Features

Overview: The Russound SDB Dual Source Speaker Selector is a high-power, dual-source, autoformer-based speaker selector with individual volume controls for 4 rooms or areas. Dual-source operation allows you to choose either one or two different amplifiers or receivers to power selected speakers independently. Each room has its own input selector (A-B), volume control, and on/off switch, located on the front of the unit. The unit works with all speakers rated from 4-8 ohms and amplifiers rated for 4-8 ohms.

Controls: The SDB-4.1 has the following front panel controls:

  • Volume Control: four rotary volume controls, each with a 12-step adjustment.
  • On/Off Switch: four 2-position push button switches (Out=Off, In=On)
  • Amplifier Selector: four 2-position push button switches (Out=Amp A, In=Amp B)

Removable Speaker Terminals: There are four removable 4-pole speaker output terminal blocks and two removable 4-pole speaker input terminal blocks, each of which can accept up to 12-gauge wire. The terminals can support multiple speaker pairs wired in parallel or series, provided their combined impedance is a minimum of 4 ohms. A small slotted screwdriver is required for attaching the terminals to your speaker wires.

Impedance Setting: The impedance of the autoformers is set at the factory at 4x. A chart in the Installation Manual can help you determine the proper impedance setting for the number and impedance of your speakers. If certain applications require changing the impedance setting, the cover can be removed to access the jumpers inside.

Labels: There are 52 pre-printed and 8 blank label stickers included for easy identification of the front panel controls.

Customer Q&A

Q
Could both amp inputs,A and B,be listened to at the same time?

1 answer
A
You can input two amplifiers simultaneously, then select which amplifier plays in each zone by the A/B switches.

Q
So the impedance will self calibrate to match my specific combination of speakers and sources?
james  Oct 30, 2019

A
Hi James, thank you for your question. While the Russound SDB-4.1 does offer impedance matching, you do need to manually set the impedance based on the amount of speakers you will be using, and their impedance. There is a chart within the manual of this selector that will help you out with setting that. Feel free to chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695, if you have other questions. They will be happy to help you out!

Q
Will it work with a 100 Watt per channel receiver?

A
James, it should work. I use mine to control 2 pairs of Klipsich outdoor speakers and 2 pairs of wall speakers with no problem. The amp is an older NAD 2700 pushing out 150 watts per channel.

Yes. Works great with my 120 wall per channel Harmon Kardon HK3770.
daniel  Oct 30, 2019
A
Specs say it can handle up to 200 watts per channel

I use mine with a Sonos Connect:Amp which has 55 Watts per channel. It seems to work fine. I don't have to turn up the volume past about 1/3 power to have good sound in my rooms. I have 4 pairs of wall mounted speakers connected to the unit.

I have no reason to think that this product will not work with a 100 wpc receiver. It is a well built product, performs very well.

Q
I assume this is able to be set for 8 ohm speakers? I ask because the specs don't list impedance as far as I can find. Thanks.

Yes I have 8 ohms and I use it in a 8 ohm configuration

This unit can be set for multiple ohm settings. It comes from the factory pre set for most applications. My problem was I was using a set of 8 ohms and a set of 4 ohm speakers which it will do but I found with my particular situation I had to use a substantial higher volume settings then running the individual speakers direct from my amp which is a McIntosh MA6600. Hope this helps. Bruce Pageland, SC

Yes, works fine with 8 ohm speakers!
