Overview Details Customer Reviews Category Info Our take on the Peripheral iPod® Adapter by Tim Sprinkle Why would I need an iPodĀ® adapter? An iPod adapter allows you to connect your iPod to your car stereo, then access your playlists with your stereo's controls - a great idea for several reasons. One, you can scroll through your song titles on your stereo's larger display, instead of squinting down at your iPod. Two, you can route the adapter cable to your glove compartment or center console, so your iPod stays safely out of sight. Three, the iPod adapter keeps your iPod fully charged, so it's ready to rock when you leave your car. And last of all, some adapters bypass your iPod's internal digital-to-analog converter, using your stereo's superior DAC to turn your files back into music. You can listen to your iPod including newer iPods, like the nano, classic, and iPhone in the car without replacing your factory stereo. All it takes is a CD changer-compatible factory stereo, a vehicle-specific cable adapter, and this iPod2car adapter box from Peripheral. Just install the iPod2car adapter box in an out-of-the-way spot, connect it to your vehicle's radio with the cable adapter, and hook up your iPod. You'll be listening to all of your favorite tracks through your car speakers in no time. The iPod2car adapter allows you to control the party with your radio buttons (even steering wheel controls if you have them) including controls for track up/down, fast forward, and rewind. The iPod itself stays active, too, giving you access to all of your playlists and filters. And you won't have to worry about sound quality. The wired connection ensures the best possible performance from your portable player. Once everything is installed, you'll be able to access the iPod by pressing "CD" or "AUX" on your radio. And the iPod2car will even charge your iPod while it's plugged in. Peripheral gives you everything you need to bring iPod convenience on the road. Note: If you haven't already, please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if we have a vehicle-specific cable adapter that'll connect the iPod2car to your vehicle. If you download a newer software version, you may need to reset the factory radio and your iPod/iPhone to regain functionality. If this doesn't work, you may need to revert to the older software version or wait until an newer software update is available. Controls: The iPod is controlled using the CD Changer commands on the factory radio (or steering wheel if equipped). Track skip forward/backward and fast forward/rewind within a song work just like on a CD. The controls on the iPod remain active so you have full playback control. The iPod2car interface does not disable any functionality of the iPod. Battery Charge: The PXDP charges iPod battery when connected. CD Changer Port: The adapter uses the factory radio's CD Changer port so if the vehicle has an existing outboard CD Changer it must be disconnected. Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. This is such a huge improvement over my old FM modulator that it's not even worth comparing. No more trying to find free stations, especially on long trips through multiple cities. I routed the cable to the center arm rest compartment in my 2001 Mercury Sable, and now with the ipod hidden, I can just shut off the car and leave, rather than having to unplug and stow it out of sight every time. Sound quality is excellent. I went about 3 weeks without setting dipswitch 6 (to boost the sound level) and I loved it even with the lower sound level. Now it just rocks with switch 6 set. I love that I don't have to bring my ipod nano (8G) in to the house to charge it anymore. It's always charged and ready to go with this adapter. The biggest factor for me in deciding to buy this unit rather than replacing the factory stereo with an aftermarket one with line input, was the fact that I don't like the small buttons on aftermarket stereos. It's great being able to skip forward/back with my factory stereo buttons. FF within a track does not work, but that's not a feature I would use anyway. If I want to do specific things like that, I can always pick up the ipod and do it right from the click wheel. It's great that it remains active when plugged in to the adapter. I've had a great experience with this product, and Crutchfield was flawless. Was this review helpful? Yes | No 5 out of 5 Good-bye itrip Written By trojangod, Los Angeles, Ca on Monday, May 23, 2005 Just had this item installed into my Jeep. It sounds great and allows me to control the music from the ipod interface. No more static due to poor fm reception through an itrip. I can access any and all songs on my ipod, not just from certain playlists like some other devices I had been looking to purchase. The one down side at this point seems to be my inability to fast forward or rewind songs using the buttons on my radio as advertised. Not a major concern, but something that I think I should share. If you like the ability to play all the music in your ipod without creating 6 playlists that include everything first, this is the product for you. You may want to purchase some sort of holder, either a vent mount or cup holder version, to be able to work the ipod without losing track of the road. Love it, and will be adding another one to my wife's car soon. [Editor's note: you should be able to fast forward/rewind the songs on your iPod via the radio's control buttons. We suggest that you either upgrade the firmware on your iPod (via Apple's web site) or double check the DIP switches on the iPod2Car itself. If problems continue, please contact Crutchfield technical support.] 16 out of 18 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. Installed this into my 2005 Scion xA with standard Scion/Pioneer in-dash radio/cd. Radio removal was easy, I found a PDF doc from a Toyota service manual online. This is something Crutchfield should supply.Supplied manual has DIP switch settings for most cars, but the Scion worked better by setting switch 6 to ON. Volume and sound quality was improved and controlling iPod from radio was more reliable.Operation of the adapter is amazing. All of the logic is well thought out and better than what I've read of competing products. Here are the good points:All of the iPod controls remain operational, you can still use the iPod while it's connected.Charging is automatic. Pause and Play are automatic. If you switch to the radio, the iPod pauses. If you switch back to Changer the iPod resumes play from where it was paused. If you pause on the iPod and press Changer on the radio, the iPod plays. Track Up and Down on the radio switches to the next or previous song on the iPod. Track changing is fast. Press Track Up 5 times quickly the iPod skips 5 tracks instantly. Scion is offering a built-in iPod connector on the 2006 models, but it's a $300 option. So I highly recommend this adapter to all Scion users. 8 out of 9 people found this helpful Was this review helpful? 5 out of 5 Best of Currently Available Adapters Written By Scott, San Francisco, CA on Tuesday, July 05, 2005 Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?) Crutchfield Customer Review The reviewer purchased this item from us, verified by the email address on the order. Yes | No
