Features

Overview: The Soundstream Stealth-series amplifiers pack a powerful punch from a small chassis. This mono block, Class D amplifier can drive a subwoofer or two, without taking up a lot of space.

Power Output: The ST1.700D micro-mini amp delivers 300 watts at 4 ohms, and 450 watts at 2 ohms, from its single output channel.

High/Low Level Input: The amp includes plug-in harnesses for both high-level and low-level inputs. Speaker wires from the source unit can be spliced onto the supplied high-level input harness. If you're using the preamp outputs from the source unit, you can plug in your RCA cable into the low-level input harness. Both harnesses have a 5-pin Molex connector that plugs into the amp's Hi/Lo Input.

Note: If you're using the high-level input, you do not need to run a remote turn-on lead. The amplifier will automatically turn on when it senses an input signal.

LEDs: The amp features two LEDs to indicate the status of the amplifier. The green LED will glow when the power to the amplifier is on. When the red LED glows, the amplifier's protection circuitry is engaged, shutting down the amp.

Protection Circuitry: The protection circuitry will shut down the amplifier for the following conditions:

  • Overheating: Thermal protection can be caused by too low of an impedance or inadequate air flow around the amplifier.
  • Over-/Under-Voltage: The amp will shut down if the voltage to the amp is not within 10 to 16.8 Volts DC range.
  • Short Circuit: When speaker wires become shorted to each other or to the vehicle chassis, the amplifier will shut down.
Controls

Gain: The ST1.700D's rotary gain control lets you match the amp's input sensitivity to the output of the source unit. The input sensitivity range of the amplifier is continuously variable between 0.5V and 12V. A small screwdriver (not included) is required to set the gain.

Low Pass: The amp features a 12 dB/octave low pass filter that is constantly engaged. The cutoff frequency can be set between 35Hz and 250Hz using the rotary control.

Sub Sonic Filter: The Sub Sonic filter removes ultra-low frequencies that cannot be reproduced by most subwoofers. These frequencies do not become sound, but unnecessary oscillations which affect sound by causing distortion. These frequencies also waste amplifier power and can cause damage to speakers. The filter's crossover point is variable from 10 to 50 Hz. (No slope is given for the Sub Sonic filter.)

Bass Boost: The Bass Boost enhances the low frequency response of the amplifier. You can dial in up to +12dB of boost, centered at 45 Hz, using the rotary control.

Connections

Molex Connections: The Soundstream ST1.700D uses compact Molex connectors which plug into the amplifier for the amp's input, speaker output, and power/ground/remote turn-on connections.

Power: The Power/Ground/Remote harness contains two 16-gauge red +12V power wires. These should both be spliced to your power wire (not included) which runs from the amp to your battery. You should use at least a 10-gauge power wire to the battery, with an in-line 30A fuse no more than 18" from the battery terminal.

Ground: Like the power wires, there are two 16-gauge black ground wires. Both should be spliced to a larger gauge ground wire (not included) and attached to a metal area close to the amplifier. The ground wire should be the same gauge as the power wire.

Remote Turn-On: The blue wire in the harness is for the amplifier's remote turn-on circuit. This should be spliced to a remote wire (18-gauge typically) that runs to the source unit. This connection is not needed if you are connecting the amplifier to the source unit via a high-level input.

High-Level Input: If you're connecting the amplifier to a factory head unit, or a unit that does not have preamp outputs, you should use the amp's high-level input. Splice two of the source unit's speaker wires to the High-Level Input harness and plug it into the amp's Molex connector.

Low-Level Input: The amp's Low-Level input harness has two female RCA connectors that will accept the plugs of an RCA patch cable from the head unit. The other end plugs into the amp's Molex connector.

Speaker Outputs: The amp features a speaker output harness with connections for up to 2 speakers (or one speaker with dual voice coils). You can use one pair (+ and -) if you only have one speaker to connect, and tape off the other pair to prevent short circuiting. The amplifier will accept a load with an impedance of no less than 2 ohms.

Remote Bass Boost Control: The amp is equipped with a 3.5mm connection for the supplied Remote Bass Boost Control. The remote module can be mounted under the dash or another location near the driver's seat. A 16-1/2' cable connects the module to the amplifier. The Remote Bass Boost Control can adjust the speaker output between 0dB and 18dB.

Q
Would this be a good amp for 2 Mtx Terminators?

I doubt it. It wasn't even a good amp for one 6.5" woofer. This unit was a huge disappointment.

No!! When I first installed the amp it worked great for 6 months and then died and I had it running 1 12". I've since got a JBL Mono sub that sounds a lot better and had no problem with.

I wouldn't think so. I have it powering a single sealed 8" sub. I think it's plenty for that but I wouldn't expect it to handle very much more.

Q
If I purchase this amp, what wiring kit would be best suited for this and one sub. Also, can I hook up a pair of speakers with tweeters along with the sub or is that not a necessary thing?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Soundstream ST1-700D amplifier is a mono amplifier. It is only designed to power subwoofers (as they are mono). The EFX 10-gauge amplifier wiring kit would be a great choice for deliver an input signal, power, and ground. If you need to connect speakers as well, he'll need to purchase a different amplifier. Q
I'm looking to add to my factory head unit and thus use the high level inputs. Is this amp capable of not needing the remote turn on wire and instead sensing / using the signal from the high level inputs to turn on? Thank you in advance.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The amp has auto-turn-on capability via high input signal, so yep. Make sure they don't skimp on amp wiring. I recommend 575RFK10. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
