Stream music, talk hands-free

The CDE-W235BT lets you keep your hands on the wheel when a call comes in, and ensures you and your caller make a clear connection. Once you mount the included microphone in a good spot, you can adjust the mic's gain to best match your speaking voice. You can also tweak the phone output and ring volume ahead of time, so you won't go diving for the volume knob every time someone calls.

When a call comes in, you'll see your caller's name and phone number on the two-line display. You can answer the call by tapping the phone button on the front panel, or set up the receiver to answer all calls automatically. You can see some useful phone info on the screen, too, like a signal strength indicator and even an alert when a text message comes in.

Don't forget your iPhone

Your iPhone is the key to a seemingly never-ending supply of music. First, you can dive into all the tunes in your iTunes® library using the CDE-W235BT's controls. You can also play the audio from several popular Internet radio apps, meaning you'll never run out of music, no matter how long your journey may be.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Auto Dimmer: This unit is equipped with an illumination lead; when the unit's dimmer mode is set to Auto and the illumination lead is connected to your vehicle's headlight circuit, the display and button illumination will dim to a fixed, preset level whenever the headlights are turned on. If preferred, you may choose the Manual dimmer mode setting, so the display and button illumination is dim at all times.

Demo Mode: This unit has a demonstration feature for its display which can be turned On or Off in the menu.

2-DIN Chassis: The Alpine CDE-W235BT has a 2-DIN chassis (also known as Double DIN), and will fit in many vehicles with a large dash opening. MP3/WMA Playback: This unit can play CD-R and CD-RW discs containing MP3/WMA audio files recorded using the ISO 9660 Level 1 or Level 2 formats. MP3 files with bit rates from 8-320 kbps are supported; WMA files with bit rates from 32-192 kbps are supported. Up to a maximum of 255 folders & a maximum 510 files can be read from one disc. ID3 tags (v1/v2) and WMA tags are supported; track title, artist name, and album name can be displayed.

Note: The head unit does not support AAC file playback.

Text/File/Folder Quick Search: When you are playing a disc with CD Text or ID3/WMA tags, you can easily search for a track, file, or folder by its title. Once you have activated the search mode, you can use the rotary encoder to quickly scan through the titles to locate the desired track. Built-in Bluetooth

Bluetooth Plus (powered by Parrot): The Alpine CDE-W235BT features built-in Bluetooth technology (v3.0), powered by Parrot. Parrot is the global leader in wireless devices for mobile phones, for expanded compatibility for many Bluetooth wireless technology enabled cell phones. The head unit's built-in Bluetooth allows you to make and receive phone calls wirelessly through the receiver; as well as stream music wirelessly from your smartphone to the head unit.

Bluetooth Profiles: In order to use Bluetooth wireless technology, your phone must also be Bluetooth compatible and be able to interpret certain profiles. This unit is compatible with the following Bluetooth Profiles:

    • Hands-Free Communication: HFP (Hands Free Profile), HSP (Head Set Profile), OPP (Object Push Profile), PBAB (Phone Book Access Profile).
    • Audio Streaming: A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

Pairing: The Alpine CDE-W235BT can be paired to up to three Bluetooth enabled mobile devices (only one device can be used at a time). Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the Alpine CDE-W235BT. Parrot software updates provide support for future phones.

External Microphone with Noise Cancellation: The included external microphone (with visor-clip) allows you to speak to the other party on the telephone call hands-free, while the other party's voice is played through your car stereo speakers. The external microphone is tuned and engineered to reduce noise interference and feedback. This allows optimal placement in your car, for the best possible sound quality. You can adjust the microphone's volume level; and even mute the microphone, so your voice will not be heard by the caller. The external microphone measures 0.5625" (diameter) x 1.625" (deep); and features an attached 13' cable terminated by a right-angle male 3.5mm connector.

Receiving Calls: The Alpine CDE-W235BT provides a couple ways to answer your phone calls without picking up your mobile phone. Incoming calls are announced by a caller ring tone through your vehicle's speakers (music will be muted) & a Caller ID message across your Alpine head unit's display.

    • Manual Answer: Manually answer an incoming call by pressing the "Phone" button on your Alpine head unit.
    • Automatic Answer: Set the Alpine head unit to answer the incoming call automatically; when a call is received, it is answered automatically after approximately 5 seconds.
    • Call Waiting: If a second call is received during a current call, you can have the first caller wait momentarily while you take the second call. When you are finished with one call, you can switch to the other.

