Installation Note: Some newer vehicles require a special interface for this installation. Click here to see if you need an interface to install the SWI-RC adapter in your vehicle. If you see one, add it to your cart along with this adapter.

You want to install an aftermarket stereo in your vehicle, but you hate to give up the convenience of your factory steering wheel radio controls? No problem. PAC's SWI-RC adapter allows you to use the steering wheel audio controls in a wide variety of vehicles to command select radios from Alpine, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony.

Installation is straightforward — connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and your stereo, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. The direct connection to the stereo eliminates the need for an infrared emitter, allowing the interface to function even in bright sunlight. Step-by-step LED confirmation makes programming easy. Once connected, the SWI-RC's failsafe memory will learn up to 12 stereo functions, retaining them even if battery power is interrupted. Dimensions: 2"W x 7/8"H x 2-7/8"D. Warranty: 1 year.

Important Note: On some vehicles, you may need a voltmeter to locate the correct wires to connect to the SWI-RC. If you have no car audio installation experience, you should consider professional installation. The SWI-RC works with most Alpine, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony stereos that have a wired remote control input port or a dedicated steering wheel input, but please call or email us to confirm compatibility with your radio.

Wiring Advisory: You'll usually have to tap into one to three wires in your vehicle at the radio location to connect this interface. If you're using a PAC OEM integration adapter to connect your new car stereo to your vehicle, then it most likely will have a prewired connector for this PAC steering wheel audio control adapter. In these cases, no additional wiring in required. PAC does provide custom wiring instructions for all confirmed compatible vehicles on their website.

What does a steering wheel audio control adapter do?

Many people aren't thrilled with the sound of their car's factory radio, but don't want to replace it because they'll lose those convenient audio controls on the steering wheel. For most vehicles, you can purchase an adapter that allows you to use those controls to run a new car stereo, so now you can have great sound and convenience too. Even cooler, if your new stereo has iPod controls, you can use your steering wheel controls to run your iPod.

Overview: The PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Interface lets you retain steering wheel control functions when replacing the factory radio in select vehicles with an aftermarket head unit that is OEM steering wheel control compatible.

Wiring Advisory: You'll usually have to hardwire this adapter into your vehicle's wiring. In most vehicles, the factory radio plug does not have a wire dedicated to the steering wheel audio controls, so splicing & soldering is often required. PAC does provide custom wiring instructions for all confirmed compatible vehicles on their website.

Compatible Aftermarket Head Units: The PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Interface is compatible with the following steering wheel remote ready aftermarket head units.

  • Alpine, Clarion, Dual, Jensen Pioneer, Sony, and Valor: The aftermarket head unit must be equipped with a 3.5mm steering wheel input jack.
  • JVC & Kenwood: The aftermarket head unit must be equipped with a blue/yellow steering wheel input wire. (Not compatible with Kenwood KDC-BT318U, KDC-BT558U, KDC-BT758HD, KDC-X598, KDC-X798, or KMR-D558BT.)

Note: Not compatible with Rosen, CarShow, or Parrot receivers.

Vehicle Application: The PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Interface is compatible with models from the following car manufactures; Acura, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, GMC, Harley Davidson, Honda, Hummer, Hyundai, Infiniti, Isuzu, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes, Mercury, Mini, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, Porsche, Saab, Saturn, Scion, Suzuki, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Note: The PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Interface retains programming even if your vehicle's battery is disconnected.

Compatibility Notes:

  • The Clarion CZ500 does not support remote Bluetooth controls.
  • The JVC KW-NT1 and KW-NT3HDT do not support preset up/down from steering wheel controls.
  • The Pioneer AVIC-F series radios do not interpret radio preset seeking commands. This is a limitation of the radio, not the SWI-RC.
  • Pioneer head units with Bluetooth feature, the steering wheel controls will not adjust the phone call volume. The phone call volume must be adjusted on the face of the Pioneer head unit. This is a limitation of the radio and not the SWI-RC.
  • Only the Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT, Z120, Z130, and AVIC-X920BT, X930BT will support the voice recognition function via wired remote input.

