Bring on the show

Soundstream's VR-701 DVD receiver offers sleek control over your USB, and DVD media on its large 7" motorized, retractable flip-out display. Using a single-DIN (2" tall) chassis, this affordable multimedia stereo fits in a large number of vehicles. And when it's not entertaining you and your posse, you can detach the front panel to protect against theft.

Play what you have

The VR-701 can handle MP3 music and MP4 video from your CDs, DVDs, and your USB thumb drive, so bring them all to the party. The brilliant touchscreen display lets you quickly control your music and video, and see who's playing at a glance.

Soundstream's SmartControl™ provides basic playback controls over your portable media player or smartphone. Connect the headphone output on your player to the receiver's front auxiliary input, and you can play, pause, or skip tracks.

Added extras

You can tweak your music with the five EQ presets and the treble and bass controls. With the five preamp outputs, you can add additional amps to power your speakers and your subwoofer. You can even control the level of your sub amp's output directly from the touchscreen's controls.

Use the front audio/video input to hook up your favorite game console or another video source. This receiver boasts a video output to send movies to a rear video screen, so your back seat remains tranquil.

Nice Unit for the Money but there is one thing

Installed into 1999 Expedition with the MACH sound system. Great that I was able to use the factory sub woofer!. Of course no more 6-disc changer, so that was removed for additional video -related components now that the car has the VR-701 video receiver.

Pros: Nice looking screen. Works well for video playback, and rear-camera viewing. Price. Crutchfield bundle of install items makes the install easy. I took the time to also solder all connections and cover them with heat shrink tubing. Remote control is easier to use than the unit's interface touch screen and buttons. Video playback though the factory sound system is excellent. I fell like I am at the movies sound-wise. Rear Camera integration is easy. AV Out RCA is handy.

Cons: When in SMART CONTROL, you cannot change that screen to anything else and looks kind of dorky. I may just send the screen back into the unit during these times. Using SMART CONTROL with my LG G2 has been difficult. Problem could be in the cockpit, still in the learning curve 2 weeks later. Using SMART CONTROL and Pandora 95% of the time, so it would be very nice to get the Pandora info ported to the screen somehow. Any ideas?
