Q
I want to use the Russound AB-2.2 to switch between using a McIntosh MC7205 as input (home theater surround) and an Episode EA-DYN-12D-100 multi-channel amp (Sonos controller) to a single pair of M&K speakers. The McIntosh puts out 200W per channel and the Episode puts out 100W per channel. Will this work?

A
Greetings Andrew. Thank you for your question. On paper, it looks as if it will. What you would-be doing is interrupting the signal path from your McIntosh to accomplish this. You will run that clean signal thru a switch which will lose some of that clean signal. On a side note, your McIntosh has 200 watts per channel, and this switch is rated for 150. Chances are that would be okay, chances that this could burn up internally as well. I dont think there will be a lot of options for devices that can do what you are looking to do. For your set up, I would not recommend this.

Hello, can I plug speakers into this device using banana clips?

A
No. This does not have connections for banana plugs. It is designed to accept bare speaker wire.

Q
I'm using this to run a vintage Marantz amp and a new Marantz receiver using the same speakers. I hook up correctly but I have to turn the volume way up on the new Marantz receiver just to hear anything. This doesn't happen with my vintage unit. And it was no happening to my new Marantz receiver until i installed this switch. What can I do to resolve this issue? I am using Klipsch speakers.

Q
can you use two sets of speakers from one source at the same time or do you have choose between A or B?

A
If Russound AB-2.2 is being used to switch 2 sets of speakers from one source, only one set of speakers can be used at a time. This device is actually used to switch two sources or amplifiers between a set of speakers, a speaker selector would be more inline with what you're trying to do and some can run more than one set of speakers from a source at a time when properly hooked up.
jesse  Feb 02, 2018
A
The box itself is one or the other.
jeremy b  Feb 02, 2018

It's designed to play one or the other. You cannot play two sets of speakers at the same time. This is to avoid the situation where you have two sources feeding one speaker at the same time.

Q
Can I still use this with two separate stereo systems which are bi-amped with active crossovers on one pair of speakers? Thanks.

If I understand you correctly you have 4 speaker wires for each speaker. The AB 2.2 can only switch two stereo pairs to one stereo pair output. You would need twice as many connections to do what you want.

The AB-2.2 selector allows you to power a single pair of speakers with either of two amplifiers (There are two input channels to the AB switch and one output channel.) The selector switch isolates one of the input channels (amps) preventing them from both being connected at the same time. I suspect that the AB-2.2 may not be exactly what you are looking for. Russound makes other products which might be closer to what you need. As a note, the internal construction of the AB-2.2 product is solid, but the wire connectors on the box are very small, probably 16gage or less.