Resistor Kit: Some vehicles have a separate wire for each of the steering wheel buttons. Use the resistor kit for steering wheel push buttons that do not already have a resistor network connected to them. The resistor kit includes the following resistors:

  • 47 Ohms (yellow, purple, black, and gold bands)
  • 100 Ohms (brown, black, brown, and gold bands)
  • 150 Ohms (brown, green, brown, and gold bands)
  • 560 Ohms (green, blue, brown, and gold bands)
  • 1000 Ohms (brown, black, red, and gold bands)
  • 1500 Ohms (brown, green, red, and gold bands)

  • 5100 Ohms (green, brown, red, and gold bands)

0.47uF Capacitor: In the rare case where your vehicle's steering wheel buttons are intermittent or the aftermarket radio sometimes functions by itself, the enclosed 0.47uF capacitor can be installed to solve this issue. The 0.47uF capacitor can be connected between the SWI-RC interface's white and black wires. Connect the lead of the supplied capacitor to the SWI-RC's white wire and the remaining lead to ground.

Does not work with Honda Pilot 2006 EX

Written By Sean, Princeton, NJ on Tuesday, December 23, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This kit is a waste of my time and money. Thanks to Crutchfield they let me return for a full refund. The instruction is a mess. It talks about how to connect it to my car's OEM radio connectors. But I got this kit to replace my OEM radio, so I need to connect it to the Metra 70-1721 Receiver Wiring Harness. It says to connect the white wire to pin 3. The problem is that Pin 3 on the Metra Harness is an empty hole, and there are three white wires.

Pros: None

Cons: Does not work. The instruction is minimal and confusion.

PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Adapter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The gray and white wire with yellow spots is available to tap into in the opening of the radio. It is not necessary to remove the cover of the steering column to access the wire. This wire was plugged into the radio via a separate connector. Be sure to take note that a separate programming is required for this buttons on the steering wheel. The R/T and mute button are not programmable. Somewhat confusing but doable.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed this on my 2005 f150 about a week ago, and so far, no complaints! Install was simple because I was replacing a different SWI unit that was not compatible with my head unit. I have a Pioneer AVIC F700BT, which did have mixed reviews about the functionality with this unit, but have had no issues.

Pros: Simple connecter to unplug and replug when swapping out different SWI's within the PAC brand, instructions clearly explained programming.

Cons: Instruction manual could be a little better.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When I first hooked it up it worked perfect. Then next time I used it the volume down wouldn't work. After and hour of driving it began to work but now sometimes none of the buttons work. Not sure what the problem is. It may have something to do with the low temp lately as it seems to work once the car has warmed up.

Pros: Easy to program and install (ounce you get you bearings).

Cons: Some functions don't work all the time. Not sure if unit is defective or if it is just too cold right now.

Works As Advertised

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this SWI-RC with a Pioneer FH-X720BT receiver in a 2009 Camry LE (originally with base audio).

Pros: Fairly simple to install & program if you read over the directions a few times prior to actually taking the steps.

Cons: Most challenging part of install was finding the proper 3 factory steering wheel control wires from the Toyota harness. The PAC instructions (pin diagram) was accurate, but I double-checked versus a Toyota wiring diagram. I wanted to be 100% certain before cutting the wires from the factory harness to connect to the adapter.

Decent product, ridiculous install

Written By Nate, MI on Saturday, December 13, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wanted to keep my steering wheel controls so I took the chance with this adapter. Even with the "detailed" instructions from the PAC website (some broken steps with one picture with arrows pointing to a wire, like a 10 year old setup the instructions), it still requires a few hours and several re-reads. I only had to splice into one wire, but in today's world why should I be required to splice into factory wires? It took a few hours to install because
1. the one wire I had to use on the adapter was not long enough to go from the radio area to where I had to splice into, so I had to extend the wire by soldering another wire - PAC could honestly add 6-8 inches to the wires to make it easier. If someone didn't need the extra wire, they could clip it, rather than making people hodge-podge something together
2. After extending the wire, I had to snake it through my dash, and
3. I just took my time. Programming the unit wasn't horrible, but took me a few tries because I would start the process and when I looked down to read the directions and waited longer than 5 seconds, the unit stopped the programming mode, so I'd have to restart.

All in all, its a solution but seriously PAC needs to come up with a better solution so people don't have to splice wires. I've only had this in one day but thus far no issues. I have this dreaded feeling that something will break or stop working down the road.

