Product Research

Features

Add-on Bluetooth receiver: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 external Bluetooth receiver lets you add Bluetooth wireless audio streaming to your existing home entertainment system. Your system simply needs a free auxiliary or audio input. Now you'll be able to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home audio system.

Wireless Audio Streaming: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 features Bluetooth A2DP technology, which allows you to wirelessly stream audio from your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home entertainment system. You'll be able to stream stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled device to your home stereo system. Compatible Bluetooth-enabled devices include Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablets,Windows PC, Mac computers, and more. You will continue to control your music and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled device. You can pair up to 8 Bluetooth source devices, but only can be connected and used for playback at a time.

Note: Due to the differences in Bluetooth technology, some Bluetooth enabled devices may be incompatible, function improperly, or may not support all features when used with the H/K BTA10.

Harman TrueStream Technology: Harman TrueStream is H/K's guarantee that you will experience the best possible listening experience when streaming wirelessly via Bluetooth technology. Because there are many connectivity options when it comes to Bluetooth technology, Harman/Kardon engineers always use the most current and most advanced method. This process ensures the highest quality sound no matter the application or source device.

Analog Audio Output: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 Bluetooth receiver is fitted with a single stereo minijack (3.5mm) output which allows it to connect to your home AV receiver's auxiliary or audio input. A 59" stereo minijack cable and a 59" stereo minijack-to-RCA cable are provided.

AC Power Adapter: The Harman/Kardon BTA10 operates off of standard household current using the supplied external AC power supply (input: 100-240V; output: 5.0V/400mA).

Q
Instead of connecting/pairing my iPhone, computer or tablet to this receiver that will be connected to my home stereo. Will this product work if I connect/pair it to a wireless Bluetooth Audio-Technica AT-LP60-BT record turntable? The theory being that the source will be the Bluetooth turntable instead of a cell, tablet or computer?
ralph  Feb 18, 2024
1 answer
A
So if I am reading this correctly, and you are wanting to use the Bluetooth audio out from the AT-LP60-BT and wirelessly send that signal to this Harman Kardon Bluetooth adapter connected to a stereo receiver that does not have its own built in Bluetooth chip, this will do exactly that. It also means that you can then Bluetooth music from your phone/tablet now to your stereo receiver as well.

Q
Can this be run off an Alexa with voice commands plugged into my Amp with rca cables,?
richard  Feb 02, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Richard. Thank you for your question. This Harman Kardon BTA 10 does not have the Alexa capabilities. It is just a Bluetooth adapter to receiver information from your phones and tablets. To do Alexa you need the device to have access to your home network, and also be Alexa compatible. Then compatible does not mean you will not need anything additional. To receiver your voice commands a device with Alexa will, need to have a microphone to pick up your voice. Please contact one of our advisors at 800-324-9695 to discuss your equipment and needs.

Q
can this be plugged directly into a power amp without a preamp using phone for volume?
jay  Dec 31, 2023
1 answer
A
I suppose so, Jay. The Harmon Kardon BTA 10 outputs a line-level analog RCA signal that can be connected to a power amplifier. You will need to make sure to use your device for all volume, making sure not to power on your amplifier at full volume.

Q
Will this unit be compatible to a Bose Wave clock/radio/cd player with 3 RCA jacks in the rear of the unit?
fermino  Jul 17, 2023
1 answer
A
You will need to take a close look at those RCA's and confirm if one is for a "line input", Fermino. IF one is available on your model then you can connect the Harmon Kardon BTA 10 and stream into your Wave radio. Some models of the Bose Wave radio only have a 3.5 aux input. IF that is the case with your radio, you can use the 3.5mm to 3.5mm aux cable included in the packaging to connect. I hope this helps!

I have a Grace internet radio tuner. Will this allow me to cast from my android radio app?
daniel  Sep 27, 2021
2 answers
A
Im no expert. I use my old iPod and iPad connected to a receive and have no issues. If you are using bluetooth it should not be a problem.
larry  Sep 28, 2021
A
Although I am not familiar with a Grace internet radio tuner I can tell you about my installation. I have a 40 year old Sansui receiver. I connected the HK device to the Aux input RCA jacks (Red & White) on the back of the receiver. I then connected the HK power cord to the power outlet plug on the back of the receiver. When the receiver is powered on the HK device powers on also. I use my iPad for the Bluetooth connection to the HK device. Select the music app and establish the Bluetooth connection and my music plays through the Sansui. If your Grace tuner has Aux input jacks for the RCA plugs and you have a 110 power source nearby then it may work. Best of luck to you.

