Features

Overview: The Russound PRO series speaker selector (PRO-8HP) is a high efficient dual-source impedance-matching selector. This high-quality speaker selector is designed for use with either 4-ohm or 8-ohm amplifiers and 4-ohm or 8-ohm speakers. The PRO series speaker selector is equipped with a low-frequency protection circuit to reduce subsonic signals which allows high power operation without amplifier shutdown. The PRO series unit also employs audiophile-grade impedance matching autoformers to maintain a safe operating load at the amplifier while distributing maximum power through the system. Autoformers are very efficient because of the small loss incurred as a result of heat dissipation. In addition, the PRO series selector is equipped with a black panel rotary switch , which is used to set the appropriate impedance based on the number of pairs of speakers connected. This switch selects the proper taps of the autoformers, allowing all the amplifier's power to be delivered to your speakers. The PRO series speaker selector can be connected to one or two amplifiers. A front panel button allows switching between the two amplifiers for all speakers connected to the unit.

Note: The Russound PRO series dual source speaker selectors are available in 6-channel, 8-channel and 12-channel.

Dual Source Eight Speaker Selector: The PRO-8HP is a robust, efficient dual-source speaker selector for up to 8 pairs of speakers. Designed for demanding applications, this high-quality speaker selector features a low-frequency protection circuit to reduce subsonic signals. This allows higher power operation without amplifier shutdown.

Two Amplifier Connection: An A/B switch on the front panel allows you to power all your speakers with either of two source amplifiers. The PRO-8HP is designed for use with amplifiers up to 100 Watts per channel RMS continuous and 300 watts per channel peak. The PRO-8HP is also designed for use with either 4- or 8-ohm speakers.

Note: Only one of the two amplifiers connected to the PRO-8HP can be activate; they cannot be both on simultaneously.

Audiophile-Grade Autoformers: The PRO-8HP uses audiophile-grade autoformers for impedance matching to maintain a safe operating load at the amplifier while distributing maximum power throughout your system.

Impedance Switch: A rotary switch on the rear panel sets the appropriate impedance for your amplifier, based on the number of speaker pairs connected.

Speaker Selection: The PRO-8HP features eight buttons on the front panel that allows you to select which speakers are playing (1-8) so you can control speakers in several rooms of your home from one central location. Printed room labels are included so you can label the front-panel of your PRO-8HP.

Connections: The PRO series speaker selector has removable modular snap connectors that provide color-coded wire terminations without the need for set-screws. The PRO-8HP provides four pair of speaker inputs for connecting two amplifiers and sixteen pair of speaker outputs for up to eight pair of speakers. Speaker connections can support multiple speaker pairs wired in parallel or series, provided their combined impedance is a minimum of 4-ohms. The unit's speaker connectors will accept up to 14 gauge wire.

Optional External Volume Controls: If external volume controls (sold separately) are used, connect speaker wire from the appropriate speaker connector on the PRO series selector to the volume control input and from the volume control output to your speaker.

Q
Will this amplifier play 8 speakers in a large place in mono so not to create that weird stereo effect of different sounds from different speakers?

A
Hey John, this is not an amplifier, it will not amplify the signal. As far as producing a mono signal you should be able to do that with some creative wiring. I enjoy the weird stereo sound so mine is connected that way and works great.

Q
I have a 7.1 Surround sound system that is powered by an Integra 30.5 receiver. I have a 2nd audio source from a Distribution Amplifier which streams inputs from the web and a digital music manager. Can the Russound Pro-8HP be used to play the surround speakers when connected, then switch and play the audio through the surround sound speakers when the TV system in not on and vice versa?

Q
I am doing an install in an office environment. Customer wanted 1 speaker in each of 5 offices, 1 in the conference room, 2 in the waiting room, and 2 in the main corridor. So 8 zones total. My question is will this allow only 1 speaker in to work in an individual zone and 2 speakers in another zone? Or do all the zones need to have 2 speakers connected in order to function? Thanks.

Q
Do I need to pair a special amp or receiver with this speaker selector when my plan is to push music to speakers in multiple rooms of the house?

A
No, you will need nothing special. The first paragraph of the description overview I understand to mean that the internal circuitry of this switch allows you to play all 8 zones without overloading the source equipment. It also has the option of using two sources.

My 3 zone Denon receiver is hooked to an amplifier - amplifier to Russound Pro-8HP speaker selector - from PRO- 8 HP to Niles volume controls to speakers in different rooms. So each set of in room speakers have volume control capability. Hope this helps Matt.

You will need a fairly strong amp to power your speakers because the receiver generally is not powerful enough. I used a Crown XLS25000 amp to provide enough power all the speakers. Remember that the Russound PRO-8HP is only splitting the sound provided to it so that you can choose which zones you want music played in. The Russound PRO-8HP does not provide any amplification. You will definitely need at least 400 watts at 8ohms to drive your speakers. maybe more if your speakers are large.