Pros: Does what it says it will when done correctly

Cons: Install is not overly complicated, just ridiculous in that you have to splice into your factory wires, which runs the risk of screwing something up and also the wires may not be long enough from the unit to where you need to go in the dash.

Had no problem installing with Crutchfield's great team. The volume, channels, and everything the old buttons used to do still work and much better. Even lets you answer the phone where the feature was not available before.

Cons: None that i can think of.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got it installed and it works great, but I had to call the manufacturer a couple times to ask questions. The directions are not great for DYI installs. On my Lexus, I had to splice three wires into the auto side of one of the car's factory harnesses (black-white, white and black). Programming sounds difficult, but isn't. Just follow directions.

too simple

Written By Ed S, Nebraska on Wednesday, December 03, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

There's nothing to this. I read, and re-read, the instructions looking for the difficult part. Just solder on the power, ground, and one signal lead. Clip off the non-used wires just to keep things clean. Follow the programming instructions and send your daughter back to college happy.

Cons: Wasn't able to replicate one of the functions from stock. What had been "scroll down" is now "scroll through radio bands".

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this item to install with my Pioneer stereo that I also bought from Crutchfield. I read the instructions with the item and all the tips on the website. I wired it up and had the item trying to recognize the steering wheel controls on my vehicle but it never would. I called Crutchfield support and they were very helpful with other ideas to try and get it working but in the end it still never worked for me. I got tired of messing with it after several hours and returned it.

Pros: Great idea

Cons: Poor result for me. I'm sure it works well with most people judging by other reviews but I wasn't able to get it working correctly.

Works alright, confusing to set up and sync with the steering wheel

Cons: confusing configuration

Written By consumer, denver, co on Tuesday, November 11, 2014

This would have been a lot better with a wiring harness, You have to get into wires for the car and it was difficult even for two professional installers. The only control on my car that works is the sound, the up and down and the source don't work even after contacting Crutchfield technical support. I would suggest getting a control specifically for your car and not this universal one

Pros: The sound from my stereo wheel work

Cons: Nothing else works

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I love this thing, it was so nice to be able to keep my factory steering wheel buttons. Incredibly easy to install. Don't be intimidated, its actually VERY straight forward and easy. If you can install a radio, you can certainly install and program this. I love the fact that I can custom program my steering wheel buttons to whatever functions I want. I was able to program one of the buttons to activate Siri on my iPhone, which gives me a complete hands-free connection to my phone and music. GREAT product!

Pros: install and programming is a breeze. The ability to customize each button is a really handy feature.

Cons: none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read several reviews of this product before adding it to the while purchasing a new JVC head unit for my daughter's RAV4 and based on those reviews, I thought it might be a bit of a pain to configure. Nothing could be further from the truth. I WOULD have preferred to have a factory plug adapter available to prevent the need to clip wires but in truth, it's not the end of the world. I simply left enough wire to reconnect the factory plug in the unlikely event we put the original radio back in. As others have stated, go to the PAC website and download vehicle and radio specific instructions. With those in hand, this thing is chimp simple to install and program. Using the included directions might be more daunting for some.

Pros: Works just as advertised

Cons: Quite a number of unneeded wires for some's a bit of a bundle to carefully tuck away in the dash.

Highly Recommended

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed in 1998 Buick Regal. I had my doubts about how well this would work, and I am happy to admit that I was VERY pleasantly surprised. There are a lot of wires hanging out of this thing, but don't panic - take the time to read through the instructions, and then GO ONLINE to the manufacturer's website to make sure you have the most up to date information. My car's installation only used 4 of the wires - ground, 12v constant, 12v switched, and the single wire feed from the steering wheel. Programming was successful on the first try, and the steering wheel controls all work as expected.

Pros: Lets you keep steering wheel controls Extensive documentation Long wiring leads make wiring easy, and allows more options for tucking the device up into the dash

Cons: Some cars could have fairly complex installations Might be tough to hide all the wiring in cramped installations.

Well worth the money. It is nice to be able to keep the functionality of the steering wheel buttons.

Pros: The company has a good website to get detailed instructions for a vehicle specific installation. It does function as promised..