Q
Will this amplify my tablet/phone's output signal level going into the home stereo receiver more than just using a rca adapter with my phone?
wes  Jul 07, 2021
4 answers
A
This device is a simple Bluetooth connection for your phone/pad etc. You can use the volume on your phone or IPad to adjust sound level in conjunction with the volume on your amp/receiver but no it doesn't "amplify" the signal. Hope that makes sense.
michael  Oct 11, 2021
A
No it will not.
david  Jul 07, 2021
A
Prior to purchase, did not compare to cell/rca adapter. For me, the HK device was being used on a boat and the source (for music when I'm not at the dock and able to access music over the internet) is my tablet. Frees me up to keep cell in my pocket and do projects outside the boat w/o any interruption in music streaming, which would happen when my cell is not near the HK device. My tablet remains inside the boat w/in about 4-5 ft of the HK device, which is connected to a yamaha receiver. I do need to adjust the volume control on my tablet to the maximum level, which then gives the receiver enough signal strength to push sound out through speakers. Hope this helps...
robert  Jul 07, 2021
A
You will be able to control the volume from your tablet or by turning up the volume on the amp/receiver. I leave my receiver about 3/4 up and use my iPad or iPhone to control the volume.
william  Jul 07, 2021
Q
What is the voltage level of the output? Is it "line level" which would be about 1 volt?
thomas  Apr 21, 2021
2 answers
A
This item comes with RCA connection to one's tape 2 or auxiliary input and a/c power cord. I recommend plugging the power line into a switched outlet on a receiver or amp to enable/disable it automatically with usage. Once selected as your input, one then connects their Bluetooth device/cell phone and then play/stream all your own mp3/digital music through one's existing hi-fidelity stereo or equivalent amp in your home. It's very easy. I haven't a clue why volts are being discussed. It isn't complex even for a 70's old school stereophile to plug and play.
mark a.  Apr 21, 2021
A
Not sure what the volts are but I use my laptop Bluetooth through it into my mixer out to my 15 in set of thumps and my 18 in thump sub and I've never had any problem

Can I use this to connect a Definative technology studio W sound bar to Denon s750h?

I don't see why you can't. I used it to connect my iPod to my HK receiver and play through the aux port. If the demon is BT and you have the audio jacks on the sound bar it should work.

I don't about the bta but he works fine
arthur p  Dec 28, 2020

They are not really comparable products. The Harman Kardon BTA 10 is for connecting computer to audio equipment via blue tooth, for streaming music. It does not process HDMI inputs.

I hooked mine to receiver I use in the garage and just this weekend after 8or 9 months, it won't connect anymore. So my answer is probably not.

To be honest, I never tried. I do not own Bluetooth headphones, so I cannot answer this question. Sorry. This device is used to receive Bluetooth signals from cellphone and send it to a non-Bluetooth receiver through RCA cables.
howard j.  Dec 28, 2020
A
It's a receiver, not a transmitter. Think of it as an input de ice, not an output device.
bill  Dec 27, 2020
A
Yes, just think of it as an "aux" input source you're giving your receiver. Send to speakers, or turn speakers off and listen to headphones.

I am currently using Logitech item number 980-000910 in 3 locations, 1 at home, and 2 at work. They are constantly connecting, beeping when it connects and disconnects, and when you disconnect from it, you are reconnected only a few seconds later and either has to unplug it or remove it from your paired items list in android to use another Bluetooth connection and no volume control from the phone. The question is does this unit work better and address those issues? The Logitech has a decent range but the other issues are annoying. Thanks

This unit makes no noises of any kind and, as of yet, I have had zero connectivity issues. It does not auto connect to any of my devices so, you shouldn't have the issue of unwanted connecting. I use this with my garage system while Im in the garage but it will also connect to my surround sound receiver in the basement.

