The Russound OutBack— indoor or outdoor speaker? Yes!

Russound asks, when you've got terrific speakers like the Acclaim 5 Series OutBack, why limit them? Sure, you can use these speakers in weather-stressed environments like your pool, patio or deck. But they also stand up perfectly to life's other challenges like tax-time in your home office, meal-time in your steamy kitchen, or downtime in your "man-cave." Sealed enclosures, salt-tested marine grade hardware, and aluminum grilles make them tough. Wall mounts and bookshelf feet are included to make them usable anywhere in your home. Flexible placement lets you mount this speaker horizontally, vertically, in corners, on poles, or standing upright.

Upgraded to these speakers from the free ones that were offered with the Sonos ZP120. I think they sound great and suprized by the amount of bass they had outside.

    Pros: Mounts easily.

    Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was unfamiliar with these speakers when I called to talk to a sales rep. I was actually comparing Polk and Yamaha, which seemed to fit my budget best. After hearing about these from the rep and looking at their specs, I decided to give them a try. They had a pair that were open box, too, so I saved a few more dollars. When I got them in, I was surprised at their size. When compared to other outdoor speakers, they seemed to be much larger. They actually weren't that much bigger, but they seemed to be so well made that they compared favorably to a solid indoor speaker. I attached the included brackets to my brick wall under the patio and had them connected in minutes. The push-type connectors were very solid. (I did cheat since I had they guys who ran my surround and sub cables run wires outside at the same time.) I fired up my receiver (Onkyo) and tried the Zone 2 feature with my iPhone. The sound was great and the bass was particularly good for being outside. I am still trying to see if I can adjust the tone for zone 2 at my receiver, but that's not related to the speakers. For the money, I don't see how you could be disappointed. By the way, if you need to install into brick or concrete, I tried these tapping screws that are blue. They use a special bit and once the hole is drilled, they tighten right into the brick. Don't recall the name, but they worked great.

Pros: Great sound, solid bass, well made.

    Cons: None
