About the Soundstream VDVD-165

Ken Nail

Add video to your vehicle

If you want to add video capabilities to your vehicle, you've got a couple of choices. You could change the stock receiver to a DVD or multimedia receiver, or you can add a stand-alone DVD player like the Soundstream VDVD-165 to your existing aftermarket car stereo. Each route has its own advantages, but in many cases you may prefer to go with a stand-alone player — for example, it's a great choice if you're putting a system into an RV.

Each route has its own advantages, but in many cases you may prefer to go with a stand-alone player — for example, it's a great choice if you're putting a system into an RV.

Soundstream VDVD-165

You can mount the VDVD-165 in the dash or use the included brackets for other locations.

Just what you need

Soundstream designed the VDVD-165 as a video jack-of-all-trades. Just add a screen and an amp and this player is ready to go as the heart of your vehicle's A/V system — and at a very attractive price, too. You can mount this Soundstream in the single-DIN (2" tall) opening in your dash above or below your aftermarket radio, so it can deliver the DVD signal to your rear screens. Or you can use the supplied brackets to mount it on a variety of flat surfaces, wherever you've got space in your vehicle.

The player comes with a remote control and an IR repeater, so you can take charge of the system when you're out of line of sight. In addition to the front DVD slot, you'll find a convenient USB input. So if you're not watching a movie, you can check out vacation photos or listen to MP3 music files.

Note: The Soundstream VDVD-165 is not designed to replace your factory DVD player.

    Q
Can this fit in place of the lower console cassette player in a 2002 suburban? The dimensions look like it's possible. (Plus I'm pretty crafty)
    barry  Aug 11, 2022
    1 answer
    A
Greetings Crafty Barry, and thank you for your question. Back in 2002 when we have the Suburban in here, we did not look at the cassette player. Most common replacements parts are the stereo and the speakers. That we will take the time. Now its kind of too late to get the vehicle back in to measure it. Best I can say is, if you cant get it in, we have the 60 return policy.

Can this be Used as a portable cd player? Plugged into usb on 2020 four runner . My audio options are slim with this vehicle it seems
    harley  Feb 14, 2021
    1 answer
    A
This is not a portable CD player. At the time of this post, we do not offer a portable CD player. This player can work in your 4Runner if it has an aux audio input. Those are typically 3.5mm or 1/8" in size and would need a cable like this to be installed: https://www.crutchfield.com/g_344750/3-5mm-Audio-Cables.html?tp=35005#&nvpair=FFType|Mini%20to%20RCA

Will it fit in the factory slot for 05 suburban overhead DVD system?
    woodie  Dec 26, 2018
    2 answers
    A
Hey Woodie. We don't measure the opening of the factory slot for the DVD. It is a single din chassis so it should be roughly 7" wide by 2" tall. Additionally the outputs on the Alpine DVD are RCA which will only work with an aftermarket monitor - not the factory ones. If you have any other questions about upgrading the DVD system in that Suburban you can chat with or call one of our Product Advisors here: https://bit.ly/2QNxGQB --Cosmo

We have this Dvd player mounted in our boat, the visual is sent to a TV, and the sound goes through an amp and then inset speakers on the wall. We cannot figure out how to control the sound. The Dvd player remote does not have volume control button and neither does the amp. The amp is a MTX Thunder8302. What are the suggestions on how to control the audio?

Have not yet tested or installed unit. Perhaps unit has a voltage out setting, which would control the output signal. If not, it's possible to dampen it with in-line devices that drop the signal voltage. I thought the unit was pre-amp out only... however, if it's line level (amplified) out, you must connect to pre-amp out instead.

Not sure. I would not buy this product. I have had one in my charter bus for less than a year and am going to have to buy a 30.00 local one to replace it because it will not suck in the DVD. I sent the one I ordered for a second bus back because it did not work correctly out of the box. Got a local one on that bus 30.00. Still working. Hope this is helpful.
