Old school sound meets new school features
Old school sound meets new school features
Harman Kardon receivers are known for combining a stylish design with sound that packs a punch. That's just what you'll get with their HK 3700, along with some pretty cool features for enjoying digital music. With connections for an iPhone®, USB thumb drive, CD player, and turntable, along with network connectivity, there are lots of ways to enjoy all your music with this versatile receiver. It's a great option for music lovers seeking a stereo system with classic sound and modern connectivity.
Clean sound from a new "green" technology
Harman Kardon has been working to make their receivers more energy efficient without compromising sound quality. The HK 3700 represents the fruits of their labor. It utilizes Harman Kardon's GreenEdge™ technology. Rather than redesigning the Class A/B amplification stage, this receiver features a new digital power supply. Unlike conventional analog power supplies, this new digital design uses less energy, fewer raw materials, and produces less heat. The result is a lightweight, efficient, eco-friendly receiver that delivers the same sonic benefits we've come to expect from this audio innovator.
Stream music over your home network
The HK 3700 is Internet-ready — connect it to your network router to open up lots of wireless listening possibilities. Stream music from your computer over your wireless home network. You can also listen to thousands of free Internet radio streams from stations around the world, going far beyond the reach of the built-in AM/FM tuner. Download the free Harman Kardon remote app to your iOS® or Android™ device and use it to control the receiver and play locally-stored songs wirelessly through your system. App control requires a wireless home network and a wired connection between your receiver and your network router.
Connect your iPhone or USB thumb drive
The USB port on the HK 3700's front panel lets you plug in your iPhone, iPod®, or iPad® to listen to music. This connection bypasses the device's digital-to-analog converters in favor of the receiver's high-performance DACs. That means you'll get smoother sound with more detail than your iPhone can deliver on its own. You can also use the receiver's remote to control playback with connected Apple® devices. The USB port is also great for playing digital music files on thumb drives by popping them into the USB port.

