Features

Radio Replacement Interface (for Mazda): The PAC RadioPRO 4 Radio Replacement Interface (RP4-MZ11) allows the replacement of the original factory radio in select Mazda vehicles with an upgraded aftermarket head unit. • Factory amplified audio system (including Bose)
  • Steering wheel controls (SWC)
  • Factory message display
  • Rear seat entertainment (RSE)
  • Navigation based outputs (including vehicle speed sensor, parking brake, & reverse)
  • Accessory 12-volt output
  • Warning chimes
Note: Premium factory amplified systems fader must be adjusted through the RP interface.

Vehicle Compatibility: The RadioPRO 4 (RP4-MZ11) is compatible with select 2006-2015 Mazda vehicles with factory CAN databus radios. Compatible vehicles as of 7/31/2019 include -

Make Model Year
Mazda 2 Series 2011-2012
3 Series 2008-2015
5 Series 2010-2015
6 Series 2009-2015

CX-7 2007-2012
CX-9 2007-2015
MX-5 Miata 2006-2015
RX8 2009-2011
Note:
  • If using this interface in a Mazda CX-5, all vehicle settings must be finalized before removing the factory radio.
  • The following vehicles (RX-8, 2007-2009 CX-9 w/non-nav radio, Miata) will not provide a VSS signal as this information is not on the data bus.
  • The following vehicles (RX8, 2007-2009 CX7, 2010 Mazda 5/Miata) will not provide a reverse output as this information is not on the data bus.
  • The following vehicles (RX-8, Miata) will not provide a parking brake output as this information is not on the data bus.
  • The following vehicles (2007-2009 CX-9, 2007-2009 CX-7) have a speed based parking brake wire that will provide a negative trigger until the vehicle is going at least 4 mph.
  • This interface provides requisite data commands to retain the A/C compressor function in 2010-up Mazda CX-9 vehicles.

SWC Compatible: The interface comes pre-programmed for all of the vehicle's factory SWC functions and does not require programming, unless you wish to re-assign the SWC functions to different buttons. The SWC functions can be easily programmed; see control settings and functions below. The interface retains programming even if your vehicle's battery is disconnected.

The Blue/Yellow wire supports Kenwood, Newer JVC, OEM and Blaupunkt radios. The 3.5mm jack supports Alpine, Jensen, Older JVC, Clarion, Pioneer, Sony, Valor, and Dual radios. Not compatible with Soundstream head units.

OEM LCD Compatible: The PAC RadioPRO 4 Interface (RP4-MZ11) retains the vehicle's OEM LCD, so you can still access your vehicle settings. To access the vehicle setting menu, press and hold the Mode button on the SWC until "Setup Menu" is displayed on the LCD screen. Use the Arrow Down on the SWC to scroll through the options. Once the option you wish to select is displayed, press the Mode button on the SWC to advance to the next step.

  • Change Text: Allows you to enter custom text for the LCD screen's default display. Once this is selected, you can use the Volume Up & Down buttons to select the character position and the Arrow Up & Down buttons to select the character. Once you have set your custom text, do not press any buttons for 8 seconds and the programming function will time out and return to the default display.
  • Set Clock: Allows you to set the clock on the LCD screen. Once this is selected you can use the Arrow Down button on the SWC to choose a clock set mode. Once your mode is displayed, press the Mode button on the SWC to select. Follow the instructions on the LCD screen to set the clock.
  • Display Info: Allows you to change vehicle info display such as MPG, miles to empty, etc. Once this is selected, follow the instructions on the LCD screen to change the vehicle info display. Once on the desired display, do not press any buttons for 8 seconds and the programming function will time out and return to the default display.
  • User Options: Allows you to turn off SWC text or reset options to default. SWC text shows you on the LCD screen which button you are pressing on the SWC. Resetting options to default will set the custom text back to audio and if equipped, set the Bose amp settings back to zero. Once this is selected you can use the Arrow Down & Up buttons on the SWC to scroll between SWC Text or Reset. To select either of these press the Mode button. Follow the instructions on the LCD screen for each individual selection.
  • Amp Settings: Allows you to turn Center Point off/on (when available). Allows you to adjust Center Point gain, fader and amp gain, This feature will only be seen on 2007+ CX-7 & CX-9.
  • Exit: Allows you to exit the menu and return to the default display.

Rear Seat Entertainment: The RP4-MZ11 will allow the original factory DVD player and rear screen to function independently from the newly installed aftermarket radio. A/V will be passed from the factory DVD player to the rear screen and audio can be heard through the headphones. A/V cannot be passed from the factory DVD player to the aftermarket head unit.

Radio Select Switch: The radio select rotary switch on the side of the interface must be adjusted to the proper radio setting before plugging the interface into the vehicle.

I purchased a head unit with a screen and I believe the head unit does not have a preamp in it therefore probably why I don't have audio output. Will this fix my issue so the amps come on with this harness?