Cons: There are other units out there that will auto program the buttons. This was my first time installing a steering wheel remote adapter, and the programming process is a little cumbersome. Now that I know how to do it, I will use this adapter again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I would love to give this item 5 stars, but because of the difficulty in installation....I have to give it 4. Before the item arrived, I went on their website and entered my model of car and had the exact instructions for installation. The install required cutting a few wires in the factory hardness and splicing it with the PAC adapter. Not a big deal and when I fired up the car, the PAC lit up. After that is where the confusion set it. I thought since I had set the adapter to control my Pioneer via the dial setting that it would be programmed. Wrong. I then dug deeper online and each control (Volume +, Volume -, etc. needs programmed). Once I figured that out, I was able to program it. I have volume +, volume - programmed obviously to control volume, and then the seek + and seek - to go to the next track while playing bluetooth audo, then the MENU button I then programmed to control voice, which with my Pioneer and my iPhone allows me to talk to Siri. I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla, and so far once the keys were programmed, it has worked great.

Pros: Does a great job and do like the ability to program each control

Cons: Instructions, instructions, instructions!

Love it

Written By Steve, Tucson, AZ on Saturday, August 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed the PAC SWI-RC to retain the steering wheel controls on my 2011 Nissan Frontier when I upgraded the head unit to a Kenwood DDX471HD. I've installed dozens of car stereos in my life, so this project was nothing I was concerned about, but I had never installed a steering wheel control interface before. I was dumbfounded at how incredibly difficult it was to install the PAC SWI-RC. Once installed correctly, however, everything worked great. The difficulty with the installation stems from difficult to understand wiring instructions, combined with the fact that you have to rig the connections to two different plugs without the aid of mating plugs like you get for the stereo installation. The OEM vehicle plugs are TINY, and one is under the passenger's seat and NOT labeled "Bluetooth unit" in any way. So once I found the right plugs, finding the right wires to connect was also not simple as the instructions on pin assignments did not exactly match how the plug in the dash was configured (however, the wire colors were correct), The under seat connector it was not clear if the connector was supposed to stay plugged in to the Bluetooth unit or stay unplugged (unplugged worked). Then the song and dance of programming the SWI-RC was also not simple. But now that it's all configured and wired, the unit works great. So I'd give it 1 star for installation, but 4 or 5 stars for functionality.

Pros: Correctly utilizes all the functionality of the steering wheel controls. Price.

Cons: Instructions lack a lot of important details. Lack of harness adapters. Difficult to program.

works great. easy to install and compact

Pros: easy to use and connect to the os-4

Cons: no cons with this product, it is what it is supposed to be. be careful if you are using it to bridge to a unit that has SWC built in. You have to program the SWI but you also have to use the units SWC to get it to work. it took 4 calls to tech support to resolve the install issues. the last tech finally noticed that i had to use the head unit swc to get the connection to work.

PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Adapter

Written By Anonymous, las Vegas nv on Sunday, July 27, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My experience with this product was less than good. I had a bad experience with an outside installer and got a good deal on a Kenwood dnx570hd as a result. I ordered all the necessary installation hardware from Crutchfield, whose shipping and customer service were all top notch. After receiving all the product I called about the install kit and the tech schooled me quickly and answered any and all questions I had. This piece on the other hand was not so simple. I went thru the 3 instruction books and found what I needed for my specific car, and quickly realized this was not going to be easy. I went to a different installer to have them take care of the install, and even the MECP certified professional couldn't get this thing to program. I ended up buying a different steering wheel control and am in the process of sending this back to Crutchfield. Kudos to Crutchfield for great service! But to install this yourself, you will need a good 6hrs and a degree in electrical engineering...

Pros: Didn't get that far...

Cons: Insanely difficult instructions, need for in line capacitors specific to certain vehicles, does not auto program.

PAC SWI-RC Steering Wheel Control Adapter

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works well, does what it says it does. However, my cheif complaint is that the instrustions (to which there are about 5 different sets of instructions for each phase of installation) were relatively vague at some points. With some time, persistance, and probably some swear words, you will program this. Just be patient and read through the instructions. I haven't installed a car stereo in many years and never have installed a steering wheel adaptor, so perhaps this is just my experience, I'm confident professionals or people who do this on a regular basis will have little trouble. I could do this again now with little to no problems.

This product fits so many different applications the instructions are so complicated and confusing it would take you for ever to install it. Just go to their website type in your vehicle and get a 2 page detailed easy to follow guide and hook it up in no time.