Output Power: The Harman/Kardon HK3700 stereo receiver features a 85 watt x 2-channel (8-ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, THD 0.07%) amplifier for great sound quality with little distortion even at high volumes.
High-Resolution 24-bit/192kHz DAC: This stereo receiver is equipped with a 24-bit/192-kHz DAC for excellent sound quality reproduction that is natural sounding.
Harman Volume: Harman volume is an advanced digital signal processing technology to control playback volume. It evens out the volume level on everything you watch, improving your listening experience. Once you choose the volume level, Harman Volume does the rest. It helps you avoid volume increases from commercials, volume differences when you change channels or switch sources, and brings out the dialog.
Analog Inputs/Output: The Harman/Kardon stereo receiver features five analog stereo RCA inputs to connect up to five audio components, and one stereo RCA record output to connect to a CD-recorder and other recording device. Included in the five analog inputs is a Phono input (MM) for vinyl playback.
Phono Input: In addition to the five analog inputs, the stereo receiver is fitted with a Phono input (MM) for vinyl playback.
A & B Speaker Terminals: This receiver features two sets of speaker outputs (A & B), each with binding-post terminals. You can independently turn on or off each pair of speakers, as well as play both pair of speakers. The speaker pairs are wired internally in parallel. These binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin-connectors, and banana plugs (single or dual).
Subwoofer Output: The stereo receiver is equipped with a mono-subwoofer output for connecting a powered subwoofer. The output is full-range, so you will need to connect a powered subwoofer with a built-in crossover.
Headphone Jack: There is a full-size (1/4") headphone jack on the front panel. When headphones are plugged in the speaker outputs are automatically muted.
Network & Tuner Functions
Ethernet LAN Port: The H/K stereo receiver is fitted with a RJ-45 Ethernet (LAN) port to connect the receiver to your home network to access your DLNA music server or Internet Radio.
Internet Radio (from vTuner): You can also listen to Internet radio stations using the vTuner Internet Radio Station database service particularly customized for this unit, providing a database of numerous radio stations around the world. You can search for Internet Radio stations by Location, Genre, New, Popular, or Podcast. You can store up to 30 of your favorite stations.
DLNA Certified: The HK3700 is DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) 1.5 and Windows 7/8 compliant for audio networking. This means it's easier for you to access and enjoy digital music stored on your PC. Compatible music files include MP3 (32-320kbps; 8-48kHz) and WMA (5-192kbps; 8-48kHz). You can use your PC to play music content through your audio system, or use the H/K receiver to browse and play music files on computer's hard drive. You can control playback of your streamed audio files from the network receiver's remote control. The receiver also supports ID3-Tag and META tag information so song title, artist name, and album name can be displayed from the unit's front-panel display.
AM/FM Tuner: The Harman/Kardon stereo receiver features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning (auto/manual). You can store up to 30 AM/FM presets (in any combination). You're able to scan through these presets (5-seconds each) to help you search for your favorite music. You also can tune directly to a station using the numeric keypad on the included remote control.
USB/iPod Integration
Front-Panel USB Port: This stereo receiver is equipped with a front-panel USB (type-A) port that allows you to enjoy playback of MP3 (32-320kbps; 8-48kHz) and WMA (5-192kbps; 8-48kHz) music files from a USB mass storage class memory device; such as select Android smartphones (Froyo/Gingerbread OS only), portable MP3 players, or USB thumbdrives (not compatible with USB HDDs). The USB device must be formatted in FAT or FAT32. Using the unit's front-panel display and included remote control, you can browse your stored music files on your connected USB memory device. USB portable audio devices that can be charged via USB will be charged when plugged into the network stereo receiver's USB port (5V/0.5A).
iPod/iPhone Direct: The USB (type-A) port on the front-panel provides convenient connection for your iPod/iPhone so you can listen to your stored music and music apps through the H/K stereo receiver. The iPod/iPhone USB digital connection means that the digital audio signal from your iPod/iPhone is transmitted directly to the system, minimizing noise interference and allowing use of the receiver's DAC, not the DAC in your iPod/iPhone. This results in more precise sound reproduction. You can choose to control your Apple device from its clickwheel/touchscreen or from the receiver.. Basic playback functions (such as Play/Pause, Previous/Next Track) can be controlled by the receiver's remote. Song/artist information on your iPod/iPhone will display on your connected the unit's front-panel display. Your iPod/iPhone's battery will be charged while connected to the receiver. Using the Lightning- or Dock-cable that came with your Apple device to connect directly to the H/K stereo receiver, iPod/iPhone compatibility is as follows (as of 9/25/2014):

You'll also be able to control your Apple iOS or Android device's stored music from the Harman/Kardon Remote app.
- Source Selection: You'll be able to access and select all of the receiver source inputs (Analog 1-5 inputs, Phono input, DLNA, vTuner, USB, or iPod) through your Apple iOS or Android device with the Harmon/Kardon Remote app installed.
- Audio Settings: You have control of the receiver 's Volume and other audio adjustments through the Harman/Kardon Remote app and your Apple iOS/Android device.

IR Input/Output: There is one minijack (3.5mm) remote input and one minijack (3.5mm) remote output on the rear panel of this unit. If the receiver is placed behind a solid or smoked glass door, the obstruction may prevent the front panel IR sensor from receiving commands from the remote. If the unit is positioned so the front panel IR sensor cannot receive commands from the remote, an optional IR repeater system (sold separately) may be connected to the Remote IR In jack and positioned to accept commands from the remote. The Remote IR Out jack can be connected to the remote input jack of compatible equipment to relay commands to that equipment.
Trigger Output: This minijack (3.5mm) output sends a 12-volt DC turn-on signal to another component that accepts a 12-volt trigger, such as a CD player or powered subwoofer.

The amplifier works well. setup in under 10 minutes. Simple operation with clean sound. If you want deep rumbling bass, you really need to connect a powered bass speaker with crossover. A pre-amp output is provided for it.
