General Features
Display: The iWay 500c features
a 5" (diagonal) color TFT touchscreen display with a resolution of 320 x 240
pixels. The display is equipped with a super-bright, cold-cathode backlit screen
to give you superb readability, even in bright sunlight. On the right side of
the screen is a blue LED backlit keypad. Note: For touchscreen
maintenance, a micro-fiber towel and a cloth screen cover are included.
Sealed Outer Casing: The
external casing has a watertight seal to prevent internal corrosion.
GPS/WAAS Receiver: This unit
has a built-in, precision 12-parallel channel GPS (Global Positioning System)
receiver which simultaneously tracks multiple satellites to provide the fastest,
most reliable and accurate navigational data under the severest of environmental
conditions. Location accuracy is further boosted through the use of the Wide
Area Augmentation System (WAAS). Improvements in accuracy are approximated to be
within 7 meters.
NAVTEQ Database: The iWay 500c
contains a detailed and highly accurate NAVTEQ turn-by-turn database for the
continental United States and Canada, with audio and visual cues and automatic
recalculation of directions after a missed turns. Maps can be updated through
the internal USB port when connected to a PC.
Internal Hard Drive: The unit
has a 20GB internal hard drive, with 10GB of storage dedicated to built-in,
high-detail mapping and 10GB of storage reserved for MP3 music. Note: The
unit can store up to 5000 songs depending on compression rates and song lengths.
Primary Keys: The front panel
features 5 primary keys:
- Speak/Volume: Press to
repeat the current navigation instruction. Press and hold to adjust the
frequency and volume of spoken commands or music playback.
- Map/Music: Press to toggle
between the two page screens: Map Screen or Music Screen.
- Menu: Press to show menus
and submenus which allow you to select a command or adjust a feature.
- Find: Use to search for
destinations that the iWay 500c will use to generate your routes. Submenus
include: Find Fuel, Find Lodging, Find Restaurants, Find Other
Point-of-Interest (POIs), Recent Finds, Find Address, Find Waypoint, or Go
To Cursor.
- Power/Light: Press to turn
on. Press again for one of three backlight levels or turn off backlight.
Press and hold to turn off.
Main Menu: The Main Menu
contains a handful of options and menus designed to let you customize the
operation of your iWay 500c. The Main Menu includes the following options:
- Screen Setup: lets you
control the visual display: brightness, transparency, contrast, graphical
skin, calibrate touchscreen
- Trip Calculator: helps you
keep track of detailed information concerning your route: current speed,
average speed, maximum speed, trip time, trip distance
- GPS Status: provides
information on the satellite signals monitored by the unit: current position
lock, estimated position error, satellite display, and latitude/longitude
coordinates
- Reset Options: lets you
reset all customizable settings to their factory defaults. It will not erase
any waypoints or recent finds.
- Sound and Voice Setup:
lets you select key sounds, voice instructions, instructions at the halfway
mark, select periodic instruction interval (between 0 and 120 minutes),
voice volume, and music volume.
- Units of Measure: lets you
select units of measure for Speed/Distance (statute or metric), Time Format
(12 or 24 hour), Heading (true or magnetic), Date format (M/D/Y, D/M/Y, or
Y/M/D).
- Safety Mode: Lets you turn
the Safety Mode on or off. When on, the unit configurations are not
accessible while vehicle is in motion. Disabling the Safety mode is intended
to allow passengers only to enter data or configure the iWay 500c. Note:
Because of safety concerns, vehicle drivers should never attempt to
configure, adjust, or enter information into the unit while the vehicle is
in motion.
- Device Information:
shows details on current software version. (Software upgrades are
occasionally offered as free downloads from the Lowrance website.)
Practice Runs: The iWay 500c
has a self-guided Map Mode Practice Run and a Music Mode Practice Run to allow
you to become familiar with the unit and its functions.
Warranty: The Lowrance iWay
500c is covered by a full one-year parts and labor warranty.
Mapping Features
On-Screen Commands: When in the
Mapping Mode, the iWay 500c's touchscreen features a Map Display Toolbar along
the left edge. This toolbar includes the following:
- Clear Cursor: clears the
cursor and the toolbar from the screen, and centers the map on your current
position
- Move Map: lets you easily
shift the visible map area by pressing the button and "dragging" the map
- Zoom Box: lets you draw a
box on the screen and zoom in on the map area within the box
- Zoom In/Zoom Out: changes
the current zoom level in discreet steps, moving in and out from the
cursor's location
Map Orientation: There are two
ways to view the map. The Map Orientation button lets you toggle between North
Up--which always shows the map with North at the top of the screen--and Track
Up--which rotates the map so that the direction you're traveling is at the top
of the screen.