Q
Will this adapter be able to pair a Harmon Kardon Enchant 1300 sound bar to a powered but not Bluetooth enabled subwoofer?
mark  Dec 10, 2020
3 answers
A
I use my IPad or IPhone to play music through my Bose CD Player/Radio. I paired the BTA 10 to my IPad and IPhone via Blue Tooth. Of course, the BTA connects to the Bose Input receptacle. I have not tried switching the BTA 10 to the Bose Ouput side. I would say that the BTA 10 signal receiver would need to be Blue Tooth capable.
elias  Dec 10, 2020
A
Don't know
stephen  Dec 10, 2020
A
I don't think so because my subwoofer is enabled for Bluetooth. However I have the Harmon Kardon Bluetooth adapter plugged into the line input of my Vincent integrated amp which doesn't have Bluetooth. I paired the HK Bluetooth adapter to my iPhone and also to my laptop so I can play iTunes. The Bluetooth enabled subwoofer has the Bluetooth adapter which came with it. I recommend that you call the customer service person at Crutchfield and they can provide the best answer. Best regards, Richard

However, it can be paired to an active listening Alexa device like an echo or echo dot to get audio from the dot into powered speakers or a receiver.

It should if your receiver has a auxiliary input for RCA connectors. On my last Yamaha receiver I connected it into a RCA dvd input and it worked fine.
duane  Oct 14, 2020
A
I purchased this for use with two receivers from the early 90's and it works great! It can be plugged into any input (phono, cd, dvd, tape, etc). It is great to be able to play music or podcasts from your phone! I am not familiar with your receiver, but you should be able to tell from the photos if it has the correct type connector for your receiver.

Doesn't have great range but works great if you're in the same room. I've never noticed poor sound quality when using. Doesn't have the power to receive around corners or through walls
mark  Aug 11, 2020
A
I don't have exact numbers, my HK blue tooth receiver did a good job of sound quality. If you are really looking for super high quality sound don't go blue tooth and don't go with MP3. My biggest gripe with getting a new set of speakers and a new receiver was I realized MP3's were not the greatest sound quality. If you are listening for just background sound MP3's and blue tooth are fine.
joel  Aug 11, 2020
A
I have no idea. All I know is this thing works. You plug it in, open BT on your device and there it is ready to link, which it does immediately, unlike others I've tried that require special processes, ritual dances and what not to get linked. Buy this. It's good.

Seems to have at least the range the customer needs. I use it indoors, and it is able to receive a signal uninterrupted through 3 walls at least 60 feet from the source.
mitchell a.  Jun 14, 2020
A
I think it may work fine. I use it indoors, on a separate amp for my devices. It can get spotty if I take the transmitting device across the house (through walls). Connection remains at approximately 50 feet. It's the best Bluetooth I've found.

Only if they are linked to the head unit that this product is wired into. This is a Bluetooth receiver that plugs in to your home stereo or audio system via RCA jacks. And will pick up music off your phone like say pandora or what ever you link to it. ????
timothy jon  Jun 09, 2020

This is a wireless receiver, so it takes the bluetooth signal and transmits it into the stereo. It does not broadcast out a wireless signal, so no - I don't think this will work for you.
brandon  Jun 09, 2020

unfortunately no...this is a blue tooth device that receives signals from your computer, tablet, phone, etc. it does not transmit a bluetooth signal, so it would be of no use for your application

can I play two Bluetooth speakers at the same time?
jackie  Jan 04, 2020

This connects as a component to your existing stereo as an input, just like you would add a tape deck, turntable or record player. It does not play Bluetooth speakers. It will receive and relay music sent from your phone using Bluetooth technology for the connection to your phone for example. I loaded up my father-in-law's iPad with all his music and now he can play it on his stereo system. It works great! Bob

Hi Joe! This adapter would work for you if you were looking to stream audio from a Bluetooth capable device, to your Bose Wave III. This adapter will not allow you to transmit CD or radio being played from the Bose Wave system, to a set of wireless speakers. Chat with an Advisor online, or get in touch by phone at 1-800-324-9695. They will be happy to check out your existing gear, and give you some options to get things up and running for you.

I'm looking for a device like this that will NOT aggressively reconnect with a previously paired source, unless I tell the source to reconnect. Does this do that? (Reason is, I'll use it to connect stereo system to an Alexa Echo Dot to stream audio. But when stereo system is not powered, I don't want the Dot to connect to it. Cannot specifically answer your question but I have used Alexa with an Audioengine B1 (a fine piece of tech) and found Alexa to be a bit over aggressive in making and keeping a connection. Eventually opted to take Alexa out of the equation. So, not sure if the problem is with the HP adapter or Alexa. Good luck!

