With the Harman Kardon Aura, sophisticated visual design meets high-performance sound. The Aura's attention-grabbing clear acoustic chamber isn't there just for show — it radiates a spacious, detailed 360° soundfield. The system features six 1-1/2" drivers that produce clear, accurate mids and highs. At the center of the array is a 4-1/2" down-firing woofer to deliver the bass. Harman's proprietary digital signal processing ensures accurate, lifelike reproduction of your music.
The striking, see-through chamber channels the sound and spreads it across the room.
The system's built-in Bluetooth lets you wirelessly stream music from your smartphone, tablet, or any other Bluetooth-compatible portable. Whether it's stored music, music services like Pandora® or Spotify, or even video and game soundtracks — if you can hear it through your portable device, you can stream it via Bluetooth to the Aura.
The speaker system also has built-in Wi-Fi, and is DLNA-certified. So you can use your DLNA-compatible Android smartphone, tablet, computer, or other component to stream music and audio to the Aura.
If you own Apple portables, good news. That Wi-Fi connectivity also lets you use Apple AirPlay through your home network. Apple AirPlay gives you additional options when you use iTunes® on your computer. Just open iTunes, select the Aura in the AirPlay menu and start streaming music to the system. Use your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch® to control the iTunes menu on your computer. From your Apple hand-held device, you can stream stored music, video and game soundtracks, and even online music services like Pandora and Spotify.
An optical digital input lets you connect your flat-panel TV or receiver to create a compact entertainment system. For most other sources, there's a simple analog stereo minijack input. Use the Harman Kardon remote app to control the system through your Android or Apple smartphone or tablet.
Perfect speaker solution for my iMac. Easily fits on desk, sounds much bigger than it is. Sound is very warm compared to most small speakers.
Pros: Great sound and appearance, easy to operate, fills up a room.
Cons: Cannot turn off the lights. At night, it lights up a whole room. The LEDs cannot even be dimmed. Major design oversight. Also, the iPhone app is flaky and looses connection easily.
For the price, this is quite a machine! Although the instructions that come with it absolutely stink (just pictures, which are marginally helpful), you just plug your phone into the speaker with a USB cable and your phone then asks you if you want to import your wi-fi settings. Click "yes" and you are done. It took me less than 5 minutes from unpacking the box to listening to music from the Airplay, Toslink and Bluetooth connections in succession. The light and the strange appearance are a little distracting, but thankfully the nearly omnidirectional sound means that you can put it in a corner or even behind a chair, as I did. The sound is clean through the various digital inputs, although I am underwhelmed by the bass response. There is a bass EQ on the iPhone app, but turning it up sounds like the old, boomy Sony "MegaBass" and just muddies things up a little. Honestly, I don't know what you would expect out of such a small package at this price point. The B&W A5 and A7 sound better overall (more transparent sound, punchier bass), but are $100 and $450 more expensive, don't have Bluetooth connectivity or a Toslink input, and are really hard to connect to your wi-fi network. I know, as I own both. This product is perfect for its niche, i.e., convenient networked speakers for extra rooms, offices, television audio. Don't expect it to sound like a high-end system and you won't be disappointed.
Pros: Connectivity, omnidirectional sound, ease of use
Cons: Appearance, light, instructions, bass response
Setup was a breeze. Bluetooth was practically instantaneous. Wifi was tricky at first until I realized the speaker wasn't recognizing my 5hz network, instead I had to use the 2.4hz and it connected right away. Was happy to see that all my equipment accessing the 5hz was still able to work perfectly with the speaker. Only downside for me is that the Bluetooth is in discoverable mode constantly. This allows new users to override the current connection and your device to be seen every time anyone nearby is searching for devices. Your music can be turned off by a new user connecting via Bluetooth even while you're on the wifi.
Pros: Easy setup, bundles wifi, Bluetooth and AirPlay. Design is beautiful and packs a punch in a small package.
Cons: Can't turn off Bluetooth discoverable mode.
I gave this to my friend who has a Mac & has been on the phone constantly with the tech person @ Crutchfield because the speaker will not sync up with her bluetooth. This is why so far I am only giving it 3 stars because we have yet to hear the speaker quality. The tech person seems at a loss as well what to do & she is waiting for further tech help?