There are very few headunits with out a pre amp in them.. in fact I can't think of a single double din that doesn't. First thing fist is figuring out what vehicle you have, if said vehicle has a factory amplified system and what harness adapter is installed with the new head unit right now? Chances are either you don't have something hooked up right, you blew a fuse, or you have the wrong harness adapter in there now and need to figure out what the correct harness is suppose to be.

This wiring interface does work in 2012 Mazda 3 vehicles to help install aftermarket radios. Other gear is needed and will vary depending on the system that came in your Mazda and the radio being installed. We have advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 that can help recommend all the parts that will be needed for your setup

Q
Will this end up bypassing the factory amp? I have mazdaspeed 3withbose system and I don't want to lose sound quality
karson  Mar 11, 2021
1 answer
A
I had a 3 with the Bose system (non-nav version), not the speed 3, and I'm not sure how different the systems are. In my experience, it will not bypass the factory amp; however, I experienced significant ground-loop interference with my first try. After a return and replacement of the interface, the interference was better. It was not noticeable on louder songs, but on softer songs the whine was fairly noticeable. I double checked all connections, reground to the frame, and even replaced the battery and alternator (needed to be done anyways). There was only a marginal decrease in interference. Basically, you'll be taking a risk, but there aren't many other options if you want to upgrade your HU and keep your steering wheel controls.

I have installed a Pioneer AVH 1500 into a 2010 Mazda 6 without the bose premium system. Do I have to cut the RCA ends off and connect them to my Pioneer AVH 1500's speaker wires on the stereo harness? The speakers are VERY quiet using the RCA's alone.

Vehicle: 2012 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring Options: -Bose -Touch Screen Navigation -BackUp Camera -BlueTooth -Stereo and BlueTooth Steering Wheel Controls -A/C & Heat Controls are manually controlled by 3 knobs just below the In dash double din touchscreen stereo (A/C & Heat controls are not integrated into the factory head unit. I have two questions: 1. Will this adapter allow me to connect an aftermarket kenwood dvd head Unit's wire harness to my factory wire harness and prevent me from burning up my stock OEM amp? 2. Or, Does the supplied wire harness that is recommended by Crutchfield when I input my year make and model and options ... does that wire harness have everything integrated to allow the after market head unit work with the OEM Bose amp and speakers. My main concern is getting the right adapter or wire harness or whatever I need to connect an after market stereo to my factory wire harness and prevent anything from breaking or burning up. I cannot afford to burn up my factory amp and buy another one. Any & All help is very much appreciated. Thank you In advance!

1 answer
A
Hi Mathew, thank you for your question. The PAC RP4-MZ11 interface is the correct wiring harness you will use to replace your stock stereo with an aftermarket Kenwood unit. This harness will retain the use of your factory amplifier and your factory steering wheel mounted audio controls, and will not cause your stock amplifier to overheat. However, this harness/interface unit will not retain your factory backup camera. We do have the additional wiring you will need in order to retain that feature. Please chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695. They will be happy to go over the wiring with you, and ensure you are receiving the gear you need for your particular application.

I know this is compatible with my 2010 Mazda 3, but is it compatible with a JVC KW-SX83BTS head unit? I'm not sure which connectors to look for.
c.  Sep 27, 2019

A
This item provides the link to the factory harness. The new radio wires are left ready to connect to whatever new head unit you buy. For ease of use, I bought this, and the Advanced Ready Harness Service. This made it so I plugged one end into the factory harness, and the other into my new head unit. Easy! Getting the dash apart to get to it all of it, not so much ;)
laura  Oct 08, 2019
A
The only direct connection from this unit to my Sony was a 3.5mm jack that looks like a head phone jack. It was labeled remote or steering wheel control (SWC). My cursory look at the JVC did not look like it had that connection but you can look at the back to see.

I have a 2008 mazda 3 with manual ac controls no bose and 6 speakers and want to keep the lcd display above my radio to still work along with the clock and temp will this do that? I have been told both yes and no
eric jacob  Feb 25, 2019
1 answer
A
This interface will retain the vehicle's OEM LCD, so you can still access your vehicle settings and set the clock. I don't have anything specifically listing the temp display, but I don't expect it to stop working. It will not send any information from the new radio to it My Bio: https://www.crutchfield.com/bio/Paul

My aftermarket stereo does not use a dimmer wire on the stereo harness but it does use the 3.5mm input from this adaptor. The adaptor has a dimmer wire on the vehicle harness and a dimmer wire on the adaptor harness. I own a Kenwood DNX-9980HD and used the supplied Mic in my install. I removed the factory Mic and ran the new one to that location and mounted it there. You can't even notice that it has been swapped. Not sure if OEM Mic worked or not never tried hope that helps some.
nicholas f  Jan 19, 2014
A
The original microphone cannot be used with an aftermarket system. The microphone that comes with an aftermarket system is designed for that stereo mostly. There is no harness adapter to enable the use of the original mic. I would not recommend using the factory mic with an aftermarket stereo system. It may cause audio problems for the user on the other end of the line.
