Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The displayed data is limited. Can't display Time left and Arrival time at the same time. Can't display Speed and Time of Day at the same time. Can't create a Favorite by inputting the GPS Coordinates a real bummer. Not a lot of configure options. It does see Sats well even in my garage it got them all. The time to Sat acquire is pretty fast . I guess I've been spoiled by my TomTom.

Pros: Good Sat acquisition. Bright and clear.Easy install.

Cons: Not enough configuration options. Limited data on screen at a time. Can't create a Favorite by entering GPS Coordinates.

Soundstream Navibox - 2

Written by: Nelson from Bronx, New York. on August 13, 2013

Don't know which was worst the Navi or the radio it's self. As far as I am concern, they both .... SUCK. Don't waste your time and money. I took Crutchfield advice of purchasing the radio soundstream VR-931NB D.V.D. receiver along with the soundstream Navibox -2 and like I said before, they both ... SUCK. Nothing but problems. Sent them both back and received another set and ... AGAIN ... nothing but problems. Sent that that set back for a full refund. I guess they were trying to get rid of the units that were NO good. I should have done my home work instead of going by what Crutchfield had told me. Can't trust anybody.

Pros: .... NONE ....

Cons: Read above.

Overview: The Inteq Navibox-2 is an add-on GPS navigation module for the Soundstream VR-931NB (530VR931NB, sold separately). The Navibox-2's built-in mapping software will be displayed on the Soundstream VR-931NB's LCD touchscreen monitor. You will also be able to control the add-on navigation module from Soundstream VR-931NB's touchscreen monitor.

NAVTEQ Mapping Software: The Navibox-2 add-on navigation module is powered by NAVTEQ with maps of the United States and Canada. It offers over 12 million points-of-interests with turn-by-turn navigation. All of its mapping data is stored on the included 4GB SD memory card.

GPS Antenna: The Inteq Navibox-2 features an external GPS antenna. The antenna features a 20.5' cable and a magnetic base. The preferred antenna location, free from obstruction) is on the top of the vehicle (roof or trunk area). When placed on the dashboard of a vehicle, performance may be reduced due to obstruction caused by the vehicle's windshield or roof. The antenna measures 1.5625" wide x 0.625" tall x 1.9375" deep.

2D & 3D Map Views: The add-on navigation unit allows you to view its on-screen map in a 2D (two-dimensional) or 3D (three-dimensional) view. Similar to paper road maps, the 2D mode, shows you streets, roads, and elevation by color. In 3D mode, you can see the altitude and elevations differences. You can distinguish between valleys, mountains, and elevated roads. In selected cities 3D landmarks and 3D buildings are also displayed.

Color Mode: The navigation map screen uses different color themes (Day/Night) during the day and during the night for both the map and the menu screen. Daytime colors are similar to paper road maps, and the menus are bright. The night color themes use dark colors for large objects to keep the average brightness of the screen low. You can also set the navigation unit to switch between daytime and night color modes automatically based on the current time and GPS position.

TTS (Text-to-Speech) Voice Guidance: The Inteq Navibox-2 offers TTS (text-to-speech) voice guidance for most major highways. You can choose between English, Spanish or French (male or female).

Destination Search: You can select your destination by entering an address or selecting a place-of-interest (POI), a location on the map, or one of your Favorite destinations. You can also look up your recent destinations.

Destination Search Description
Find on Map Search for a destination by scrolling the map display.
Home or Office Store and easily recall your home or office address.
Find Address Enter full/partial address, search by city (central location), search by zip code, or search by intersection.
Find Places Search for over 12,000,000 points-of-interest (POIs) by name, or category; search near your current location, in a specific city, along your current route, or near your destination.

Recent History Destinations that you have set previously

Route Calculation: The add-on navigation system calculates the route based on your preferences. You can choose from the following:

  • Route Method: You can choose between the Shortest Time or Shortest Distance.
  • Avoidances: You can tell the navigation unit to avoid Tolls and Freeways along your route.

Summary Screen: The Summary screen indicates the distance to your destination, estimated time of your arrival, and the estimated time it will take to complete your trip.

Detour: This screen contains quick detour possibilities during navigation so you can bypass a part of the route.

Automatic Route Recalculation: The unit will automatically recalculate your route if you stray from the navigation unit's previously calculated route.

Eric, I've not updated the maps yet, I need to do some research on it. [ JOSEPH  Feb 27, 2015 ]
I have not done that yet so am unsure. [ JOHN  Feb 27, 2015 ]
I never updated...between the Knob on the SoundStream and the weak Nav software I shelved it and bought a Jenson VX7020 with built in Nav System then added Sirius Radio. It's a much more user friendly unit. I have learned that the cheapest isn't always the least expensive. Dick [ Dick  Feb 27, 2015 ]
