Our take on the Alpine TUA-T020XM

by Robert Ferency-Viars

Want to hear what all the satellite radio buzz is about? Alpine's TUA-T020XM XM satellite radio tuner can be added to an XM-capable Alpine receiver to allow you to tune into satellite radio (antenna and subscription also required). Get over 100 channels of digital-quality music and entertainment from XM Satellite Radio for only $9.99 a month (plus a one-time $14.99 activation fee).

If you don't have an Alpine receiver, you can connect this tuner to any FM radio using Alpine's CRA-1667RF FM modulator/controller (optional). The tuner uses Alpine's AiNet protocol and has a pass-through connection for adding an Alpine CD changer. If you already have an Alpine CD changer, you'll be able to keep it in your system when you add the XM tuner.

Great tuner

Written By Ed, CT on Friday, January 07, 2011
This tuner was simple to install and works flawlessly. The most impressive feature is
the way it remembers all of my XM presets after my battery has been disconnected. My
head (Alpine CVA-1004) unit loses all AM/FM presets but when I switch input to XM they
are all there. It is so reliable I almost forget it is in the car. My head unit operates all
features as if the processing were part of it. I get full station information including artist
and song title. Sports scores display while listening to a broadcast. Traffic reports for
major metro areas show city as you browse. The broadcasts drop if I drive under
bridges or next to tall buildings. I suspect that problem occurs with all sat systems.
Awesome tuner! Too bad it is being discontinued.
