Customer Q&A

4 questions already asked

Q
Could this item be used as a in wall rack? I want to build a frame for it and mount it without the casters. Thank You!

A
Yes, it could. But, it is wider than typical wall studs which are on 16" centers. If you are building an entertainment equipment "wall" to account for the depth/width of this cabinet, then yes. Good luck with your project.

Thank you!!! Just what I needed to know!

I don't see why not. It is pretty sturdy. It does not have a backboard as it is now but you could do what you want on the back.
jeffrey  Dec 07, 2014
A
I suppose you could wall-mount it, but that may make routing the rear wiring between components a bit tricky.

Q
hi, i hear the casters are somewhat flimsy,so i was wondering, what is the plate size of the casters? i need to know so if i replace them,i won't have to drill holes.also,if anyone replaced them, what brand and model did you buy?

I'm not sure about the plate size, but the heavier duty casters I purchased from Ace Hardware did require me to re-drill 3 of the 4 holes. My guess is, if you find a different caster that you don't have to re-drill, you'll probably still have a flimsy caster. They are not difficult to re-drill. Just remember to swivel the casters around to make sure they don't interfere with the sides/front/back of the cabinet before you start drilling.

I proactively installed sturdier casters based on other reviews. I took one of the casters with me to try to match the base plate with an appropriate replacement caster but in the end could only match one of the four holes. Driving a small nail partially into the base was sufficient to make a "pilot" hole for the screws. The base was similar but different and the base and caster holder were steel and the caster was hard rubber. Same overall height and size but much sturdier. Got them at Ace (tried a couple of different hardware stores).

Unless you plan to move it around ALOT on carpet, the provided casters should be adequate. If you do want to replace them, drilling a couple of holes is not a big deal.

I picked up replacement casters at Lowes, they were loose in a large open box so I don't recall seeing a brand name. I don't recall drilling holes, so maybe I also picked up some self-tapping screws. I know the plates didn't match.

FYI haven't had problems with the casters, but we also don't roll it around much at all. If you need sturdier casters then the footprint will likely be bigger, so I'm not sure it helps to plan ahead as you are (based on your question). Making new holes would be easy (likely just screwing rather than drilling).

This unit looks exactly like a "Techcraft" unit on another site. 1. Is it the same unit? 2. Is the glass door reversible?
doug  Jun 30, 2014

A
1. Unknown 2. Yes, the glass door is reversible.

I believe it is the same unit, even though they are sold under different names. I noticed the similarity when i was shopping. The pics of each are identical, and the price is the same. The glass door is reversible. I recommend the Havenwood. It assembles easily and is sturdy. Some reviews mentioned cheap casters. I bypassed any potential problem with that and bought some better ones at a hardware store.
russell  Jul 01, 2014

1. Don't know. I don't have the Techcraft unit. 2. Yes

glass door is reversible. as for the comparison, i dont know. i found it to be solid functional but not too sleak.
jeffrey  Jul 01, 2014

I took a quick look at mine and I see that there are holes drilled on both sides so you can reverse the door.

Q
Does the top open or does it have a slide out shelf for a turntable?
julia  Feb 17, 2014

A
No the top does not open nor do the shelves slide out.
leonard h  Feb 17, 2014
A
Nope, there's no slide out shelves and the top doesn't open.
tim  Feb 17, 2014
A
Hello, No. The top is fixed and the shelves are fixed and completely encased within the unit. The only adjustments for the shelves are the different height positions within the interior of the unit. I don't think you could customize it for a "slide-out" either, as there is a surrounding "lip" around the front frame that would stop any of the shelves from pushing out the front. Currently, I have mine setup with my component unit on top (outside the encasement) which actually works out fine for me. You could probably do the same with your turntable if you really wanted to.

Neither, they are set once. The center shelves are adjustable. Your TT will have to be on top. Overall, it is a great unit in that it is sturdy, rolls around effortlessly and it is easy to clean. Assembly is easy, but you must take your time. Use the foam shipping panels to lay your sides on the floor to protect against scratching. It is a good idea to get all hardware laid out onto a separate cardboard box, such as the bottom of a 24 pack beverage box for ease of access and quick identification. I assembled my cabinet in 3 hours - slow and methodically - no mistakes, no issues, no damage.
adolfo  Feb 17, 2014
A
No. The top does not open and the first, third and bottom shelves are fixed. The second and fourth shelves are adjustable vertically. None of the shelves slide out. What I did was lower the second shelf as low as it will go, which gives about 12.5" of height, which is enough for my turntable if I remove its dust cover. If you don't need all of the shelves you can remove the second shelf entirely and get 18.5" of height.
