Use the Alpine TuneIt App to get your sound just right

Your sound, your way

The Alpine TuneIt App gives you the ability to fine-tune your car's sound. Just download the free app onto your iPhone or Android smartphone and create a profile including your car and sound system information. The app will help you your adjust the receiver's 9-band parametric EQ, frequency filters, Media Xpander, and other sound settings for your specific vehicle, or you can use the settings already created for your car in Alpine's ever-growing vehicle database. Better yet, you can check out settings that other users have created for your specific vehicle on Facebook.

If you're into bass, you can use Bass Engine SQ tuning to optimize your car's bass performance, and customize its five bass profiles with the TuneIt App. If you're planning on adding an amp or two to your system, the UTE-52BT features three sets of 2-volt preamp outputs, so you have plenty of options. You can then make further adjustments by updating the settings in your TuneIt App profile.

Everything you need

With the handy front USB port, you can plug in a flash drive that you've loaded up with music, or connect your iPod® or iPhone to listen to music. You can also connect a portable MP3 player or other sound source to the front auxiliary input.

The UTE-52BT works with SiriusXM's SXV300 tuner (sold separately), making it easy to tune into satellite radio's in-depth music, news, and entertainment  programming wherever you drive.

Want to keep your car's steering wheel audio controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

This digital media receiver will not play CDs. If you want to play CDs in your vehicle, we offer a wide selection of CD receivers.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check "Details" for compatibility information.

Upgraded from stock which was a heck of a leap forward considering it's a 2004 F250. Wanted Bluetooth, iPhone connectivity, and USB playback. Who really uses CD's anymore, right? Stereo sounds great, fit well. Crutchfield send the console kit, the tools to remove stock radio, and the proper harness for free!! I can't tell you how this receiver sounds without an amp. I added the ktp-445a amp during the install and change speakers out to Alpine 517's. Sounds great, substantial upgrade. I'm happy with the purchase, but considering my start point, it would be hard not to be happy with any upgrade.

Alpine quality has gone wayyyyyy downhill. Years ago the head units felt made of quality but now (maybe it's just this unit) it feels so cheap and plasticy. It doesn't even have a rubber volume knob anymore. It feels more like a Dual brand receiver more than an Alpine.

    Pros: Nothing really...

    Cons: Quality has gone downhill.

I've always really stuck with two things when buying my car audio equipment. One is Crutchfield and the other is Alpine. I've always liked both and had great experiences with them. This unit I'm sure is wonderful if the App actually worked. Not only is it really the only way you can properly access the systems EQ levels and other MX levels ext. but in the use of the App itself it has real antiquated operation platform. If you make a mistake you have to start all over again. I guess I could just never make a mistake and that would solve that one..... The accessing of the account, which I've now done, I walk through the "Tutorial" and done all the steps with no luck so far. The directions the unit comes with don't explain it well so what I'm stuck with is a poorly tuned unit

Pros: Bluetooth works great. I ran the mic next to my visor in the trim of the door/windsheild pointed at my face so when I scream at my bank they can clearly hear how much they suck. Hook up was a breeze Crutchfield's free wire harness and tool to pull out the unit is the best.

Cons: Accessing/Linking cell phone to "App", which seems it was developed in 1998, was not possible. At least so far

I have avoided Alpine since I bought one for my 2006 Subaru and discovered that even when "dimmed", the blue LED light was so bright as to interfere with my night vision. However, I returned to the brand when I started looking for a new stereo for my 1999 Miata (with Bose). The Miata has a amplifier *and* a powered antenna. Most brands now only provide a single power lead, labeled "Powered accessory". This is on at all times. Alpine still offers two leads: power acc and power ANT. Unfortunately, I made the assumption that the power ANT would only be powered when I was using the tuner function. That assumption is incorrect-it is always on. This behavior has been confirmed by Alpine tech support. Beyond that, the unit performs as expected. The sound is very good, even with my stock speakers. The Bluetooth pairing is easy and effective. The bluetooth calling is pretty poor, but I can't blame alpine for that, it's hard to make a speaker that works in the environment of a convertible. Would I buy it if I knew then what I know now? No. The display is still too bright at night and competing designs manage to take up less space behind the dash (something that would have been valuable in the MX-5). But I don't regret buying it and expect to be happy with it for years to come. Well, once I find the right smoked tint to tone down those blue buttons.

Pros: Good sound, clean packaging, easy to set up, bluetooth pairing with iOS is trivial

Cons: Power ANT lead not suitable for power extending antennas, potential for night vision interference

Alpine really has a winner with this one. The mic cord is plenty long enough to route up the A pillar and mount close to your head and gives great reception when speaking. The Stereo syncs quickly to the phone and works flawlessly.

