Power to go, plus a blast of air when you need it — the Xantrex XPower Powerpack 400 Plus is truly one handy accessory! It features a 320 watt DC-to-AC power inverter, plus a 250 p.s.i. air compressor and built-in battery, all in one convenient package.

Take it on a camping trip, and you'll have enough power to run a 13" TV, boombox, or laptop. And it is a perfect safety companion for the highway — you can inflate a tire quickly with the air compressor or jump start a dead battery with the built-in power pack (jumper cables included).

A digital display provides easy-to-read info about wattage draw and battery capacity. Use it to power small electric tools in your yard without hauling extension cords behind you. It even has a built-in lamp for use at night or in the woods. Xantrex inverters sense low battery voltage automatically to eliminate the possibility of a drained battery.

Features

Overview: The Xantrex XPower Powerpack 400 Plus features a 400 watt DC-to-AC power inverter, plus a 250 p.s.i. air compressor and built-in battery, all in one convenient package.

Using the Powerpack for the First Time: Prior to operating your AC appliance or 12 V DC appliance, you must ensure that the battery of the Powerpack is fully charged. If the battery has been fully discharged, recharging with the AC charger may take up to 35 hours.

AC Outlets: The Powerpack has two 3-prong outlets that supply 120 V AC power for running AC appliances. You can run several appliances if the total rating of all the appliances does not exceed 320 W.

DC Power Socket: The DC power socket allows the Powerpack to operate 12 V DC auto, RV, marine, and other portable appliances that draw 12 A or less.

Jump-Starting a Vehicle's Engine: You can use the Powerpack to jump-start a vehicle or boat engine that has a 12 V starting battery using the supplied jumper cables.

Air Compressor: The Powerpack has a built-in 250 p.s.i. air compressor for inflating tires and small sports equipment.

Note: The Powerpack cannot be used to inflate large capacity inflatables such as float tubes, large air mattresses, and inflatable boats. These products require extended inflating times, which may damage the compressor.

Built-in Light: The Powerpack has a built-in incandescent light that will operate for approximately 30 hours before the unit needs to be recharged. The light can be adjusted up and down by pushing against the top or bottom of the rim around the lens.

Automatic Overload: The Powerpack 400 Plus has built-in protection against output overload. If you connect an appliance that draws more than 320 W, or one that draws excessive surge power, the power to the AC outlet automatically shuts off.

Overheating: The Powerpack 400 Plus is protected from overheating. If the inverter exceeds a safe temperature, power to the AC outlet automatically shuts off.

Low Battery Protection: Low battery protection protects the internal battery from excessive discharge and possible damage. When the AC Outlet On/Off switch is turned on, an audible alarm alerts you when the internal battery is nearly discharged (11 V DC) and the unit turns off at 10.5 V DC.

Jump-Start Cable Safety Feature: The Powerpack comes with a user-replaceable 250 A fuse to protect the unit and vehicle battery from damage through reverse polarity and short-circuit conditions.

Recharging: You can recharge the Powerpack using any of the following options:

  • supplied AC charger
  • supplied DC charging cable
  • optional generator equipped with a regulated 12 V battery charging outlet
  • optional solar panel

wonderful product

Written By John, Catskill NY on Sunday, December 14, 2008

Just received this item for a Christmas gift. I have had other products like this from other companies, but they did not last. I have already put this to work and it is fantastic. Xantrex is the leader when it comes to these products. This is a discontinued item so I was able to get some money off of the suggested retail price. You can extend battery operating times by connecting the X-Power Powerpack to a larger external battery. For example, an external 60 Ah battery gives appx. four times the operating time of the X-Power Powerpack internal 20 Ah battery(from the instruction manual). Just connect with the included jumper cables.
I highly recommend this product. Crutchfield only had around 50 units left and they cant get anymore. Hurry up before they are gone

Pretty Good Choice

Written By Michael's Saints, Monroeville, NJ on Saturday, September 13, 2008

I bought this device as we often have short electrical outages during thunderstorms. As this most often occurs in the summer, I wanted something simple to run a fan or a light or charge my cell phone. It meets those requirements very nicely. I keep it in my car primarily for the automobile features particularly inflating a tire. Truth be known, it does pressure a tire from 0 to 32 psi, but it takes about 10 minutes. The radio is almost useless but the built-in light is good.

Good deal for what you get...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I haven't used this much yet, but the powerpack came in very useful on a recent camping trip where we needed power where there wasn't any available.

I will say that I'm not very impressed by the inflator option. I haven't tried it on a regular tire yet, but I tried to blow up a small raft and about gave up to do it manually.
