rattle your fillings in your teeth, you may want to add a second SWT-10S4, if you configure the wiring so your amp sees a 2 ohm load your speakers should enjoy around 600 watts rms at 2 ohms, if you want big bass and you have the room I would recommend 2 12" subs. Don't get me wrong the single 10" sounds good listening to most everything, but if you want to go hard at the stop light to impress the car next to you, you may be disappointed. If you are only concerned with your listening experience inside the cab, this woofer added a good amount of bass at everyday listening levels. Bass is tight and accurate with the sealed box, a ported box may provide a little more Boom if that is what you are looking for. Good luck with your build!

Q
I was thinking about removing the sub and putting my Type X. Would this box sound good or is there not enough cubic space?
carlos  Apr 03, 2019

A
This is just the subwoofer without a box. We carry subwoofer boxes. The advisors that you can reach by calling 1-800-324-9695 can help you find the smallest sub box we offer for your Type X subwoofer My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp/sub combo I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
Will 600 watts at 2 ohm be enough for 2 of these 10s?
elizabeth e  Feb 09, 2015
1 answer
A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: 600 watts RMS is a little less than they can handle, but it would still be within a safe power range for them. We recommend hitting at least 70% of the recommended RMS range, and 600 watts is well within that range. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