Pros: Bluetooth remote mic and easy of setup

Cons: Would be nice to have the 4v preamp outputs on this stereo.

This stereo looks and sounds great! I sold my pioneer deh-x6700bt to my younger brother to save him some money with fixing up his car and was a perfect opportunity to upgrade. this was the best choice for me. I like all the adjustability that it has in the stereo and with the app. downside is that the app is not really working. other than that it is pretty good.

Pros: looks, sound, adjustability, amp that you can buy later that plugs into the stereo, app to tune the sound.

Cons: app doesn't really work, has 2 menus to adjust the sound, only one color for lighting

Overall I give this unit a 4.5. Using the install kit provided by Crutchfield made the install pretty easy. I did have to slightly modify the install kit brackets in order properly secure the unit, but not a big deal if you have a hacksaw and a drill. Unit fits nicely in the Suburban and has greatly improved the sound quality and the connectivity of my smartphone.

Pros: Great sound quality using factory speakers in a 2001 Suburban. Bluetooth, Pandora and ipod control are fairly easy Affordable and capable

Cons: Alpine unit blue lights are too bright (even when I use the manual dim feature) Too bad it can not be controlled with the dash board light dimmer. Sometimes connecting to pandora or ipod control can be a bit cumbersome, but I'm still learning the system.

This is a great little head unit, especially for the price. Sounds great and looks great, though I do wish you could change the display colors. I set out to find a moderately priced head unit that doesn't look like a Lego model and I believe this is the best fit for those requirements. The harness and dash kit Crutchfield included work great! I can finally enjoy music in my truck without using a disingenuous and terribly muffled cassette adapter! Would certainly recommend.

Pros: Looks great, sounds great, not too expensive, Bluetooth works very well

Cons: Can't change light colors, somewhat of a learning curve

First of all, the price was great for this unit for what it does. I wanted to upgrade the factory unit and most importantly, add hands free calling. The install was very easy with the included wiring harness, adapter and instructions except for routing the remote microphone cable. In a 2004 Grand Marquis the easiest route to the upper center of the windshield is up the passenger side A-Pillar. There is decent access above the glove compartment when it is open, but there was still a lot of knuckle busting and swearing before I actually got it through. The A-pillar cover is held on with clips and is easy to remove. Tucking the wire under the headliner and installing the clip/microphone to the overhead light console results in great call quality, even with the windows open. The manual is very clear on how to set the time on the unit, but nowhere could be found how to display the time. A call to tech support and the button that is to the left of the radio presets, marked with "-" allows you to toggle the time display on or off. Hello Alpine - add this to the manual... I have limited mechanical ability, but was able to accomplish this install in about an hour. Matching the colors up on the harness and crimping them to the radio took about another 15 minutes. Truly, plug and play. Overall I'm very pleased and will tackle the speakers next. Will not try the TuneIt App until the new speakers are in.

Pros: Ease of installation Excellent sound Easy bluetooth connection for music and handsfree phone calls

Cons: Manual omitted the way to display the time on the unit.

I replaced a ten year-old Alpine CDA-9857 with this unit. I've used Alpine exclusively in my vehicles since the 80's, so when I want to modernize I naturally went Alpine. This UTE-52BT has bee a great disappointment. The sound is below average, and the user interface makes the unit almost intolerable. The buttons are far too small, and during daylight hours, invisible. The switches feel cheap and flimsy, the longer ones flex so much that it is hard to get the switch to actuate. The power off switch is for some unknown reason combined with repeat, pause, and play (?) and no matter which function I want to select, another one seems to happen. The rotary encoder is far too easy to bump when trying to adjust volume, which disables its function as a volume control and makes you hit the setup button 7 times quickly to get back to volume. It says you can hold it in for 2 seconds to achieve the same goal, but I can't say that I've ever gotten that to work. The phone audio quality is just horrible, and I can't seem to convince it to answer a call no matter which button I push. It will hang up on the caller, though. The unit gives the impression that it was designed by someone with no idea that cars bump and shake and who has never actually tried to use a radio in a moving car.

Pros: Looks good Easy to install

Cons: Controls too small, too flimsy, too cluttered, too hard to read, impenetrable nested menus No effective way to cancel rotary encoder actions Requires far too much visual concentration to operate, taking attention away from driving Very poor phone audio quality. Unresponsive phone controls Muddy, stuffy, sound. Very poor spatial stage. Not up to Alpine standards Can't seem to locate song titles on USB stick Poorly written and badly organized user manual, nowhere to see all controls at on

Unit works just as advertised. There's a ton of flexibility with all of the tone controls, although there's a slight learning curve with figuring out how to access all the options. However, the instruction manual gives you everything you need to know. I installed this in my 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SE with no problems.

