So you've got a fantastic new car stereo in your dash, but your iPod cable won't reach from the iPod in your center console to its rear USB input. This PAC 6-ft. extension cable features female and male USB ends, and includes a mounting bracket for a permanent installation, so you can set up a convenient spot for plugging in your iPod or thumb drive.

The cable's female USB end provides a flush-mount design for permanent installation — simply drill a hole into the spot where you'd like to connect your USB devices, then snap in the end of the cable for a factory look. If you'd rather not drill a hole, just snap that end of the cable into the included mounting bracket, then place the bracket in a good place for quick access to your USB devices. Warranty: 1 year.

Q
Is the attached USB cable Apple Certified? I currently have a similar unit in my truck but the cable isn't recognized by apple so my iPhone 6 does not work with it. please let me know if your product is apple certified and can be synced to use Apple Carplay with a Pioneer AVICS unit. Thank You.

I don't know about Apple Carplay since I don't use that but I use my Iphone 6S attached via USB and the music and pandora work with no problems and it shows the album art on the screen so it should work. I've used Amazon music too, but that doesn't show any artwork, but the music plays just fine.

Its just an extension cable. So it doesn't matter. The issue that you are having is either the cable you have is no good or the USB port you are connecting it to is not putting out the proper amperage for your apple device. Any USB extension cord would not have an effect on this that I know of.

I am not sure if this will help or not, but I used this cable with a Kenwood receiver and my iPhone 5s works with it. I'm able to charge my phone with it and the kenwood head unit is able to minimally control the iPhone 5s. It doesn't have CarPlay so I don't know if it would work for you or not. Good luck.

I don't know if it is Apple certified but it works with my i6, i5s, i4 and iPod mini. The only issue is with the mini where it doesn't charge while playing. Charges mini ok when not in use.

Will this work for a thumb drive or for ipod/iphone only?

Depends on what functions the usb port has that you have it connected to. It is just an extension cord from whatever you have it plugged into so all it functions should be available.

I had a JVC radio and was able to use a thumb drive with no problems at all.

Q
Does this extension allow for iPhone 5s control when used with the Kenwood DDX392 and keep all of the functionality from the rear USB port? Does it just essentially allow for relocating the rear USB port?
mike  Dec 10, 2014

A
It would work just as if you plugged your phone into the back usb port with the apple cable. This is just an usb extension cord.
michael  Apr 20, 2016
A
From what I know of it it's just a usb extension
adam m  Dec 10, 2014

Does this allow for charging on the iphone 4, 4s, 5?

Yes it also charges my android. It may go into media mode but it will charge.
james  Aug 29, 2014

As long as the iPhone allows for charging via USB 2.0 protocol then it should work. It charges my Android phone and Blackberry no problem. You for sure have power feed in this connector so I would think it should be fine. That said Apple tends to make its own rules so I would check the user manual of your phone to see if it is a USB compliant device.
paul  Aug 28, 2014

Yes and 5s too.
andrew e  Aug 28, 2014

It charges phones but tries to play music off of the device being charged. Randomly switches too it. Very annoying.

Q
Will this fit into a cigarette lighter hole? I would much rather take one of the lighters out than have to drill a hole in my dash/console.

You would have to epoxy it in place. The pop up tabs won't hold it in place like you think. Look for a pop out tab in the console or dash somewhere (usually next to other accessory buttons) and drill a hole in that. Thats what I did on my ride. Looks factory stock.
michael  Apr 20, 2016
A
yes it does fit, you may have to make a small filler piece, but it will fit!
adam m  Jan 21, 2014
A
yes it well but if your that close to the radio y not use the one in the radio put mine in 98 mustang in remote spot rear off center console
richard a  Jan 21, 2014
A
I am not sure about that. Although, it looks like it came from factory in my dash. It has an insert so it does not look like you just cut a hole. I have mine down by my cigarette lighter and it looks great. I know that's not that answer you were looking for but I hope it helps.
stephen  Jan 21, 2014
A
Yes. Did it that way myself
