Our take on the Havenwood HWFS50

by Ralph Graves

The space-efficient HWFS50 audio rack from Havenwood gives your components a stylish, solid home. This cabinet features a sculpted base and top, and a smoked tempered glass door. Five sturdy shelves hold your gear; two can be adjusted to accommodate taller components.

Recessed casters make it easy to move the rack out from the wall, and a removable cloth back panel lets you access your gear to connect wires. Channels in the back of the shelves allow cable connections between components.

Good size, construction and price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I liked this cabinet for several reasons. 1. It has 5 shelves where most have 4 or less. 2. It is enclosed on all sides which will minimize dust on the shelves and components, plus hides all the cable connections. 3. It is black which matches my speakers, components and TV. 4. It assembled easily and is solidly built. 5. The price was reasonable compared to others available online.

I read other reviews before I bought this item and some people thought the casters were poor quality. If you assembled this with the casters provided, loaded it with equipment and did not move it often, the casters would probably be fine. I decided not to chance it ,so, I went to the hardware store and bought better casters. I had to drill new holes, but the screws that came with the cabinet worked just fine. Potential problem solved!

It was a little dirty with a minor nick or scratch in a couple of places. I'm sure this happened at the factory because otherwise it was packed very well.

I'm glad I purchased this cabinet and I recommend it.
Price vs size/quality Ease of assembly Door can hinge on the left or right

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I absolutely love it!!! I was able to put together by myself. Had no difficulty with the instructions and it looks wonderful in my den. This is exactly what I needed and for the price it is a really good deal!
Easy to put together. Good price. Looks really good.
I think at some point, I will have to replace the casters if I have to move it but right now they are okay.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This product is exactly what I was looking for. It fits in a small space and can hold all of my components.
Easy to put together
The directions needed to be a little more explicit. For example, make sure you don't screw the bottom front piece tight until you've gotten the front glass piece in place.

Not top of the rotation

Written By LarryO, Chattanooga, TN on Saturday, January 12, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
This is a nice enough box, but is not top quality. I don't have much experience buying cabinets but this one is made of composite with a decent veneer. It's fairly solid and the assembly is easy enough. But the casters, as mentioned in other reviews here, are not strong enough. The front two broke on mine a couple of days after I bought it.. I will replace them, but I was careful with it and it is not overloaded. The glass door is good quality and attractive and the cloth back is a nice touch.
Attractive, good-sized , fairly solid and easy to assemble.
Flimsy casters, composite material.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)
I needed an enclosed, mobile cabinet for my audio components. This cabinet meets those needs, is very good looking, and provides excellent access to the backs of the components while controlling dust well with a front glass door and removable rear cloth cover. The cabinet is sturdy except for the casters, which are cheap plastic and broke the first time I moved it. We replaced them with good rubber wheeled casters, and are now very happy with the cabinet.
Beautiful, enclosed, good access, mobile
casters are poor quality but easily replaceable

2 questions already asked

This unit looks exactly like a "Techcraft" unit on another site. 1. Is it the same unit? 2. Is the glass door reversible? [ Doug  Jun 30, 2014 ]
5 answers
  • 1. Unknown 2. Yes, the glass door is reversible. [ SANDRA   Jul 03, 2014 ]
  • I believe it is the same unit, even though they are sold under different names. I noticed the similarity when i was shopping. The pics of each are identical, and the price is the same. The glass door is reversible. I recommend the Havenwood. It assembles easily and is sturdy. Some reviews mentioned cheap casters. I bypassed any potential problem with that and bought some better ones at a hardware store. [ russell   Jul 01, 2014 ]
  • 1. Don't know. I don't have the Techcraft unit. 2. Yes [ Charles   Jul 01, 2014 ]
  • glass door is reversible. as for the comparison, i dont know. i found it to be solid functional but not too sleak. [ Jeffrey   Jul 01, 2014 ]
  • I took a quick look at mine and I see that there are holes drilled on both sides so you can reverse the door. [ TIM   Jul 01, 2014 ]
Does the top open or does it have a slide out shelf for a turntable? [ Julia  Feb 17, 2014 ]
5 answers
  • No the top does not open nor do the shelves slide out. [ LEONARD H   Feb 17, 2014 ]
  • Nope, there's no slide out shelves and the top doesn't open. [ TIM   Feb 17, 2014 ]
  • Hello, No. The top is fixed and the shelves are fixed and completely encased within the unit. The only adjustments for the shelves are the different height positions within the interior of the unit. I don't think you could customize it for a "slide-out" either, as there is a surrounding "lip" around the front frame that would stop any of the shelves from pushing out the front. Currently, I have mine setup with my component unit on top (outside the encasement) which actually works out fine for me. You could probably do the same with your turntable if you really wanted to. [ CHRISTOPHER   Feb 17, 2014 ]
  • Neither, they are set once. The center shelves are adjustable. Your TT will have to be on top. Overall, it is a great unit in that it is sturdy, rolls around effortlessly and it is easy to clean. Assembly is easy, but you must take your time. Use the foam shipping panels to lay your sides on the floor to protect against scratching. It is a good idea to get all hardware laid out onto a separate cardboard box, such as the bottom of a 24 pack beverage box for ease of access and quick identification. I assembled my cabinet in 3 hours - slow and methodically - no mistakes, no issues, no damage. [ ADOLFO   Feb 17, 2014 ]
  • No. The top does not open and the first, third and bottom shelves are fixed. The second and fourth shelves are adjustable vertically. None of the shelves slide out. What I did was lower the second shelf as low as it will go, which gives about 12.5" of height, which is enough for my turntable if I remove its dust cover. If you don't need all of the shelves you can remove the second shelf entirely and get 18.5" of height. [ Charles   Feb 17, 2014 ]