Placing Calls: The Alpine CDE-W235BT provides a variety of functions for placing a phone call without using your mobile phone. The Alpine CDE-W235BT features full phone book access, call history, voice tag dialing, and redial with compatible phones.

Text Message Alert: The CDE-W235BT can give you a notification on the display with a blinking mail icon indicator for 30 seconds while receiving a text message on your Bluetooth-enabled phone. The mail icon indicator will remain on if there is an unread message on a connected mobile phone. You must still read or create a text message from your mobile smartphone.

Audio Streaming: The Alpine CDE-W235BT can stream music from you Bluetooth A2DP/AVRCP mobile device. Not only can it control & stream your music through Bluetooth, it can process your music using its built-in DSP Sound Expansion to ensure you get the best sound. The CDE-W235BT also supports audio streaming of music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, but without control or metadata. You will continue to use your Bluetooth enabled smartphone to view and control streaming music apps. When an incoming call or outgoing call is in progress from your Bluetooth enabled mobile phone, audio streaming will be paused so you can take your call. Once the call is finished, your streaming music will resume.

Note: Bluetooth Firmware Update v01.27.00 is required for Bluetooth control and song information display from an Apple iOS 6.0+ device.

Per the research we have on file for the Alpine CDE-W235BT, this unit will only recognize up to 100 folders and 100 files per folder from a connected USB thumbdrive. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=159

The ability to retain steering wheel controls with aftermarket receivers will be determined by the receiver you are using and the vehicle you have. For full information on this type of integration (including the parts you will need) please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

I have a 2011 F150 with sync, if I purchase this unit and the adapter to run the factory steering controls, will it still support the sync functions? For instance pushing the phone button and giving the command to call someone....

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: You will need to use the PAC MS-FRD1 Ford Sync Radio Replacement interface (item # 541MSFRD1) in order to retain the sync functionality of your vehicle. In addition the PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Radio Control Interface (item # 541SWIRC) will be needed to keep the steering wheel controls. When used together you can control the Sync via the steering wheel controls. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Jeff, do you know if the firmware in the units you would sell today is the newest? The reason I need to know is because like the instructions from Alpine say that if you have problems, you could damage the unit. Unfortunately, that was my experience. I want to replace it, but not if I have to update the firmware.

Can the display intensity be adjusted / dimmed?
    leoc4  Apr 20, 2014
    2 answers
    A
Because my installation was in an older vehicle (99 montero), I choose not to activate dimmer fuction, because it could cause reverse polarity and short (and I did experience the problem). I taped the dimmer wire. This problem is not unique the CDE-W235BT it happens on others as well. I liked unit, especially the blue tooth. I also installed the same radio in my daughters 2000 siena van.
    joseph  Apr 21, 2014

There is a illumination wire on harness that is conected to car light wire on vehicle so brightness can be controlled by vehicle dimmer switch.

*** This has been tested on an iOS 4.2.1 Device *** If you want to play the "acc" files directly though a USB device, or Disc the "acc" files will not play. If you plan to attach your iOS device to the unit with an iOS to USB cable, the iOS device will decode the "acc" files and play them on the unit. There are also a number of functions on the unit to control the iOS device, much like the iOS device itself. I've only tested this with an older version iOS 4.2.1 device, any device after 10/12/11 with iOS 5.0.0 has not been tested.

what is ESC on the Alpine radio and how does it work???
    nikki  Apr 04, 2014
    2 answers
    A
Larry, I believe the ESC button stands for 'escape'. Whatever mode you are in, ie; time set, fader, etc, by hitting the escape key it allows you to 'start over'. It will return to your original screen for a 'do over'. The ESC key also acts as a 'hang-up' to terminate a phone call. I hope this helps you some. This is how I have been using the ESC key. Good Luck, Brian R
    brian  Apr 05, 2014

As far as I can tell, it serves mostly as a back button. Most notably when when searching through files or setting up your bluetooth settings. Holding the ESC button for an extended period will take you back to the home screen. Hope this helps.

Personally, I mostly use my unit in AUX mode for my Sirius Satellite and in USB mode to control my iPad. I've also started using a bit of the BT AUX mode to listen to music on my iPhone. Lots of options, and the User Interface is well thought out and ez to use unlike some other units I've used.
