Problems with interference and user interface
Written By choosybeggar, Seattle, WA on Saturday, June 28, 2008

I purchased this remote and the RF receiver. Set up wasn't bad and my system was fully functional with the remote in under an hour.

However, the good news stops there. The user interface isn't intuitive enough for my non-techie wife or for house guests. If you like explaining key presses to friends and family until you're blue in the face, this may be the product for you. Unless, of course, you have neighbors. The folks in the adjacent lot (at least 150' from my place) have an RF remote (not 'Universal' brand) that controlled our system: the amplifier, TV, you name it, would turn on spontaneously, or change channels and volume. My wife literally called me at work to inform me that a poltergeist moved into our TV.

Both problems were solved with the purchase of the Logitech Harmony 1000. It costs more but the GUI is intuitive and elegant. Most importantly, my wife easily navigates the controls and there is no interference from the neighbors RF remote.

A Good Universal Remote
Written By Dennis, Longview, WA on Monday, April 21, 2008

I have used an earlier model of this remote (the Cusomizer) for several years. It served all of our needs and could control all of our equipment throughout our home with the optional RF receiver. It even works on our rear deck and into our backyard. This unit is basically the same with only a few minor variations. Unlike the earlier model you cannot have a separate Micro for the on/off buttons for each piece of equipment (The Micro for these buttons are universal commands that works with every page). You can however create a Micro for any of the screen buttons and thus create a separate Micro for each unit. Like the older model, the touch screen commands are easier to use when the unit is facing the user which makes it difficult to send a I/R signal. The touch screen works best when it is paired with the optional R/F receiver. The more expensive models with actual buttons for each screen command would, I suspect, be easier to use. Overall, this is the workhorse of my A/V system and will work with even the most exotic equipment. It is truly worth the investment.

Purchased for Techy Husband for Christmas!
Written By Susan, Fort Worth, TX on Tuesday, January 22, 2008

I really went outside of my comfort zone in selecting ANYTHING electronic for my technical-savvy husband. All our electronics are orchestrated and he has a never-ending desire to upgrade. But, the Crutchfield website, product descriptions and reviews really helped me make an informed, educated purchasing decision.

He was extremely pleased and impressed with the MasterControl RF 30. I also purchased the "booster". He complimented the ease of programming all the different components (both types and manufacturers). He likes the touch screen but wish the backlighting had different color options.

All the techy input will need to come from him... I just know that he has really enjoyed the remote and it works excellently with the variety of components we have throughout our home.
