Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) lets you play HDTV on the road

Want to play high-definition content from your mobile device and watch it on a larger, higher-resolution screen? Soundstream's HDM-A3 interface cable makes that dream a reality for owners of Galaxy S III phones and many other Android devices. This 5-foot cable enables you to play 1080p video and 8-channel audio from an MHL-enabled device, like your smartphone, to a multimedia player with an HDMI/MHL input.

Charges your phone while you play a video

The MHL interface uses HDMI and USB plugs, along with some new technology, to send crystal-clear uncompressed digital video and audio through a single cable to deliver truly outstanding pictures and sound. The HDM-A3 cable also charges the battery of your portable device, so it's always ready to rock.

Product Highlights:

  • 5-foot audio/video interface cable
  • connects Galaxy S III phones and other select Android devices to multi-media players with HDMI/MHL inputs
  • supports 1080p playback
  • charges mobile device battery
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Features

Micro-USB 11-Pin to HDMI/USB Cable: The Soundstream HDM-A3 is a micro-USB 11-pin to HDMI/USB cable which allows you to connect select Android smartphone devices (such as the Galaxy S III) to your home and car audio/video components equipped with an HDMI input and USB type-A port. Through its full-size HDMI connector, the  HDM-A3 cable supports 1080p video and 2ch audio. The HDM-A3 will also charge your Android smartphone via its USB type-A connector. Because the USB connector pig-tails from the HDMI connector, your home or car audio component's HDMI and USB input must be less than 3" apart. The total length of the cable is 5'.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Intermittently work half of the time. Have to jiggle cord occasionally for it to work

Pros: Works sometimes

Cons: Doesn't always work

Crutchfield response on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 Our tech support team contacted the customer to look into this issue. They determined that the problem was probably a faulty cable, so we promptly sent him a replacement.

This may work but i just realized it takes up the only USB on the 8901HD. And once the Soundstream cord is installed it pretty much renders the USB port useless for anything else, including firmware updates without having to pull the head unit out every time even to connect a portable USB drive [ Andrew  May 27, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Soundstream HDM-A3 can be used with both the Kenwood DDX8901HD and DNX891HD receivers. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  May 27, 2014 ]  Staff