Pros: ?, I would like to post many pros
Cons: Glitch even getting it set up.
Great harmonic range, plenty of bass and volume. I use it with AirPlay but it also supports Bluetooth.
Pros: All aspects of sound and design.
Cons: Set-up a bit tricky but Crutchfield will walk you through it if necessary.
After reviewing the Bose WiFi systems and SoNos, this appeared to be the only item that bundles bluetooth and WiFi in the same package. The mobile app isnt great, but the speaker fills my room perfectly. I am using this in a 1950s record player that I refurbished, and I wanted something that I easily switch between AUX/WiFi/Bluetooth. Perfect match for what I was looking for! Now I just need to put the new record player into the unit!
360º Room-Filling Sound: The Harman/Kardon Aura features a unique speaker & enclosure design which produces 360º room-filling. Six high/midrange drivers join together with its down-firing 4.5" subwoofer to deliver a powerful, detailed soundstage which maintains absolute clarity from any angle in the room. The wireless speaker system utilizes Harman's stereo-widening DSP technology to deliver a balanced sound with enhanced equalization to create a full and more realistic audio experience.
Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Harman/Kardon Aura supports Bluetooth A2DP wireless audio streaming. This allows you to stream stored music and music apps from your Bluetooth-enabled device (such as your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/table, or computer/laptop) to the Aura speaker system. You will continue to navigate your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device. This unit pairs with your Bluetooth-enabled device with a single press of a button. Once paired, the Aura will automatically re-connect with your device when in wireless range (up to 33').
Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the H/K Aura.
AirPlay Compatible: AirPlay lets you stream music directly from your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad, or from your iTunes library on your PC or Mac to the Denon Aura, over your wireless home network connection. By downloading Apple's free Remote App onto your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad you don't even need to be in the same room as the Aura or your computer to play, pause, skip, and stop the songs in your iTunes music library. To use the AirPlay feature you need a Mac or Windows-based PC running iTunes (10.1 or later) connected to your wireless home network. Your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad must have iOS 4.3 or later installed and connected to the same wireless home network.
DLNA Certified: The H/K Aura is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) certified. This means it's easier for you to access and enjoy digital music stored on your Windows PC, DLNA server, or DLNA-compliant Android device. You'll be able to wirelessly stream your stored music library on your compatible DLNA device to the Aura speaker. The Aura supports playback of a variety of music files via DLNA.
Analog + Digital Inputs: The Harman/Kardon Aura is fitted with a analog minijack (3.5mm) input and a digital optical (toslink) input for connecting external devices with analog or digital outputs, but don't offer wireless connectivity.
Headphone Output: The Aura features a 3.5mm headphone output to connect a set of headphones for private listening. The Aura's speakers will be muted while headphones are connected.
H/K Remote App: Downloading the free Harman/Kardon Remote app from the iTunes App store onto your Apple iOS (5.0+) device or from the Google Play Store onto your Android (2.2+) device lets you control the Aura speaker system from your smartphone or tablet device. You'll also be able to control your Apple iOS or Android device's stored music from the Harman/Kardon Remote app.
AC Power: The Harman/Kardon Aura operates off of standard household current using the included AC power adapter and cord.

Our database shows the following dimensions: w=8.75", H=10.875", D=9.1875". We also show a shipping weight of 8.5 lbs (so the actually weight of this unit would be slightly less). [ Jeff Nov 25, 2014 ] Staff
I actually own the B&W Z1 along with this speaker. In my opinion, this speaker has a much broader bottom-end and fills a room better. However, I would not recommend buying this. Mine no longer works. I've had it about 3 months. Now, it is a useless item. I barely used it before it stopped working. Line in will still work, but BT and WIFI do not. [ NICHOLAS H Sep 13, 2014 ]
Don't know how it compares to the others but it processes Apple Airplay (superior to Bluetooth, although it can do that too) and sounds great (no distortion, great harmonic range, plenty of volume and bass). Strongly recommend. [ Glenn Sep 11, 2014 ]
No. The speaker is not designed for disassembly so, don't drop anything inside of it. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5 [ Ryan Feb 03, 2016 ] Staff
