About the PAC RP4-FD11 Wiring Interface

Jon Paul

PAC RP4-FD11

PAC's RP4-FD11 radio replacement interface lets you replace the factory radio in select 2005-16 Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, and Mercury vehicles. You'll still retain your factory steering wheel audio controls, rear seat entertainment (RSE) system, retained accessory power (RAP), and the use of your Ford factory amplifier, if present.

The RP4-FD11 interface eliminates the need for the steering wheel audio control adapter that's usually required for a Ford-built vehicle, saving you some more cash. Warranty: 1 year.

Important Note: You'll lose your fader control if you have an amplified system in your vehicle. The RP4-FD11 adapter does not work with your SYNC system; you'll need PAC's MS-FRD1 adapter to maintain that functionality. See Details for a list of compatible car stereos.

Please enter your vehicle information or call an Advisor at 1-888-955-6000 to find out if this model is compatible with your vehicle.

    Notes:

    • Not compatible with 2008 F-250/350/450 with XL trim (fleet vehicles).
    • Only compatible in base model 2013-2014 F150 trucks equipped with the center stack radio.

Retained Features: Using this interface will retain factory features such as steering wheel controls (SWC), Aux input, rear seat entertainment (RSE), rear seat control (RSC) and, the factory audio amplifier whenever the original radio is removed. The RP4-FD11 also provides data bus driven outputs such as retained accessory power (RAP), vehicle speed sensor (VSS), illumination, reverse trigger, and parking brake.

  • If the vehicle is equipped with the Sony factory stereo system, adjust the fader to your preferred front/rear setting before the factory radio is removed. Neither the aftermarket radio nor the RP4-FD11 interface has the ability to adjust the factory amplifier's fader.
  • The RadioPro4 (RP4-FD11) does not retain your vehicle's factory SYNC system.

Steering Wheel Control: The interface comes pre-programmed for all of your compatible vehicle's factory SWC functions and does not require programming, unless you wish to re-assign the SWC functions to different buttons. The SWC functions can be easily programmed (see instructions). The interface will retain programming even if your vehicle's battery is disconnected. The SWC harness contains a Blue/Yellow wire and a 3.5mm connector (you will only use one of the connectors, based on your type of aftermarket radio)

  • The Blue/Yellow wire supports Kenwood, Newer JVC, OEM and Blaupunkt radios.
  • The 3.5mm jack supports Alpine, Jensen, Older JVC, Clarion, Pioneer, Sony, Valor, and Dual radios.
  • Not compatible with Soundstream head units.

RadioPRO App: PAC offers a Windows compatible RadioPRO App software program to help you configure the interface.

Q
Prior to purchase i wanna know, if I will be able to hook up my after market subs in place of the purple and green factory sub connections that come in the harness? Sony XAV-AX3200 2010 F150 (no factory sub)
micah  Feb 13, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Micah. Thank you for your question. Aftermarket amplifier can be connected to the pre amp outputs on the new stereo. Only if you intend to use the factory sub would you need to use those purple and green RCAs.
hogan  Feb 13, 2024 (Staff)
Q
Do I have to splice wires from the pig tail that came with the pioneer radio OR just use RP4-RD11?
danae  Jan 01, 2024
1 answer
A
You will need to connect the wires from your radio's harness to the PAC RP4-FD11, Danae. We provide Mastersheet install instructions when available with every order, and lifetime Technical Support.

Q
Will this work with any aftermarket head unit? Like an Amazon one?
curtis  Sep 10, 2023
1 answer
A
You can use the PAC RP4-FD11 with almost any brand radio that fits your specific vehicle, Curtis. What may not work specifically is the steering wheel controls, as we can only guarantee those with certain brands and the PAC RP4-FD11. You need to select which radio you are using with the PAC interface and with some off brands that are not listed those steering wheel audio control features will not work but the radio should still power on and function if the PAC RP4-FD11 is a match for your specific vehicle. Depending on your specific vehicle year, make, model and trim you may need additional parts like a dash kit and antenna adapter for full installation if you have the radio already. We are always here to help so if you need confirmation of all the install items, do not hesitate to give us a call at 1-800-324-9695 and we would be happy to help!