Waypoints: The unit's memory
can contain up to 1000 waypoints--a location, spot or destination
(latitude/longitude) that can be recalled and used at a later time for
navigation purposes. The on-screen Waypoint Information button (a lower case "i"
) appears in the upper right corner of the screen. When pressed, the unit
displays the name of the waypoint, coordinates, altitude, the date and time the
waypoint was created, the distance to the waypoint and bearing from your current
location. In some cases, if the waypoint is also a Point-of-Interest, the street
address and phone number can also be shown.
Map Menu: While in the Mapping
Mode, the Map Menu includes:
- Directions List: Whenever
the unit begins navigating to a destination, a list of all the turns from
the start of the route to the end. Selecting an individual instruction
provides you more detailed information.
- Turn Preview: Turn Preview
is a special screen designed to prepare you for upcoming turns, including an
automatic display of the Turn Preview screen as you approach the
intersection.
- Overlay Data Setup:
Overlay data includes text boxes that appear over the map display containing
information such as the distance to your destination and the distance to the
next turn.
- Routing Options: Used to
control exactly how the iWay generates a route from your current position to
a selected destination. Options include: avoiding left or right
cross-traffic turns, prefer or avoid toll roads or interstates. If you
change the route, you can recalculate the route at the touch of a button.
- Cancel Navigation: When
you've reached your destination, a popup window will ask if you want to
cancel destination. If you choose to cancel navigation, the unit will no
longer generate routes until you select a new destination.
- Auto Zoom: Toggles between
Auto Zoom On or Auto Zoom Off. Auto Zoom attempts to show you the most map
detail possible as you navigate along the route.
- Categories Drawn: Lets you
choose the amount of detail to show on the map. You can choose whether or
not to display waypoints, points-of-interest,, cities, highways, landmarks,
airports, etc.
- Main Menu:
accesses the unit's main menu to
customize the operation of the iWay 500c
Music Player Features
MP3 Player: In addition to
mapping and navigation, the iWay 500c features a built-in digital music player
that supports MP3 and Ogg Vorbis formats.
Play Controls: When in the
Music Mode, the display shows the current file title, recorded bit rate, elapsed
time and total file time. On-screen controls include the Song Position slider
(lets you press and drag the position cursor left or right to a desired portion
of the song), Previous Song, Play/Pause, Next Song and Stop Buttons, plus a
volume control slider.
Audio Menu: While in the Music
Mode, the Audio Menu includes:
- Play Lists: Lets you
access MP3 and Ogg Vorbis music playlists
- Analyzer Display: Toggles
between Spectrum Analyzer and Waveform Analyzer
- Shuffle: Toggles between
Shuffle On and Shuffle Off
- Repeat: Toggles between
Repeat On and Repeat Off
- Setup EQ: Allows you to
adjust the line output level, and the level of 6 audio bands: 50Hz, 100Hz,
500Hz, 1.6kHz, 5kHz, and 16kHz
- Main Menu: accesses the
unit's main menu to customize the operation of the iWay 500c
Mounting Options
In-Vehicle Mounting: The iWay
500c comes equipped with a temporary mount from R-A-M Mounting Systems. The mount has a suction cup base that attaches to any smooth surface. The mount works without screws or adhesives.
Antenna Options: This unit has
a built-in antenna on its top. If satellite reception is poor from its mounting
location, you can mount the supplied external antenna in an unobstructed
location (roof, front or rear window). The external antenna can be mounted by
suction cup or magnet.
Power Supplies: When operating
the iWay 500c in your vehicle, you can power the unit using the cigarette
lighter power adapter. The adapter has a built-in speaker with volume control
for listening to the turn-by-turn audio commands. You can also use a 3.5mm
mini-jack in the power adapter/speaker for headphones. For a more permanent
installation, the unit can be hardwired into your vehicle's electrical system.
When using the unit indoors (while downloading map updates or music files on
your computer), the unit can be powered using the supplied AC adapter.