Pros: Easy to install once you go to their website and get specific instructions for your situation.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It does what it's supposed to do. Crutchfield advisor said it's an easy install. It has terrible instructions and you really need to be careful installing it or know someone that knows their stuff, like a pro. I luckily knew someone and it was still pretty bad. It's necessary to have one with an after market radio on a motorcycle but they really need to simplify it.

Pros: It serves it's purpose

Cons: Too many cons to list. Very complex install

I have a 2009 Suzuki Grand Vitara. My deck is a Pioneer AVIC-7000NEX. This product works with my setup. I have no problems with this product. Read the instructions and everything should work. Don't jump from step 1 to step 5 if instruction sheet states to do so. This installation can be tricky, but it works if you follow the instruction sheet.

Pros: I now have stock steering wheel control for my mew deck

Cons: no cons if it works ;)

I replaced my stock head unit with a Kenwood DDX371. Works fine on my 2011 Toyota Tundra. Dont read included instructions to in depth. Go to PAC's web site to get specific wiring instructions for your vehicle and radio manfacturer and follow those.

Pros: Easy to program and wire.

Cons: included instructions are intimidating.

This is not a bad unit, I did spend some time trying to figure out the instructions, it's some what complicated but it can be done and does work pretty good.

Cons: Somewhat complicated to program.

The PAC SWI-RC recommended by Crutchfield does not work with the Kenwood KDC-BT758HD (as well as the several other Kenwoods that Crutchfield does list as not compatible) I recently purchased the above Kenwood and have spent more than 10 hours pulling the radio out and reinstalling it, rechecking wiring, resistors, etc., while trying to program the SWI-RC to work with this radio. I have done a number of head unit upgrade, installs for friends and family and though not an expert, I do have a reasonable skill factor and until now have been 100%. I finally contacted PAC tech support only to find out that the only PAC that will work with this Kenwood KDC-BT758HD is their SWI-CP5.

Pros: Probably works well like their other steering wheel interface products that I have used in the past.

Cons: Does not work on the several listed Kenwood head units including the KDC-BT758HD that I was told it should work with!

Crutchfield response on Tuesday, July 01, 2014 We followed up with PAC and confirmed what the customer found: Select Kenwood stereos, including the KDC-BT758HD, are not compatible with the SWI-RC. Instead, those stereos need the SWI-CP5. The correct steering wheel control interface will be listed as an accessory for the stereo (found in the Accessories tab of the stereo's web page on our site). SWI-CP5 is a new piece from PAC, so it might not have been in place when this customer ordered his gear.

Easy to set up

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This adapter comes with a ton of paperwork, my recommendation to you is that you go to the PAC web site and locate the instructions for your specific vehicle and print them out, this what I did. It's much easier than weeding through the papers that are in the package PLUS this way you know you have the latest and greatest. I hooked mine up to a pioneer radio in my Ford 500 and got it to work the first time issues.

Pros: Easy to set up, easy to use, and it works.

Cons: None at this time

Worked with tech support on weekends for a month and never got it working. Tech exchanged it multiple times but still doesn't work. Tech Support was great but there's only so much he could do since the device simply doesn't work.

Pros: I wish there was even just one pro. Again I was happy with the efforts of Tech Support.

Cons: Use of the installation instructions was a total nightmare. When we finally got it installed the programming didn't function at all like the instructions. This experience was so bad I doubt that I will be using Crutchfield in the future and never ever purchase a PAC product again.

The PAC unit easily installed in my Harley. Make sure you have a good ground!!! It works great with the thumb controls. The only tricky part was finding the pink wire on the bike that you need to cut and ground. Programming was easy also.

Pros: Easy to install Works great with my 2011 Harley Road Glide

Cons: The instructions look overwhelming. - No worries though!

PAC Steering Wheel Interface-RC Review

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The PAC SWI-RC is very easy to program. Once programmed, I was able to recover most of the original functions of my steering wheel controls. The provided instructions were good for most vehicles, but for my particular vehicle, I had to enlist some help from Crutchfield to customize some wiring and program inputs to maximize the number of functions I could control on my new, aftermarket stereo.

Pros: Very easy to install and program this electronic module to communicate with the car's onboard computer to link the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket stereo.

Cons: Provided instructions from the manufacturer were not completely customized to my vehicle. The Crutchfield technical assistance line help to fill in the details to complete the job.

