About the Rockford Fosgate P2-2X12

Jo Greene

Standout performance

Rockford Fosgate's P2-2X12 ported enclosure offers the extra power handling of Punch P2 12" subs, so you and your passengers can rock out to powerful bass.

Bulletproof bass

The enclosure houses two Punch P2 12" subs, each with a paper cone that's reinforced with Kevlar fibers and supported by a rubber surround. The heavy-duty motor assemblies and advanced cooling vents allow these subs to handle up to 400 watts RMS each without flinching. The subs are internally wired for a 1-ohm total impedance, so make sure your amp can power this enclosure safely.

Advanced port design

Rugged 5/8" medium-density fiberboard construction means this enclosure will hold strong for fat, heavy bass. Industrial-grade black carpet provides a clean, finished look, and protects your trunk from nicks and scratches. The spring terminals will accept bare wire, pin connectors, or banana plugs. This enclosure uses an advanced port design that promotes generous air movement, while reducing distortion-causing port noise, so you hear louder, deeper bass. Add an amp and some wiring, and feel the thick low end this enclosure adds to your ride.

Features

Punch Woofer: The enclosure houses two front-firing Rockford Fosgate Punch P2D4-12 12" subwoofers. Both woofers' dual 4-ohm voice coils are internally wired in parallel to present a 1-ohm load. The sub features a StampCast steel frame, a Kevlar fiber reinforced paper cone, and Santoprene surround. An anodized aluminum voice coil former and spider venting help keep the subwoofer cool.

Spider: Dual spiders made from tear and fatigue resistant poly-cotton improve mechanical stability under high excursion, maintaining consistent excursion characteristics.

Solid MDF Construction: The enclosure is constructed of high quality 5/8" MDF (medium-density fiberboard), which resists flexing and has anti-resonant qualities.

Vented Enclosure: The vented enclosure is aided by precision construction through computer design. The enclosure consists of two front firing 12" Punch P2 series subwoofers with a proprietary high-flow, low-noise port. The speaker terminals are located on the left side of the box (when facing the box). The box is covered in black carpet.

Tuned Port: The enclosure uses a front-firing proprietary high-flow, low-noise port to help produce deep and loud bass efficiently.

Box Carpeting: The enclosure is finished with high-density carpeting for superior durability. The carpet is black.

Speaker Terminal: The subwoofer enclosure uses one pair of high current, spring loaded binding posts. The binding posts are located on the left side of the box and will accept pin connectors, single or dual banana plugs, or bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Power Handling: The subwoofer can handle up to 800 watts RMS; 1600 watts peak power.

CEA-2031 Compliant: Power handling on the P2D2-12 subwoofer conforms to CEA-2031 industry standards. This means the subwoofer has the capacity to handle its rated power under continuous demand, not just for an instant.

Dimensions: The depth dimensions listed in Features & Specs include the subwoofer's trim ring, which adds approximately 7/8 of an inch. The depth of just the enclosure is 15-3/4 inches at the base and 13-1/8 inches at the top.

Q
Are these supposed to face towards the hatchback or fire straight up towards the ceiling?
chris  Jan 12, 2022

A
They're great because they're versatile like that. Really depends on the individual. I've tried all three positions (facing the trunk, facing the cab, and facing up) and for my set up, facing the trunk/hatch sounded best for me.

Yes, those subs will rattle your teeth out with that amp.

The website states that your amp will run 2 or 4 ohm load. I have this box and it comes wired for 1 ohm load. You can re-wire it for a 2 ohm load. Most likely you will be starving for power to run the 12's. You would be better to get a bigger amp, I bought the R2-1200X1. You could either go with 10's or if you find it doesn't suit your needs, you can always use your amp to power some mids and high speakers down the road.

Q
What would be the best wiring kit to use between these items?
nicholas  Dec 02, 2019
1 answer
A
The lowest the amp will take is 4 awg I believe. But don't get cheap wire made by any lower end companies. Rockford makes pretty good wire and Crutchfield has their own too. You're gonna pay for quality but it's worth the few extra bucks

Q
can objects be sat on top of this without anything being messed up?
garrett  Aug 13, 2018

A
Yes As long as the item can take the vibration. The box is very solid.
thamen  Aug 14, 2018
A
The box is very heavily constructed and strong. As long as nothing is sat on the side the speakers are on it will not hurt it.

Do i need an amp for this?

Yes indeed.... It must be 1 ohm stable and have plenty of power. I suggest the PIONEER GM D8601 (800 Watts) or GM D 9601(1200 Watts) I used the 8601 with no problem.... Both amps are 1 amp stable and affordable..... Onky other affordable amps that can push it are SKAR amps....but you have to go to SKAR AUDIO website...

Q
Hey would an Skar RP-2000.1D | Monoblock Car Amplifie run this??
joshua  Mar 28, 2018

A
If the amp is a true 2000 watts rms, then it would probably be too much power for them. These subs are 400 watts rms a piece and 800 total. I have the rockford 750.1 running them and it works fantastic. Its birth certificate claims it's actually pushing 870. That skar amp would be better for the P3s, as they are 800 watts rms a piece, 1600 watts total. Hope this helps!
michael  Apr 20, 2018

I think that amp is to powerful but not quite sure

Definitely since it's 1 ohm stable !!! I've never heard of that brand so I did a little research...Wow it looks like they make sone quality products!! I'm really impressed with the 6.5 inch subs too!

I have pioneer 2400w on it and it blew them if I had my bass at 1/4 uo and turned my radio past 28. they peak at 1600w so I'd say the 2000 would do just fine on it
brandon  Apr 09, 2018

What's good broski. This subwoofer combo comes "loaded" from the factory wired at a 1 ohm impedance. After looking at your amp rating for a 1 ohm impedance you would be running 2000 Watts RMS into a subwoofer set at 800 RMS which would in turn fry the subwoofers because the amp is too strong. However since the subwoofers 4 OHM DVC you could rewire the subs to have a final impedance of 4 ohms at 800 RMS. Which would match perfectly with your amplifier rating at 4 ohms which is also 800 RMS. I hope this helped you out. You can look online how to rewire 2 DVC 4 ohms subwoofers to have a final impedance of 4ohms. Or take it to a shop and tell them you want the subs rewired to a 4 ohm final impedence. Remember amplifie tuning is everything have a professional do it if you don't know how. Clipping is a bass heads worse nightmare and will destroy the subs really fast.

Q
Would this fit under the back seat of my 04 Honda Element?
kevin  Sep 05, 2017
1 answer
A
We do not have the available space dimensions under the rear seat of the 2004 Honda Element. Even still, I don't think the 15.25" height of this enclosure is likely to fit under the seats of your vehicle. We did measure the available space in the rear cargo area and found plenty of space for this enclosure back there.

Q
would a 750w R.M.S amplifier be enough to run these woofers?
hunter  Apr 22, 2016
1 answer
A
Assuming the amp is 1 Ohm stable (The woofers are prewired to present a 1 Ohm load to the connected amp), yes. The enclosure is rated to handle up to 800 watts RMS so 750 is very close to their full potential. I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5