Pros: Great flexibility with sound, music quality is great, 6-channel RCA outputs

Cons: Adjustment knob feels pretty cheap (plastic) although this is a small complaint.

Have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler with Infinity system that has been a major disappointment since I've owned it. Debated forever on features I wanted and decided on this unit because it has everything I wanted (blue tooth, Pandora, hands free calling) without the fluff of other units. I haven't owned a cd in almost 10 years so the absence of a cd player is a major plus for me. One less thing to go wrong. After a super easy install, my jeep was rocking. I couldn't believe how awesome my stock speakers sounded and my factory sub came to life. I had to read the directions to figure out some of the set up instruction, but have it down now. Fairly easy to navigate the features and such after a little practice. As good as it sounds now, I can't wait to hear it blaring away thru some upgraded speakers. Why? Because there is always something better to be had :)

Pros: Price, sound quality, ease of install.

    Cons: None.

I give the radio top rating for quality and performance. I mounted it in a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser. Easy installation overall but the microphone clip is pretty useless. It is completely made of plastic and designed to clip on a sun visor. That aside, in hot weather the clip doesn't hold its springiness and basically doesn't grip the visor after a hot day. The problem is it's designed to be used for hands free calling but the safety issue is negated because the microphone and clip falls off the visor and directly into your view of the road and other cars. It is a safety issue, and a simple redesign using a metal spring instead of plastic would solve the issue of it falling in you face while driving. To keep it out of line of sight, I resorted to hanging it on the "A" pillar trim. While that semi solved the falling off issue, it now picks up wind noise if the window is down any at all. Granted this may be unique to my particular situation, it still needs addressing.

Pros: Very good radio overall and has many really good features for a radio of this price range. I recommend it highly.

Cons: The microphone clip is pretty useless.

I initially loved this unit but since I purchased it from Crutchfield back in March 2015 it has reset to factory defaults at least 6 times. I removed it from the dash and checked all electrical connections to ensure it wasn't losing power. The problem seems to be occur when bluetooth calls are received while streaming music over bluetooth. Once the call ends it resets to factory defaults and comes up in demo mode. It's a pain in the butt to reconfigure the audio settings over-and-over again each time a reset occurs. I checked Alpine's website but there isn't a firmware release that might fix the problem. In the process of searching I see that another Crutchfield customer has also encountered the same problem. See review titled "bluetooth randomly resets whole unit. happens 3-4 tmes" by paul s, dated April 13, 2015. If this problem were addressed it would be a 4-5 star product.

Pros: great features, excellent sound quality, easy to use

Cons: factory reset problem makes it difficult to enjoy using it

As expected from an Alpine product, this is an excellent receiver and media player. With 4 different inputs (BT, USB stick, iPod, aux in) to play your digital music files, this is a huge upgrade from my old Kenwood CD player. I can play just about anything from my Android phone or any passenger with an iPhone can play his/her music. There is ample power to the speakers in my truck with easy outputs to add an amp and the installation was a breeze with the Crutchfield diagrams.

Pros: - Multiple input modes - Great sound and power to speakers - BT connects easily to Android

Cons: - Setting up connections and menus are a bit clunky. (but there's only so much you can do with a single line output - No ability to change display colors - Don't forget to turn off DEMO mode!

This deck screams "discount retail", though it has an amazing equalizer and the tuneit app is really cool. It seems like they traded that for an almost decent display. I'm alright with the 90s style alarm clock font - 90s style baby! I've had Alpines in the past and was very happy with the display, but this one is so insanely bright at night that it's almost dangerously distracting. On my dashboard it sits below the heater controls in front of the floor shift, really low and set back in the dash compared to where it would be in most trucks, yet it's still bright enough to reflect brightly across the windshield at night. I have a friend with glasses who said it would be way too annoying to drive with at night, especially on dark two lane roads with oncoming headlights. There IS a dimmer wire that could be connected, but a lot of cars don't even have an independent dimmer wire in the dash to connect it to. My old Alpines both had the dimmer on the display as an option, and weren't this bright to begin with, so I took the option for granted picking it out. It CAN be seen during the day! The equalizer with subwoofers is really cool, but if you have any type of difficulty driving at night, even remotely, do yourself a favor and avoid this one.

Pros: The equalizer options and tuneit app are really cool if you have subwoofers!

Cons: The display is dangerously bright at night.