I'm not cutting wires from my stock harness!

Pros: No idea, didn't install

Cons: Apparently, even with the harness adapter from the Scosche HD7000B kit, you STILL must cut a pink wire from you wire harness and ground it our somewhere. Not acceptable. Returned. I'll have to spend the $$ for a different adapter instead... no cutting there, just plug and play.

Works just fine. The wiring is simple in that you just plug it in. Programming is more complex, but Crutchfield tech support suggested I call when ready to do it, so I did. Very knowledgeable technician stepped me through the process (not at all intuitive) and within a few minutes, it was fully functional.

Pros: Retains functionality of original steering wheel controls (volume and channel scan).

Cons: You will want to phone in to get excellent support for programming.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this in my '06 Audi A4 Avant. I really like this unit. I like that it is programmable, and was able to program it to have a lot more functionality than the OEM Symphony II unit had at the steering wheel. The only issue is that it was difficult to program. I probably went through the programming 10 times to get it right, but those 10 times probably took me 15 -20 minutes, so it's not all that bad. My steering wheel has scrolling controls. The instructions say to push and hold the s/w button until you see the light flash. But for the scrolling controls, you just scroll them 1 click, then immediately go on to the next function. For the push button controls, just push them once, then move on. So it's actually very simple once you figure it out. On the instruction sheet, I just wrote down what button to push/scroll, then flew through the process pretty quickly once I figured out the quirks.

Pros: A lot more customizable control than the OEM unit gave me.

Cons: Occasionally, I have to scroll 2 clicks or push a button twice to get it to take effect. But that may actually be the buttons on my steering wheel, because I think it also did that with the OEM stereo. You also need some space behind the head unit for the box, or would need to attach it somewhere outside the compartment, such as the glove box, and run the wires. With some effort, I got it to fit behind the h/u in my car

Installed in MINI Cooper S Convertible

Written By Ron, Cary, NC on Monday, March 17, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This SWI-RC does the trick! I installed it in my 2005 MINI Cooper S Convertible. But keep in mind, it is VERY important to follow all of the instructions when installing this in the MINI. At first, I had some issues, but this is because I tried to take a short cut. But it all worked out, thanks to Crutchfield's tech support personnel. The issue was that in the instructions, it tells you to locate the wire in the steering column and cut it there. I found the same wire at the wiring harness, but this did not work properly, because MINI/BMW has a K-BUS, and the wire at the head unit wiring harness gets converted from analog to digital somewhere along the way, and you need to pick up the wire in the wiring harness in the steering column where it is still analog. It now works perfectly! Thanks Crutchfield for your help!

Pros: Give me full functionality of my audio controls on the steering wheel. Works with little/no delay.

Cons: Will not work with the phone nor RT buttons if your MINI has handsfree/Bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel. Mine does not have these, but definitely worth noting for those who have a 2006+ model year MINI.

I purchased this so I could keep my SWC when I replaced my radio and was able to wire this myself with a little help from y brother. Since I had to wire it to both the radio and my aftermarket radio interface also had to be wired to the radio we had to fit 3-4 wires together for almost everything. We did not soder like the directions stated; we actually used heat shrink with perfect results.

The programming was only difficult because I overlooked a part of the directions. Once I saw my mistake and was able to correct it the SWC worked just fine.

Pros: Easy to install and program.

I bought this to connect an aftermarket KDC-X597 with my newly purchased 2008 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. The installation instructions were a little confusing but a phone call or two with the great people at Crutchfield sorted everything out.

The unit does the job very well. All the of the steering wheel controls interact flawlessly with my stereo. I was particularly pleased that I was able to program the buttons on my steering wheel for whatever I wanted-regardless of what they were meant to do when the car came from the factory. For example, I programed the "source" button to act as a "pause/play" button.

Pros: Steering wheel buttons work great.

Cons: Installation instructions are somewhat incomplete.

This item works great and has some flexibility as to what you want your buttons to do but more flexibility would be nice. Installation required tapping into some some wires in the vehicle, it would be nice if someone made wiring harnesses for these controls but I guess that is not really a fault of this product. I would highly encourage the purchase of posi-taps or similar product as stripping the middle of the wire and trying to solder that connection inside the vehicle is not very fun.

Pros: works as designed