I'm not sure about connecting it to a PC but I have found that my phone needs to be within a few feet of the HK device. If it gets more than than 20 feet away the signal gets very weak and doesn't work well.

It really doesn't turn off in the traditional sense of an on/off switch. When it is disconnected from a Bluetooth source, it is off. The only time it will connect to your Bluetooth device is when you pair it with this adapter.

I assume that it turns off after you disconnect the device that you paired to it (blue light will go out). However, this doesn't mean that it's not still searching for a device to connect with. I've not had any issues with connecting from the HK BTA 10. Moto X phone would connect automatically when I turn on its bluetooth (if in range). Using a Samsung, I have to select it to connect.

Hi Chris, I purchase an HK Bta-10 and you treat it just as if it were a CD player and hook it up to RCA inputs. Then you Bluetooth phone will seek out making the connection so you can stream music. You control the volume at the stereo or the phone. You may have to go to the Bluetooth connection on your phone after you begin the streaming to initiate the phone to look for the signal from the HK.

The Harmon Kardon BTA is made for older units without Bluetooth capabilities. It is extremely easy to hook up. You simply plug in the supplied cords to an unused output on your receiver and plug in a power cord. I actually use on an older Onkyo receiver myself. Definitely worth the money as opposed to buying a new receiver.

A
BSmart, I'm not quite sure that I understand your intent with this device, however, I can tell you how I use the HK BTA-10. The device allows my stereo receiver to be controlled (volume, track, playlist, etc) with my smart phone. It connects to my receiver via a red & white RCA type jack into the AUX inputs on the back of the receiver. I would imagine that it could be connected to any of the other unused functions as well. There is also a separate cable and adapter for power. None of the connections for this device connect to the headphone jack in my application. In respect to your speaker question, I don't think that type of application is the intent of this device. Further, your smart-TV most likely is already Bluetooth enabled, allowing you to listen via your favorite headphones with a wireless connection. Hopefully my comments have given you some insight into this product. Good Luck, JD

I have purchased two of these units and have been well served by them. I use them in each location to take a blue tooth audio signal into (separate) stereo receivers. The signal sources in respective locations are a Windows desktop computer (upstairs) and a Macbook Pro laptop downstairs. The unit stands alone but has a power cord with a small transformer, receives AC and operates on DC from the transformer. Cables are provided with the unit. The audio out to the receivers is a ministereo jack at the unit and RCA left and right for the receiver end, probably six feet, perhaps a bit less. In each location, I decided in favor of the HK BTA-10 and against higher fidelity speakers for each computer, reasoning that I had already invested in good speaker quality for each receiver. Upstairs, all computer generated audio is heard through my bookshelf speakers; downstairs, likewise, all audio from the laptop goes through our Polk Audio floor-standing speakers. Do pay attention to the proximity of the device to the blue tooth source (closer is better), and do make sure your source, if a computer, is capable of generating a bluetooth signal. My Macbook came with bluetooth installed, but with the older PC I had to obtain a USB plug in, but both of the HK units work well, and deliver stereo input to the receiver.

Can Use with an old onkyo to have wireless speakers through out my house from my stereo?
nicole  Oct 09, 2017
2 answers
A
Not speakers. H/K BTA-10 might help your old Onkyo with Bluetooth devices.
juan  Oct 09, 2017
A
Not sure of your exact set up but the harmon kardon will work through your old onkyo amp as long as you have rca inputs on the back of it. I then assume this onkyo amp is hooked up to speakers throughout your house which I assumed are connected by wires to the onkyo since you said it was old. This would then allow you to play music via Bluetooth from your phone or like device through the onkyo into the speakers. Hope this answers your question - thanks.

I don't know if I can answer your question, but I have two of these devices, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, respectively, stereo receivers. Downstairs we connect to a Yamaha receiver I've had for years, getting true stereo for streamed music, radio and video from the (Apple laptop) computer. Upstairs, I equipped a a Windows PC desktop with a $25 blue tooth adapter as that computer did not otherwise send a bluetooth signal, again using the HK blue tooth to take a stereo signal into a Panasonic receiver. Both the HK units have worked well, and as long as you are not pushing them to the end of their range of distance from the blue tooth signal source (not more than thirty feet), the HK units do just fine. I don't know if less expensive units from other makers were available when I purchased (about six months apart), but the units have worked without a hitch and the sound quality is very good to excellent.