I've been a fan of Alpine since the 1980's and as always this is another excellent product. It has high quality sound and enough power to rank with the best head units on the market even with the addition of an auxiliary amp. It has enough bells and whistles (i.e., Bluetooth, 3.5mm input jack, SirusXM option, Pandora, etc.) to provide a even the biggest audiophile enthusiast with a smile. Additionally, the unit has 3 pre-amp out which make it easy to add additional power.

Pros: Quality build, High quality sound, High Power wand Low Distortion, easy installation, Bluetoot, SiriusXM option, 3/5mm input jack

I have been along time fan of alpine and this receiver is exactly why. Alpine has built a top notch Bluetooth and digital audio receiver. I put this receiver in my sons truck since all of his music comes either a pandora or Amazon music app from his iPhone 6 ( I don't think he even knows what a CD is). It sounds great through his stock 1996 speakers and also his pioneer slim sub. Installation was a breeze thanks to Crutchfield. The alpine menu is easy to set up and navigate. If you are looking for a hands free Bluetooth to talk on the phone this is just ok, you would be better off buying one of those stupid ear pieces to cram in your ear. If you are looking for a digital input music receiver this is the one to get.

Pros: Digital receiver Low pass filter High pass filter Menu

Cons: Talking on your phone through the Bluetooth

I bought this after being a Pioneer guy for the last 15 years. My main draw was the 9 band Parametric EQ which offers plenty of control. It also has plenty of other features that let me Taylor the sound output. I would like to see some more work on refinement to the unit however. I can't believe it's 2015 and we are still stuck with calculator like displays. The display doesn't even allow for viewing the time and station, it's one or the other. There's actually room for more to be displayed if the font size was a bit smaller and they used more areas of the display. Overall though I bought this unit more for what it does. I just wish they would put a little more into the polish of the unit.

Pros: Tons of Audio Control --9 Band Parametric EQ --No tacky features ie: flashing backlighting --Tune it App is a great feature --Higher rms power than most

Cons: --Buttons too close to one another and small --Volume Knob not linear: trying to turn the volume down quickly results in it not moving much at all. --Buttons have a cheaply clunky feel when using. --Custom tune disappears after selecting a stock one and then trying to go back to custom(need to connect to tune it app again and STOP CAR in order to get it back-annoying). --Screen technology hasn't changed since 1990 --Limited info on screen. Font size and space could be utilized better.

So far so good. Just installed about a week ago and going strong. Love the unit for its simplicity and usage. Installed in a VW Beetle and that was a challenge but overall very easy to use and great quality, as usual, from Alpine.

Pros: Easy to use, high quality, and superb sound.

    Cons: none

This receiver is a nightmare to operate unless your the passenger and can devote all your attention looking through a magnifying lens at which button to press. The control buttons are so hard to read! I bought the unit to install in my wife's Subaru. She did not like it and wanted her receiver reinstalled even though the cd was broke. So I did and put in Ranger and now I don't like it. Since the 60 day return warranty is up I will need to take my eyes off the road for many seconds to change a setting.

    Pros: sounds good

Build Quality I gave it 2 star because buttons are to close together, I'm old school and I think they should of kept the green lights on all alpine's to with 2-3 colors at least.

Pros: No dimmer what's going on with tech stuff? it don't cost like nothing to put a Dimmer in all radios because most of the radios are really to bright! you should make them as you like your dash lights- that's one thing I upgraded to another radio because of the features this Alpine had been lacking, the sound is great I'll give them that.

Cons: ( bass and sound settings have 2 buttons you have to go through), sent it back had trouble with it not putting out enough single to amp for the Kicker sub DVC very low but not blaming Alpine could be the harness for the car just could not figure it out so everything is coming new to see what's going on with it should had nothing to do from the output of the RCA out of the radio and have harness trouble weird, ??

on top of the price this unit is impressive on multiple levels from the ease of installation through the massive list of functions to the outstanding quality of the sound (I installed a small powered sub but it would stand well on its own. it has plenty enough power to fill my suv. i have not yet installed the speaker upgrades and the sound improvement is already astronomical. the user instruction could be a bit more clear though it is fairly intuitive after spending some time with it. the 9band parametric EQ is a godsend for fine tuning the sound although it sounded great before having touched it. the buttons are small and difficult to use while driving. however the inclusion of a steering wheel control adaptor voided this problem. having steering wheel controls I would recommend the adaptor in order to retain those controls. and being all digital I have cleared space not having cd's everywhere.