Q
Where should the purple and green RSE RCA conn plug into on the Boss be7acp ?
jim  Aug 19, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Jim, and thank you for your purchase. Those are for a factory rear seat entertainment system, to get audio from a factory DVD player to play thru the vehicles speakers. If your vehicle has that DVD system, the Purple, and Green RSE RCA plugs go into the stereos RCA auxiliary inputs on the back of the stereo. If your F-350 does not have the rear seat system, you dont have to connect them.
hogan  Aug 19, 2023 (Staff)
Q
Can this units wiring be used like a T-Harness? Can i run my amp outputs back through the factory wiring to the door speakers?
nathaniel  Mar 25, 2023
1 answer
A
This wouldn't function quite like a T-harness. It is intended to help replace the factory radio. However, if you're replacing the radio in a non-amplified factory system, and if you're also using an aftermarket amplifier, then it would be possible to connect back into the factory speaker wire through this harness.
zachary  Mar 26, 2023 (Staff)
Q
I have a 2010 Mercury Milan with the Sony factory system (amp, speakers). Once connected, does this allow for my new stereo to send line level OR speaker level audio to the Sony amp? Seems to me the harness would need to tap into line level from head unit so its not sending a speaker level signal to the amp.
kevin  Oct 10, 2022
1 answer
A
This one only would send a line level to the factory subwoofer, Kevin. This interface has speaker level inputs only really. Two RCAs on this interface feed the factory subwoofer like mentioned above but the other four RCAs on this interface do not connect to preouts on the head unit. Two are for an Aux input and two are rear seat entertainment for models that have that feature. If you are having any issues at all with install or setup, make sure you give us a call at 1-888-292-2575 and our Technical Support team can help! We are available 9-8 weekdays and 10-7 weekends eastern time.

Will this use the existing microphone already in my 2010 F150 FX4?
christopher  Oct 06, 2022
1 answer
A
This would not use the factory microphone in your truck. Generally, it is necessary to use the new microphone included with the aftermarket radio that is being installed.

Q
Will this retain my back up camera? 2012 Ford Escape limited with navigation radio
jaime  Aug 15, 2022
1 answer
A
This interface does not retain the OEM back up camera in that vehicle, no. You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
Do I need an additional antenna adapter also or does this harness already do that for Ford fusion adding aftermarket Kenwood?
jeff  Jun 12, 2022

A
Good question. That PAC adapter does not provide any antenna adapter and typically you will need one for a Ford Fusion. Please give us a call at 800.324.9695 so our advisors can find the correct antenna adapter for the year of your vehicle.

After install, unit contantly cycles from radio to Aux input to BT audio. any ideas? Steering control does not work either. 2010 F-150 FX2 Jensen Car689
jeffrey  May 17, 2021
1 answer
A
Recheck the Pac harness. Make sure all connections are made well. Also, make sure that the steering wheel connection (3.5mm plug) is properly connected. Also, make sure that the Pac Harness is set to the appropriate number that corresponds to your Jensen. I think it's #7, this is located on the Pac module. Try this, if still not working, try reprogramming the Pac module. You can find the reprogramming instructions in the box that came with the Pac Harness, if not, you can contact Pac diron their website or crutchfield if you bought from them. If still not working, unit could be defective or the radio may be. Hope this helps. Blessings to you

Q
Will this Harness and Interface retain the AUX and USB port that come factory in the center console. I'm assuming they were made for the SYNC system but i would like to keep function of those two ports in a 2012 Ford Fusion?
juan  Feb 08, 2019

A
I have a 2011 f150 with the same sync system with those 2 ports. They still have power but don't connect to the stereo. So the USB can still be used to charge devices. If you buy a stereo that will retain the sync then they should still work for that. I did not because I didn't like sync anyways

I have a 2007 Ford Expedition I installed in with a Clarion radio and GPS and I'm only able to use the volume control, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It will tell you what you might use it for there is a setting on the box make sure you switch it to what you need. Good luck, call Cruutchfields there techs are great..

i have a 2008 Escape XLT, which does not have SWC (just cruise control) or a factory amp. is this item overkill or can i just buy a wiring harness? it's been a while since i've installed a car stereo, but i've never had to use one of the blue things before. usually a $10 wire harness covers it. Thanks.