My HK BTA receives wireless signals from a Bluetooth device and sends the signals out via cable to an "audio in" jack of my audio system, which sends them out the "audio out" jack through wires to speakers. HK BTA does not appear capable of changing a signal from a projector "audio out" jack into a wireless transmission to the Echo, which is what your application requires. Maybe Crutchfield has something for that.
mary  Jul 17, 2017
A
That scenario sounds like it would be opposite use of this product, it is designed to give you a Bluetooth input for non equipped stereos, you need a Bluetooth transmitter, this is a receiver.
joe  Jul 17, 2017
A
I am not certain how you are setting this up but you will need an audio in jack for the BTA 10 to connect and act as the Bluetooth for the non-Bluetooth unit. So if the echo doesn't have the audio in connection the BTA 10 is not going to work.

If connected to my TV, so I can use wireless headphones, will the headphones sound loud and clear within 20 Feet? I've ordered a less expensive Bluetooth audio receiver and my headphones won't work to full capacity. Like they do with my I phone, very loud.

Theresa, I have not used this B/T device with headphones. I can tell you it works well with our Ipad streaming music well over 20 feet. I am very pleased with the performance.

I have had good success with the BTA 10, which I use to play music and internet streaming radio from my ipad into my bedroom receiver/speakers. The distance is probably just about 20 feet from ipad to the BTA 10, possibly a couple of feet less, and the volume level is compatible, although perhaps just a tad less than, what I get with the same receiver volume set when I play the receiver's radio or a cd player. I also have lots of "headroom" to increase the receiver's volume setting, but for my purposes, so far, haven't yet needed to do that. Only quirk I've noticed is that when I back up the ipad, I have to re-pair the BTA 10 with the ipad, and on two occasions, I've had to unplug and replug in the BTA to enable the pairing to occur. Other than that quirk, I've been well satisfied with the unit, and just ordered a second one for my downstairs receiver/speakers, so I can play music and stream radio and online video to the downstairs speakers from a dedicated mac laptop, allowing me to dispense with a wire connection from the laptop to the auxiliary input on the receiver. I hope that is helpful to your decision making.

It depends on the head phones, I would buy a wireless expander to help in the house.

If I want to connect my phone to a different bluetooth device will the Harman continue to try to auto connect? This has been an issue for similar products.

I have not had that problem with this device. Note that it can only connect with one device at a time. And the range is not as strong as some of my other devices. But it works well within 20 feet or so.

Yes I believe it will, but you can always go into your phone settings and tell it to forget the BTA 10. That should keep it from trying to connect until you tell it to.

Does this or any similar devices support hq streaming?

Hello, I guess by HQ you mean High Quality, The answer is no because of the nature of the bluetooth technology, a wifi device will give you a higher quality sound rather than bluetooth. The device work quite well though I have not complained about it.

This is a good product for older devices that does not have blue tooth. I use it for streaming music from my smart phone to this device that hook directly to a receiver.

Well im going to presume the HQ means high quality if so yes the streaming quality is exceptional however you will get best results if the streaming device is in the same room no more than about 10 feet. I have another friend that has the same device and no complaints I would recommend you give it a try I've had mines 3 years now.

i use this to connect my bluetooth phone music to my audio system which is goes through the analog source of my audio system. So i don't forsee any problems with connecting the tv source to your headphones via this bluetooth adapter. i believe the hk bta 10 also comes with the correct wires for a connection between the actually device and your tv but you may want to make sure in case you need to order a different set of cables.

This device uses Bluetooth. You will be able to send audio from your Macbook to to the A/V receiver with this using the built in Bluetooth on the computer. If you prefer to add AirPlay, then your best bet may be to get an AppleTV. This would allow you to quickly and easily add AirPlay to your existing system. You can find out more about the AppleTV here: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_472APPLTV/Apple-TV.html

this works well without AirPlay. It has it's own Bluetooth address and works well with both Apple and Android devices. I play it thru my six input on Rotel equipment and sound is great!

I am not aware of a booster associated with this product. I have connectivity to at least 30 feet. The product requires a separate power source and will stay on when the receiver is off.

Would like to convert an older receiver and CD player if possible to bluetooth so I can use wireless speakers. Anyone know if this is possible wit this unit?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: This won't work to send out a signal to wireless speakers. This is meant to turn an older receiver (with RCA inputs) in to a bluetooth capable device so you can stream audio to it from your tablet or smart phone. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