Pros: loads of features. minimum price. all digital. extremely easy to install. outstanding sound quality. once you learn the functions it is easy to navigate

Cons: without steering wheel controls the buttons are far too small to use while driving. instructions could be better written and more in depth (if you are not tech savvy, you may need a teen)

Lots of equipment for the price with typical great Alpine quality. I don't use BT so no thoughts there but installs easily, has good sound and fantastic range of features. It focuses on quality sound and not on pretty (gaudy) light displays. Doesn't play CD's but CD's are almost ancient history anyway. Radio has good reception. My system is in an 02 Ford Ranger Regular Cab and it is: 4-Polk DXi571 5X7 coaxial speakers in stock locations, Sound Ordnance B-8PTD Powered Sub: (8" woofer with 125W RMS class D amp), Alpine UTE-52BT Media Player/Receiver Head Unit, Alpine KTP-445A Amp (45W RMS X 4), Dynamat in doors and on back wall of cab. This setup sounds better than great to my 61 year old ears...will never win a competition but I don't get that anyway. The sub especially adds that low end that the Polks struggle with at lower volume listening. Might add a pair of Polk tweeters to the A-pillar in the future just to raise the soundstage from the floor but the 6X9's are very good at mid to high range by themselves.

Pros: Total control of music tonal quality. Subwoofer controls are outstanding. The add-on plug and play amp is a must have addition (KTP445A). Display has two step adjustability. If what you want is a machine that plays flash drive, IPod, Pandora, has Bluetooth, and totally provides control over sound quality this is your machine.

Cons: Buttons are small and too close together...volume knob also is push selector and it's too easy to push instead of rotate. Limited text display which is inexcusable but not a deal breaker. Menu tree is a bit convoluted so it takes some playing with to get used to...this is an Alpine thing.

Having just purchased less than a month ago, I might have to replace it. I'm having an issue with the the BT feature. Randomly after a call, the unit will freeze and power off, back on, and everything on the radio gets reset. I tried twice to repeat the problem and twice succeeded.

I really like this player. It replaced an eight year old Alpine that worked great up until recently. Manually accessing and navigating the sub menu hasn't gotten any easier but the Tuneit app is really cool as long as you know that you have to turn on the GPS function in your phone to make it work. Strange requirement I know... But the whole not having to screw with cd's since you have a butt-load of tunes on a flash drive or phone is really cool. It's like listening to a radio station that plays everything you like without the blahbity blah. It's a pretty nice unit for the price if you're not looking for anything fancy.

Pros: Easy to install, and it sounds awesome.

Cons: Navigating the sub menu is a pain and the Tuneit app has that weird GPS requirement that I mentioned before. The app also disconnects a lot since it "senses the vehicle being in motion" while it's sitting still. The other thing I noticed was that the detachable faceplate didn't seem quite as... sturdy as the one on my old deck and it makes me wonder if that's going to be a problem somewhere down the road.

Most all my units are Alpine so the interface is more familiar to me. The unit installed easy, looks and sounds great and was easy to install.

Pros: Easy to use controls. Great sound and features. With the front Aux port, USB access as well as blue-tooth and mobile phone it has all the bases covered. I also added an Alpine amp to my sub-woofer and it sounds great.

Cons: I have always been happy with Alpine units so I am partial to them. I really see no Cons to this unit.

This stereo sounds excellent and the bluetooth phone/audio quality is also great. My only complaint is that I wish there was an option to dim the illumination as it is much brighter than the rest of my dash lighting. I found the settings to be pretty easy to navigate so long as the tune ti app is used for the 9 band eq settings, the eq allows for a lot of adjustment which is not easily seen/adjusted through the stereo display but very easy through my android phone. All in all this unit is a great value at this price point with phenomenal sound.

Pros: Sound quality, bluetooth phone quality, bluetooth music quality, ease of use, price point, free tune it app makes adjusting versatile eq simple

Cons: Illumination is too bright for my liking with no was to adjust, occasionally artist/track display will get stuck when should be scrolling

Great reciever, very easy to use. The menus are fairly intuitive and the tuneit app makes tuning the sound a breeze this paired with the alpine plug and play amp makes for a nice sound system

    Pros: Easy menus, simple tuning

Cons: the manual is written poorly it was easier for me to play with the radio until I figured it out then to read the manual.

This unit is easy to use and has a great display. The sound EQ app is a mixed bag (depends on other users to share their settings) but it works. I just use it to make my own EQ adjustments. Bluetooth easy to use and external mic picks up my voice well according to my callers. Qualifies for free install harness & mount. This is my 2nd one I have purchased. Source button easy to find. Even my wife can use it.

Pros: Ease of use & set

Cons: 1)Display color not selectable 2) Demo mode must be turned off at initial power up or its a pain to find in the sub menu setup