Yes, this is not necessary for your application.
jeff  Nov 26, 2014
A
David, I don't now why you would want this PAC RP4-FD11 interface? This is basically for SWC (steering wheel control) and it worked great for me! I didn't spend $149 on it either!!! I just bought PAC RP4-FD11 05-Up Ford/Linc/Merc interface/SWI Item #: 541RP4FD11 for my Daughter's 2006 Milan and it worked GREAT with the JVC KWR500 CD Receiver. You do have to pair them up at the end BEFORE you push everything back into the dash! I would THINK just the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Kit Late Models, DD or the Ford wire Harness for Ford/Linc/Merc/Hyun 03-up woukld be all you need plus the Chrysler/GM/Ford Antenna Adapt Motorola M to OEM antenna F hook-up. I used to install radios in cars back in the 70's, Boy, times have changes with easier hook-ups with cable plugs! Whew,,,,,,,, my neck would be sore back under those dashes! lol. I had no problems but YOUR hook-up should be easier with out SWC and NO amp! Good Luck and use your cell phone to call their Install Support Team, I am sure they will help you out if you get stuck?
tom  Nov 24, 2014
A
This is just if you have steering wheel switches to turn up volume, source, or change channels. If you do not have those on steering wheel you don't need this item. I have a 2010 Edge with steering wheel controls and had to have this to operate radio from the steering wheel.
chad  Nov 24, 2014
A
You only need it if you have steering wheel controls and want to use them for the aftermarket stereo. I have the steering wheel control for the stereo but decided not to use this, since i could just as easily reach the stereo. Your cruise control will still work without it, so you will have no use for this.
james  Nov 24, 2014
A
I purchased this to retain the steering wheel controls, factory amp, and factory auxilary imput. Without needing those, i dont see any reason why you would need this interface. The regular wiring harness should suffice.

Q
Hey I have a question for all using the product. If you were to do this after it was plugged in are you able to unplug the interface and do the process again? I'm not getting anything out of my SWC at all. ** Radio Select Switch: The radio select rotary switch on the side of the interface must be adjusted to the proper radio setting before plugging the interface into the vehicle.**

Q
Hi ... did you install the PAC RP4-FD11 in a 2010 Ford Fusion? I recently installed mine that I got from CrutchField. It works well and all SWC functions are fine. What I have question about is if your LED screen (my car is SE model) shows the clock anymore? I lost the clock display functionality, plus it always shows "DVD" in upper corner. Just wondering if this is typical behavior with other people. Thanks.
eric  Jan 16, 2014
6 answers
A
Actually I ended up returning mine. In the end I could not justify the money and the cuts to the wireing harness for the stearing wheel controls. I can reach the stereo as easily as I can reach the steering wheel controls. I would not expect that to be normal behavior, since my understanding was that this would make your steering wheel controls work like a remote. Not that it would come in as a seperate line-in. This might be worth asking Crutchfield or anyone else running your stereo. On a side note, did you make the same mistake on the wiring so that your stereo does not dim with the interior lights? Ford uses a different wire than the harness shows. I need to go back in and make the change, but waiting until a nice warm day and that I feel up for it. Good Luck

I was sent this question, but I'm sorry I can't offer any assistance. Mine was in an explorer that didn't have the screen. Put in your car, go to stereos, and click in the top bar. It has "important info" about you particular car. Should describe if that screen will or will not work with an aftermarket radio

I did have my head unit installed by a local shop this time. My 2012 Escape Limited has the LED screen on the upper center dash as well. Mine shows temperatures, outside temperature, direction and it reads "Audio" and in upper left it reads "DVD"

I do not have the car anymore but if I remember right, it did knock out the clock function like you say.

I did some research prior to the install and found that some features stop working intermittently and that the clock feature from the screen does not work. I decided to not use install it because of the integration it requires. Since then I have sold the fusion and bought a new vehicle. Sorry I could be of more help with your issue. You could always try contacting a reputable car audio store. They should be able to help you without any fees.
