You bought a 1996-2002 BMW 3 or 5 Series, and now the dealer is telling you that adding a CD changer will cost you a bundle. Here's a way to add CD changer entertainment to your vehicle, and save some cash! The Peripheral BMWPILA adapter allows you to connect a Pioneer CD changer (6- or 12-disc) to certain 1996-2002 BMW-built radios with CD controls. Keep in mind that these adapters are not universal — each adapter works only in specific vehicles. The BMWPILA adapter can be used with any 1996-2002 BMW-built vehicle with CD changer controlling capability that uses the factory 3-pin and 6-pin connectors (found in the trunk). In a BMW 3 Series vehicle, the adapter allows the use of a Pioneer 6- or 12-disc changer (the radio display cannot show discs 10, 11, and 12 when connected to the 12-disc unit). When using this adapter with compatible 5 series BMWs, only a Pioneer CDX-P670 6-disc CD changer can be used, and the random function will not work.

Important Note: In all instances, a wire must be run from the ignition to the BMWPILA adapter.
